I was at the playground today 7/31/25 w/ my bby & witnessed a lady with highlights wearing a yellow shirt speaking to all those little kids who Iβm guessing are from childcare being screamed at by her she was talking so ugly to them & her coworkers didnβt say a thing just let it happen. I would never let my kids be apart of this placed childcare.

I usually work out at the D.R. Sommeβs location so this was a new experience for me. Friends of mine told me this a small location and the workout area was upstairs. I walked in and there were more than 4 people at the front desk. So I scanned my bar code to get into the facility. As I walked towards the stairwell a lady in a red shirt stopped me. She raised her voice as a teacher would and said can I help you. I told her with what? She repeated the question and I didnβt understand what she was referring to. She was not going to let me enter until I did what she wanted. I said Iβm here to workout. I raised my hands and said whereβs the pat down? She said I needed to scan in which I told her I had already done. I felt embarrassed because everyone at the front was watching this. I tried to stay and workout but felt very unwelcomed and uncomfortable after the experience so I left after 20 minutes. On my way out I asked for the ladyβs name, it was Yvonne. Good customer service is key for any business as demonstrated here I wonβt ever be going back to this location.

Second time I have tried to use the membership I pay for. I spoke with staff earlier today and was told that my lock would be cut off as my kids took my keys and hid them was also told that a temporary lock would be put on until I came into class this afternoon which I signed up for. Went in to make sure my lock was cut with a new lock ready and was told that it wasnβt and I canβt use my membership as protective gear for myself is in my locker and shower bag. This is the second time I have dealt with misleading and misrepresenting staff members at this location. I would not recommend trusting the staff members in the entry area. I left with my children upset and Iβll be contacting to file a formal complaint as this is the second time I have been intentionally misled. I live out of town at least 25 minutes so this drive is a lot and rarely taken. I have over $100 worth of items in that locker that Iβve not been able to access the last few times Iβve been here I will not be renewing my membership.

The place is alright their courts are not nba height there 8 feet also they need employees better cause now a days people want to force a bond and no you meet and greet people while doing your job. It's a little small for a gym but on the second floor with windows is a nice view to work out with. Good people, clean place, I got an orientation where one of the wellness coach showed me how to use a lot the weight machines. My son loves coming with me to go to the child watch and play with new friends.

The staff at the Najim YMCA are very kind and welcoming. The childcare area staff is amazing! My daughter (3 years) enjoys her visits and they do a good job keeping my baby occupied (under 1).
The workout area is on the smaller side but has everything you need. Free weights and machines.

We went for a cooking class for summer snack ideas. We heard about it from the instructor whom we take a healthy living class with at another location. When I called to get put on the list no one really knew what I was talking about but at the end it worked out. We were able to go and the class was small which was a plus for us. The YMCA has changed so much from when I was younger, they are nicer, have nice machines and better all around esthetic. If you're looking for a gym think about the Y. I know there are no pictures of the gym itself but it's really nice and you can stop by and get a tour anytime.

If you care about your children, do not take them to this location. I signed my daughter up for a day camp from 8A-4P,, I signed in and even then the sign in was weird. Iβm glad my daughter had her cell phone because she called me wanting to be picked up not too long after. She explained that one of the girls there were rude and talking smart to the kids and my daughter didnβt like that. Watching over younger kids or kids period you have to have compassion. My daughter was on the phone upset and one of the girls told her to hang up the phone and then I couldnβt get in contact with her after trying to call her. Then moments later it was the facility calling saying my daughter didnβt want to be there and she was crying. And they were dumb founded when I told them I was already on my way and my mother was the one on the phone with her and do not ever touch her phone or hang up it, thatβs not yours to touch nor your place. When I got there she was at the front table alone & crying and the girl was behind the desk on the phone, she didnβt ask who I was before taking her with me. They didnβt verify who I was, made sure I was her parent, didnβt have me sign her out or ID check me to be sure I was the person responsible to pick her up. There wasnβt a call saying anything or asking if I did pick her up. The thing is NOBODY MADE SURE she was safe. How do you run a business with kids but donβt verify the child has left with the person responsible for them. I could have been anyone walking in there and taking her. I would never take my daughter or any members of my family here. No wonder this was the only location other than another one that had openings to do something. So glad I didnβt waste anything other than 30 bucks. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNSAFE YMCA.

I attended this YMCA location for about 5 years. As single, married, pregnant and mommy. And they are absolutely the best. Dolores always so kind and helpful, the girls of child watch are like no other. My kids always had the best experience with them, no problem at all. I really enjoyed my free time here. It was always clean, and has pretty much everything for working out. I'm gonna miss you guys!

I initially, visited this gym to inspect their low impact weight machines for my herniated disk, exercise-instruction, price, policies, and extra features. The custodian greeted me; however, the front desk clerk was unfriendly, abrupt, and inhospitable. I looked around, and inquired where is the gym, and may I speak to the gym instructor.
The clerk treated me defensively, and had the audacity to ask why. I stepped side to side, then replied, I am trying to join, and would like to look around. Her disposition quickly changed, and she used the phone to contact the instructor.
They arrived, and showed me the gym, which has a lot of free weight station, circuit stations, and several low-impact weight machines. He asked my goals, and demonstrated the usage, and basic operations of the machines. All of the fees were printed on a flyer, they sanitize from 12:00 pm., to 4:00 pm. Availability is from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm., and 4:00 pm., to 8:00 pm. Areas' are well maintained, and gym is upstairs, and they have an elevator. Instructors are enthused, and prices are reasonable. They could match Planet Fitness for more clientele, and offer towels for everyone to clean machines after each use.
I am considering joining for 4-6 months, and will try to add pictures to this thread after my next visit.

This place is a joke small no swimming pool its laughable that the only ymca built in district 3 in 100 or more years has none of the amenities of any ymca on the Northside no swimming or low impact workouts in the pool for the elderly no pool no swimming instruction for children no splash pads I guess they want my grand mother to swim in the river why did they waste the money on a building with no pool sauna hot tubs very small limited weight and cardio workout areas but it has a kitchen to teach people to eat healthy and supposedly a garden to grow vegetables this place is a and joke we should be ashamed of ourselves for letting the ymca and the city council for the unabashed discrimination we receive in this district

I've been a member of the Y for 4 years now and the main reason why I signed up was for the diverse group classes that the Y offered particularly the Grit classes. Recently the Harvey Najim location discontinued the Grit classes on Tuesdays and Thursday's because of this I'm going to cancel my membership. Out of the many Y locations in the city, only 1 gym is hosting a Grit class (Tri point gym) and that's just not good enough. I think it's worth mentioning that the Harvey Najim location is not my home gym nor is it convenient for me in fact, I would drive 25 minutes south just to attend the Tuesday/Thursday grit classes. Three months ago I was in a car accident so I was busy with therapy, but now I'm healed and just recently returned only to receive the sad news that Grit would come to an end. I'm disappointed in this decision and I think it's a disservice to the southside community. Being from the southside myself I understand the lack of diversity in health gyms in the area and the health crisis this community is struggling with. Grit is challenging and innovative and the hardest workout of my life every time. Why doesn't the southside community deserve this luxury? Why do they have to travel north to more expensive gyms to get quality instructors and classes? The Grit class not only offers options to its members but it brings members from all over the city! I'm disappointed in the lack of commitment from the gym management. If attendance is low I suggest revamping your marketing strategy don't just give up on your members. We deserve better! If throwing in the towel is your solution then I expect this location to close altogether in the near future. Please bring back the grit classes. The instructors are incredible and the members deserve options!

I am homeless, I joined the ymca for showers and to get out of the heat for a bit. The staff is amazing, they don't judge you just because I go in and use the showers. I pay a very low fee a month. They are g reat at explaining things. When and if I get a home, I'm going to keep my membership

I enjoy going to the Harvey E Najim Family YMCA because it is a small neighborhood Y and the gives it an intimate feel where those who go on a regular basis meet and enjoy the human interaction as well as the workout. The staff is always smiling, polite and ready to help with whatever you may need.I have recently started to participate in the senior activities and find I quite enjoy them. It is just another way how this YMCA supports and participates in its local community.
