I went to the Gold’s Gym Alamo Heights location today using a free day pass through Fitness and Direct to try it out. I’ve been to a different Gold’s Gym in the past and was genuinely considering rejoining. That changed immediately after my interaction with Warren, who appears to be the general manager.

From the start, the interaction was rude, confrontational, and unprofessional. He questioned why I was there, claiming the system showed I’d been to Gold’s before. I explained it was a completely different location over a year ago, but instead of handling it professionally, his tone was sarcastic, disrespectful, and disingenuous. It was clear he had already made assumptions and wasn’t interested in listening.

This type of behavior leaves a terrible impression — especially for someone new walking into the gym for the first time. It honestly makes you question how he treats the employees who work under him. The entire encounter reflects very poorly on the Gold’s Gym brand, and I strongly believe corporate should look into this individual’s conduct.

I will never return to this location and recommend anyone considering this gym to go elsewhere. There are plenty of other gyms in San Antonio that actually value professionalism and customer respect — this is not one of them.

Staff is always friendly and welcoming, they have many personal trainers to choose from with a variety of specialties, but they are all very nice and professional. Warren and Felice are always happy to listen to concerns and answer questions. Issues with machines (though I haven’t had to report any myself) are always quickly fixed. The cable machines NEVER stick, and that impressed me, because crunch always has that one that sticks! I drive a good 20 minutes just to get to this location. There’s always fresh towels, and a smiling face to greet you at the front desk. This is also the closest location to me that has a STEAM ROOM and a functioning pool!! I definitely feel pampered using the locker room, which is great!

My only complaint is that the kids area is still closed since Covid. I really hope they get that up and running, as it’s the only reason I still pay for another gym even though this is my absolute favorite. As a single parent, having childcare is essential to reaching fitness goals, and everything else about this place is designed to reach goals. So for now, I can only come here twice a week, but those are my FAVORITE workout days.

Highly recommend this place to all the women in San Antonio! 💪🏼✨
I found it through ClassPass and absolutely loved it! The class worked my entire body, the instructor was super attentive to my form (which is a huge deal for me!), and the vibe was amazing. Everyone there was so friendly — I felt comfortable and welcomed right away. 🫶🏼

I called and asked about joining the gym. Isaiah i believe his name is said, "first month free". I drove a very long distance to come check out the gym just to be told the promo ended weeks ago. Weeks ago. How do you not know that information? Ended yesterday maybe okay. A couple days ago maybe. That was some shady stuff just to get me to come in. Wasting A LOT of my time

Started a new job on this side of town and had only been using Golds on the NW side.

Warren and his crew are extremely professional. Gym is the cleanest Golds I’ve been to in TX. Equipment all seems to work. Not overly busy at lunch or after work. Definitely recommend. Towel service is a nice touch as well.

I moved to San Antonio recently luckily found a gym right close to where I live and it’s the most clean and full equipped gym and most importantly the staff are very friendly and a shift manager Warren is very knowledgeable how to keep everything organized and how he greets everyone it’s like wow!!
You won’t be disappointed if you choose to join this gym.

While I was standing at the mirror shaving—literally mid-shave, still in place—Warren, the General Manager, came up beside me so closely I could smell his breath. Without any greeting or basic courtesy, he asked, “Is this you?” I responded, “Is what exactly me?” He pointed at some water on the mirror. Just to be clear: we’re in a locker room—with multiple sinks, showers, a sauna, and a steam room. A little water on the mirror is not only expected, it’s unavoidable.

This wasn’t an isolated incident. Since I joined in November, Warren’s behavior has been consistently aggressive, at times passive-aggressive, and always unsettling. He watches me at the gym in a way that feels suspicious and psychological—like I’m being singled out for reasons I don’t understand. He creates a tense atmosphere that puts me on edge every time I walk in.

More disturbingly, there have been multiple occasions where, while I was using the sauna after my workout, Warren entered and asked if I was wearing underwear. I’ve had to lift my towel and “prove it” to him—something that, as a straight man (or any man), is extremely uncomfortable and entirely inappropriate. I have never felt this kind of discomfort from any club member—only from Warren.

I’ve also witnessed him berate an elderly woman, telling her she was the one with the “attitude problem,” which just reinforced my impression that his behavior isn’t personal—it’s a pattern.

After today’s incident, I’m officially done. I’m taking my business elsewhere. I strongly urge Gold’s Gym corporate to investigate the management at this location. No member should feel harassed or intimidated in a place that’s supposed to promote wellness and community.

If it were possible to give ZERO stars, I would. The manager “Warren” of this location is extremely rude, unprofessional, and a complete blockhead. There are some good ones on his staff but then there are also the follow the leader bad apples.

He refused to provide me contact information for his boss and said “I mean he isn’t going to help you or anything, he can’t cancel your account” I stated to him I wanted his bosses info to report some concerns and grievances, he ask what they were, I replied that he and his staff have been very rude and unprofessional on multiple locations and I didn’t feel comfortable speaking to him about it, he “Warren, the manager” then laughed and stated he would not provide me with the number and that I can call customer service. It wasn’t until I informed him he was on a recorded line and asked him to confirm that he was refusing to allow me to make a complaint against him with his leadership, that is when he decided to fix his tone and condescending attitude/laughter.

This all started because him and his staff have made me and my guest uncomfortable multiple
times at him gym. “Because of the location and the type of Golds gym that we are we just want to make sure people aren’t sneaking in”

Half of the machines are broke or out of order on the regular and it’s dirty. No reason to “sneak” especially if I am paying my monthly fee and my friend pays her $25 guest pass. (Even though she is questioned about paying $25, alluding to if she can afford that) In addition to being told on one of the times we went that we had to wait because “the manager has to approve of your guest”

When did that become a thing? So when there is no manager present who does the “approving” ???
I spoke with another member at that gym and she said she never had to go through that part for bringing a guest.

Don’t go to this location.

I wish I could give them a 0 stars. Do not get a membership with them. They will make it impossible to cancel, charge you for 2 months after you cancel and send you to collections if you dispute the transaction. This “gym” is BS.

Tried to get some information about a membership. I asked him if they still had problems with their contracts like they used two years ago. Warren was the name of the gentleman that was helping me He became immediately defensive and said we're not all owned by the same company He then went on to To be extremely rude and unprofessional When I asked him about how I could reach the general manager, he told me that he was the general manager Obviously, I was shocked that a general manager would be so rude to someone trying to get information about a membership So I asked him how I could reach the district manager, and he said he told me how much the membership was and that's it and then hung up on me May I suggest staying away from this gym If Warren is the one setting the line for customer service I think I'll find membership at another gym

Since moving to San Antonio recently, finding a gym that felt like home was one of my top priorities — and I have to say, Gold’s Gym at Alamo Heights (1246 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78209) has absolutely exceeded my expectations in every way.

From the moment I first walked in, the experience has been nothing short of amazing. The staff here truly go above and beyond — they’re not only incredibly kind and genuine, but also very resourceful and always willing to help with anything you need. Whether it's answering questions, offering guidance, or just creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere, you can tell they genuinely care about the members and their fitness journeys.

The facility itself is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything you could possibly need — from weights and machines to group classes and cardio equipment. It’s clear that the team takes pride in keeping this location in top shape.

If you’re new to the area like I am, or even if you’ve been here a while and are looking for a great gym, I highly recommend checking out Gold’s Gym Alamo Heights. You won’t be disappointed. This location has quickly become my favorite part of my daily routine!

After calling around everywhere (within the driving time I chose) to verify that certain gyms had pools, that they were open, AND heated…yes you have to verify now…I FINALLY decided on golds gym. I walk in with my kids. I was ready to swim to prepare for birth next month and there’s NO KIDS CLUB!!!!!!! “It’s been closed since Covid.” What a cop-out for SO many facilities. That’s half the reason why I had to call around everywhere to verify pool functionality and ability-because the pools have been “shut down since Covid.” AND on top of all that the photos on Google maps shows hours of operation for kids club for that very location. Same problem with other gyms in the area. They all have photos of pools. When you call to ask details they say they don’t actually have one.

My family and I became Gold's Gym members in 2012. The Gold's Gym located in Alamo Heights has always set the high water mark for the quality of the facilities as well as the quality of staff support. The current Management is focused on keeping the quality of the members experience at the highest level. Excellence is exhibited from the first staff interaction at the front desk to the entire workout experience. The equipment is always in great working order and the locker rooms are always clean and well stocked. If you are seeking a great total workout experience, this should be your choice. It has been ours for the last 13 years, and we look forward to many more years as satisfied members.

Edit: I brought this up at each time it happened. I tried to resolve the last instance multiple times to management including yesterday when I was looking into going back to this gym so this response is not at all accurate that it would have been resolved. They do not care about you. They will not work with you. The current management is unwilling. They just want your money.

Been a member on and off for many years. All three times I had to cancel my membership I had issues where they kept charging me afterwards so I had to stop going there. The last time I cancelled in person they said I was good to go. I later find out that you can only cancel online and that I was lied to. Despite being a long time member and purchasing many personal training sessions they tried to charge me $500 for fees while I had thought I was cancelled. Make sure you get physical confirmation of cancelling and save emails of cancellation.

Gold's Gym on Austin Highway has become my partner in better health and a better life! A few years ago after retiring I didn't feel all that great - the stress of working and family obligations had worn me down. Now with all the fitness help Gold's offered I've turned it around and feel great! This Gold's location is clean and bright, has plenty of equipment, and a superb friendly staff. I adore the fitness classes - such variety, multiple sessions to fit your schedule, and excellent instructors. My class members support one another, make the workout more fun, and start to feel like family. The women's locker room is a pleasure to use. Of course your fitness is up to you, but this Gold's gym offers you the right environment to get it done right!

*LUNK ALARM* This guy named Warren or Ward (not sure he didn’t introduce himself other than be in my face after my last set) got after me for using the deadlift platform and not gently dropping my weight (only 315 mind you, not 1000 pounds by any means) and I asked how I should instead drop the bar and he rudely refused and flat out told me the lifting platform was cheap and I’d concave the floor using it exactly how I was taught in high school along with a row of 30 guys pushing more weight on dead’s. It’s the only deadlift platform also he’s acting like I’m actually going to hulk smash the ground LOL.

I'm just going to say it. The best golds and maybe gym in SA, two huge studios, a covered semi indoor pool, suana and steam rooms, a ladies only gym space. Sadly no kids zone but understandable. Towel service and the manager is on point! The staff is friendly and the place is clean. A great space to take classes or use their team of personal trainers. They even have a cycle studio! I’ve read some other reviews and realized I wasn’t alone in my experience with Warren. On just the second day of my membership, after finishing a workout, I decided to try out the steam room for the first time. As I was sitting there, the manager, Warren, abruptly opened the door and told everyone to "knock it off." Confused, I immediately asked what he was talking about. He stared directly at me, pointed, and said, "You know what I'm talking about." The whole interaction made me feel extremely uncomfortable.

I want to make it clear that I’m straight and I fully understand and commend management for addressing inappropriate behavior in the gym. However, Warren’s style of handling the situation leaves a lot to be desired. About five minutes later, I found Warren in the locker room and confronted him, asking why he felt the need to 1) barge into the steam room and start yelling, and 2) accuse me of something I hadn’t done. His apology was far from convincing, but he shook my hand anyway.

My advice to Warren is to use a more level-headed approach when addressing such issues. Rather than throwing out accusations and threats, he should consider a calmer method that respects the individuals who are legitimately there to use the amenities they’re paying for. This is definitely not the kind of experience I expected for a $50 a month gym membership. I’d advise against signing up here unless you’re okay with fake pleasantries from Warren at best.

I now love this gym , again ! I use to come hear a couple of years back but stopped do to inappropriate behavior, by other members in the locker room, sauna and steam room. But they are cracking down big time on that stuff and I am sooooo very appreciative! A couple of years ago I would bring my son, who at that time was a minor , and it was terrible to have to explain to him that he could not be in the locker rooms by himself because of the behavior that was taking place throughout there. Such great amenities, the sauna and steam room, and couldn’t even enjoy them because some grown men didn’t know how to control themselves! . I don’t care what anyone’s sexuality preferences are or what or who they are attracted to! But my son and I should not have to tolerate anyone carrying out or attempting to carry out, their sexual activities in public.
And all posts on here that are continually being edited by the authors , wow! lol!
Says a lot about their claim in my opinion. Guilty much..?? I don’t know the manager. But if he is cracking down on the indecency that had been taking place for so long , hey corporate! GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE! Because here he is now suffering backlash over doing what is right and should have been done long ago !

Mr. Warren , Sir, bravo !

This location is clean and well taken care of.
First and foremost. Warren the GM is a good guy. A really good gay friend of mine was hired by him and wouldn’t be working for someone who was homophobic, As some of these recent reviews have claimed. Calling this man a homophobe is ridiculous.
It’s very clear plenty of the LGBTQ+ individuals workout here regularly with zero issues.
The real issue is the individuals who abuse the steam room and sauna rooms. They are really great amenities to have but a handful of people attempt to use this as crusing hub attempting to hook up in steam room and sauna. There are MINORS yes minors, High schoolers that go into this steam room. So yes I have complained to management numerous times about PEOPLE trying to do their inappropriate activities in the locker room.
Warren does walk the locker room usually just keeping up the cleanliness of the area as does most of the other male employees, nobody is being “harassed”, of course the manager should be stern if people are engaging in inappropriate activities, but this isn’t the only location dealing with the same issue. If a gym has a steam room and or sauna more than likely your gym maybe dealing with something similar. Again there are minors in this locker room and steam room, and there are some grown men who try to come here with the intent hook up.
And the individuals who partake in said activities should embarrassed by their depraved behavior. You care about nobody but your yourself. The thing is too that it’s not just gay men doing such acts, people who identify as “straight” are also using this website called Sniffies which is a cruising website NOT a dating app.
so it’s not a “discrimination”issue, it’s a public indecency issue and I emailed the gym with screenshots of the activities being planned by local users who want to take advantage of these amenities at the expense of everyone else in the locker room, not caring who they are exposing themselves in front of.
I encourage you other members to report this nonsense also.
Just look at this sniffies website, it’s graphic but you’ll see for yourself, it tells you where and when, and people get on there to promote the true nature of their intentions for coming to this gym.
I’ve run into a similar issue at Roger’s ranch and the quarry. I use to workout here regularly but now just every once and awhile, because I’m sick of people trying to use these amenities as their own personal bathhouse or something… very weird behavior and I will continue to bring this to managements attention.
It’s ridiculous that anyone thinks this is okay and it needs to be stopped.
How are the staff members the bad guys for not wanting other members exposed to explicit activity. A private establishment we all are paying for, and should be able to come to the gym without being exposed to explicit activity.

Thank you to management for trying to keep these amenities for what they are intended for, instead of turning a blind eye to it like other gyms do.

I recently joined Gold's Gym, my first time ever joining a large gym, and had a deeply distressing experience on my first day that I feel compelled to share to warn others, especially LGBTQ+ individuals.

During my visit, I encountered the general manager, Warren, who made me feel extremely uncomfortable and discriminated against. While using the treadmill, Warren approached me, introduced himself, and asked my name, which was unusual and intrusive. Later, he kept staring at me while I was doing sit-ups and even followed me into the locker room, continuing to make unnecessary comments and inquiries. This behavior was already highly unsettling.

The situation escalated in the sauna. Warren entered twice, yelling loudly at me and others to cover up more, despite us being fully covered. He aggressively stated that he wouldn't tolerate any inappropriate behavior in his sauna, and directed his anger particularly at me, using harsh and offensive language. His conduct was intimidating and unprofessional.

One of the men in the sauna, who was fully covered, stated this to Warren, only to be met with more yelling. Warren said, "There is no arguing with me, you do as I say. Do you understand me? The stuff (censored words were used here, I can not put in the review) in this sauna is going to stop," while pointing at the man. His behavior was reminiscent of an abusive figure and was completely inappropriate for talking to grown adults who were not doing anything wrong.

I am baffled and disgusted by the assumption that I would partake in something inappropriate in a sauna with strangers just because I’m gay. I have severe anxiety and am autistic, and this incident was extremely troubling to me. I was doing everything I could to mind my own business and keep to myself, as I always try to when I'm in public.

Since this incident, I have spoken to several of my gay friends who have had similar experiences with Warren or have witnessed his behavior towards other gay men. It appears that Warren has made it a habit to treat gay men this way. I also have knowledge that he might be using location-based apps to identify gay men at the gym and then follows and harasses them until they leave. This is unacceptable behavior.

Upon leaving the gym, I asked to cancel my membership. Warren loudly stated "GLADLY!" while slamming down the paperwork and said "sign here." After signing, he said "Yeah, we don’t allow that kind of behavior here." I said, "What are you talking about?" He replied, "You know what I'm talking about." I told him I did nothing wrong and was minding my business, and he repeatedly talked over me to "Have a good day." Warren’s final words to me were that “this gym isn’t for you,” which I believe was a direct attack on my identity as a gay man.

I urge anyone considering this gym, particularly those in the LGBTQ+ community, to be aware of this manager’s discriminatory behavior. Your safety and comfort are paramount, and sadly, this was not the environment I found at Gold's Gym.

***EDIT: In response to the other review who is calling me out and saying it was likely justified just confirms that's one of the managers friends he probably asked to review because as you can see the manager isn't going to reply to me here publicly so he is having his friends do it for him. I was in the Gold's Gym for a total for like one hour. I had my headphones in and minded my business the ENTIRE time.

***EDIT X2 having more of his friends come to the defence. Somehow not understanding that I DID NOTHING AND NEVER would do any of what you are describing. I'm aware those things happen, but it has nothing to do with me. Simply being a gay man should not constitute being followed, yelled at, and harassed for simply existing.

This manager is so ridiculous he has his buddies coming on here to Bully some more.

Gyms with pools are hard to come by. A few years back, I received a week trial pass for Gold’s in El Paso when I was finishing up my Doctorate. I loved how clean and uncrowded it was, but ultimately went somewhere else because it lacked a pool.

When I first moved to San Antonio last year, the Gold’s Gym by my house had a pool, but it wasn’t operational, I guess since Covid, so I just decided to do the home gym thing. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I wasn’t using my Peloton enough, and was looking for a change, when I found out that this Gold’s location near my work has a pool.

The manager, Warren, seemed welcoming at first, but midway through my conversation with him about the gym and its facilities, he stepped away briefly, and became incredibly confrontational with a nearby member. When he returned, his demeanor towards me changed. I decided not to move forward with my membership because I just got a weird vibe from him, and I couldn’t figure out what it was until I read some of the reviews. I was wearing a rainbow watch band, and asked questions specifically about the pool and sauna. I can’t be sure, but my spidey senses tell me that his change in attitude may have been homophobic. I find it disheartening that this is even a topic of discussion in 2024, and during pride month at that, but it seems I may have dodged a bullet.

I’ve been a member of Golds Alamo Heights since 2006. By far, Warren Young has been the best General Manager. His attention to every aspect of the gym makes it best in class! He leads his employees by example. There’s nothing beneath him. He does it all… cleaning, greeting members, racking weights, folding towels at the front desk - he does it all. His dedication to the members is much appreciated!! Bill M

I absolutely recommend this gym to anyone!! They have steam room, sauna room, showers, pool, a small women’s section with girly weights and workout machines which I absolutely love especially when times I am wanting to be more isolated. I feel this section is great for women since we have cramps/period but still wanna hit the gym and not wanting to be out in the open! This is by far my favorite gym. Everyone is so nice and there’s never groups! So you’re not having to wait for a machine for long. Everyone gets their workout on and is really getting it! All age groups here but let me tell you these senior citizens are on steroids!! Not literally 😅 but they are in there kicking butt! Lol hopefully I’m like them as I get older. ☺️

I really enjoy coming to the gym. The general manager Warren is very welcoming and always eager and ready to address any concerns or issues I may have.
I noticed a post that was made recently in regards to him being discriminative or bias towards gay people, and I want to say that couldn’t be more far from the truth. That’s not the type of guy Warren is. I would say this post is long overdue but after seeing that review, I’m glad I’m making it right around this time. I’ve never seen Warren treat anybody different Based on their sexual preferences or identity . There were in fact some issues in regards to inappropriate behavior throughout the locker rooms. And if Warren called someone out on it , it was most definitely justified. I can tell you that he has a passion for his job and for his purpose there at the gym.
I don’t believe for one second that he discriminated against anybody. Again, if someone was singled out, It’s because they were breaking the rules and making other people around them feel very uncomfortable. Warren wants everybody to feel comfortable and at ease when they are coming into his gym. He’s a Great guy in my opinion.
I only hope the higher-ups in management recognize him as such. And What a great job he does and what a great asset he is to the company.
As long as Warren is around, this is going to be my home gym. And countless members feel
The exact same way!

Edit to update 6/3 - I've spoken to a few other members who also agree the temperature in the morning is very cold. Before the heater initially broke the water was always a nice temperature to get into. That's not the case anymore. From what I understand multiple members have asked about this - maybe management could look into it? I hate having to update this review so many times but there no reply button and when I call the front desk I don't get much direction about the temperature of the pool.

Original review:
Great gym staff is very friendly. I'm there at 5am and for the front desk personnel to be smiling and cheerful at that hour makes a big difference. My only drawback to a full 5 star is the heater in the pool has been out for a while, I don't know if the gym plans on fixing it but I hope they do. Other than that everything else is great

It’s okay. It’ll get the job done, but the gym feels like it’s in decline. There is a part of the floor with concrete foundation exposed that is coned off. It’s been like that for at least a year, probably more. Foundation issues are evident with the back of the building sagging with cracks all over the walls. The outdoor pool is a hole in the ground, they used to serve coffee back in the day. Nope, not anymore. There used to be a kids club for child care. That space is closed off and no longer used. Not as many classes are happening. A lot of upkeep needed.

One good reason that Gold's Gym on the Austin Hwy is a cut above is that its manager, Warren Young, is a cut above other gym managers. He insists that the facility is clean, his staff is helpful and gracious, and that all members are treated equally. Also, Warren is almost always there running a very tight ship. What's more, he will take time to speak with you. I should add that the front desk forks are terrific. They always act like they are glad to see you and greet you again as you leave.

I typically go to the Quarry or Rodgers Ranch, but unfortunately have had to go to this one multiple times out f convenience. The manager Warren refused to issue me a new scan tag, and I've just been using my phone number to check in, the guy at the front desk gave me a lot of attitude when I last tried to check in with my phone number, he did however issue me a new tag and tells me to not lose it (so I guess issuing it was never an issue?), anyways I'm working out this last time and Warren approaches me and interrupts right before a set, to tell me the same thing the guy at the front told me but in a much ruder demeanor, I told him I'm just going to go to the Quarry and to have a good day, then he shouts at me as I'm walking away that he's gonna crack down on me using my phone number at other gyms. Just weird of him to be so needlessly threatening, and Warren was the same manager on site when I first signed up for Gold's 5 years ago, he made snide comments about my body trying to coerce me into springing for personal training, it was weird and inappropriate. My last complaint, is that the Austin Highway Gold's have the dirtiest loclkerooms of all the gyms I've been to. I've never had an issue with any other Gold's Gym employee, but I'm honestly contemplating just springing for Lifetime , because this experience was so off-putting.
(btw the responder to this comment is not the owner but the manager in question haha, so no they do not take their member's concerns seriously, clearly the ownership takes no responsibility for their managements actions because they have the person responsible for most negative reviews responding to them)

Overall I love the gym, and the staff are fantastic. Some of the corner cutting is frustrating; I'm only able to go late at night, and every time I go the sauna and/or the steam room have been shut off 30 min - 1 hr early. A few weeks ago towels weren't being handed out and it was only 10 when the gym closes at 11. I know it's close to closing but for someone who can only go to the gym from 9-close it's frustrating. Literally, shaking as I wrote this.

Worst experience randomly going to this gym. Middle of my workout the manager Warren Young runs up to me to get up and demand I take my pic for my profile. "If you're gonna come to my gym." I told him thats fine I wont come, if my bank doesnt require a pic why does my gym, as we walks away. Then comes abruptly back up and says or I have to show my ID every time which i flash in 2 seconds cause its on my phone (which he didnt like) and as he walks away i shake my head and he comes back at
me a 3rd time " DON'T GIVE ME ATTITUDE" Like im his child, yelling this at me with lots of other members watching like why is he talk to me like I'm his child. I have to tell him, I told you and at this point, you've come up to me 3 times and YOU'RE HARASSING ME now, so he walks away.
Nonetheless Golds Gym definitely needs to figure out with this
tyrant, and potential LIABILITY and find someone with actual customer service skills and not an angry, gym coach with too much time on his hands.
Been coming to Golds 15+ years, gladly show my ID, no trouble at all but theres infinite and NEW options now avaialble so GO HERE before this one.

Gold’s Gym on Austin Hwy is almost my second home after me being a member for more than 10 years.

This gym is always nice and clean.
They changed Front desk staffs many times. Glad they don’t have the grumpy one any more.
It is important for members, who may have been tired and stressed out from their work, to see a happy person at front desk when they walk in the gym.

The night shift front desk Michael worths two thumbs up 👍🏼. He is always very pleasant to welcome members when they come in and when they leave.

He always answers questions professionally. AND he remembers what members want when they walk into the gym. Either 1 hand towels or 1 bath towel, He remembers what you want! By the time you scanned your membership bar code, he already hands to you the towel you want!
It is a small thing but it takes effort and care to memorize different members’ needs.

Micheal, keep up the good job and you deserve a promotion! 😆

One of the better gym experiences in town, for under $60 per month. The facility is clean and usually well-stocked. Sometimes they can get behind with the towel service (they should hire a few more launderers), but overall a satisfactory experience. The abundance of less expensive options in town helps tame the crowds, too. Indoor pool is decently maintained.

My drama teen (grandson) and I joined Gold's this week and I'm so happy to say he and I are of the same opinion, first impressions mind, that it's an awesome place to go. I joined for the Silver Sneakers programs offered at no charge thru my health insurance, an extra perk. So free is always good. Mr Picky (grandson again) has a monthly responsibility now of $50 plus tax, I reckon. An excellent investment in himself, I would say. The staff are delightful and knowledgeable, the equipment impressive and clean, the pool looks wonderfully inviting and I am anxious to avail myself of the experience of the sauna room and steam room. I have been a proud member of Gold's Gym in Alamo Heights for over two wonderful years, and it has been an incredibly positive and enriching experience. The moment I walk through the doors, I am greeted by the friendly smiles of the staff and the warm camaraderie of fellow members. The sense of community here is truly something special.

Committing to my health and well-being has become a joyful routine as I make my way to Gold's Gym three times a week. The array of facilities and equipment available never fails to impress me. One of my favorite aspects is the dedicated space for free weights. Lifting those weights has helped me build and tone my muscles and given me a newfound appreciation for the importance of stability and balance in my fitness journey.

Speaking of balance, the pull-up assist machine has been a game-changer for me. Pull-ups are undeniably crucial for overall upper body strength, yet many struggle with them, especially when starting out. The pull-up assist machine provides the perfect solution, allowing everyone to gradually build up their strength and achieve those pull-up milestones. It's a small marvel that highlights Gold's Gym's commitment to ensuring every member's success.

As I gracefully embrace the passage of time, I've realized that stability is a cornerstone of good health, particularly as we age. The emphasis on balance and control in my workouts has enhanced my physical abilities and contributed to my overall well-being. I firmly believe that as we grow older, our health becomes our most valuable asset, and Gold's Gym is a place that wholeheartedly supports this philosophy.

While the equipment is good, the people truly set Gold's Gym in Alamo Heights apart. The genuine connections I've formed with the staff and fellow members have added an immeasurable richness to my fitness journey. Being a regular at the same time has allowed me to forge friendships with those who share my passion for health. We cheer each other on, offer support, and celebrate each milestone, creating a sense of belonging that delights every visit.

As someone who continues to participate in soccer after an 54 years actively, I can confidently attest to the transformative power of regular exercise. If the benefits of staying active could be packaged into a pill, it would undoubtedly be the best-selling medicine of all time. Gold's Gym, even with its mix of equipment, has provided me with the ideal blend of resources and community to not only keep up with soccer enthusiasts half my age but to thrive alongside them.

In conclusion, Gold's Gym Alamo Heights has been essential to my life, enriching my physical and social well-being in ways I never thought possible. The dedicated staff, the welcoming atmosphere, and the comprehensive facilities all contribute to an environment where health truly is wealth. I am grateful for the friendships I've formed, my progress, and the support I've received on this incredible health journey. Here's to many more years of health, happiness, and success at Gold's Gym!

I used to be a daily regular at this gym, but stopped coming due to mental health reasons. I decided it was time to start going on the regular basis again and honestly, I was looking forward to it!

But, the staff is new of course (It's been a couple years since I stopped going), and when I went in, I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable before in my life...

The gentlemen at the front counter wouldn't speak verbally to me, when I tried to ask questions about the towel service and if any rules had changed he looked at me and didn't say a word, when I asked which kiosk to scan at he just pointed and rolled his eyes. He never stopped folding towels and other tasks so it felt like I was spending the whole time trying to get his attention

Then, when a larger buffer gentlemen who definitely was there a bit more regularly walked in behind me, the man behind the counter suddenly turned all smiles and welcomed him with a loud boisterous "Welcome to Gold's!"

I'm small framed, and that's genetics. But making me feel like I don't belong whether it was intentional or unintentional really did do a number to my self esteem. To the point that I haven't gone back since because I don't feel welcome.

Even after the uncomfortable experience at the checkin counter, he walked past me multiple times and just glared at me. But yet, he didn't glare at anyone else in the gym? When I went to the locker room to change, he followed me in for unknown reasons. I ended up not changing, grabbing my things, and just leaving. I usually shower so I don't sweat in my car but I would've had to ask the man for a towel and really didn't want to have to approach him again.

As I walked out, I heard him say have a good day to four people that walked out ahead of me, but yet, when I walked out, I was just stared at and looked up and down.

I felt like I was in gym class in middle school again. And now, I don't want to even try and go to another gym again after years of building my body confidence again.

2-stars, because ignoring the above situation, the facility itself is always spotless, the gym always smells sanitary, and I've never seen a dirty machine ever. They do truly take their cleanliness to another level which is why I love this specific location

Overall,

Just go to the Quarry location where the people at least don't make you feel less than.

Just let the manager know that he's had bubble gum buildup in one of the showers for three weeks and showed him a pic. Instead of thanking me for letting him know, he wanted to argue how long the gum had been there (totally missed the point) and seemed to want to stare me down. I actually thought for a second that the GM was actually going to swing at me? Wow! Since he challenged me to post the picture I showed him, I'll grant him that favor! #badattitude

Trying to understand where these 4-5 star reviews are coming from?? Perhaps some haven't been to updated gyms in other locations or cities? I'll meet any of those giving a 5 star review there one evening and do a walk through with you! Maybe you've missed the hole in the floor near the back dumbells that been orange taped for who knows how long? Old equipment, staff doesn't do a great job of keeping up locker rooms, really run down. Spin bikes are bad! Asked about any new ones of servicing, was told that the general maintenance guy would "take a look at them", code for nothing will be done. So in the passed I got jerked around by trainers that double booked sessions and a sales guy who signed me up for the works when I really had no clue what I was getting into. It turned out to be a waste of money on top of them pressuring me to continue sessions for $500 however many weeks back then, 3 weeks per every $500? to get me to my goal weight. Unfortunately, at my own fault, asking for a manager I never heard back from, i just threw my hands and wasted money for a minute before canceling. Which at that time was a 60 - or 90-day cancel.
Anyways, on my own, i figure out a nutrition plan and home exercises for free and lost over 50 pds. But I've recently decided to come back because it's time to take it further than what I've been doing. Along with weather flucuations getting in the way at times i decided to give this gym another chance.
I understand there is new management and new plans that include all, and despite the location being a Silver location, it is now also at a fare price. Considering all the amenities, the pool, equipment, steam, and sauna, showers. It's a great location still.
But why I'm giving it a 4 star is because the employees still feel the same. I'm not going to point fingers and just say employees to speak out loud. But there's a couple of not that great employees I've already encountered.
I asked if a particular item was sold here and from the front desk, this employee stared at the wall for a few seconds, and sarcastic said, no.
I had a personal trainer calling and texting, saying that I was owed a session as a new member and i should reach out when I'm there again. And when I did, they said I'm not there get with the front desk for my schedule. Something I felt could've maybe been done beforehand.
It's the same great location but also the same complacent lack of support and communication already with in my first month back again.
But aside from that, if you're going in aware of what you want to achieve and don't have to bother with the staff, you're golden.

Nice gym, but nothing special. Staff isn’t particularly friendly, not rude either. Just doesn’t feel very comfortable.

This is my favorite gym in San Antonio. This location is really small but has everything for a good workout.

The staff is really nice and so are the members.

Even when it’s busy, there’s still room to do something else.

I just like it here.

The women's workout room should be updated. Bathrooms need to be cleaned better. There were no paper towels in the dispenser near the front.

Very clean and well run. Could use more bench press equipment. Not enough of them, people move them out of area(last time there were two) and one guy was using one over an hour. Buy more, and put a sign up to share and don't remove.
Otherwise... lots of variety, great staff.

During the pool aerobics class for seniors you should leave a lane open for lap swimmers. The reason given for non lap swimmers was because the "splashing" was too loud; meanwhile the instructor is blasting David Bowie on the boom box and 25 people are all having a grand time. Leave a lap lane open like all other gyms do and do and don't lie to members with baloney excuses like "splashing is too loud."

11:00 am update - Warren did speak to me personally after leaving this review and I appreciate that. It's a sign of hood customer service and character. I still think that one lane should be kept open, but we can agree to disagree. Thanks Warren!

Black level facility for all the amenities ( no hot tub 😕) but has a steam room in each locker room and a dry sauna. Love this place. Never too packed.

I enjoy the gym but it’s gone downhill from the past few months. Women’s section constantly has trash left from the previous night. I’ll find used paper towels, old water bottles, or towels left on machines the next morning.
Gym needs to enforce the clean up of guests more. Constantly seeing guests not wipe down machines after use.

We moved from the golds gym location in the quarry to the Alamo Heights location and found the facility to be top notch. The manager, Warren, does an outstanding job. Both the gym and the dressing room are always clean and orderly. Super friendly staff and gym members.

I love it here!!! I have been coming for almost 6 months now and although sometimes I wish they had a little more variation in equipment, all of the workers make it such a welcoming and fun environment. I have never not been greeted with a smile or some positive reinforcement!!!! Very very glad I found this golds!

Great gym. Ive been to three golds gyms in the city and this one by far is the best.
1. Restroom and locker room are very clean.
2. Machines are always working if not the turn time is quick.
3. When you walk in you're greeted like family.
4. All employees are saying hello and if you need any help with the machines.
5. But the best thing is the swimming pool.
6. They are constantly keeping up with swimming .
7. They always have clean towels when needed.
I recommend it to any one who wants to change their life style.
