I got a family membership for the 2024 summer activities . As soon as school started in August 2024, I call to cancel our membership since we were unable to use it. Unfortunately, I was not able to do it over the phone or through email. It had to be in person, they said. Before I made it to the facility to cancel, I received an email requesting to update my credit card they had on file since it was about to expire. I intentionally did not update it, so my membership had to end. SURPRISINGLY, I just found out, more then a year later, in September 2025, that they were still charging my EXPIRED card for all these months. Over $1,000 in a membership I had and did not know. They don't send you a monthly receipt or anything for you to know that they are charging you. I went to the facility to speak to a manager and she or he did not even get out of the office to speak to me. Only a representative at the front told me that they were not sure if I could get a refund of all the money that they charged to an expired card. Over $ 1,000 in charges! She only made me fill out a survey with the reason for cancelation. So very disappointed π.

Today, we wrapped up our 4-week-long swim lessons!
Sadly, my tye-down swimsuit wasn't cooperating but luckily I had this maternity swimsuit I bought years ago lol
For my final lesson I learned how to backstroke:VERY HARD!, float on my back and paddle my legs back and forth, opened my eyes underwater for the first time (I've had my eyes closed the entire lesson), and made it to the 5ft section of the pool for the first time since I was 18.
It was a full circle moment and kind of like a redemption swim.
When I was 18 I had to be saved by a lifeguard at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor because I panicked and nearly drowned when I slid down the ride and into 5ft deep water.
Not knowing how to swim or how deep the water was, I panicked and went under.
Since then, I only hang around waist-deep water: 4ft and below.
I can say I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to swim, and I'm sad it's over!
Looked into signing up for more lessons lol
My instructor said I improved very quickly from our 3 lessons.
I asked her if this means I can swim now and she laughed π
She said I can swim if I can swim in 10 feet deep and back. π
I gulped and got my happy butt out of the poolππΎββοΈ
Thanks to Jennifer Pewitt/Associate Vice President at YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas for such a life-changing experience for me and the boys ππΎββοΈππΎββοΈππΎββοΈππ½ππΎ
Sadly, my hair was SOAKED!!!! Hairbrella what did I do wrong with this #swimcap
Also, after four lessons we discovered there are showers right there at the pool to get the chemicals off. #betterlatethannever
Soooo great!
Also discovered that there was a swimsuit dryer in the locker room?!?
So handy!!

I recently started personal training sessions with Casey Washington and am very happy. She is very intelligent- teaching & explaining the exercises very well, why weβre doing them & the science behind it- which I love. She is conscious of the time, making the most of the hour session. Most importantly, she makes it fun with a smile on her face & I wish I could afford to have her with me at every workout. Lastly, her enthusiasm is contagious which encourages me; itβs obvious she loves her job. Thank you Casey!

Love this place. Staff, teams, activities. Wish it was more affordable as it is over $100 to play one season. Fix the parking lot. The gut instinct would be look at the people who don't know how to park... But this is a symptom of a bigger problem. Someone it would help to paint lines on dirt and only now only half are visible. This is incredibly dangerous! Fix the lot please

From the time you enter the building, all the staff are personable and welcoming. I have five grandchildren who have attended lessons since 2018. The JER Chilton Swim lessons are very well organized and always on schedule. Each instructor has been very professional with the parents in their post lesson update of our child's progress. I appreciate them spending that extra time explaining what the child is doing good, and what still needs work. During the lesson, the instructors are excellent at maintaining control of the class, which is imperative for our children's safety, yet they still create an environment of fun for the kids. The instructors are particularly patient with my special needs grandson who can be incredibly challenging even for this loving Grandma. I commend each one of them who has instructed him as they are always so kind and are able to redirect in a manner that allows him to continue with his lesson and not shut down like he frequently does in other activities. In my 6-year experience at the JER Chilton's swimming lessons, although the instructors are incredibly young, I find them to be wise beyond their years in both instruction and people skills. I commend the administration for recognizing and employing such immense talent.

I like the Christian environment (tv shows, culture of dress code, culture of language, etc). The butter pecan coffee is something I look forward to. I'm sad to lose the Racquetball court, but nobody would play with me anyway so I understand the change.Everyone is nice, friendly, happy. The child care I was sending grandson to is great and the workers are amazing. He is always excited to be there, so that speaks volumes.I never really look forward to lifting, but am always happy I go. I'm not much of a swimmer, but the pool was one of the criteria for choosing. I am unable to continue the time investment for Yoga at the moment, but enjoyed the sessions and teachers quite a bit.Thank you for having a wonderful facility available with so many great activities.

The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and patient when working with kids. My son was very afraid to go in the deep end of the pool. After registrations in a few classes sessions, he was able to navigate swimming the full length of the pool, jump in the deep without hesitation, and understands water safety. I am at peace knowing that he is comfortable navigating 10 ft of water and shallow water now.

The staff is very polite. We participate in the sports programs they offer. I am disappointed that a coach is still being allowed to coach after how he treated my child. He intentionally did not play her and during practice would use himself in the spot she was suppose to play. He yells constantly at the refs and children on the team. I just canβt believe he is still allowed to coach.

The lady at the front desk on this past Sunday was very rude and gave racist vibes β¦the guy was not too friendly either but was not as nasty as she was. Child watch has been a great resource for our family and the main reason we joined the Y. The group classes are challenging and the staff/instructors are friendly. I do wish the class descriptions online indicated "beginner friendly" or "advanced", etc.
This location can be quite busy during certain hours and sometimes I have to change my workout plan for the day due to availability of equipment but I can still get a good workout in. The cardio equipment is new and great to use.
This is a family gym in the summer time so there are LOTS of kids running around. This does not bother me, but if this would bother you, then I would not suggest this gym for you.

How have I not reviewed a place I am literally in every other day all week?!
I only do group fitness here and occasionally lap swim but also utilize childcare and my husband uses the "gen pop" area π and everything is GREAT. Equipment is in good condition, it's always superbly clean, and the classes are varied and we'll distributed along their schedule.
The group fitness instructors are phenomenal, I couldn't honestly rank them because I've taken almost every class at this point and have never had an even "meh" experience. I will shout out the ones I see most: Robin, Gracie W, Kelly, Yukari, Katie, and Monica. I love them all: so supportive, fun, and motivating.
The culture here is really friendly too, unlike other gyms I've tried over the years. People smile and chit chat. No one is so serious that you can't have a great time while working out, then again I ONLY do group fitness I can't speak for the gen pop gym culture lol. My kids always have fun at daycare (huge perk), and the pool activities for them are always great. Looking forward to continuing to enjoy this community as our kids grow and we will be using more of their services (like camps, youth sports, parents night outs, etc!)

Clown shoes of an organization. Make you pay a fee to join, then pay for the uniforms (which is understandable) but then the "coaches" don't show up to practice or the games. My daughter was supposed to be cheerleading and literally just stood in the hot sun the whole game while some parents were calling, trying to find where coaches are, and this happened at multiple games. It's just a shame and a giant waste of $300+ for no return and the kids suffer the most. Just stick to league, select or school sport and save the money.

Hey everyone! Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA location, and also delve into a bit of its history.
The J.E.R. Chilton YMCA has been serving the Rockwell community for several years, providing a space for individuals of all ages to engage in various activities and maintain a healthy lifestyle. While the facility may be small in size, it offers a range of exercise equipment that is always clean and well-kept, ensuring a safe and enjoyable workout experience.
One of the standout features of this YMCA location is its swimming program. Myron, the instructor, has been a pillar of the program for many years, ensuring that children receive the proper basic training in swimming. His dedication and passion for teaching are truly commendable, and he plays a vital role in instilling confidence and water safety skills in the young swimmers.
However, it's important to note that there are areas that could use improvement. For instance, the young swimming coach seems to lack effective communication skills and often appears more interested in being on their phone rather than actively engaging with the swimmers. This can be disheartening for both the children and their parents, as clear communication is crucial in any coaching role.
Moving on to the front desk staff, while they possess some skills and knowledge of customer service and handling, there is room for improvement. One noticeable issue is their cultural incompetence, which can make individuals from diverse backgrounds feel excluded or misunderstood. In a community as diverse as Rockwell, it's essential for the YMCA to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and understood.
Additionally, the front desk staff often seem unable to make decisions to solve customer problems, instead redirecting them to someone who may not even be present at the facility. This lack of empowerment can be frustrating for members who are seeking prompt resolutions to their concerns. Furthermore, the facility's customer service approach of avoiding issues rather than addressing them directly is unexpected from a well-known chain like YMCA.
Another aspect that needs improvement is the facility's policy transparency. When asked for a copy of their policy, the staff was unable to provide one. This lack of accessibility to policies can create confusion and uncertainty among members, who have a right to understand the guidelines and expectations of the facility they are a part of.
Despite these areas for improvement, the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA is located in a wonderful neighborhood. The Rockwell community is known for its peaceful atmosphere and educated residents, making it an ideal location for a YMCA facility. However, it is crucial for the YMCA to adapt and improve its services to meet the needs and expectations of this community.
By sharing my logical perceptions and experiences, I hope to encourage positive changes and improvements within the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA. Let's work together to create a facility that truly serves the needs of the Rockwell community, providing exceptional services and fostering an inclusive environment for all. π³ππ’ #YMCA #CommunityMatters #ImprovementNeeded #RockwellCommunity

Staff was kind of snooty - but great, clean facility otherwise.

Large and nice gym. All new equipment. Playground for your kids. Pool. Basketball court, etc.
Be sure to go before the rush hour around 5pm because they have so much equipment, that it can very crowded with teenagers.
At least when I went during the summer.
