Clean and decent gym.- Updated 11/25- have been coming for a year now and am disappointed with the number and schedule of classes. They have a dedicated spinning room that is only used for 4 classes a week!

Beware that when you cancel, they’ll delay the cancellation request to get two more months of dues out of you. They’re shady. Many other gyms in the area aren’t as expensive and won’t milk you for dues after you cancel. Buyer beware!!!

Closed pool during height of COVID pandemic, but never reopened it. Was what set this gym apart. From what I understand they do not intend to reopen the pool which seems like a huge miss. Unfortunate. I went in recently to start things up again and man, the place has gone downhill in general. Equipment has started falling apart, not being updated and gym was dirty. Its right by so many people's work so it's a great location for that, but I'll be canceling. Just not the same as when I signed up.

Without any competitive pressure in Westlake, the owners of this gym invest next to nothing in improvements and maintenance. Every elliptical is rusted out from sweat. Most of the machines in the place are old, rusted and often broken. The bathrooms have sinks that don’t produce water. They have a blower fan constantly running to dry The damp floors. It’s just an absolutely awful experience compared to other comparable gyms. Not sure how this place passes inspections. I only attend for the social aspect. The gym is absolutely abysmal. Great staff, but horrible facilities, equipment and overall experience.

Golds make you sign up on the app for classes and then doesn't notify you when classes are canceled. So you drive all the way to gym early on a cold winter morning only to see a hand written sign on the desk that the class is canceled. Bad customer communication. Otherwise the gym is in good shape. They just don't mind wasting your time.

I want to like this location…but, it the worst golds I’ve ever been to despite it being in the nicest area. Feels like everything is 20 years old, terrible use of space, lack of enough equipment. They have a pool and sauna but they closed those services during covid and have never returned them presumably to maximize profits. This is also the most expensive golds location I’ve been to. Unfortunate. Entire place needs a revamp. Poor management decisions.

So glad I joined this gym 3 years ago. This one has more equipment and more availability of that equipment than other gyms I’ve seen. Plus some really nice Front Desk people, like Patrick Moehle and Bryce.
I recently had the tremendous benefit of being trained by Patrick for an hour, and he was FANTASTIC! He loves what he does, and has loads of new strategies for me. He introduced me to equipment I’ve never used before (though I've been using lots f cardio and weight equipment for 30 years), and should’ve been using for years. He gave me 5 excellent ways to improve my leg strength for uphills and stairs without compromising my problematic knees.
We have loved this gym, but I did have to bring my five-star rating down the three stars now. The new management has taken chairs away from the front desk staff. So they’re all dying. I wouldn’t want to work if I couldn’t take a seat. These are people who exercise a lot. So they need to rest their legs. Easy fix!
Thank goodness my kids and husband got me to join this gym soon after they did. I can highly recommend it for anyone.

Initially joined this gym because they had a pool, and it was close to my house. The pool closed around Covid and never re-opened. I’ve been to other Golds in San Antonio and San Marcos because of my work schedule, and they’re nice – spacious, clean, and plenty of equipment when things get busy. The Westlake location is sub-par, and at times can be unpleasant when it gets crowded with blaring rap music. The physical state is poor – multiple treadmills are out of order, the equipment and floors are not clean, overall layout is cramped. There have been several instances where trash (tissues, empty energy drink bottles) or sweat stains on treadmills have stayed…for days. The more popular areas (squat racks, benches, pull-down machines) will back up during busier hours (around 3-6 pm in particular) as high school kids congregate around them to socialize / text between “sets”. Good luck trying to find lighter dumbells (10 - 50 lbs) when it gets busy. It has been like this for a couple of years. Whomever the managers are – clean your equipment, update the space, and put in policies to keep things moving when it gets busy.

Had a training session today with Gabi Bole. She did an excellent job of finding out what issues I was dealing with and what my goals were in using a personal trainer. Then she designed a workout and stretching routine specifically for me. She is very good and I highly recommend her as a personal trainer.

The class offered at this location for Gold’s Fit by Ryan Langlois is poorly executed. A good program and a progression plan is omitted due to the impromptu of Ryan’s workout rewrites. Not only is there no thought process into his take on “programming,” the “coach” fails to even execute displaying simple compound movements. His lack of showing the proper technique and movement coupled with no enthusiasm perpetuated a chaotic and overworked program. I would rate his coaching and programming a zero if that scoring was an option. I would not recommend taking his classes.

Our family & friends are Gold’s Gym members. Today our son & his best friend were treated so rudely by the staff when they were trying to work out that I’m appalled. I never ever (check my account) give bad reviews. But our experience today was beyond. It’s unfortunate most notably bc it left a bad impression on two fine young men who were polite throughout the whole ordeal.

I would have given a Zero. I've been a member since the Hills Fitness Center closed. I only am interested in the Group Classes held in the GX room. The classes are great and the instructors are wonderful. The management, however, cannot maintain the HVAC system. Today, I left the class before it began because the system was broken AGAIN! The system clearly needs replacing and for the money they have spent trying to repair it, it could have been replaced. Or they are not using a reputable repair company. It's miserable when there are 40 people doing a high intensity aerobic activity in 90 degree heat. It's not Hot Yoga! Something needs to be done before someone has a heat stroke, particularly the instructor who is on a stage with an alcove. They are improving on emptying the water in dehumidfiers. Need more fans. I'm very frustrated with this situation!

- Need more than just one of the popular machines like the quad machine and cable pulls. They’re always taken, usually by HS boys staring at their phones.
- Need more mirrored space for heavy free weight / body weight exercises. The small area next to treadmills isn’t cutting it. And the mirrored dumbbell area is usually full.
- Where’s the sauna? That’s a huge miss.
- Would love the kid zone back! Especially during the summer. Westlake is all families so a place for the kids to hang while parents get a quick workout would be amazing.

Staff is chronically late opening the gym at 5 am Monday-Friday and at 7 am on the weekends. In 2024, at least 8-10 times, I’ve had to wait 20-30 min for a staff member to open the gym past 5 am or 7 am. While I’m not the type to write negative reviews, management must address the lateness. Some of us can’t work out at 10 am when the door is guaranteed to be open. For some of us, for whatever reasons, the best time to work out is when the gym states to be open for business (5 am/7 am). We pay to have the gym open at those times.

Shady. Please do not be tricked by this Gym. This gym has very shady business practices when it comes to memberships. If you sign up for a month to month membership, this is not fully the case.
Update: I have changed my rating from 1 Star to 4 Stars due to the sole fact of Lisa's help at this particular gym (She is the General Manager). I left a review with 1 Star, Lisa is current and keeping up with reviews, as a great GM should, and responded in order to help my situation with membership. I emailed and she did a courteously refund and left my account in good standing and canceled my membership fully. I haven't seen a better GM in long time. This gym and members will be taken care of as long as Lisa is there.

I currently attend the Gold's Gym at the West Lakes location and while the facility's location is great, I am disappointed by the state of the equipment and the overwhelming presence of high school kids during my workouts. As a paying member, I expect a certain standard of service, and unfortunately, my recent experiences have not met these expectations.
Firstly, the gym equipment appears to be outdated and in need of maintenance. Many of the machines are showing signs of wear and tear, which not only detracts from the overall experience but also raises concerns about safety and effectiveness. As a member paying a monthly fee of $45, I believe that the gym should be equipped with modern and well-maintained exercise gear to support my fitness goals.
Furthermore, the high number of high school kids loitering around the machines is disruptive and makes it difficult for paying members to utilize the equipment effectively. Their presence has been consistently overwhelming, and it significantly detracts from the professional and focused atmosphere that I would expect from a gym. This issue needs to be addressed promptly, as it affects the overall experience of members who are paying for a quality fitness environment.
I urge the management to take immediate action to address these concerns. It is essential to ensure that the gym provides a comfortable and conducive environment for all members to pursue their fitness goals without unnecessary distractions. Failure to address these issues could result in the loss of loyal members who expect a higher standard of service.
I hope that Gold's Gym will take these concerns seriously and make the necessary improvements to maintain the quality of its services. I look forward to seeing positive changes that will restore my confidence in the gym and its management.
Sincerely,
MGL

This location loses a lot of points for many reasons, but it gains a lot for other reasons as well.
The pros:
-Cardio Cinema
-Group Classes options
-CrossFit room/classes
-Enough equipment for everything you may need
-Well located (heb, Starbucks, chick filet nearby)
-Bathroom on the floor as well as in lockers
Cons:
-Some equipment is bafflingly old
-No Sauna
-Not enough equipment of some popular exercises
-No Pool
-Members (see below)
The ugliest thing about this location is the members. There's a LOT of high school teenagers that come to this location. There is a high school and middle school near by, and the kids flock to this location, especially in the afternoon. So if that's the time you have to workout, be ready to be surrounded by hundreds of Teenagers, some taking videos for their Tick Tacks, horsing around, crowding up machines, and taking up large sections of the gym.
Aside from that, there's not much choice in the area for big gyms, so you're stuck with this if you can't afford to have your own equipment at home. However, if you are able to go to the Bee Cave location instead, I would highly recommend that

8 years as a customer thrown away over $75.
Check my reviews, I'm not someone that gives out bad reviews lightly. Pretty sure this is my first 1 star.
Was a member here for 8 years and I used to recommend it. I moved within walking distance of a Lifetime so I decided to switch temporarily because of the convenience, with the idea that I'd switch back when I moved closer. This cancelation experience has made sure I'll never be back.
I go to cancel my membership, and they inform me that they'll charge me one more time and it will be canceled. Fine I get it. No complaints. Flash forward to 4 months later and I see a charge from Gold's just appeared on my statement. So I email to see what's going on. They inform me that canceling my membership doesn't remove the family membership automatically and that they asked if I'd like to cancel it. So I scroll up. A paragraph that starts with "Your membership will end 1/13" a bit more about the usual we'll miss you and at the very bottom of the email "please confirm this request is also for...". Suffice is to say, they knew what they were doing. Refused to refund or give me a call despite multiple requests.
If this is how they treat their customers then obviously I made a mistake spending the thousands of dollars I did. I will not be back.

Members (in front of staff) and Staff vape on the floor. I have asked for this to be addressed several times. They shut down the pool and sauna here during the pandemic. As of Feb 2023, it’s still shutdown. Manager says they have no plans to restore this service and no plans to discount what they’re charging people who paid for it.
Their response below says they eliminated the "wet areas" including the sauna to focus on strength training. Sitting in the sauna after a workout never distracted me from strength training. And I suppose all the other Gold's locations that have saunas are apparently distracted? BRING BACK THE SAUNA!

I am so disappointed. I expected so much more from Westlake Golds. They don’t have any hammer strength equipment. There is no sauna. They have two squat racks with built-in racks, so it’s not adjustable so one can’t rack pull, bent row or hip thrust, etc if you’re shorter like me. Also, this location does not have a hip thrust machine. All the dumbbells are round, I prefer the hexagonal dumbbells. I did a trial week at another Golds location and since Golds is corporate, I just assumed that all the locations would be similar with the same equipment. This Westlake location really needs to step it up…it should be one of the best locations as this is a ritzy lil part of Austin.

No contract? Sure. But they make sure to make cancellations as hard and nonsensical as possible. I moved out of my old place on April 20th so I needed to cancel. Found out I cannot cancel online. It has to be in person (this is 2022). So I made my way to the gym to cancel in person on May 7th. But they say they’ll still charge me for a while until June 25th. It’s ridiculous.
Aside from that the gym is fine. It’s frequented by highschoolers and they sometimes come here to hang out which can be at times loud and too crowded. One of the TVs has always Fox News on when the others have sport channels.
When I started here, there used to be an advanced air purifier device that helped with the air circulation. They took it out and when it’s crowded , it becomes difficult to breath.

All around good gym. I had a few sessions with Joe who is a great trainer. I explained my issues with my lower back and why I showed up. He was able to identify weak points in my form through basic exercises and helped set up a program to follow for increased performance. I have spent several thousand in medical bills this year trying to tackle the root cause when I should have been paying him. Massive improvements noticed and felt every week in daily activities. On top of that my wife is enjoying the new look. Having that kind of caliber trainer with the available amenities and a clean atmosphere definitely makes this place top notch.

No towel service "The downtown location offers it!" - Thaaaanks.... and then during the pandemic they unfreeze your account, and wont allow you to cancel over the phone? The gentleman at the front during the evening shift was very kind and respectful, made me feel very welcomed. Locker Rooms and Bathrooms were very clean as well. The only small downside here was that a couple of the treadmills weren't working properly, which did require me to try two different ones until finding the right one, but I didn't mind it. The lady at the front desk was less than welcoming she seemed very annoyed and put out of her way that I had misplaced my membership card and she had to look me up. Then I nearly blew her mind when I asked her if there was room in the pump class. You would think after paying for a membership I haven't used in months due to covid she would be more than welcoming. But apparently a welcome back no worries we got you. Its been a while we are just glad to have you back was too much to ask for. I wanted to cancel my membership right then. The first person you experience should be very happy to see everyone and willing and able to do all duties with joy. A friendly hello and goodbye go along way. They also do not have a filtered water system. They could definitely improve on some things. ☺

For 2 weeks in a row now, I have not been allowed into Zumba class on Sunday at 11:15, one of only 2 classes all week. Last week I wasn’t signed up and there were no spaces available. This week I was signed up for the class but my spot was given to someone on the standby list because I was 5 minutes late. I have dropped in to the class when the website showed no available spaces but there were only 5 participants. Each class is allowed 10 people. But for them to give away my spot when I’m registered just sucks. Not a fan of this place right now.
And the William Cannon website advertises classes that are not actually being held. Don’t bother getting dressed and going over there without calling first.

Been going to this gym for a year so far and it’s been nothing but great! Lots of awesome regulars and the staff is always friendly. With Covid going on this gym has transformed to keep its members safe and ensure they stay open through these tough times. All around great gym with even better management!

Rita Lee’s Barre, Pilates, and HIT classes are the reason I belong to Gold’s Gym! Her preparation for each class is amazing! She is always adding new exercises and new music. One hour of her class
flies by and feels like one minute! She inspires, motivates, and encourages us to challenge ourselves. Rita’s classes are fun and effective. Trust me, you will like the results you’ll get from taking her classes.

You can judge the integrity of a business by their customer service and billing practices.
Gold's Gym CLEARLY tries to obfuscate the cancellation process by demanding that a member visit the facility to cancel, only to hand them a piece of paper with the website URL.
Then the Website asks for a barcode number that the facility NEVER gave out.
Which means a return to the facility to get the barcode in order to go to the website to cancel.
Upon completion of the web cancellation process, there is no message that cancellation has been confirmed only that a "request" has been received.
This entire process demonstrates Gold's Gym's bad faith business practices and probably should be investigated by some state agency.

I LOVE THIS GYM. I’m back after a few months and I’ve never been disappointed with Golds. Even after trying out lifetime and 24h fitness, the price, amenities, and equipment just can’t be beat. Definitely starting my new year off right 😩💕

A great number of machines including several squat racks which is a plus. Regarding solely on leg focused machines my only complaint is there's only a single leg extension machine that tends to feel rather awkward. Bathrooms and changing area are generally clean and the workers at the front, one of the women in particular, was very kind. I'll certainly return next time I'm in the area.

In general the gym is adequate, not sure why there is such difficulty opening on the weekends. Today is the second Saturday in a row that opening time has come and gone without a trace of staff. Disappointing. This is a highly utilized gym, will need to find a gym that opens on time.

One of my favorite gold's location, its located in Westlake so that explains it. However the staff here are extremely salesy and pushy. Also read the fine print twice on the contract you're signing. I paid in cash for one year and then after it expired, I stopped going. However, it decided to charge the credit card associated with my account. Really sneaky and unprofessional.

The facility itself is great. It’s curious though that there is a woman working here who literally goes from smiling at fellow coworkers to scowling at or completely ignoring customers. Y’all...this is still a business. If you wanna project your issues onto those of us trying to peaceably use the gym, why do you work here? You’re just causing yourself more exhaustion and bitterness being so openly rude. And no, I don’t want a fake smile. But don’t act disgusted at gym customers who’ve done absolutely nothing to earn it. It’s not our job to make YOUR day better.

This gym is ok for the price. But they make it IMPOSSIBLE to put your membership 'on hold' if you're leaving town for an extended period. This is something you are supposed to be 'allowed' to do but they make it very difficult. And they make you to come in person and sign papers. Customer service- sucks :-(

Awful experience. After being a member for a couple of years, I cancelled my membership at Gold's Gym in Westlake back in April 2018, and the individual with whom I spoke confirmed the membership was cancelled.
Here I am in October 2018 and am still being billed on a monthly basis. I have called AT LEAST weekly to get this matter resolved once and for all, and somehow the people at Gold's never rectify the issue. I leave a message, they never call back; I get a confirmation that I will receive a refund in the coming week, I never receive a refund. Amazingly, with repeat calls they inform me that they have no record of my prior calls or complaints, so it is like I am starting all over again with every. single. call. Horrible customer service in every regard.
Do not support Gold's Gym or this Westlake location.

The gym itself is great, but the same cannot be said for the people working there. I had a situation where they claimed that I owed them $126.00 for personal training that I never received. I email the manager, Juan Guitierrez on a Thursday and didn't hear back until the following Monday, after I sent a follow-up email. I responded to Juan, asking some more questions about this charge and once again, no response for 3 days. I cancelled my membership and this gym wrongfully sent me to collections. The manager in particular has no morals, no sense of professionalism, and no care of the customers for the gym. Safe to say I will never be dealing with his incompetency again.

One of the worst gyms I've been to. All the equipment is outdated and often broken. Don't expect the staff to do anything to fix it (machines have been down for 6 weeks now) Half of the space is wasted with early 90s equipment that never took off but hey why replace the bubble bench with just a regular flat bench. Want a squat rack? Too bad. Either you get to wait behind roided out 1/4 reppers for 3 hours, the douchebag that warms up for 30 mintutes and stretches between every set of 4 deadlifts with just the bar, or Jimmy no calves who wants to do some shoulder presses. The cardio equipment is either missing pieces or has electrical issues. Want to work on your abs? Forget it. The douchebag from the squat rack needs to roll out from his strenuous workout so now he has all the mats. Fine let's go to hit some bench. Nope the tide pod snack pack crew wants to take a field trip and pound out some 5ers. Ok let's try free weights. I would but they have 3 benches and Jimmy no calves brought his whole crew to work bis for the 6th time this week. I strongly recommend driving somewhere else or getting a membership at 24

This Gold's Gym is a very nice facility. Well put together and extremely clean. They have a pool and sauna. The water is very clean. They run out of hot water in the showers. They need to fix the problem with the hot water. Other than that this is one of my favorite Gold's gym.

While the overall gym is not bad, the men's showers are constantly having problems. Either showers don't work in their entirety or there is no hot water. Today, no hot water and no notice given to gym members about it (not even a sign in the locker room). Also, lots of mold on the shower walls - it should not be difficult to spray a bit of bleach before cleaning to remove it but it never seems to get done.

This is my favorite Gold’s! I’m sorry to see that so many people have had negative experiences here, but I haven’t had any serious complaints. Sometimes the shower is a little dirty, but it’s a public shower at a gym!! If you want the royal treatment, go to LifeTime...that’s what $120 a month will get you. I just come here after work to let out some stress/frustration from the day and then go home to my own personal bathroom. If you’re looking for a gym with great machinery, lots of lighting, pool/hot tub/sauna, and easy location...this is as good as it gets in the area!!!

I lost my purse (together with few other customers) today between 3:30-4:30. Called police, the officer said there are about 10 report of lost (broken lockers) in the last few weeks at the same location. There is no warning anywhere about the past broke in. Management is not helpful. Some of employees assisted in reporting to police. If there are 10 or more reports of locker broken in last few weeks and no significant responses/actions by management, this is unacceptable. If there is camera, the office should review and report any suspect to the police. Do not tell me the camera is just use by corporate office!
Furthermore, our membership is month-by-month, after the locker was broken on July 31st, next day August 1st, stop by to cancel our memberships, cancellation is not effective till OCT 24th. RIFF OFF!
THERE SHOULD BE MORE WARNING AND RESPONSE FROM MANAGEMENT/OWNER OF THE LOCATION.

Gentlemen, if you significant other is using Frank Kennedy as their personal trainer you should defiantly be wary of it. This guy doesn't have any morals, he was sexting my spouse fully knowing she was married. After my wife was caught and told him she needed to stop talking to him, his response was "It's ok I'm your personal trainer".

I enjoy the gym and cleanliness is important. I do wish more attention was given to the restrooms for keeping the sink area clean and showers clean during the entire hours of operation rather than only the busiest hours. I don't see many other gym users wiping off the equipment after use but that happens at all gyms. The staff here is great!! I've thoroughly enjoyed using this gym and recommend it to others. The cinema room is great as well as the variety of classes. The coaches in Goldsfit are highly skilled and professional.

I love golds gym. I joined 2 years ago and had no problems with the initial sign up. Yes there was a contract and a sign up fee. I can't remember what it was but I would pay double if I had to cause I love golds that much. And listen, gyms dont make that much money. They have staff to pay, equipment to keep up with, wear and tear, and huge insurance to protect themselves. So per the previous review, yes they care about bottom line. But I have always had the best customer service. Unfortunately the front desk staff can be a little dull. But it depends on location. I can always ask the trainers for assistance and am never judged. Golds is a true fitness gym. Its for people who really want to benefit themselves no matter you're size or fitness level. Thier ultimate goal is to make you the best you can be. If you want to do mediocre then by all means please go to planet fitness or something (which is technically not a gym). If you want a manicure while running or some fru fru frills while working out then go to some high end place that has a water park like lifetime. You want to lose weight, build muscle, become a marathoner or triathlete, or just make a change and not be judged, then golds is the best place. Its no judgment, no excuse, all results, with top notch assistance. And best of all it becomes a second family.

Gold's Gym is a nightmare to deal with. I tried to take my 14 year old daughter to try out the gym and get her involved in exercising. Gold's Gym would not let her try it out for liability reasons which I can understand. However, they will not let her do a month to month membership even with both parents being members. They required a one year contract for a 14 year old. I would advise everyone to not join Gold's Gym. Try to contact their customer service and see what happens. You can't contact them. They care about the bottom line and not their members. They also have no common sense.
