I love working out at this location. The equipment is good and they have gotten some new pieces in the past year. Great staff and management. Visited Crunch. Not good. Staying with this gym.
I noticed a comment about men in the women's locker room. My wife and daughter have never witnessed that. I think the person who posted that is confused about a situation that occurred in California at a gym no longer owned by Gold's.

Gym is never too busy (I’ve been mornings, evenings and weekends), love the amount of squat racks & equipment overall. I think it’s a nice space. Only weird/off-putting thing is the shared sauna between the men and women locker rooms :/

This Golds is my favorite in the Austin area.
Pros:
- lots of squat racks, multiple deadlift platforms
- hack squat machines (2 kinds) and 2 leg presses
- large open area so it doesn’t feel crowded
- lots of machines both old and new so you’re not limited to newer ergonomic machines if you prefer hammer strength machines
- nice location with plenty of parking
- locker rooms are decent
Cons:
- the employees don’t refill wipe-down supplies so often you have to walk across the gym to wipe down equipment.. most people just don’t do it as a result
- the EZ bars are American barbell which I’m not a fan of
- all bar clips in this gym are atrocious
- few cable machines.. virtually always in use
- no water bottle filling machines.. every gym on the planet has these.. come on golds
- tons of teenagers camping on machines
- cardio equipment is in awful shape.. I just end up using the stuff at my apartment complex

Terrible experience - cancelled due to constantly being caught in the background of people filming in the locker room. After I cancelled membership I was advised no more payments were due and access was no more. Now they’re trying to bill me random charges and trying to make it look like I was using the gym by manually logging in my account . Best part is the day they logged me in I was traveling!
Manager is refusing to correct the issue even when I have it all documented.
Shady business , be careful

I love the Golds brand, been a member for a few years now. But this South location needs some serious remodeling, they do have a decent amount of machines but this place deserves the same remodeling that the Golds in Cedar Park received.
Start with the tiny Sauna, work your way to the outdated restrooms/lockers, then head over to the gym area and maybe clear an area for the turf with the weight push cart, and maybe switch out some of the old machines like leg extensions and others and move things around a bit. Maybe throw some coverings on the walls like the Cedar Park location.
Would it be too much to ask for a water fountain with a water bottle dispenser?

This has been my gym for a very long time. It was great. People are respectful and staff was helpful.
For the last year it has become increasingly uncomfortable with more than half the treadmills broken, the women’s area dirty and with broken sinks, and no working scale. I have repeatedly reported these issues every month for over a year. No change. It used to be such a great place. I will be ending my membership this month. RRR

this location has a combined sauna for men and women and it’s horrible. They never clean the sauna it is very grimy and the men have no etiquette and are so gross in the sauna (blowing their noses, dripping sweat, throwing water over themselves, talking, ect). they should make a separate sauna for women like all the other golds locations. also the stretching room always has bugs or dead roaches in the corner.

This isn’t my home gym, but it is not too far from my work so I gave it a try. It can always be a little nerve inducing visiting a new gym, even for an experienced lifter, but I emailed with the GM Kevin Wooley a couple times beforehand about equipment etc and he was super responsive and helpful.
It wasn’t too crowded when I went (4:15p mid week) and it was a nice experience. The gym was clean. I didn’t have to wait around for squat racks or machines and was able to get in and out more quickly than the gym I usually lift at on this same day. There weren’t young people horsing around in the free weights area, which was also nice.
I wasn’t a super fan of the gym80 resistance machines but that’s more of a personal preference.

Members be aware. You close account with this gym and they still keep the account open and then 2 or 3 years later they hit you with a collection. I worked extremely hard for the credit i have today. I did not received a called, email, or letter from golds gym rewarding my account being still opened.

This gym is terrible! I’ve been working out here for over a year and I’ve gained so much muscle that I had to go buy new clothes. I talked to the store manager recently to get refunded for all the new clothes I bought. Seeing as it is the gyms fault that I am too muscular now, I assumed they would willingly reimburse me for the damages. Nothing. They were not willing to help in anyway. Now I am muscular and have my dream physique, but Im poor due to buying so many new clothes. :(

I have been a member of this gym for many years...it has really changed recently (and not for the better). It is supposed to open at 7 on weekend days, but that is more and more unpredictable. today for instance a group of about 20 people were standing in front of the gym waiting for someone to come to work and open. I ended up leaving at 7:20 with not an employee in sight, many others left before then. On top of that, the gym now has about 40 percent of the flouresent light tubes burned out. You would think they could at a minimum replace light bulbs. Lets not even discuss the new ergonomically incorrect exercise equipment that now makes up about half of the gym... I believe it is time to switch gyms.

Same Dirty Band-aids and trash found in sauna and showers!!
I have been a long time gold member since I moved to Austin back in 2020. This gym was one of the first but I have slowly disagreed with the hygiene.
There have been a few times I have found the same trash in hygiene, critical areas like the showers and washrooms & saunas. I go to the Gym at 5-6am when it is supposed to be “fresh” and just opened for the day.
I draw the line with dirty Band-Aids, and am currently moving my golds home.
The attached photos was taken around 5:30am (it’s the same trash from the day before)

Brand new equipment which is rare to find in Austin, unbelievable amount of options here. I’m not a fan of their lack of consistency in allowing filming in the gym but then again it’s part of a growing culture so it’s cool. Their gm Kevin does his best to run a good gym. It’s a busy spot so I’m learning to be more flexible.

We enjoy this location immensely because one doesn't have to wait for equipment to become available. This gym isn't crowded with high school students. In fact, I usually don't see any during school hours. The staff is friendly, professional and the high level of sanitation in the locker rooms and overall. We also workout after church services on Sundays and we are satisfied that the atmosphere does not slack off.

All 6 of my favorite treadmills have been out of service for a while now. You are going there to work out and each member is paying a decent share of money for the privilege. The gym has a responsibility to maintain the working quality of “all” of its equipment. They have trouble with keeping up with the hand towel dispensers as well.

This gym haves Ben the same for several years it needs a big update I Ben coming here for 7 years or more, disappointed on the slow update to be honest but it’s a basic gym to get a work out. For the location I feel this is an over price for what they’re offering and the lady’s shower I’ve never felt they’re at a decent standers . I Ben having a membership for more than 15 years and I feel this one of the 2 golds that is slaking an upgrade asap for the price . Unfortunately if they upgrade they will charge more . I use to love this place bc it was motivating and had machines available all the time but they seam to be more out of service lately.

I have been going to this location for a year or so and really like it. Definitely the cleanest Gold's I have ever seen, which is really nice. You guys should add another freemotion cable machine imo... the demand for that machine is high and the wait time for one's turn is consistently outrageously long most days. While this next issue isn't Gold's fault I have noticed people at this gym have pretty terrible gym etiquette as far as sitting on their phones/ staring into space on the popular machines. I get a little rest between sets is a reality of lifting but what people do far exceeds what can be considered normal down time in between sets. Putting a sign up encouraging people to keep it moving if they aren't working out could be useful... All in all a solid gym would recommend.

This is a great basic gym, but like a lot of gyms, falls short on a cpl important areas.
Areas that would raise to 5 stars:
1) cleanliness — it’s just not that clean overall, especially the bathrooms. The back white wall by the entrance is a dirty dusty mess. It needs to be painted black or cleaned. You can see layers of years of dust, it’s bad
2) Movie Room — great concept, but the projector is so dim you can barely see it and speakers so low you can barely hear it. Neither should be something you strain for. Not sure if projector just needs to be adjusted, or a new projector all together. The speakers are so low you can barely hear it. Especially when all treadmills are running. Turn up brightness of movies + turn up sound a few notches and this is one of coolest ideas for a gym
3) wish there was more dead lift spots, they’re always taken at most times of day
Areas that are great:
1) the staff is really friendly here
2) movie room (if the screen was brighter and sound louder)
2) the stretch area and multiple cardio areas

Alright gym. Basic necessities. Most members understand basic etiquette so that’s nice.
Room for improvement:
Staff just sit at the front desk chit chatting or on their phones rather than replenishing paper towels or observing for safety hazards.
A few weirdos and people who just downright smell awful. I’ve gagged and literally had to stop my set and walk away a couple times.
Treadmills are starting to show wear and tear, so are the cable attachments.
Crunch fitness across the street is opening soon and I’m sure a lot of members here have their eyes set on the “new and clean” facility. Gold’s better step it up. The best facility around this area is still Lifetime but if you have $200/mo to workout and socialize, kudos to you. I’d rather spend that on a BJJ membership.

I had a super negative afternoon at the gym. A place that’s supposed to be for a community well over 1000 strong was made miserable by one man’s determination to limit the one giant fan anyone enjoying the upstairs cardio can find respite in, to nothing. I tried to make my case to the front desk who said they’d talk to him and never did. It makes it feel like a place women can be intimated into doing the lesser thing, and where anyone who throws a tantrum can have their way. This is especially uncomfortable for a place that hangs is hat on community fitness.

I haven’t been a member very long however, I have an enjoyed my experiences with the overall facility and the staff. As I am transitioning gyms, I had requested tours and visited a few other gyms before signing up. I completed the tour with Joseph and he provided a detailed and informative tour. For someone who deals with social anxiety, he made sure to show me around the entire place where I could work out without having to be in the middle of the gym. Overall it’s very spacious and I like that most cardio equipment is separate from everything else. The fitness center is very spacious and I like. There are also a few rooms that you can go into and have more discrete workout. Joseph also sent me up with my 1x1 PT Jason who was AWESOME!
Jason made sure to understand my fitness goals before actually training. I explained to him my hesitation with transitioning to this type of gym, and he made sure to mold the next hour, based on my goals, and how to ease into trying new workouts and equipment. He is a very down to earth person and is very good at explaining and pushing you throughout the work out as well.

In the Austin area, this was my preferred Golds Gym location. The staff is friendly and they have a lot of space with tall ceilings so it never really feels stuffy. The place is clean, people usually re-rack weights and clean up after themselves.
They have nearly all of the machines and free weights you would want. 2 hack squats, 1 deadlifting/oly platform with 1 additional platform that is attached to a squat rack, 3 or 4 squat racks, 4 benches, 2 incline benches, 1 decline bench and 2 smith machines. A full dumbbell section up to 130 or so. Plenty of iron strength plate loaded machines, a large machine section and a few sets of cables.
They have a second floor with tread mills, stationary bikes, stair masters, rowing machines and a punching bag.
Pretty decent for a commercial gym.

This manager at this location is rude and is not an understanding person. It was perfectly fine when I wanted to try out the gym for a day with a different employee that helped me out, I signed up immediately because of the hospitality of that employee. But my brother decided to try the gym out when the GM was working, he was rude and stubborn with his answers and would not let him try the gym out because he did not have a Texas ID and couldn’t show proof of residency but how is he suppose to show proof when he doesn’t own the house and is living with parents. We clearly are residence in Austin but he wouldn’t allow if we didn’t have proof of residency. I said repeatedly that we live here but he kept saying we are visitors. It’s a day pass, I don’t know why he would be so stingy about it. The manager is so desperate to get a single sign up, he did not think what could cost him on the long run. That’s not how you treat customers and how you lose customers. Let the other employees manage, they treat customers better!

Really nice staff, TONS of bench press spots, lots of DL platform/Squat racks, a separate, QUIET room for stretching or core/ab work. Very clean, not terribly crowded (I went at an off time). My only complaint would be not enough plates in the bench press area, I had to go searching.

Nice well equiped Gold's location, friendly helpfull staff and a good gym culture. Going to be my go to gym here in Austin. I was impressed with the amount of equipment on hand, And the trainers..
Went back after a few weeks.. didn't want to go when it was busy, didn't want to feel uncomfortable going back to the gym. It was fine, there are people there in all stages of fitness don't seem judgy at all. Relaxed and comfortable environment.

I’ve been coming to this golds for 10+ years and have always had a wonderful experience. I even worked here for a short time during the pandemic (I’m a healthcare worker and needed a reprieve from the hospital at the time) and the experience was just as great. Friendly staff, wonderful management and very clean environment. The GM Nash is always friendly and easily approachable to the members and staff alike, always a pleasant experience conversing with him. The equipment is always clean (Maria is fantastic) and there are numerous paper towel stations with spray bottles available. The new stretching room is a great addition to the gym as it eases up some of the foot traffic on the workout floor and offers a quieter space to focus. I look forward to keep using this gym as long as I’m living in Austin.

First time going, it's a busy gym with a small Suana, huge class area, tons of equipment, everyone is focused and in good spirits. Staff was very helpful. Tons of parking around.

I’ve been working out at this Gold’s Gym since 2017 when I moved to Austin. While I no longer live close to this location, it is still the Gold’s that I go to daily because, in my opinion, it is the best Gold’s in South Austin. The staff are always really friendly and are happy to strike up a conversation, and the equipment is always clean. This year, they renovated the Kids Club and turned it into a stretching room, which has helped decongest the gym during busy times, as people used to stretch openly on mats around the gym. Even during busy hours, it isn’t terribly difficult to find a way to get a great workout in. 10/10 recommend this location!

I really enjoy going to Austin South Golds Gym. I have been to many of the Golds in Austin and I believe it’s the cleanest most friendly Gym in town.

The Gym is old and could use some upgrades.
How ever the staff is great. Especially the managers. They all work hard to keep the place clean and working. The location is great and the atmosphere in the gym is good. Also like all the trainers.

the gym is extremely crowded during times after working hours on weekdays. Since 24 fitness closed across the street, they have gotten some of their patrons, me being on of them. It is extremely off putting that they have not expanded hours back to pre covid hours. Also the cycling equipment is not being maintained well.

Buyer beware. I signed up for this gym online in July. Never got a membership activation email. Never got any notice that my payment went through. Called the location several times and ended up having to go, in person, to wait, while a member of staff emerged from an office where it was apparent they'd been ignoring the front desk. That should have been the one and only red flag.
The second warning came when I was charged for a full first month after paying the pro-rated rate.
The final straw came today, when after 5 months of going to this gym, I was approached by a member of staff. I was informed that I had signed up for the wrong gym and was going to need to re-initiate my membership at a higher rate that what I am currently paying.
Despite the fact that I've been in this gym dozens of times, logged in at the front desk countless times, I've never been told I was going to the wrong gym. The first time I was told was after the rate had already increased and could not be set at a lower rate.
While the rate increase is negligible, the practice is at the very least suspect.

Great gym usually have the machine or equipment I need but can be packed sometimes (but not usually in the early morning 6am-12). Staff is friendly and so are the people that go there. Most people don't wear masks here anymore, but some people will still clean machines after using them with provided paper towels and disinfectant.

I really didn't want to go tothe gym with the stiff covid restrictions and I did not want to try to work out wearing a mask.
They're back in business and everything's rocking and rolling. They're under new management and everything seems better than it was before.

Every time I decide to use this Gold’s location they have some new rules that make no sense. I was informed today that we as paying gym goers are NOT allowed to have our gym bags on the gym floor with us. When I asked why, I was told because bags are tripping hazards (but me having everything that I use inside my bag all on the floor apparently isn’t a hazard). Mind you almost all gym goers with bags had them either right next to their feet in the area they were working in or tucked against whatever machine they were working on (all bags out of way). I’m unclear if this is an “all Gold’s Gym rule” or just this location. Gold’s gyms are started appear like Plant Fitness gyms with all these bs nonsense “rules.”

The gym has pleasant front desk attendants. There are plenty hand sanitizing stations everywhere. I enjoy the group exercises classes. Today I attended the Vinyasa Flow with Brenda. It was amazing! There was plenty of space to social distance during the class. I love this gym & the group exercise options available.

Poorly cleaned gym. Old equipment throughout...would bet newest equipment is still 10yrs old (they did get rid of some of the rusty equipment during COVID). This is the classic 'you get what you pay for' situation.
Plus don't expect to be able to get out when you want, rigid upon canceling.
Bright side, it IS a gym. Ha

Don't put signs up at the entrance and around the gym that masks are required if you are not going to enforce the policy. My workout ended at warm up as Austin Code Compliance walked in the door to give them a warning. I'm happy to come back without a mask when all the signs come down or with one when the policy is enforced. Either way, be honest and accountable to gym goers, especially those at risk, by allowing them to make the choice based on the policies you post. I laughed then shuttered then drove away after I saw 4+ people run out to their cars to grab masks knowing they all got through the entrance in the first place without.

Definitely one of the better gold's gyms . No pool or basketball court but everything is in moderate to good condition and it's got good vibes from serious gym rats to your average joe sumo just catching a quick jog or stretch. All the staff are very pleasant and it's not too crazy priced at 25-35 a month depending on if u catch a promo sign up. All in all this gym has everything u need for the most part w any strength and conditioning to functional fitness and mobility type training . They also offer gold's fit (their version of crossfit, great classes) to golds burn which is high intensity interval and circuit training classes. I'm sad to be moving across town away from this gym but I definitely made some solid gains here
