I've been working with Heavy Mettle on my fitness journey for a few months now and have definitely seen the changes in my day to day life. From better posture to improving my technique when I hit the gym on my own. I have been doing personal training at Heavy Mettle Fitness in Austin for the past two months and I highly recommend them! My trainer Adrien is the best trainer I have found in a decade. I am post menopausal and have a few injuries and he is the only trainer I have found who has been able to help me build strength and mobility without suffering another injury or cortisol burnout from overtraining.

He is incredibly knowledgeable and always comes to each session fully prepared. He’s patient, attentive, and really knows how to listen which makes every workout feel safe, effective, and tailored to my needs. I’ve made more progress in these past two months than I have in years, and I’m genuinely excited for every session.

The gym itself is on the smaller side, clean and cozy, has a great vibe which I love as it feels personal and never overwhelming like a larger facility can. Despite its size, it has all the equipment you’d find in a larger gym, so every session feels well-rounded.

Matt, who leads the team checks in every week on goals, nutrition so you feel really supported! I highly recommend personal training here!

I've been going to heavy Mettle fitness for about two months now and it’s been really great. I train with Garrett, and he’s been fantastic — very knowledgeable, patient, and attentive to form. I have scoliosis and really needed a personal trainer to watch my movements carefully. Although they’re not specifically certified in scoliosis, Garrett has been incredibly mindful of it and never makes me do anything that causes pain or goes past my comfort zone. He’s super friendly and flexible with scheduling.

The overall vibe at Heavy Mettle is great too — all the trainers are friendly, supportive, and make the gym feel welcoming. Highly recommend this place.

Heavy Mettle Fitness has been such a great experience! I’ve been training here for a few months and feel stronger, more energized, and supported every step of the way. Going into my 9th month at Heavy Mettle with Rebekah, who is an absolute rock star of a trainer. I have some background in strength training and worked with a personal trainer many years ago. I sought out the extra guidance again after some personal circumstances made practical strength a high priority.

Rebekah checks all the boxes of what I needed in a trainer. She is very clear when explaining new exercises, and now movements that used to intimidate me are regular parts of my routine. She is highly invested in all aspects of her clients' well-being, always receptive to concerns, easily problem solves on the fly, and constantly coaches on proper form, no matter how big or small the adjustments may be.

My trainer takes the time to understand my goals and challenges me to achieve new milestones and skills, which always inspires me to work harder even outside of our sessions. One day during a casual conversation, I mentioned that I've never performed a pull up before. She immediately adapted the rest of the session so we could start on progressions ASAP, and we've been steadily working on that side quest ever since. How cool is that??

Training here helped me overcome the mental hurdle of not wanting to work out. Now, even going to the gym on my own time feels less like a chore and more like an eagerly awaited part of my regular schedule. This has been the biggest game changer in my fitness journey — I'm not just paying for sessions, but for a lifelong change in mentality and routine. I can’t overstate how happy I have been with Heavy Mettle Fitness. It’s a no nonsense gym focused on weightlifting which I exactly what I was looking for. Steven, in particular, has been a great trainer. He understood my goals, quickly assessed where I was at, and designed a program that is working. He switches it up often to keep things interesting and fun. Most importantly, I feel stronger and look better. I’ve never enjoyed exercising and the last time I went to a gym was about 20 years ago. But after giving birth to two kids, and with my 40th birthday approaching, I realized it was finally time to get in shape. I had a BMI that looks great on paper but I had very little muscle mass, my immune system was a joke, my cardio fitness was abysmal, and I was constantly worn out. After so many years of being inactive, I was quite intimidated by the idea of going to a regular gym, and I knew I wasn’t going be able to figure out and stick to a workout regimen on my own. So I sought out a private gym where I could work with a personal trainer.

I’ve been going to Heavy Mettle for just 11 weeks. My results—in the words of my husband—have been “insane.” After less than 3 months, my body looks completely different. Instead of soft and skinny, I look toned and muscular. Family members and colleagues have noticed and remarked on my transformation. In 11-weeks, I have changed from a person who “hates working out” to loving it. My trainer Erin is amazing. During the sessions, she’s engaged, focused, and motivates and inspires me. She closely tracks all my lifts so that we can build muscle through progressive overload from session to session. As a complete beginner to weight lifting, she makes me feel totally comfortable and gives me the kind of guidance on proper form that I need. I can’t say enough about how grateful I am to have her as my trainer.

I am prone to injury so Dana is mindful of what exercises to do and what to focus on to strength the muscle and reduce injury. I am not one to enjoy redundancy but Dana worked in enough variety for me to keep me engaged and for me to enjoy new challenges. Have worked with two trainers, plus the initial meeting with Matthew to discuss goals and form a plan. They definitely educate and collaborate *with* you rather than dictating to you, which has been great.

Starting from couch potato office worker I know it will be a slog, but after just over a month, I have already noticed that I can do a lot more and I have more energy.

I have also noticed many personal trainers around town who are not in shape (you know what they say "never trust a skinny chef"). These guys are not like that at all. I'm so glad I came to Heavy Mettle Fitness! I was initially hesitant to join any person fitness journey, as I have been fairly active on my own over the last decade. However, I was struggling to make the progress I wanted no matter what I was doing. My wife convinced me to give personal training a go and I'm so glad she did. The HMF team has been very supportive and encouraging throughout my five months with them. I've made lifestyle changes with their help that have aided me in reaching my goals. Kevin is my current PT and we get along great and he's always flexible with with my schedule. He's programmed workouts I do on my own in addition to the ones I do with him during the week. We also discuss nutrition whenever I have questions. I've also had the pleasure of working with Adrien as well and the two sessions I had with him were also fantastic. Both trainers made sure to work around my lower back issue and I've definitely felt a lot less pain this past year! Matt, the lead trainer, checks on my nutrition weekly and that's great to have the accountability. He originally did a free consultation with me to discuss my goals and current level. I'll be honest, you're only going to get out as much as you give, but this team is here to support that when you're ready. I didn't want to rush progress this time, and I'm so glad I did. Other gyms that I've been to are often crowded and very open, which can be a bit discouraging. The trainers at Heavy Mettle are respectful and do their best to make you feel comfortable while you're working out.

Overall, Heavy Mettle has been one of my favorite places to train at, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to improve their fitness. Whether you are just starting out or you're looking to work towards new goals, Matt and his team are fantastic trainers that will help you every step of the way.

They can tailor your routine to your personal needs and offer a variety of exercises to learn, at-home workouts, nutritional recommendations, etc. They are also very flexible with scheduling sessions which is great if you have an unpredictable schedule at times. I met with Matt to set up a intake session and once I was on board he assigned me to work with Adrien. I've only been at Heavy Mettle for two months but it has been nothing but a positive experience. My experience with Heavy Mettle has been great. When I reached out to Matt, I had just received the green light from my doctor to get back into the gym after knee surgery. Matt and I sat down and discussed my fitness and health goals. From that conversation, Matt designed a personalized training program that had much more value than anything I could have done on my own in a gym. In addition, Matt gave me information about how to manage my exercise and diet on a daily basis. I followed his advice and my weight dropped from 259 on August 17th to 220 at the time I'm writing this (Dec. 7th). Now, after all this rapid fat weight loss, my weight is stabilizing. I was looking for a lifestyle change, but I actually ended up with a full lifestyle transformation. In addition to losing weight, I’ve also gained so much strength, a ton of confidence, a love of training and the gym, and a better understanding of and relationship with food and nutrition.

I reached out to Matt, having come off of recentish ankle and knee injuries, with the goals of losing weight/fat and gaining strength. I've been very active in fitness and health since my mid 20s. However, being 40+ now, I've realized things that used to work for me no longer do. Matt Ryan is an excellent trainer and runs an excellent gym. The atmosphere is relaxed but focused and I can honestly say every single workout I have done there I have enjoyed both from a fitness aspect as well as the camaraderie of the other trainers and other people working out there. After a few sessions it starts to feel like a community.
The gym is well equipped and has everything a person needs in order to really make some excellent strides in fitness. They are great at checking in with you to tailor the program to your desires and goals. All 3 of the main trainers are excellent but my trainer Kevin Gaylord is truly awesome. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about his subject matter and creates custom plans for me but he is also really excellent person who is always easy to chat with in between hard workout sets and every day we are laughing and talking about music and having a really good time.

I cannot recommend this gym enough. In fact my wife will be joining me soon here after she has heard me raving about it to her.

Matt is an awesome personal trainer! I had a pretty bad broken ankle which took out my stamina and strength over the course of 1 1/2 years so I was nervous to get back in the gym. Matt created a great program that not only made my ankle a priority but helped me gain my strength back and then some. I used to do long distance running but really wanted to learn weightlifting.

I found Matt on Instagram and I've been working with him for almost 4 months now (3 sessions per week). He's incredibly helpful when it comes to building a plan that works for you, focusing on the correct form of movement, teaching you how to breath through exercises, and having understanding conversations about food (even if you have a more restricted personal diet). He takes his role as a teacher and trainer seriously, but he does so in a balanced and conversational way.

I also love getting to work with Adrian, who has focused on more dynamic movements and isolated exercises, and who also showed me that I may have been doing push-ups wrong for all those years...whoops!

I get bored easily and like variety, so I'm pleased that each week it feels like I'm setting a new personal best or learning a new exercise, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

I also just enjoy the small environment. Matt and Adrian will sometimes have 1-3 clients at a time, which makes it more fun than going to a gym by yourself or being in a class with 20 people. Music's always good too.

Overall, between what I see in myself and some of the other folx there, I feel like they know how to build a plan that understands your previous experience and acknowledges your goals. It also just feels like they know how to build a realistic and sustainable plan that you can maintain week-to-week (instead of other programs I've tried where I burnout after only a few sessions).

I reached out to Matt because I had reached a plateau and wasn’t seeing progress or results from training on my own. We discussed my goals (get stronger, lean out) and my challenges (inconsistent diet, unpredictable schedule), and Matt came up with a program that addressed those things and more.
