The exercise equipment like the ellipticals are broken often. I'm glad you have a large locker room unlike das rec. Turn up the heat on your sauna. it needs to be 180 degrees for health benefits. Thank for for the feedback. Perhaps I'll return. Edit: turn down the loud music in the locker room near the sauna. Sauna should be relaxing. Your sauna is not over 180 but I do appreciate you have one since they are so scare in gyms in this area.

This is one of the most disappointing gym experiences I’ve had as a member. It operates like a typical corporate-owned commercial gym, with insufficient equipment to accommodate the number of members. Much of the equipment is also outdated and poorly maintained. As a competitive bodybuilder, I expected a higher standard from Gold’s Gym, but unfortunately, it no longer reflects the quality and reputation it once had

I visited this Gold’s Gym while traveling, and the experience was great! Kevin at the front desk was so friendly and helpful—he got me set up with a travel pass right away. He was great! The gym itself is clean, well-maintained, and has a great atmosphere.

‼️NEW UPDATE HERE‼️
So today I spoke to Kristie the manager. This women decided to tell me that there was no notes on anyone ever speaking to me after literally telling me she was looking over my notes (🚨sounds like a liar to me🚨) I ended up being billed $274 after trying to cancel about 4 months ago. 4 months ago I spoke to a young man about canceling my membership apparently they have no record of that ever happening. Called again told me to cancel my membership with a email they sent still continued to get billed. Kristie needs to fired for lack of customer service and not running the office the way it’s supposed to be done. NO NOTES?! Is crazy very incompetent on their part. I will never waste my time or money coming here again especially as a local I rather take my money elsewhere.

It was good at the beginning. I was signed up weird in the beginning by a young man in the front due to there being some technical issues. I went until may asked for a cancellation and was told it was taken care of on my way out I even called to follow up and was told everything looked good and didn’t think anything of it. I am now being charged 148 dollars spoke to the manager and he said he REFUSED TO BELIEVE any team member of his would make this mistake basically calling me a liar and that I would still have to pay these fees

Recently moved to New Braunfels from San Marcos, and was hopeful for this golds based on reviews. Was let down entering for the first time. Very dimly lit, and more upsettingly, only one adjustable squat rack. Squat racks are one of the most needed pieces of equipment in a gym, so one simply is not enough. Looks like I will be biting the bullet and driving to the San Marcos golds for my workouts, which has around 10 squat racks. Very disappointed.

Back in May, my year long membership ended, so I called to ask if I needed to do anything to cancel. I was told that it simply "runs out" and "it’s all good, I don’t have to do anything."
Since May, they have managed to charge me almost two hundred dollars ($180 something). When I called to try to resolve the issue, I was met with the worst customer service I have ever experienced from the female manager. I was accused of lying and basically just wanting money.

On top of that, she scolded me for taking so long to notice and told me I should be checking my bank statements more often (????). She also said it was my fault for not knowing because I did not read the contract IN FULL…. It was an awful experience, but I let it go, thinking maybe it was just a bad day.

I wasn’t going to leave a review because again, bad days whatever. Then, I saw that two weeks ago someone else had the EXACT same experience as me, including being accused of lying!!!! Ridiculous! I understand the importance of looking out for your employees — I am an employee myself and fully support that — but sometimes mistakes are made and employees are misinformed. That being said, mistakes that cost people two hundred dollars should not be dismissed or blamed on the customer with responses like “my employees would never do that, you must be lying.”

The gym itself is also very underwhelming. The only reason I got the membership was for the Movie Room, but half the equipment doesn't even work.

Wonderful gym. Very clean and well organized. I do several group classes a week and purposely schedule my other commitments around the class times. Miriam and Amber are wonderful teachers for our Senior Strength classes. They both take the time to demonstrate the correct way to do an exercise and explain the benefits we are getting by doing each movement. Fun and challenging for me. I am an exercise avoider and they have me actually looking forward to each class.

This gym is packed at all hours of the day. No matter when you try to come, it’s always busy and people take forever on the equipment. It’s a miserable experience trying to workout at this location. City needs another option for workouts.

Everything is worn out! Any machine that had rubber grips lost them a long time ago or there’s just a little bit left hanging on. The flooring around machines and free weights is worn down from where everyone stands so when doing workouts you’re standing in holes or tripping over them. Everything looks beat to death and a mess. Treadmills make noise and are nasty from top to bottom. The men’s sauna walls are rotting away and probably is never cleaned. The gym was built, opened, and that was probably the last time anyone cared about it and it shows. The gym needs a major overhaul! From reading A LOT of other reviews everyone else has pretty much the same complaints but yet nothing has been done to better the situation. Waste of a gym membership payment if this is the only Gold’s that you get to use.

I was a member here for a couple years with no issues. When I was moving to a new city, I filled out a form to cancel my membership and turned it in to the front desk staff. A few months go by and I notice I'm still being charged. The manager was able to find my cancelation form and said he was going to take care of it. I noticed I was charged again and reached out to see what was going on. Apparently a new manager took over and was unable to find the form that the previous manager had. So she refused to give me a refund for the several months I was charged despite my attempts to get my membership cancelled. Overall, a very frustrating experience.

I have been a loyal Gold’s Gym member for approximately seven years, with the past year and a half spent at [Gold’s Gym Location]. I am reaching out to formally express my frustration regarding recent changes under the new management.

For the past year and a half, I have regularly used the J-hooks in the back room squat rack without issue. However, since the new management took over, all accessories—including J-hooks and bands—are now locked away. I was told this was due to concerns about theft, but as paying members, don’t we already contribute to the gym’s insurance and upkeep? Additionally, there are security cameras in place—shouldn’t management be ensuring that equipment is protected rather than restricting access for all members?

What concerns me even more is that after I raised a complaint about this policy to management and left a review online, J-hooks were then completely prohibited from use. This feels like a retaliatory action directed at me for speaking up, which is both unfair and unprofessional. It is unacceptable for dedicated members to be penalized for circumstances beyond their control.

As a long-standing and committed member, I am deeply disappointed by these changes. I would like a response from ownership regarding how this will be addressed, as it is unfair to restrict paying members from using essential equipment. Please let me know how this situation will be resolved.

I hate this gym . Scary looking, inconsiderate, disrespectful members who won't get off their phones and sit at machines when you politely ask to work in.

There was a deranged guy with headphones who kept taking his index finger to his temple and made a motion he was blowing his brains out. I cut my workout short and worse, no hot water in the shower.

Gym is okay. Like other people have said months ago the equipment is still worn out. Bars for lat pulldowns are missing the rubber grips, holes worn down in the floor in the squat racks so you can't even get in a stable position. They keep saying they're going to take the feedback and fix things but they don't. I have no idea where they put the money people spend on their memberships. Staff are friendly though

I've never been a member at any Gold's Gym before and I was very hesitant to sign up because I've only worked out at small local gyms in past. Very small selection in our area for child care and is the only reason I joined. The team was immediately welcoming. I ran into a minor issue with child watch and the assistant manager stepped in and saved the day (I probably would have canceled my membership if not for her). I have had no other issues with child watch since that small occurrence. The child watch staff is amazing with my two kiddos.
On another huge note, this place is always immaculately cleaned! Seriously. I've been at other gyms where there is dust on the front of treadmills and other randomly unused areas... but not here. There is one guy(bulls cap) who is ALWAYS doing an awesome job at keeping this place clean!- GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE!
My family and I have now been here for about 3 months and are very happy.

Wow, does this place have gainz... sometimes I'm here in the morning getting gainz. After work, it strikes me that there are still gainz just laying around waiting to be got. If I can't make it after work, like clockwork, there are still gainz ready for me all over the place until they ask me to leave. On my way out I feel so terrible leaving all the gainz behind, but I tell myself if I have faith they will be here in the morning. The next day I can't believe this place isn't more packed. But then I look to my left and then to my right, and I realize I'm surrounded... by nothing but gainz 💪 It wasn't always like this when I first started coming here I wasn't getting that many gains, but every single time I came to Gold's to my surprise, I always left with gains 😅 This place is like an all you can eat gainz buffet 🍽

Decent equipment selection. Clean facility. Staff continue to restrict more and more equipment from member use. Reserving it only for their “golds fit” groups. It’s my opinion, that a member should have access to all equipment, since the member is paying $40 a month to use the facility. Restricting equipment prevents members from growing in fitness. This is the worst part about this facility in my opinion. And causes me frustration during every visit.

So sad to see how the employees don’t care about their members. It’s so hard to find a gym that has a good childcare facility and to find one that does and to come to realize that they do not watch over the kids is an absolute bummer. I witness an employee just lay back on the chair while seeing some kids fight over in the floor and not even bother to see if the kids were okay and immediately got mad at the kids. I hate watching stuff like this because at the end of the day if you are a parent you want to make sure your kids are okay.
To the child care employees (Arisa or whatever her/their name is) please try to care a little bit more about your job.

I was thoroughly disappointed with my brief experience going to this gym. I went several years ago when it opened and it was better. I decided to try it out for a secondary gym. Just going a couple days a week. I signed up for the month to month because it was $1 to sign up which made way more sense than they’re super expensive day pass, and then all of their equipment is really old and worn down. Missing screws and loose or broken, I was not impressed with the equipment at all with as much money as they make from what they charge people you would think that they would update their equipment.. I decided to cancel my membership on October 2 or 3rd and I had to go in person and fill out a form to cancel it. I had just been charged $43 for the month-to-month membership that I signed up for and then they told me I was still going to be charged again on Oct 25th for another month because I didn’t give 30 days notice. So then I was expecting another $43 charge and I got an email saying that it was going to be $75 so I went into the Gym again to inquire why I have this $75 bill. They informed me that there is a yearly fee of $53 plus the $43 that they are still gonna charge me after I canceled and if I didn’t pay it, they were going to send it to collections! So I had just to pay $97 to cancel my gym membership. This was very deceiving of Golds Gym and I do not recommend getting a gym membership with Golds Gym. I will never go back to Golds Gym

I work in other states due to my job, but my home is in this area so I always come back to this gym. First time I’ve ever encountered a collection agency coming after me for unpaid gym membership when I had cancelled back in april/may IN PERSON due to relocating again. When I called and asked to speak to the manager, the associate working stated GM Tim was unable to come to the phone but said he would call me back within 24 hours. A month later and nothing. My wife who still lives in the area went to the gym and Tim refused to speak to her as well about this situation. I know he’s new because the last GM that was there was friendly and attentive and he would’ve never done this sort of thing. Very unprofessional. To say the least I will never come back to this golds gym. I’m having my wife cancel her membership as well and go to a place that is actually managed by a REAL manager.

How can it be possible that a person who does not pay membership tells you to hurry up with the machines. and that I have spent a lot of time on it. This was told to me by a client who listened to what that client told me, we are supposed to take a few minutes for each session according to the trainers and in those minutes I can use my phone. I see everyone using their phones and if I want a machine I just wait and don't bother the others. According to you, I was paying for a membership without a contract, I had a car accident and lost some documents, I have sent messages and sent emails, I am not able to go, you never answer the messages, I have not been to the gym for months and they continue charging, just cancel and that's it. Staff is friendly. Gym is clean. But..... the place is always in disarray if you get here.more than 2 hours after opening. Unfortunate for the location. It's the members that absolutely wreck this location and why it gets 1 star. Weights are literally scatter across the racks. Left on the ground. They take up 3 to 4 pieces of 3quipment at a time for 1 person for 30 minutes or more. This includes at least 4 sets of dumbells.

I know the staff isn't a bunch of baby sitters. But, there needs to be more regulation. It gets over crowded here everyday. I'm sure more than what the occupancy permits. You might as well not come here to get a workout in. Ittl take hours and will be scattered around the entire gym. And will take too long between rotations.

And this isn't some fitness buff being a karen. This is a regular guy just trying to get healthy.

Unfortunately there is no other location that's reasonably distanced to go to. And by that I mean at least 20 miles from my house.

It's almost like planet fitness antics here.

This gym needs some attention. There are deep warn holes in the floor by the free weights that can cause people to trip. At least a third of the treadmills are broken in some way. The sound in the cinema room is messed up and the pictures I doubled.

It is cleaner than a lot of the golds I have been in and the staff is super friendly. The place just needs some desperate updating.

I've also recently found out there is a pool at this location that has been closed for awhile. It would be amazing if it were open again. I've been driving an hour to the location in San Antonio to swim laps. Would be great to have a closer location with a pool.

BUT! Does need another peck deck and the restrooms always have a really bad smell, they have the scent diffusers but clearly are not working or need battery cuz they're not even on.
Just by fixing the smells in the restrooms I'm willing to change this to a 5star review

Strictly speaking on the facility in the equipment, it’s a normal nice Gold’s Gym. However, It’s typically overcrowded most every day. If you like waiting on equipment because people enjoy socializing more than they do working out, this is definitely your spot. You’ll find yourself constantly, waiting on people huddled around in groups talking, and holding up the equipment. If you’re looking to get in, get your work done and leave find a different gym.

I could give 0 stars I would. They are cancelling Golds FIT classes almost every other month. I’ve had to endure their issue of staff retention. There’s a new GM every 90 days. This is a very watered down version of the Golds gym I know. The Golds FIT classes available are sporadic and the schedule lacks structure. I’m paying for an extra service with minimal availability and I shouldn’t have to commute to a neighboring city to attend a FIT class. If there is a cancellation or change of time, there is no communication through the app or email.

I first joined this gym in October 2021 at the suggestion of a friend. I was hesitant and very nervous about starting out because I thought I’d feel out of place or would be too intimidated to stay. I was definitely wrong!

The person at the front desk walked me around the gym to show me all the equipment, the Gold’s Fit room, where the GGX classes are, and the spin studio. He told me about the Gold’s Gym app, a little more about the different classes offered and mentioned the personal training. I started off with trying out a few of the GGX classes which are all based off Les Mills’ workouts so there isn’t anything you would need to “plan” to do for your workout if you’re taking a class. You just show up and follow along with the instructor! As a gym newbie, I really liked that I didn’t have to think about what workout I was going to do, just which class I was taking that day. I eventually made those classes a habit and over time, got to get to know some of the instructors. I continued with the classes for almost two years, going fairly consistently.

This past fall, I decided I wanted to do more with my workouts so I met with Mark about signing up with a personal trainer. He gave me a quick but full rundown of the process for getting started and scheduled a time with me to do a general assessment a few days later. The day of the assessment, Mark asked me about my diet, my current workout routine, as well as my short term and long term fitness goals. Then he had me do some reps on various machines to get a baseline of where I was at physically. He then paired me up with Kristy and she has been nothing short of amazing to work with to say the least. It’s only been about four months but I’ve been seeing the results I’ve wanted to achieve for a while so personally, I think opting in on starting the training sessions has been a great choice for me.

The staff all around is pretty awesome and really friendly. It shows that they actually care about what they are doing there and that they want people to want to keep coming back. Moses often greets people by name as they come in or leave which is cool. All the instructors I’ve taken GGX classes with - Aya, Melissa, Celeste, Jeanetta, Vanessa, Jenny, Amber - have made them all fun all while pushing you to keep doing your best because it’s your workout, no one else’s!

It’s not the perfect gym, but honestly, no gym is going to be. It’s really all in what you make of your time spent there and if you choose to put in the work, I think you’ll find it was worth it!

The staff at this location in New Braunfels is the only reason I'm a member here. Nate is always working to help customers and keeping us informed of all Golds has to offer.
I got a new phone and couldn't get the App to work. Hunter went above and beyond to get the issue solved. I can not say the same for the staff at the member center responding to my emails about the App issue. I got zero help and was only given generic responses. It was a complete waste of my time to email the Member Center. So a big thank you to Nate, Hunter, and all the staff at Golds NB.
There are a few things that could use some attention here at Golds, mainly old cable attachments (lat pull down bar, easy bar attachment) that have rubber peeling off, loose, or missing. I'm sure Nate and his team are already taking care of these issues as to the extent that they can. 5 out of 5

I have 2 memberships, and I find myself going to Golds the most. They have the equipment needed to get the job done. The only thing to look out for is the time you go. During peek hours, it's impossible to get a workout in due to a lack of available equipment.

If I could give a zero star review I would. Canceled account months ago. Still getting billed. Card was used on someone else's account and they refuse to remove the card from that person's account. The Senior Strength class needs help. Instructor should play music for seniors..60s & 70s..he needs to make a playlist without constantly hitting repeat during class. Also music is too loud. Needs more repetitions on weights, lunges and squats. The majority are more fit than not.

Also could use a Zumba and Pilates class. It's a good core and cardio workout.

I have been going since April and was very excited to have lost just about 20 pounds but it has been months now that I have placed a complaint that the air conditioning that is not working and they keep trying to blame it to the facilty and that that don't contol it. The place is HOT and it's just no longer enjoyable to go. I shouldn't have to drive 40 min to Live Oak to work out. The bathrooms are disgustig and it smells ALL the time. Toilet paper on floors and most of the time no paper towels. I am seriously thinking about canceling my membership and checking out other gym options.

I’ve been going to Golds Gym almost 30 years. I joined when I was 16! This location has a sauna and will reopen the Kids Club in July 2023. The group exercise instructors are great. Aya, Melissa, Vanessa and Amber teach Body Pump, Body Combat, cycling etc. I can see yo go yo Lifetime Fitness and theses classes are top notch. The Group Exercise community is very cool. You can join Golds, Planet Fitness, YMCA etc thru the USAA Active & Fit program. Get fit! Get strong!

Tried to give this place a shot. I signed up in January. The gym is so full when I go. I usually have to wait in a line or keep my eye on a machine to hopefully use it next. I’d rather just continue working out at the park. I’m going in to cancel today since it cannot be done manually through the App. Based off these comments on the cancellation process, I’m pretty nervous. I’m hoping the kids at the counter don’t lose my cancellation paperwork or keep charging me months after canceling. Here goes nothing. Went to gym to cancel in Sept. 2022. I was told I would be charged for one more month and my final billing would be Oct 2022. I was charged for October, November, and again in December. When I went back to the gym to ask about this in December 2022, I was told that the membership was never cancelled. I again, filled out another form, but this time cancelled my card so they could not bill me anymore. They tried to bill me again in Jan of 2023, and when the charge was declined, they sent my account to collections.
They screwed up, overcharged me November and December, and are now trying to charge me another month for January along with fees for a declined payment.
Bunch of scam artist. Stay away.

Was able to use this facility during an extended stay in the area. This is a well equipped facility with all of the machines, dumbells, barbells, and cable/pully equipment. Be advised that the gym is very popular, so you may have to adjust your workout to wait for equipment to free up. The aerobics equipment is in need of some maintenance (e.g.,the elliptical trainers are not functional), and they need more balance balls for floor exercises.

I tried to cancel my membership over the phone. Which I was told I was able to do. They told me everything was taken care of and then my membership has been canceled. After that, I was still being charged on a monthly basis for the membership. When I called back a second time, they told me I was not able to do it over the phone but I could do it via email. That didn’t work either because I was still being charged monthly after that. They told me my only option was to go into the gym and cancel it in person. Which I wasn’t able to do. Then when I contacted my bank and had my bank block any transactions by Golds Gym, Golds Gym sent the money I supposedly owed them to collections
