I was really hoping to like this gym since it’s very close to me but I would rather drive 15 min to the gym I currently have. There is so much space in this gym but not a lot of equipment. I think this gym is more for older folks. Hope they do a renovation soon

There’s definitely room for improvement. The men’s restrooms upstairs are often dirty and have an unpleasant smell. In the sauna downstairs, many people enter wearing shoes and regular clothes, which not only violates the gym’s policies but also basic hygiene standards. This brings dirt and bacteria into a space meant for relaxation and wellness. The sauna is frequently unclean, and it seems that no one is monitoring its condition. Clearer rules and stronger enforcement are needed to maintain proper hygiene and respect for all members.

The smell of urine in both women restrooms is just unbearable!! I've complained to the receptionist but ' Thanks for letting me know ' was just about what was done regarding this matter as few days later I felt the same strong smell just as I've opened restroom door in both restrooms. Just memorizing this nasty smell make me never come back to this location.

It’s a nice looking gym but man the women’s bathroom stinks so bad. Smells like they never do proper cleaning, the sauna is so awkward due to the seating placement and it’s stinks like sewage.The equipment is all so dirty with dust and what not, you can tell they don’t pay attention to their cleanliness which should be a huge concern for all the bacteria. Surprised they don’t have modern treadmills for being a popular location but who am I to judge. I feel they can do so much better with their cleanliness and equipment honestly.

There seems to be no desire at all to fix the issues people bring up. How hard could it be for a company as big as golds to fix the hot water problem in the showers? Any company this size has regular access to maintenance workers for any kind of equipment. My only guess is management doesn’t care enough to just put a work order in.

I’m not from the area, and this was my first time training at a Gold’s Gym and the experience was phenomenal! The energy in the gym is electric, the equipment is top notch, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The vibe is alive and motivating, easily one of the best gyms I’ve ever lifted at. I’ll definitely be back whenever I’m in San Antonio!

Great experience. Moved back home for about a year and did my first ever personal training with Makayla. Highly recommend as she was goal oriented and helped me tone down while improving my daily discipline (much needed at the time) base strength & stamina. Seeing my face lose some fat after 4-6 months was so cool!

Been going to this locations for 7 years. Good spacing and not too overcrowded during the lunch hours. Showers don't have hot water. They get fixed temporarily, then back to cold within a week or so. As of today, they've been out since early March. Each time I have brought it to their attention they act shocked like it's the first time it's happened. I still keep coming because there isn't another option close by that I know of but might be time to get our corporate program to look elsewhere unfortunately.

This place is horrible to deal with on trying to cancel a membership they billed me for 2-3 months till I noticed after I used the gym 2 times and I asked to cancel and it was a battle ended up paying for 6 more months and nothing but headaches and no stopped bills I had to just block the billing from my bank to make it stop. Don’t recommend getting a membership here at all

Solid location and not cramped. Aside from the basic “this is a gym” nothing else stands out. LOTS of little things need to be addressed here: paper towel dispensers are regularly empty or broken, showers are frequently all hot water or no hot water, shower curtains had huge holes in them for months, and when they finally were replaced, they’re so small there are 3-4” gaps on both sides, AC system in the free weight area was broken for upwards of a year, fans in locker room are frequently off, and multiple staff members have no clue how to turn them back on, multiple machines are down for maintenance for weeks at a time, and for reasons unknown, the staff took down ALL the clocks off the gym floor. This wouldn’t be an issue if the TVs were actually turned on and showed the time, but it’s pretty hit and miss. Gotta do better, Gold’s. Pretty simple fixes.

I am so thankful for Kegan and his beautiful heart! I had some membership issues and couldn’t get them figured out. Kegan helped solve everything with patience and a smile in less than 15 minutes. His help was such a blessing to a big membership mess I had gotten myself into. Clean gym, a manager that cares and a beautiful location!

I had an unpleasant experience with the staff inn the from counter, I approach to point that somebody was dropping weights causing a very disrespectful environment and the guy in charge, I point the rules wish is the number 1 'do not drop weights ", then the guy tell me that the rules are old and they need to be updated and he will talk to the corporate, this was obviously a sarcastic way to mock of me and I feel the lack of empathy and the low quality on customer service culture unfortunately I have a year agreement and I'm force to complete the agreement other way I will be send tocollections . It would be nice if someone can reach me and just improve the customer service experience

The customer service here and support is as miserable as most big chain gyms. Joshua Guzman advised on helping me settle a mistaken outstanding balance, required that I submit all this paper work, and then ghosted me. They make false promises to resolve membership issues and then send you to collections. Just rotted. It has taken me 8 months to resolve this issue on my own with no help from the team here at Gold's. I would avoid.

Beware of cancellation scam! If you are thinking of signing up don’t. Pay a day pass which will end up being cheaper in the long run. Membership is a scam, take pictures and/or video of cancellation form along with staff member who received your cancellation form, (which they don’t like) however there is no accountability so you need to hold them accountable. They will not process your cancellation and you will continue to get billed.

Very poor equipment maintenance - there’s consistently more broken than functional, and most of the broken equipment has no sign on it. Dirty locker rooms, and the personal trainers completely dominate equipment for their clients.
Update: downhill, this business still exists solely out of geographic monopoly; if almost any gym whatsoever opened within 5 miles, this location would be deserted. Common hobby at this gym is grumbling & commiserating with the other patrons about how bad it is, even compared to the other admittedly awful locations in SA

Don't sign the contract unless you plan on paying an additional 260.00 in cancelation fees. Not only did they say I was clear and everything was canceled, I got hit by their collections team AGAIN even though I have proof of emails of all payments. It's easier to pay it but it's definitely part of their scam. Poor poor business model, and there's plenty of complaining about it from other comments.

Fun place to work out. I like the big windows so i can watch all the cars while i work out. The view is really pretty at night. I enjoy this location because i can walk over to whole foods afterwards to shop for healthy food after a good workout.

While the gym itself is great, the billing practices are not. I have cancelled my membership in person and followed up multiple times, including speaking with the general manager named Josh. Nobody seems to care and just keep charging for all 3 of our memberships. I have filed a complaint with BBB since I cannot get anyone to comply with a simple request to cancel. Read some BBB reviews about Golds Gym before you sign up. This apparently is a common fraudulent billing practice with Golds following an attempt to cancel.

I had my property stolen as well. Took my wallet and keys out of my gym bag. The staff can easily look at the cameras and see who did it but “their hands are tied”. Another poster stated his things got stolen so the thief is male and female. This leads me to believe the thieves are targeting this gym and are suffering no consequences whatsoever or it’s an inside job. In the age of technology where everyone’s actions are being recorded, this gym is looking the other way. Do not leave anything unattended, not even in the lockers. The woman who took my things is on their camera system, this gym could easily locate her and at least tell the authorities. I already filed a police report. Please be careful coming here.

Very convenient location, near Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Lincoln Heights HEB, which is important to me for multi-tasking. Plenty of parking. The manager, Kegan was very friendly, knowledge and helpful setting me up with guest passes for my sons on holiday break from college. This location does have some "bodybuilding " equipment like platforms and a separate area for this type of work out. I enjoyed the layout, Cardio machines near windows, adequate amount of free weights and machines. Group Fitness classes are also convenient- good variety and friendly, certified instructors. Would definitely recommend this location.

I’ve been a member of golds a couple of different times. Both times the gyms were adequate, although lacking as far as variety of equipment, and this particular gym at the quarry was always very warm inside like they didn’t set The AC adequately. When machines would break, they seem to be fixed fairly quickly although some took forever. My one star review is because when I filled out a cancellation request, I made sure to do so two days before the next payment was drafted. Therefore, it would be my last. When I went to the front desk, they had to call someone off the work out floor to come help me. He gave me a sheet to fill out and said it would be taken care of. Now I’m getting notices that I still owe money because the request was not put in that day and was done two days after my payment was drafted. I like to try different gyms as I get bored going to the same one, but I will not be signing up again at golds.

I had an awesome experience here! Visiting from The Netherlands, needed a place to continue my half marathon training. Called to ask for a week membership, was called back at the time stated. When I came in with my mom, Ana Zigler Gen mgr greeted us and gave us a tour of the facilities explaining how the machines I wanted to use worked. She was so enthusiastic and helpful!! Even my mom is now talking about taking classes here, Ana's enthusiasm was infectious. Thank you Gold's Gym for providing a place for me to continue my goals even on vacation. Will be back next time!
Edit Feb 2023- and now I was in San Antonio to take care of my mom for a month. Needed somewhere to continue my Marathon Training. Both Treadmill and free weights. Signing in for a month membership was a bit concerning... I was afraid that I would get stuck with extra costs, that the monthly membership will not end after one month. We shall see. The person signing me in did not seem experienced and was just giving me a story she was told to tell. Next day got a totally different story and was able to cancel my membership immediately, which will hopefully be in effect now, averting additional costs. It's all automated now, no cash on site which is safer. But the gym was Good 'ole Gold's, a comfortable place to achieve my goals!!

One of the absolute worst Gold's Gyms in SA, and they have some tough competition.
There is not enough squat racks, plate machines and preset weight machines, free weight benches, you name it, theres not enough. It has a terrible layout. The cardio machines often don't work if you can find an open one to try.
Worst times to go is ALL DAY. The people that frequent this location have gotten substantially worse and more shady. Lots of men that are absolutely disgusting from their uncontrolled sweat to their absolute horrible stench of unwashed clothes and equipment. Tons of broken lockers that don't have the mechanism to slide your lock through. caught someone in the act of trying to bolt cut my lock on my locker about a week ago. front desk seemed unconcerned.
The mens sauna is often broken by people who pour water on it.
The showers have mold above the tiles and the warm to hot water is hit and miss.
I've gone to old gyms before with old machines and bare bones stuff and still would not have as terrible experience as at this GOLDs. This is clearly a neglected location.
I used to come here everyday about 2 years ago and switched gyms but now have a multigym pass. in that time frame this location has gone into the dumps.
Only thing i cant review is the classes.
They should take the Golds Xfit out and use it as more normal gym space.

The gym lacks a lot of essential gym equipment. AC never works so expect to have a heat stroke. VERY busy compared to other gyms in the area so expect to wait a long time for particular equipment. I don't think it's fair that you have to pay an extra month when you cancel before the next bill date. Was given the wrong information when I signed up.

Billing issues so bad, you should never make the mistake of joining. The location itself is not to blame, but also didn't help. They overbilled me and after 3 months of trying and a BBB report, they stuck to their lie and I paid to avoid a credit ding to my report. It's a nice gym, and close to my home, so they've probably lost a customer for the next decade. The billing is all referred to a corporate machine that lies, deceives, and defrauds. Once they get a hold of your credit card the fees you agreed to will never be enough.

I was visiting San Antonio for a few weeks and I was eager to find a good gym to workout. So I decided to research the closet gym in my area. I came across gold gyms at the quarry so I decided visit the gym. Definitely, an incredible gym very clean, well maintained, I did not found any broken equipment, Spacious, also with very nice view from the second floor and incredibly warming staff. when I met billy the manager at golds gym he was extremely helpful, he showed me all the option I had, since I was just going to be working out temporarily at the gym and prices definitely worth it. He gave me a full tour of the gym, showed me where everything was; including the option of taking advantage of some of their classes. He is definitely well rounded on the fitness industry and knows his craft and extremely professional. I really enjoyed the experience at gold gym at quarry if I do pass through San Antonio again I will be going back. It is really hard to find good gyms around specially traveling. I do recommend golds gym at the quarry in San Antonio Tx.

The San Marcos Gym is nice. I went to cancel at to cancel at the quarry location, front desk lady was busy and asked me to fill out paper and she would enter in later. 17 days later I am being called about paying for a month after I cancelled saying there's a 30 day overlap and there's a late fee on top of paying for an extra month you didn't want. This is absurd and not okay!!!!!

Meh. Gym is ok. I guess it gets the job done. I would think with it being Golds it would have more and better equipment. No proper hack squat machine, barbell press station, dip station, and missing a lot of kettlebell sizes. Also feel for the price, there should be towel service. I also hate how they charge you $20 if your card wasn't updated. Like, my card was lost so I hadn't got a new one yet when bill cycle came. Like at least try 1-2 times first. That's definitely gonna have to be taken care. Other than that, staff is friendly and it is a clean facility. The locker rooms are always on point with no weird, rank odors.

I’m giving two stars only because the front desk lady is really nice. Other than that….. the equipment is packed together, outdated and you can feel the ground shaking on the second level where everything is at. So my aunt just moved to San Antonio. She had been looking for a gym and found this one. She must have gone in at the right time. She stated the General Manager took the time to explain how the gym functions, rules, regulations, and of course fees. She then found a very well mannered and patient trainer, Kristian, and he was fantastic. It is very uncommon to find personal trainers that also have a dietetic certification. What a bonus!!! She was not only given a personalized workout but advise about her diet and making healthier choices to speed up her fitness goals. Way to go Gold's Gym on having personal trainers that can also advise on diet / nutrition. She was so very pleased and excited to her next visit.

The gym itself is good, however.. terrible space utilization post COVID. Cramming all the free weights in one section does not work anymore. People are packed like sardines in only one section of the gym. Other than that everything else is fine

Wish the gym was clean. If nasty broken equipment is your style this is the spot. Highly recommend for personal injury attorney to hang out so many opportunities for clients. Place is in total disrepair. But if you like hair covered counters and sticky floors join today. Cleaning person hides out in locker room. Staff is nice but never see them in gym area.

Paid $16 for a day pass and monthly is only $30? I’m used to much higher quality gyms and they usually offer free trials. Lockers require you to bring your own lock. Equipment was fine, so many cardio machines, so few benches.

Joined here with my husband and we constantly had multiple charges on our bank account 4-8 monthly membership charges every month and it took forever to fix so when we tried to cancel they refused to let us in store so we did what you have to do call over and over and over then just report it all to your bank

Billy (GM) and Aimee were super helpful and nice. They were very accommodating and made sure we were taken care of. Gym was always clean. Like, always. Constantly having someone wipe and sanitize while I’m at the gym made me feel safe considering not everyone wears their mask when working out. In a good area. Lots of parking.

I came in as a guest. Customer service was pristine. They didn't bother me with a mandatory tour which I appreciated. They let me workout and get a feel for the gym. Plenty of equipment. Nice size aerobic room and spin room. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a home gym. They have everything you need.

My girlfriend and I attended here for a week. We got the membership that allows you to go to other locations as well. Come to find out another one not too far from here wouldn’t allow us and because we didn’t have the proper membership. It was an “additional $10/mo” to be allowed to go there. So that was a lack of communication there as to what specific gyms we could go to. This gym is extremely crowded, throughout most of the day, the sauna still doesn’t work, the layout is weird meaning it is split into so for example if you were trying to hit back day you will definitely be going back-and-forth all over the gym. My girlfriend did not feel comfortable due to the several guys that would stare at her. But that’s how Golds has always been. The most annoying part is we both paid $37 for the first month and didn’t like it after seven days and they’re telling me that they will charge us again for an entire additional month for a gym that we’re not even going to be working out at anymore.

The gym is okay, you can't really lift heavy since it is a 2 story and you will get kicked out of you dropped any weights. They have a bumper plate platform set up that you would use for deadlifts, cleans, etc anything with bumper plates but you can't really use it. I think they should donate it to a different gym where you can use the bumper plates the proper way. They only have 2 squat racks and they suck, they are very limited in equipment. I would only come here for a cardio session or to do a push or pull day that's it. Nothing heavy!! But the staff is wonderful

The only positive are the views out the windows while working out. It’s a small space for a Gold’s with less equipment than most. I’ve had several encounters with roid raged patrons who make it uncomfortable to workout here. I’m not kidding about the roids. tonight I had to have the front desk staff clean up a needle and rig set that someone dropped by the leg machines. I’ll stick to other locations and leave this one to the roid head a-holes.

I was a new member an the staff was helpful with check in and explaining their protocols for the pandemic. All of the gym patrons (that I saw) followed their sanitizing guidlines.
The machines were clean, new and smooth. The free weight area was adequate; more movable benches could be used.
All in all this gym is worth the money

Bad business practice - increased my monthly membership from my bank details without my authorisation.
Great difficulty getting past the automated phone to speak to a member of staff - when I did the staff member was unable to help with billing query.
Unacceptable billing practices - I was not notified by Gold's gym of a change to my membership, which incurred increased payments. Increased payments were automatically taken from my account without authorisation!!!

Bad experience cancelling my membership and the manager at this location was completely helpless.
I have been trying to cancel my membership through several ways. Since the Travis downtown location closed permanently and without giving me notice.
So I decided to visit this location. The manager has the worse attitude. He did not help me at all when I explained my situation. He does not care about people! I felt I wasted my time and money.

I recently visited this location to inquire about a new membership. As a disabled veteran, I inquired about reasonable accommodations for a disability. One of the managers told me that he would call me back regarding my questions, but never did. I then went to the local Life Time Fitness and they were able to give me an immediate response to my inquiry and were more than accommodating. This Gold's Gym location seemed to have little concern for me, and as a disabled veteran I would strongly discourage all veterans or those with disabilities from going to Gold's Gym - they simple showed no regard or respect for me as a potential client.

Taking advantage of customers during a pandemic is the worst kind of business practice. And the fact that I have other memberships with companies that are respectful and communicative highlights how poorly Gold’s is handling themselves. Not one email from the company since the pandemic started. They stopped billing in the beginning and then started up billing without announcing reopening. We were members years ago and came back in January on 2020 right before this started. They are forcing me to buy out my contract even though I am uncomfortable going to their facility and forcing me to come down in person to do so. I had a second gym membership in town and they handled themselves completely differently. They stated that their policy had been coming in person to cancel but respected that people had the right to cancel on the phone because of the current state of the pandemic. Shame on you Golds. You don’t have to treat people like this. You will get my cancellation fee but the cost of long-term treating your clients this way will come back to bite you.
