It has always been a well taken care of facilitie with an excellent staff. I really enjoy there dry sauna and hottub options that help in recovery. There weight room is also well setup and they have an excellent cardio section as well. Only downside is there hot tub has been out of commission for an inconvenient amount of time sometimes.

This review is based solely on the weightlifting & cardio amenities: the size of the facility is way too small to accommodate all of members that utilize the workout areas. I am able to go during the day throughout the summer months and it is so packed I find myself waiting in line for machines/equipment. I can’t imagine how packed it is in the evening times when most people are off work. The Cardio space is also extremely small and each piece of equipment is constantly being used. The stretching area fits maybe 3 mats. With that it makes it very hard to be efficient in the gym. However I do want to say that the childcare service deserves 5 stars as well as all the staff I have spoken with! Everyone is super friendly and welcoming.

The outdoor swimming pool is always working. They also take precautions so people don't overheat like closing the pool for 10 minutes so guests can hydrate or sit in the shade.

The childcare workes make my child feel safe while I am away.

We canceled our membership in-person in AUGUST 2024, and it turns out that they've been charging me ever since! Do NOT trust them. I've filed disputes for every charge since August, and they have the audacity to fight it when we canceled in person and then again by phone, and they just never stopped stealing from me. Get every communication in writing, because they'll just continue taking from you.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Been coming here for TWO YEARS, same routine, no issues. I do calf raises in the sauna no big deal, right? Staff have seen it dozens of times, never said a word. Suddenly today, I’m told I can’t stretch, or bend in the sauna. No signs. No heads-up. Just a random crackdown on something that’s never been a problem.

When I asked why, I got attitude instead of answers. Nah. I’m not paying for a place that makes up rules on the spot and treats loyal members like they’re disposable. We canceled our membership on the spot.

If you actually take your fitness seriously and expect consistency, respect, or basic communication—look somewhere else.

As an active older adult, I am enjoying my membership to the max! Though I frequent the Buda Sportsplex location, via my membership, I have worked out at the Austin Town Lake facility and intend to visit the other Buda location, which is well-known for its beautiful pool.

I particularly like the line dancing and yoga classes! However, my usual routine is 30 minutes on a recumbent bike, then on to strengthening using all-new equipment, and finally to the pool, hot tub, and dry spa!

An added unexpected benefit is meeting so many nice people, including the kind and helpful workers and other members! Finally, we can schedule group classes via the YMCA 360 app, where we can also find all kinds of online classes - exercising, dancing, pickle ball lessons, nutrition with healthy recipes, and much more!

The Dripping Springs YMCA is an incredible community-centered facility that truly feels like family. The staff is always warm, welcoming, and eager to help, making every visit a positive experience. Their childcare services are excellent, providing a safe, nurturing environment where kids can learn, play, and grow. The teachers and instructors are highly skilled and passionate, offering a variety of engaging classes that cater to all ages and fitness levels. Whether you’re there for a workout, a class, or family activities, you always feel supported and valued. Key features or amenities are often closed without notice and when items break or go down, it will be months before they are repaired. Typically complaints are not taken seriously due to it not impacting the overall business.
Showers are usually dirty with an odor however, you can get around this by not using their facilities and waiting until you get home…

The Buda YMCA welcomed me with open arms even as an out of state guest on a near daily/ weekly/ monthly basis. The front desk staff always greeted me. The janitor, Jose, forever had a smile and a caring hello.

This is not a trendy gym, or a crossfit hot spot, or even a place where people snap pictures for their instagram. And that is exactly why I love it. People are at the Buda YMCA to feel good about themselves, to find healthy in a safe and fun environment.

The only downside is the newly laid out floor plan. They’ve removed some of the best Precor ellipticals for simpler machines, and crammed them in a room with no TVs or direct daylight. For this reason, I stopped going and started running outside again.

The sauna is a small but welcoming space, full of respectful individuals. The pool is a haven for quiet laps and a dip in the hot tub. The showers are clean, warm, and well oriented so you can get in and out of the building without someone seeing your non-made up, post workout hair and grunge attire. Classes are frequent and VERY well attended, with lots of energy.

A must go for a casual, comfortable, workout to whatever level you prefer.

I cannot believe that this place doesn’t have working cameras. As a parent of a 6 year old who had a membership when my daughter was 4 I am furious. I leave my kid in the hands of a business that doesn’t have cameras. Nowadays you cannot do that. I WISH I could be as trusting but if I’m going for a workout and I need someone to watch my kid, I’ll take them to a trusted source. In this case it was the YMCA, but recently I lost my wallet and I called them to check their cameras and they tell me that they don’t have working cameras. EXCUSE ME? Forget my wallet, but why don’t they have working cameras??? For the sake of the kids, get some working cameras!!!

One word. Overcrowded. Long wait on.machines. the Y sells an unlimited number of memberships to a very limited space. With the new high school and middle school right next door it becomes excessively crowded once school lets out. The area has and continues to have explosive population growth so it seems it will only get worse until Golds or another gym opens up in the area.
On the plus side, staff, members, and kids are very polite and usually considerate.

Never ever realized how this entire place appears to be run by children or young folks that can’t deal with anything major coming their way:

if there is anything you need them to find for you—— takes 20-60 mins and they need to call 3 other people:

And no one knows where anything is:

Even if you’re a volunteer up here, it might take them ages to figure anything out for you.
Prepare to have lots of
Time to spend :

They might also let young children be utilizing all of the machines next to you when your working out.

Usually it’s run by a bunch of 18-year-olds and under.

And not very well organized:

It’s a shame because I like the location:

I will Say it’s great for summer camps that’s why we are members .

But the actual location isn’t great:
And their cleaners they use for machines are sooo chemical laced I get an instant headache walking in the building .
They have no fans? Like cooling down or blowing on the chemicals to fix this.

How could we workout inhaling that gunk?

What’s the point of cleaning with straight up chemicals ?

There are other ways to clean things:

Can you guys please get some older folks in here to handle things ???

Get them some trainings

I’ve never worked at or volunteered at a location or facility like this where young 18 and 19 year old staff members told me to “calm down” And held their hand up to my face as a means of calming someone down:

They would all do well to take some serious online training courses in how to handle somebody who is putting up a boundary to a man for safety:
How to handle traumatic situations and keep woman safe

To be very clear,

In my situation just to be really clear there was a man yelling in my face and I was telling him to “lower his voice and stop talking to me like that” the staff member actually had his back instead of mine, and literally told me to calm down, then raising a hand up to me.

I was honestly shocked.

I have never experienced a female staff member at a place actually having a males back and talking down to another woman ???

and saying the words “calm down lady” to someone who is having a grown man move away from here for safety and well being:

They really have their priorities messed up:

Very sad . Get these kids into some serious training.

Make them mandatory courses they need to take in order to work here. Thank you

🙏

It pains me to give a somewhat negative review, based selfishly on my needs. This is a great place to come - except for me. I came here 5 days a week average to do cardio beginning in July 2023. I did cardio in the center of a big open room with numerous windows and several large TVs. There was a mix of cardio and weight machines.

Then came the layout change, cardio was booted out of the big room. Half of the high-end Precor ellipticals (20 angle settings) were replaced with lower end non-electrical ellipticals (1 fixed angle). On it, I stare at a brick wall, with walls on either side of me. All of the cardio machines are in this one windowless room, and my 3 Precors are tucked away so deeply I feel like I am being punished in timeout!

If you are mostly weight lifting or doing weight machines, you probably love this new arrangement, I get that. It was probably laid out by a weight person, not a cardio person. Waaaah! Now I mostly go to Camp Moody YMCA even though it's an additional 12 minutes of driving, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking at the lush outdoors there.

Hays, I love you guys, I did 100 workouts there in 2023 even though I didn't start until July. I hope to come back.

For a non profit they are pricing their services as a for profit gym. $205/wk for weekly kids summer camp. Thanks but no thanks. This isn't Westlake Hills.

Updated review as of 2023. This is ridiculous for Black Friday they are closed and you can't even get in even though it says you're open. We're paying $90 a month and you can't even stay open between 8:00 and 5:00 the day after thanksgiving. This is ridiculous there are no other gyms in the area as need to look at what there is and is not in buda. There are going to eventually be planet fitness and gold's gym opening up down the road just give it time they will find out that they need to open up locations here.

The pool is filthy and you will get an infection swimming in it. The staff does not care about it. The area around the hot tub always smells like urine too.

We now frequent another YMCA location and have told other swimmers that we came from Hays YMCA and they all had the same things to say about the biohazard of a pool they have.

Everywhere you look in the pool there is snot floating in the bottom. The pool is also used as a toilet first thing in the morning by low-impact elderly class.

Swim here if you want to get sick.

A good Y location (many good programs) but they never answer the phone when you try to speak to a real person.

I love that the Hays YMCA has a variety of senior programs, and they accept my Silver Sneakers insurance. I especially enjoy the water aerobics after having ankle surgery & 2 knee replacements.

This is a great facility and complex -- tons of parking and room around it as well. I like the stetting also -- it's right up against the start of the hills in west Buda and doesn't feel crowded or urban. That said it's a popular place and does get very busy after work, so plan your visits accordingly.

Rick is seriously one of the worst people I have ever met. Don't want a one star review? Then treat people with dignity. It's not hard. Why even bother calling yourself a Christian?
