Has improved a little over time but I've generally been dissatisfied with the lack of proper maintenance and cleaning. The location is often packed so its even more important to keep up with it, especially since membership is almost $50 which is insane given its state a lot of the time. A bit of a nitpick here but please tone down the music, most people dont listen to it and listen to their own stuff (including myself) and I dont want to have to ruin my hearing further turning up my headphones to drown out the poor gym music choices.

I'm really disappointed with this location. I was a member of LA fitness until covid, got married and my husband wanted me to join because this was his place of workout. I decided to join some zumba classes, martial combat, and finally shapes. For the last few months its been nothing but subs, then new instructors, now the classes or being moved around which is very inconvenient to thise who are faithful. No one ask us for our opinion as paying memeber they just do it. At this point, I am either going to give up the classes or find another gym. My instructor who taught mortal combat aerobics was switched to a different date and now teaches hape and I enjoy her and her class but now she is being moved to Saturday mornings at 8 am. I am not retired and I work Saturday mornings so this wont work for me. We are very disappointed, meaning memebers who have been faithful to these classes and have watched our class attendance get smaller and smaller because of all of the inconsistent changes.

You can’t keep stealing from people.

Went to Gold’s Gym on Culebra while I was stationed in San Antonio. Before I left I was told I needed to come in and sign a cancellation form with the manager so I got a lift in and signed that I was cancelling. The following month I was charged for a new month. I informed them I had signed a form; they apologized and said they would take care of it. Another month passed, same thing. Called, said they didn’t have the form but would take care of it. It is now the third month I’ve called but a new excuse was made. Now it’s that the previous manager no longer works there and nobody currently there can do anything but there is no record of me cancelling. If going to Gold’s was an option, I’d still go but as I no longer live in the state due to being stationed elsewhere, I don’t think it’s wild to ask to not be charged as well as being refunded what I am owed. If they’re going this to me, they’re doing it to others. This is theft, plain and simple. I would urge folks to consider looking elsewhere when looking for a gym because it’s clear they’re okay taking your money long after they can provide a service to you

They replaced both of the leg extension machines…what an L. The new ones are medieval contraptions. They’re not user friendly, the back adjustment shouldn’t be impossible to fix. It’s annoying and embarrassing.

The gym has a strong nasty odor like sweat, maybe it’s their air conditioning system. Some of the treadmills the buttons don’t properly work or if you increase the speed it makes a very loud noise as you’re using it.

Never back there again
Gave it a chance twice and it has been extremely disappointing and upsetting with the customer service , the availability of the space, very crowded plus dirty in the sauna area where people get in with their dirty shoes from outside and their sweaty and dirty clothes .
In general NEVER AGAIN !

Good gym, nice staff. Maybe a little too nice, though. I love seeing the gym getting in a good workout taking care of themselves. It does get crowded but not unmanageable. The problem is that they have posted rules that say "no cell phone use or recording equipment". Yet there are some people who use the gym equipment like a sofa and sit on it for 20 minutes(not exaggerating) without working out. I passed the machine up and planned on coming back. I do not expect ZERO phone usage in the gym because I pull out mine to skip a song now and then, but if you are going to sit and type an email, go somewhere else. I said something before to a person and was asked by staff to "bring it to their attention" instead of confronting people. When I have done this, I was told that those people are members and have access to the gym equipment just like anybody else. Do not make gym rules if you are not willing to enforce them. Maybe walk the floor and try and mitigate it? Especially when it's really busy. Some people have obligations that dont allow them to hang out for 2 hours in the gym to get a 30-minute workout in. I hope this does not come across as rude or Karen like behavior. If people were more conscious of other people and had some self-awareness, this wouldn't be a problem. If you need somebody to walk the floors for you and who is comfortable with managing confrontation in a positive way let me know i could use a side job.

Respectfully,
Donald

Unfortunately, I have to join the group of reviewers that got their vehicle broken into. I started using this location after the Bandera Pointe gym went out of business. Even though the staff is quite unfriendly, the gym itself meets my needs. However, it's not worth it to constantly fear that my car is going to be vandalized while I'm working out. It's crowded too, causing my workouts to take longer than I'm used to. I'd prefer to be able to just focus on my workout without having to peek out every couple of minutes to check on my car. With the number of complaints about this issue, it appears that mine is not an isolated instance. I've been to other big box gyms that have a staff member or security guard patrol the parking lot in a golf cart, but it appears as though this location might not be willing to take those steps.

Please be careful with Gold's Gym. My vehicle broken into twice in three weeks. Person stealing must know the camera's do not work. Workers have told me; district manager doesn't want to fix cameras. Even cops know it's a common area for break ins.

★ 4

The gym itself is great. I've been going for two years and it's been a great experience. My issue with them is that vehicles get broken into regularly there, and they make absolutely no attempt to mitigate it. They don't light the parking lot well enough, they don't have security cameras, they don't even have signs to tell people not to leave valuables in the car. Recent break-ins have me looking for somewhere else to work out.

Edit:
The manager reached out to me regarding the parking lot issues. I'm adjusting my review to four stars because they did add some signs saying not to leave valuables in your vehicle (with more on the way) as well as contact the police to ask for some help. As I said before, the gym itself is great. The machines are kept in working order and clean and there are plenty of machines. Even though it's usually busy, there isn't usually the feeling of it being crowded (except during peak times). The showers and restrooms are well kept, and they have a sauna, but I've never used it. The pool is also kept reasonably clean. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is that I still think more could be done with the security issues in the parking lot.

The front desk associates are friendly and always in a great mood! The gym goers are friendly as well. The problem is the night time cleaning lady. She is very rude. The cleaning lady loves to put her phone on speaker in the locker room and she talks so loudly on the phone pretty much yelling. I can hear this woman through my headphones. When she is cleaning, she pushes her way through you and others while talking loudly on her phone. When I put my things away, I went to use the restroom and she almost pushed me into a stall with how aggressively she walked past me while talking loudly on her phone. She is unaware that she works in a public environment. “Excuse me” does not exist in this woman’s vocabulary. Manners and etiquette do exist when people leave the house. If you want to be rude, please keep those behaviors inside of your home. I was at the towel station with my hand about to grab the paper towel and she came around the corner and quickly snatched it and snatched the bottle from the holder then looked at me as if she knew what she just did. Later, I was on my way to another workout machine and she aggressively walked past me nearly knocking me down. Please do not hire workers who are unable to conduct themselves is a public environment. I understand, being a cleaner is not a fun job but if you hate your job that much and dislike the crowd/people around you, then stay home or find a job you actually enjoy. If you can’t put your phone call on hold until after your shift, please quit so you can spend the rest of your days on the phone. No one wants to hear you speaking loudly on the phone and the person you have on the speaker.

Ben at Gold's Gym consistently goes above and beyond to ensure a positive and supportive experience for every member. His dedication, enthusiasm, and personalized guidance have made a noticeable difference in my fitness journey... but the men’s sauna should be decommissioned, torn apart, and rebuilt... Then maybe cleaned every so often? Otherwise solid place to run no where and throw around heavy shi 💪 🏃

Update date: I mentioned the sauna in the men’s locker room needed some work, and within two days, Jacob had someone in there rebuilding it. (Shout out to Adam) which says a lot about how he runs things. You can tell he takes pride in the place, and it shows through the whole team. The staff’s respectful, the gym’s always clean, and the environment’s welcoming. It’s a well-run spot. I’ll miss it!

Gold’s needs a VIP, separate locker room with personal lockers. If you want to get really fancy a separate jacuzzi. Maybe what, Extra 20/month?

Gets a little crowded but haven’t had to wait too long. Most people are courteous to each other. They could stay open a little later.

Update: week 7 and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments from friends and coworkers. Pretty happy with results so far. Back, shoulders, arms chest and legs are all coming along well. I still have a belly :(. At least my chest has caught up to it. Maybe less fat/carbs and more protein idk.

It's nice and clean... No nonsense gym... Get in, get it in and get gone. Getting results is up to you lol. If you go at the right time you'll have EVERYTHING you need as far as available machines... Go at peak times and... Well... It's a bit busy.. but never is it unbearable (check Google for peak time info). Pool is Kool. Bathrooms are always well kept. Attendants don't always greet... But then again, who goes there for pleasantries. The outdoor court is just a decor piece... Nobody plays on this bs court... Want to get a good hoop session in... Check out Babcock and Callaghan Gold's any day from 5pm - 11pm. Oh... I just started my workout journey today and... Forgot my head phones... Music selection was pretty good. No complaints. Parking is plentiful and if you live around the area I highly suggest biking to the gym... The rds and sidewalks are paved and wide enough to enjoy the ride there and back. If that's not in your schedule, the classes here are awesome. Especially the morning cycling classes.

My suggestion to the staff, please make an effort to engage with members... A simple pleasant greeting goes a long way. For you and the client.

All in all, this would be at star location if the basketball court was indoors and the staff were more engaging. Other than that... 👌

This Gold’s is very well kept. It’s always clean and the machines are pretty much always in working order and if not, then they aren’t out of commission for very long. One of the larger and more updated Gold’s locations in San Antonio but that’s about where the positives end. The staff leave much to be desired compared to other locations. I’m used to walking in to friendly employees but the ones at this location seem checked out. Most recently I brought in a friend that was considering switching from LA fitness to Golds and the girl working at the front desk had an attitude and seemed annoyed to have to help. He ultimately decided not to get a membership and now I’m considering canceling if that’s the treatment I receive for trying to bring Gold’s more business.

I'm mostly happy with my experiences at this gym, but I have a few suggestions that would encourage me to want to go more often: I don't love the times for the spin classes, and that's a deterrent for me. There are no early morning classes, and by early I mean between 7-9. They have mid-day and evening classes, which is hard for working parents. They also only have a couple squat racks, and that can be frustrating because a lot of people tend to occupy them for long periods at a time which is annoying for people on a schedule.

They do have several benches near the free weights and a decent sized machine section. There is also a large variety of cardio equipment if you like that, including a cardio theatre which is nice.

Customer service at the front desk is very friendly. Coaches are genuine, relatable, and give just the right amount of encouragement to help meet your goals. There’s a variety of equipment that’s usually readily available and cleaning stations set up throughout which is a must-have for any gym. Theresa is my trainer and I have nothing but good things to say about her. She’s helped me feel stronger every session.

I’ve been a loyal member of this gym for nearly a year, attending seven days a week, yet the way you handle billing and customer service is unacceptable. Despite repeatedly asking to adjust my due date to align with my financial schedule, you’ve refused, forcing me to pay late fees every time I’m a few days overdue.

Most recently, I was turned away at the door after driving through traffic, simply because I was five days late on payment. I explained my situation to the manager, including my consistent attendance and payment history, but was still denied entry unless I paid on the spot. This lack of flexibility and disregard for loyal members is appalling.

Policies like these show no respect for long-term customers and make it clear that revenue is prioritized over member satisfaction. I am seriously considering switching gyms and will not recommend this one to anyone until these issues are addressed.

I recently started going to this gym, I love the atmosphere of the people there working out, and locker rooms are always clean! There’s a new manager and he’s very polite and so helpful! The only problem I have is the staff, particularly the girls aren’t the friendliest and sometimes they don’t even greet you when you come in! I want to be able to feel excited and motivated to workout, especially being 8 months postpartum! I already feel self conscious as it is, why do they have to give me ugly faces when I walk into the gym? I don’t understand. I looked at the other reviews and 3 months ago some girl posted the same thing about the staff. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE! We need better staff to make us feel great about going to Golds, like I chose the right gym! Sometimes I feel bullied cause they walk around the gym in pairs just talking and looking at me ugly. I don’t understand?

I’ve been a client for over two years and have consistently paid for multiple personal training sessions. Recently, I invited a friend to try the gym using a free pass. When we arrived, the staff member at the front desk insisted my friend pay for a day pass because we didn’t sign up online ahead of time. I offered to complete the registration on-site through my phone, but she refused, saying we had to pay since we were already there. This experience really dampened my friend's excitement about joining, and now I'm seriously considering switching gyms. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!
Back when I first started coming(2 yrs ago) the staff was very helpful and kind, you would feel welcomed and not intimidated to ask questions.(which is what they’re getting paid for) Now the staff here is H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E. They never welcome you, nor do they try to act like they care. Just very rude and ignore you and are barely at the front desk or attentive. I don’t see why they hire people that are completely insufferable. Once I had received an email from this gold’s gym for some honest recommendations and feedback and I had mentioned how they could do a lot better keeping up with broken equipment/machines or even more updated equipment. I then got a follow up email from the manager that basically said “We import our equipment from a specific location in a warehouse so that’s why a machine took several months to get fixed” and “that they do keep up with equipment as it is updated to their standards.”. Honestly I don’t see the point in asking your loyal members for honest feedback if you just come in completely passive aggressive and defensive. I’ve talked to many of my gym friends about this issue with this gym location and we all agree that we would enjoy this gym better if there was better or even more equipment. The Bandera trails gym is so much more nicer with equipment and the staff is great. I called today to cancel my membership because I’ve grown to dislike this gym overtime with the decline of the quality and the incredibly poor customer service. They then told me that they’d be billing me for ANOTHER month. Despite me trying to cancel it for this month. Don’t even bother with this gym. Complete rip off of your money and they over charge for what you get.

This is my neighborhood Golds gym… the rules have gotten a bit stricter with teenagers not being allowed to workout unless they’re 15 I believe. And for this gym being the only Golds gym in Alamo Ranch the equipment is very old and out dated… or broken most the time. I’ve been a member since it opened up in the later 2000’s and the same equipment has been on the floor since then. Please do something about the maintenance and hire someone that can keep the gym looking clean and up kept.

So I left positive feedback before, but had to come back as I am training with a personal trainer now.
When I started back at the gym (in march I think) I was recovering from a broken foot (tibia/fibula) I just wanted to start getting back in shape.
I had the free consult with Mariel and she's awesome! But I had to wait as I was still recovering. I got to desperate lol the last 3 months my ankle finally started feeling better.
I flagged down the manager (Stephanie I believe that's her name) and told her that I didn't see Mariel in weeks, if I could get a good trainer.
She recommended Carl based on my goals & my situation but still gave me the option to go with Mariel. She provides great customer satisfaction!
I thought I give him a try.

This man is the most respectful trainer I've come across. He's super friendly, interacts well & gives me corrections when needed a people person for sure!

He made me feel so good when I told him I'd like to tone my abs back, loose 18 lbs & tone, I said I don't think I'll grow a booty lol but it's ok( I'm not blessed in the rear lol )
He literally said why not? Anyone can grow glutes if you work at it.
That made my decision to train with him.
He's just amazing! He teaches me the names of all the machines, weights, and what body part they target. He's always focused on everyone he trains!

So I went in to check out the gym. I was greeted by Joanna. She gave me a tour of the gym & listened to my reasons for joining. I told her that I had a membership with PF, but they had no sauna or anything so I canceled & not wanting to drive out to the AFB with San Antonio's crazy traffic! She Said oh you'll love it here." We not only have a sauna, we have a heated hot tub, & and a pool all year round! I was sold. LOL they also have a theater cardio room for privacy which is awesome! She's so friendly, & personable, yet very professional!!
Always get a welcoming greeting upon entering.

I LOVE THAT EVERYTHING IS SEPERATED BY DOORS IN THE WOMENS BATHROOM. TOILETS & SHOWERS HAVE DIFFERENT ENTRANCES & SAUNA.

SUPER CLEAN GYM. Not sure why some left negative review that machines are run down. They seem pretty decent to me. THE ONLY THING I WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT IS NOT HAVING MANY AB MACHINES.

I didn’t want to write a review but the fact that I was told an incident report was never put in after I was harassed during my workout by a short Hispanic man, about 5’5 & 40 or 50 yrs old, is very concerning. As I was trying to put in an incident report with the manager, the man charged at me towards the front desk, I got scared & told the manager that is him & I’m leaving, I’m very uncomfortable. The man yelled, that’s right, you better run! In front of staff and the manager. I called the gym once I got home & Marshall didn’t take any information from me for the report and said he couldn’t do anything.

this gym is HORRIBLE, they tried to charge me for 2 MONTHS after I cancelled my membership. and when I removed my card information from my account they send it to collections??? It took them over a week to even respond to my cancellation email back in MARCH! and it's a horrible system, it should NOT be that hard TO CANCEL A MEMBERSHIP. Not to mention the gym isn't worth paying 40$ a month to go to, the gym is unclean and equipment is falling apart.

**Update#1**: Oct 16, 2021. Stay FAR away! Picked another gym (not Gold"s) over this franchise due to their poor customer service, spa, pools closed and you're going to pay more...NO WAY!

++++++++++++ Original ++++++++++++

Beware! Covid-19 sympathetic...forget it! Charged for May's entirety even though it opened on the 18th. Teens and young adults be careful reading cancellation terms. Try and close your account online, good luck trying to find a link. Relative tried with good effort to close account in person but building closed and was given link. Access to account would not take and was noted by staff at Bandera & Culebra locations site was down for several months and still having problems. BBB complaint submitted no answer from Gold's Gym. Monthly late charges accrued. In person to resolve issue this past week but still had to pay for 1 month of non use. Ask yourself; is this the way you as a customer should be treated or find another gym?

Run don't walk away from these business practices. Class action lawsuits from thousands of members nationwide is in order due to fee charges for May monthly dues paid even though members could not access the gym.

No AC in toilets. Toilet paper is cheap and thin, which makes for bad use of using restroom with hot temperature to add to poor, time consuming, and overall sweaty experience in what should be a quick essential area of the facility.

Automatic paper towels time consuming, also add to dirtiness of restrooms

Not enough benches/tables.

Theatre Cardio room is a waste in utility. Other golds locations have discovered this and changed them into extended workout areas with machines etc.

AC throughout building is horrible aside from CrossFit areas, which they keep closed to not cycle AC to remainder of gym

Men’s locker room needs fans on more often than not.

Showers need more regular cleanings, pressure washing might be a better suggestion if they don’t already.

Sauna is disgusting, small. Small ensures you remain close to strangers as they may or may not have hygienic standards.

Some locations still refuse to open pools/jacuzzis. This location surprising thrives in this area but needs some renovating and thorough cleaning regularly.

Dumbbells/machines need increased inventory for highly used types, machines that are hardly used need to be removed for the increase in popular/more efficient items.

Music is a joke. Feel like I’m in a kids play place or a female oriented fitness area.

Mirrors need to be increased.

Yellow hazard tape and gym etiquette tips need to be posted for gym functionality (people placing benches close to mirrors but inadvertently become in the way of dumbbell access or walking pathway) (machines/benches stationed parallel to persons obstructing mirror to others).

Machines need to be regularly inspected with functional tests because certain machines aren’t reported inoperable unless a visual part is broken or the machine is fully inoperable.

Hours need to return to extended hours, pre-covid. I understand some locations were 24/7 however, they realized quickly Gold’s and gyms alike can continue to maintain profits even with limited hours. However, as another paying customer, this needs to be announced and word needs to be spread for the gym WE support and pay for.

It’s time we uphold businesses to a higher standard and not succumb to what’s easiest or simplistic for the sake of profits or acceptance of low standards.

This is another reason why high quality gyms are becoming more prevalent and soon will likely take over mediocre gyms that believe they’ll never or can’t be replaced simply because seniority or numbers in locations.

I have visited most of the gyms around town. They are all very similar. Pros: Front desk staff is friendly. Mariel is a phenomenal trainer! Been working with her for a month and I look forward to going to the gym now. Cons: Multiple treadmills need repair. Some operate but incline or HR doesn’t work. Cardio Cinema needs an upgrade.

*UPDATED 3-27-2023*
By far one of the most equipped Golds in San Antonio. The gym offers multiple types of classes from GGX, Gold's Fit, and Cycle Studio.
Currently the gym has been getting a little more traffic than usual, but it is understandable due to being the 1st quarter of the year. If you're looking for a spot to start your fitness journey, this location is a great starting point. Personal Trainers here are knowledgeable, the staff is very friendly, and also tend to guests needs to the best of their ability.

This gym also has better upkept (if not newer) equipment compared to other locations around San Antonio area.

This gym is perpetually busy. Despite that, the staff are friendly and somehow everything is clean. However, the equipment is in poor shape and most of the gym is given over to cardio equipment which is a little off brand for Gold’s. Most of all there’s never any equipment available. Half of the equipment is broken and the rest is taken with a crowd waiting to work in.

Bottom line: I’ve been to budget apartment complexes that were better equipped.

Least favorite Gold’s Gym in SA. It’s always busy, and while that’s understandable given it’s location, the high traffic has run down a lot of equipment. Firstly, there’s way too much focus on cardio machines, a lack of cable attachments, and too many machines that are broken. I understand gyms need to do maintenance once in a while as equipment needs repairs, but there are some machines that aren’t marked and are just hanging on. Additionally, some machines they only have one of (e.g. chest fly) and it’s a massive wait to have to use it. You’re better off looking elsewhere. The gym however is pretty decently clean and the staff are professional. Recommend trying other Golds in the area. Still an awesome brand, but this gym isn’t it. As a final aside, they recently bumped up prices. Not worth the solo gym plan for sure.

Amazing staff!

This Gold's gym's location is my to go to. As soon as you enter staff from the lobby will greet you and in my opinion helps to set the mood and gives you a push in a way.

They have decent equipment more treadmills or cardio equipment than others. From the last time, I saw that they have new ones and it seems like they will add more, hopefully. They also have plates, barbells, circuit/HIIT training, cycling, zumba, and other more programs you can join to. Sometimes we enjoy their movie room where you can do your cardio while watching.

Outside, they have basketball court or probably an all in one court but I only see people play basketball. Swimming pool to do your laps and a jacuzzi.

They have a big locker area (bring your own padlock) connected to restroom, shower room and sauna.

Merchandise, snack bars and drinks are offered in the lobby. You can also hire a personal trainer.

The only concern I have in this branch is when you go to Sauna people bring plates, or barbells, have their shoes on, bring loud music inside and sometimes doing a big movement exercise inside. The rules posted on the wall were disregarded.

Overall, the place still good to do your workout.

“You get what you paid for” from a glance the facility looks “clean”, and well spaced out, but keep an open eye and you learn otherwise. The staff is great on their own, but the facility itself has shabby equipment, and their workout spaces are borderline hazardous.

You’ll find ripped weight plates, broken base boardings, and lifted metals. If you come here beware of the poorly maintained equipment.

I live closest to this Golds location. I like it because it is clean, has a large amount of different machines, large locker rooms with showers and a sauna, and spaces for classes. The only drawback I found is the crowding at prime times and that only some machines have two. There is one leg press and I waited 30 minutes for people to be done. It’s a minor inconvenience. Also, I believe all Golds Gyms no longer offer child care. Understandable but still a bummer.

Been going here for about 6 months. This location is pretty clean & the staff are nice. They could use more dumbbells <50lbs, benches, loose barbells, & space to stretch, do yoga, etc. There is ample cardio equipment between the main room & the cinema room. Btw, their movies are usually pretty good. I do wish they would attempt to regulate the outdoor pool temp. In the summer I had to cut my workouts short bc the water was so hot & I'd overheat. I swam yesterday (11-25-22). It was 54° outside & 95% humidity. I was told the water was supposed to be 84° by a staff member before getting in. It was NOT 84°. It felt the same temp as the air when I got in & out of the pool. At least I didn't overheat though.

$25/month is a really good deal for what you get. They have all the necessary amenities to get a good full body workout. I come to this Gold's for the Fit and Cycle classes. This is the best value for my $. I get unlimited Fit (functional fitness) and Cycle classes for a low monthly fee. (If you compare it to other functional fitness "box" and "boutique cycle" classes, they are each 100$+ a month for unlimited classes). The Fit classes helped me prepare for the new physical fitness test in the Army.
They offer classes throughout the day so it works with people's different work schedules. The coaches help with proper form to prevent injuries. They also modify movements depending on your fitness level and experience. I always recommend Gold's esp to those starting their fitness journey. It helps build confidence and consistency.
