In August 2024, I started a multi-gym membership. After visiting several locations over the past year, the Gold's Gym on Babcok is my favorite!

It may not be the newest gym, but it more than makes up for that with it's friendly staff (shout out to Cristi, Andrew, and Brent), it's diverse and welcoming commuity, a spacious workout floor, and some unqiue machines that the other locations don't have.

On a personal note, what really keeps me coming back is my personal trainer, Andrew V. I took advantage of my free training session when I signed up, and I've been training with Andrew ever since. His friendly, supportive attitude makes every workout fun, but he also encourages me to push myself. Just so you know, I'm over 50, and Andrew has been very patient with me! He continually creates fresh workouts for me to use, and his knowledge and passion about weighlifting is contagious. If you're considering investing in personal training, I highly recommend Andrew. 😎🏋🏻‍♀️

I hate that you can't sign up only at facility

I signed up on May 19, 2025, paying a $10 sign-up fee and then $32 a month. Since I was only staying temporarily in San Antonio, I planned to use it for two months and then cancel.

What they never told me at sign-up is that there’s also a hidden annual fee of $60 If I had known about that, I would never have joined. The main reason I signed up was because I thought it was a short-term, affordable option.

On July 24, I called to cancel and was assured over the phone that I would not be charged again. Later I discovered they had a 30-day notice policy, which nobody mentioned to me. Despite not using the gym since July and no longer even being in the country, they still charged me another $32.

So far, I’ve wasted over $150 on a service I did not use. The biggest issue here is the lack of transparency and terrible communication—from hidden annual fees, to misinformation on the phone, to surprise charges.

I strongly recommend that anyone considering Gold’s Gym be very cautious. Their policies are not clearly explained, and once they charge you, it’s nearly impossible to get your money back.

I’ve been a member at this Gold's Gym for a while now, and I want to start by saying the staff here is great. They're always friendly, welcoming, and attentive whenever I have questions or need help—definitely a highlight of this location.That said, the gym’s management needs serious improvement, especially when it comes to maintaining equipment and cleanliness. The treadmills—particularly the ones immediately to the right when you enter—are constantly breaking down. It feels like they're fixed temporarily, only to stop working again a day or two later. This has been an ongoing issue, and it's frustrating when you're trying to get a consistent cardio routine going.On top of that, the hygiene standards for the equipment are lacking. The dumbbells are often dirty, and every time I use them, my hands end up grimy. The same goes for the treadmills, which usually have a noticeable layer of grime that doesn’t seem to get wiped down regularly.This gym has a lot of potential, and the front-line staff does their best—but management really needs to step up when it comes to upkeep and cleanliness.

They offered me a 30-day free trial I went there one day for not even an hour and decided this wasnt for me and yet they still charged me 30 days afterwards I called and let them know that I was charged and they told me they would take care of it with the manager Christine the manager never even bother calling back I've called multiple times...
It is gym needs a new manager every time I call and ask for Christine it doesn't matter what time is it she's never available I don't even think she's running the shift this is ridiculous

Gym has an older feel to it. Got older equipment. Sauna is not that great. Doesn't really get hot all the time. Last time I used it I didn't even sweat. Might have been broken but not sure. The positive is that it does have a lot of machines. It also has a basketball court where you can play some games. Also I have never seen it crowded where you can't jump on a machine or get a bench you might want. My biggest compliant are the weights. They could use some new dumbells and dumbells rack. The biggest problem is nobody there knows how to rerack the weights. So sometimes you have to hunt weights down.

...money grab. I realize that business is business. But and at the same time to be a paying customer for the past 6 months, then to be denied entry because a past balance when I wasn't even attending the gym is to put it frankly...not right. Then, thanks to Michael's help, or not, I justified that I paid said balance but it wasn't showing, I show the boy my balance that I did in fact pay in and then he states "...that I should come back in a few days (as per the internet).

I haven't been to this location in a while because I usually go to de zavala. It's always been hot in this gym but it's ridiculous in this gym now. Stop trying to save money and turn the temperature down a few degrees. And it's even more hot in the locker room. It use to be an ice box in there and now it doesn't feel like the a/c is on at all.

Edit: actually fix your damn a/c's. Both thermostats on the main floor are set in the 60s but only cooling to the mid 70s. It's been like this since I started coming here 2 years ago. The manager then said they were fixing it. Clearly that's not the case and obviously they couldn't care less. Gold's gym is being run into the ground. I bet the whole company will be out of business in the next 5 years. You can't even call their corporate headquarters to complain because they know how terrible they're running it. And don't respond with "we appreciate your feedback blah, blah, blah". Just fix the a/c.

I've been coming to this gym for over a decade now... this is the first time I actually can say I LOVE IT HERE. I've watched this location go through many leadership changes, and each time being a member that enjoys playing ball here, we've felt neglected and some time downright unwanted. At one point, i think they were trying to get rid of the basketball court... the bread and butter of this gym. Rim was always shaky, nets were always torn, floors were always dirty and slippery... which need a good retouching, by the way. Nothing a good buffing and waxing/re-coating couldn't fix. So I came in on a Monday, then again on Wednesday and again on Friday, and noticed a significant change in the gym... the floors had been uncharacteristically clean the entire week. The nets were fixed. Rims are no longer shaky... and the cleaning lady was everywhere... always. I inquired about these changes to some of the guys, and they all gave credit to the new manager Cristi. I was like, who is Cristi? I made it a point to meet her as I have done to many other managers, and she was very down to earth and easy to talk to. More than that, I noticed the passion in her tone about maintaining this gym at the highest level possible. In this era where most people usually demand a reward for little to no effort... It is refreshing to see someone who actually takes their job very seriously. We chatted for an extended period... and I must say... I am excited about all that she is doing for us. As long as Golds continue to employ and empower people of this caliber... they will always have the loyalty of customers like myself who would rather stay in a place where the customers' needs are first... rather than going some place else that may have a cheaper premium but lousy service. Well done, Golds. If you ever get a chance to read this, Cristi... Thank you for always striving for excellence. We appreciate it.

Favorite gym to go to in San Antonio. I go to primarily play basketball and one thing I truly appreciate is the upkeep of the court and the quick turnaround for any issues. Although this is still my favorite training gym, I am disappointed that they removed some of the gym's best equipments (Lifecycle Leg Extensions, Power Squat, Unconventional Leg Press, Incline Back Row Bench and Fixed Row Bar, Elevated Olympic Bar Back Row and Straight Leg Deadlift Platform). I do love that they have some of the toughest Stairclimbers and Step Mills I have used at any gym. Nevertheless, I still have an awesome training week when it's time to visit this gym.

Absolutely the best gym I've ever been to. The staff is always polite and professional. The equipment is not overly complex but just right for those wanting to fulfill their goals. One of the better commercial gyms. This gym has a lot of squat racks and an impressive variety of machines. It's suprisingly not overloaded with cardio junk.
On average the members are a bit stronger/bigger than most commercial gyms, which is refreshing.
On the other hand, the dumbbell rack is a mess. I have never been able to find the dumbbells that i needed.

This is a gem of a gym! Golds always has represented a quails gym, Golds Callghan provides a great experience. I've made it my home gym proudly.

I started utilizing a certified Golds trainer and that was the greatest gift I could give myself. The thought process my trainer Joseph has taken to help me reach my personal goal has exceeded my expectations.

He has taken into consideration my age, injuries and schedule to provide me a great foundation to continue to build on. I've lost 3 inch from my waist, toned up and has really turned my weaknesses into strengths.

Not all gyms are equal, take the time to stop in, ask for my guy Joseph and start TODAY.

The gym is not well air-conditioned so it's pretty uncomfortable working out, and every time I went at least two or three of the machines would not be working. Went to the free trial of PT session and it was the worst, as the trainer David stopped in about 20 min and dragged me to the office to go over prices. Worst of all, the group exercise room only had fans and no air conditioning--thought I was going to melt during classes.

The only reason this location is getting 2 starts instead of 1 is the great Zumba classes with Felipe.

I noticed one of the fly machines broke last week. It's already fixed. Under 1 week. Anytime pads wear out they are replaced. Staff and management address each and every concern. I've been a gold's gym member on and off for about 8 years. Been to tons of locations. This is not the fanciest one, but it is by far the best location I've ever been to. Great management and staff can't ask for much more.
