I moved to Dallas a little over two years ago to pursue my PhD at SMU. I have always been a bit of a “gym rat” and tried out multiple big box gyms (LifeTime, Equinox, LA Fitness) in the area. They were all a little too busy for me, and they didn’t have the group fitness classes that I really enjoy. So, I signed up for Class Pass, and tried out multiple boutique gyms in the SMU/Highland Park/Preston Hollow area that offered body sculpt type classes. Most of the gyms seemed a little “exclusive” for my taste and, quite frankly, a little cliquey. That is, until I went to Grit Fitness! I fell in love with the energy and the people. I felt instantly welcomed and connected to the women (and sometimes men!) working out around me. Everyone is welcome at Grit Fitness – whether you have been working out for years or are brand new. I always leave Grit feeling more positive than when I entered, and I am so thankful for finding the studio. I cancelled Class Pass so I could exclusively attend Grit Fitness – they have all of the classes you could want (body sculpt, pure strength, spinning, pilates, step, yoga, cardio combat, power tower). I can’t say enough great things about Grit, and I am so thankful to Brit (the owner) for creating it!! Check out Grit! You will not be disappointed!!

Omg, best gym in Dallas! I happened across Grit from ClassPass about 1.5 years ago, and have now been obsessed ever since! Not only are the instructors & classes excellent & motivating, but it's more than a gym. Grit is about camaraderie, friendship, support, & empowering other women. Brit started this concept for these reasons, and I believe those are what make this place so special AND successful. SMU location is a bit smaller than the Design District location, but more convenient and offers enough formats to keep up the variety in your workouts!

Grit is an all women, diverse, and inclusive gym! The front desk ladies always greet you and make you feel so welcome (shoutout to Molly)! Not only are the front desk ladies great, but the classes and instructors are too. I love how they offer a variety of classes from kickboxing to pilates to dance cardio classes. The instructors know you by name and encourage you throughout class. Jaleesa and Lauren are two of my favorites who always bring so much positive energy to each class!! Brit is also just the best. I don’t know how she does it but she literally knows everyone’s name and is so kind! I love her classes because she shouts affirmations to us, will make us laugh, and pushes us in each class. So thankful for this gym and the community that it brings!!

Great 1st experience at Grit! Took the Power Tower class and it was great! Elizabeth was able to modify (harder or easier) as you need it. It was the right amount of challenge and I came out pretty sore after class. It was a fun environment. They make you feel welcome. Finished up my two-weeks for $39 intro offer, after not exercising for over 8 months; here are my thoughts:

Pros:
-pretty pink girly aesthetic
-fun music and lights; it felt like a girly dance party every night!
-great staff and instructors
-Black-owned
-variety of classes that totally kicked my out-of-shape butt

Cons:
-not strictly a women-only gym (which was really disappointing to me, since I definitely feel more comfortable having a woman/femme-only space to exercise in, and the fact that it was marketed as a women’s gym is what drew me in in the first place)

-other than the super early morning classes (which I’ll totally admit I’m too lazy to get up for) the classes are held around rush hour, so it takes me over half an hour to get there. One time I had to miss out on a class because there was super heavy traffic and I got there 6 minutes late despite leaving early (there’s a very strict policy of not letting people in after the 5-minute mark). At least they didn’t charge me a no-show fee for it! I think it would be nice if their two locations weren’t so close together; that way it would be accessible to more people!

-while I did like their classes, they were all cardio and/or muscular endurance rather than muscular strength (so no heavy weights/machines). While cardio and endurance are great, I really need strength training more than anything else.

-pricey, especially if you don’t commit to longer-term plans

-no towel service

-there was one instructor at the Design District location who used a lot of vulgar language, which made me kinda uncomfortable. She also recommended buying alkaline water (for an NSFW use), which can actually be harmful.

Overall while I like this gym, I ended up deciding on a different one, mostly because of the price

GRIT is the place to go if you want to find not just a place to workout but a place to be surrounded by a strong community of women. The variety of classes — the music — the amazing instructors — they’re all reasons to come, but the reason to stay is to be able to be a part of a group that inspires you to challenge yourself. I found GRIT by chance 4 years ago and have never regretted it to the point when we were looking to buy a house, I’d map how far it was to my nearest GRIT. I’ve also enjoyed the ways the community has expanded during pandemic with more groups like book club! And excited to participate more!

I absolutely love GRIT. I've been a member in a number of formats - monthly, class packs and now virtual - and I love them all. I'm only currently a virtual member because of COVID but, before that, I went to both the Design District and SMU locations, but I'd consider SMU to be my "home" location. PROS: I love the variety of classes and how they fit into my schedule, particularly after work (this obviously isn't important now that I'm a virtual member). All of the instructors push you to do your best without being too harsh...they are incredibly motivating no matter your fitness level. I have literally never felt judged at GRIT, even when I'm doing all of the wrong moves in Step or Dance Club Cardio :) CONS: can be pricey(if signing up for the monthly pass that allows 8 classes/month, it still costs about $15/class) and has very limited changing/showering areas (both at SMU and Design District). Nearby parking can be a challenge at SMU depending on what else is going on the area, but that is infrequent.

In 2019, I joined GRIT, taking classes at the Addison location. I'd just moved to Dallas and was looking for a new fitness club/studio to call home. I went to a few other fitness places (tried Class Pass) but felt most comfortable at GRIT. Front desk staff is personable and welcoming. GRIT has fitness challenges that help me stay motivated and fun events to meet other members of the GRIT fam. Wanting to finish challenges is what made me branch out to the Design District location--I needed a class that was only offered there at the time and used to only go to Addison because it was closest to me. Now I'm closer to Design District and SMU locations. Though I still haven't been to the SMU location, doubt you can go 'wrong' at any and may end up having a sub from a location you haven't been to before--they're all great and encouraging! They shout you out, encourage you, make you feel like family. Love the instructors, the vibes, the community, the variety of classes--nothing but great things to say about GRIT!

I absolutely love GRIT!! I have been a virtual member for the past year or so because of my crazy schedule, but decided to do the December challenge in person. The moment I walked in to Grit I was immediately welcomed. From the staff to the other members, everyone was so nice and made me feel right at home. I joined GRIT last year, initially because they had good COVID restrictions in place and worked to make sure people were properly distanced and that equipment was cleaned after each use. I stayed because it’s a fun community. All the instructors and friendly and motivating, and the challenges keep me committed to my own personal fitness. I randomly found The Grit through the Mind and Body App when looking for a workout session. What I did realize at the time, I found a second family. A family committed to promoting the positive well-being of physical and mental health. Grit offers a variety of classes that focus on cardio, aerobic, weight-training, and plyometric style workouts. The staff is awesome, well-diverse, and knowledgeable in teaching basic to advance regimen workouts. These classes are design for you to WORK but also have lots of FUN in the process! Being a Grit member is literally one of the best decisions I have ever made. Grit is not only a gym it is a community/family. Grit is home away from home. All the staff members are awesome and lead by example. Grit makes exercising fun and enjoyable. I genuinely love this place!

Before I joined Grit, I was bouncing from gym to gym trying to find my fit. I have been a member at Grit for 2 years now and it was the best decision I have made since moving to Dallas in 2019. I met my best friend here and made so many more! The community gives me the motivation to want to work out everyday and the quality and variety of classes are top notch. My favourite thing about Grit is that they have so many different classes, all in the price of one studio. It is extremely hard to find spin classes, yoga, strength, barre and other classes all in one studio. Truly grateful for the strength and community Grit has brought me and I have never looked back! :)

I’ve been with GRIT for 2 years now. I cannot imagine a life without it in Dallas anymore.
It is more than just a place where you can get your workout classes in. GRIT fosters community, connections, and love. It makes you mentally stronger. The message and reason instructors voice daily in classes becomes a mantra and can bring you up no matter which life situation one faces. At GRIT you can make friends and get to know people with the same interests as yours through community groups. Over the last year I even have taken the courage to go through instructor training and am now trying to help others to self-revolutionize.

I love the music and all the positive affirmations! I'm constantly reminded during class that I'm strong and doing better than the average person just because I showed up! Also love the variety of the classes. I was getting bored at my old gym with just kickboxing.

The first gym I tried when I moved to Dallas was GRIT and I haven’t been to another since! If you want to work out with a group of women who are driven, fun and supportive come to GRIT. Classes are something I look forward to every day, and I always leave feeling empowered and better than I did when I walked in. :-)
