I joined about 4 months ago, and I absolutely love it. I love the convenience of being able to schedule and view the programming on the app. The coaches model how to do the exercises prior and provide feedback during the work outs. This has definitely helped me improve my form. Highly recommend this gym!

Not all CrossFit gyms are created equal.

Over a year ago, I did my first drop-in class at KWDCF expecting to hate it. I had tried crossfit before at other gyms and always left feeling like the sport wasn't for me - it's fast, intense, intimidating, and for someone like me who didn't have much of an athletic background, I felt embarrassed for even showing up.

The difference at this gym was, and continues to be, the great coaching staff. Dan and Janelle set a great tone with their programming, and all of the coaches help newcomers learn the movements and set good expectations for themselves. As they say: CrossFit isn't for everyone, but anyone can do Crossfit.

You will work hard here - if you're like me, probably harder than you ever did before on your personal fitness - but if you focus on showing up consistently, listening to the coaches, and trusting the process, the fun takes over and you'll enjoy this great community.

Dan and Janelle run the place, and they are consummate pros. Both demonstrate a huge knowledge of Crossfit, weight training, cardiovascular exercise, recovery, and dietary needs. They've managed to make their passion their livelihood and it shows in everything that they do at King William Crossfit. Great place to get in shape and stay in shape. Thanks!

I’ve been training with Dan for about two years now, and it’s been great. He’s worked with me through injuries, targeted plans to my goals really well, and stayed flexible around my crazy schedule. I’d recommend this place, and I’d recommend Dan as a trainer, to anyone.

My husband and I are coming up on one year of membership at KWDCF and couldn’t be happier we joined. The programming strikes the perfect balance of challenging and approachable—such that we’ve been able to attend 4-5 times per week consistently.

There’s lots to appreciate about this box: Coaches lead their classes through WOD-specific warmups/drills and provide individualized feedback to every athlete; Classes begin and end on time; thoughtful programming/class size caps mean there is enough equipment for everyone…The list goes on, but ultimately it’s the culture Dan & Janelle have built at KWDCF that keeps us coming back. This is a place where everyone, regardless of age or fitness level, can feel personally supported in becoming the best version of themselves. We love this place!

Dan and Janelle are the best coaches around. My wife and I workout out 3x weekly because it is so fun and productive. Their program does the most good in a short time. Great clients and an easy location near downtown with free parking even!!!!

Worked out at this gym the last 6 months or so. As an ER resident in the military I work crazy hours and often get stuck at work taking care of patients or writing notes later than expected. It often feels like an act of God is needed to get to the gym on some days (which is why residents often gain a lot of weight in residency and really struggle with their health). The owner of KWDC turned me away from multiple workouts after I rushed over to them after work for being 2-5 minutes late. This is well within his right to do but at the same time shows this gym isn’t a good fit for someone like me who is very busy and has to work hard to squeeze a workout into their busy schedule. It’s very frustrating trying to keep up with an 80 hr work week and then get turned away from your gym (that you pay a lot of money for a membership to) for being a few minutes late (when it takes a lot of discipline and effort just to show up after a long shift). It also shows me that the priority in this gym is rules > people.

I also unfortunately never felt like I connected with the owner of the gym. His wife is delightful but isn’t there as often. Have had a lot of strength coaches in my life (played D1 college hockey) and all of them seemed to at least ask how I was doing once in a while and try to connect with me on a personal level. At KWDC I felt like I was just working out on my own and the owner was just there to send me home if I showed up late.

If you have a schedule that allows you yo build your day around CrossFit classes and you aren’t looking to connect with coaching staff but instead have a more independent experience, this gym may still be a good fit for you 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just prefer a coach that can meet me where I’m at in life and can offer a little grace when I’m struggling to get to the gym due to hospital/military obligations

Updated in response to comment from KWDC ownership:

I don’t feel that I was missing anything on the days I was a few minutes late because there wasn’t much coaching happening anyways, just writing on a whiteboard I can read 🤷🏼‍♀️ As an ER doc, I have much bigger concerns in life than being two minutes late to a gym I am spending multiple hundreds of dollars a month on. I only was able to make class twice this past month so I know I can’t have been that big of a burden on you (you make it sound like I was showing up late everyday). Also you turned me away from a 0900 class when I was literally in the parking lot at 0901. I respect myself too much to be penalized like a high school student by an adult who does nothing besides provide a gym space and write a workout on a whiteboard.

My wife and I were regular members of KWDCF before life moved us to a different state. We loved the nearly 4 years we spent at KWDCF. We found a solid gym facility, world-class programming, and a community that became like a second family. It was refreshing being around a group of such humble, hardworking people that take fitness seriously but themselves not too seriously. Dan and Janelle set the tone through their investment in others and leading by example. It is evident that every member of KWDCF, regardless of stage in life, is on the same path towards becoming a fitter version of themself. As many gyms as I have been in, I am hard pressed to find one as high caliber as KWDCF.

I have been a proud member of the KWDCF family for a few years and I will be one for as long as I am able to! The community and coaching staff are truly one in a million. The workouts are catered to our gym specifically and done so with excruciating thought by our owner/head coach/leader/friend/maintenance man/family man, Coach Dan. He and his wife Janelle have created and cultivated our community at KWDCF, and they are both huge staples in my life now. They provide all the tools to be a successful athlete and are very hands-on at the gym. They live and believe in the methodology that is CrossFit.

CrossFit is hard and tiring but that’s what makes it great. You’re not alone in your struggles or in your accomplishments. You have a whole group of like minded individuals who want to celebrate you and push you outside your comfort zones. If you are ever curious about CrossFit, come drop in and I’ll be right there cheering you on along with the rest of my KWDCF family. You’ll be proud of yourself and Dan will be too since he’s there all the time ☺️

I have been a member of King William District Crossfit for 4 months. I joined when I was in the worst physical shape in my life, approaching 290lb, and I had not seen the inside of a fitness facility on a regular basis in over 8 years.

In the 4 months since joining, I have seen drastic changes in my physical appearance (loss of just over 50lb year to date), strength, mobility, and overall wellbeing thanks to the excellent programming and the additional nutritional functional feeding program that the gym offers.

The other members of KWDCF are friendly and approachable, and so are the coaches. The coaches are members themselves, so you will see them in your workouts. They actually practice what they preach.

This is the first time I have ever been a member of a fitness program where the owners and coaches actively want you to attend instead of just pay your fees and sit at home. They make the facility very accommodating. My spouse and I have brought our kids and dogs to workouts in order to ease our schedules, and they have always been welcomed with high fives and pets, respectively.

I would like to thank my coaches and gym owner Dan for being part of my journey for the last 10 years. I've been attending KWDCF for about two years. The coaches are excellent and are keen to support all levels of fitness across class attendees. During the last two years, the coaches have taught me new movement skills and I'm certainly stronger and more fit. The community here is great - I now count many of the regular attendees and coaches at KWDCF as good friends. The facility is well maintained and conveniently located in Southtown. Can't stop coming back!

Great Box to drop into if you’re in San Antonio for a work event or a great box to start your fitness journey. Dan does a great job of programming and makes sure that his coaches are all up to par with his standards. Dan and Janelle live the CrossFit lifestyle and it’s apparent they care for all their members. The coaches and owners meet you where you’re at in your fitness journey. Go check them out and commit to a healthier lifestyle now!

I dropped in here twice and got two great workouts. Owner and members were warm and inviting. And for everyone who read the 1 star on here, I would say the warm up was a little different from other CrossFit gyms where the owner led the group as they did it. It wasn’t written on the board where everyone goes off and does their own thing. It was reminiscent of my regular Army days and I welcomed it. All of the elements of movement prep were there and I was ready to go when we started the work out. I would absolutely go back.

I dropped in here a couple of days while in town for business, I was extremely pleased with the experience. The coaching, programming, and facility/equipment were great; the other athletes were friendly and welcoming. I am a 12 year Crossfitter, and this gym is what I believe an affiliate should be. I appreciate the opportunity and would recommend them.

I've been a member of KWDCF for one year and it has been an experience that has quite literally changed my life. When I joined, I was just coming off of a failed attempt at a special operations selection. My shortcomings were largely related to my physical performance there; the advice that I was given was to join a CrossFit gym and come back when you're ready.

I was brand new to CrossFit when I joined, but Dan, Janelle and the rest of the coaching staff provided me with the tools to make large strides in strength and conditioning over a relatively short period of time. I returned to the same selection a year later and the cadre were blown away at the progress that I had made over the course of a year. After I was picked up, they told me to ignore whatever physical prep work was in the inprocessing paperwork and keep doing whatever the hell you've been doing.

What I've been doing is exactly what Dan prescribes each day with the help of the incredible coaching staff and community at the gym. The programming is unparalleled and will constantly keep you engaged and coming back for more. The workouts are released one week ahead of time and I'm always excited to see what's coming each night.

What I love most about the gym though is the incredible community that they've built here at KWDCF. Everyone is incredibly supportive and truly invested in your success. They will also push you beyond what you thought you might be capable of. I truly enjoy coming to class each day to compete alongside these great athletes.

If you're considering joining a CrossFit gym, look no further.

If you’re looking for a place to get fit and surround yourself with great people and community, check out King William District! I have been at this gym for 10 years in different phases of my life from a young adult to a mommy of one and now recently mommy of 2! I choose to stay in this gym because not only am I surrounded with great people but Dan (owner and coach) knows how to program to get his members fit and healthy. He offers different versions of the wod to accommodate his members. I also stay because he listens to members feedback and tries to change to make his classes and gym systems more efficient. If you are looking for a great and encouraging community I recommend to come check out KWDCF. You will

I continue to have an incredible experience at King William CrossFit! The coaches are truly amazing, providing expert guidance and motivating support throughout every workout. The programming is top-notch, offering a perfect blend of variety and progression. If you ever need anything modified, it can easily be done which is super helpful for someone who travels a lot and is constantly starting their 1st day back.

The community at King William CrossFit is outstanding; everyone is welcoming, friendly, and committed to helping each other succeed. The cleanliness of the facility is impressive; you can tell they take hygiene seriously, which is especially important in today's world.

And let's not forget the bathrooms! They're spotless and well-maintained, which might seem like a small detail, but it adds to the overall comfort of the gym. I can't recommend King William CrossFit enough – it's a fantastic place to achieve your fitness goals while feeling like part of a supportive family. For those who are already fit to those who are just starting, this is a gym you can trust with your fitness.

The community that makes up this gym, the coaching, programming and owners are the best you will find. The programming is well thought out and classes are run with attention to detail, as well as flexibility to adapt to your own personal goals/needs. The coach's are concerned with your overall well being, not just your performance that class. The owner's are sincere in their pursuit of improving the overall health of every member and the community as a whole. They believe wholeheartedly in what they do and its evident in the coaching and members.
Plus, the restrooms are clean 😁

In 2013, a 40-year-old woman walked into a CrossFit gym in King William in the throes of a divorce with two young kids … and, never turned back. While the gym space has gotten larger and community grown, the leaders of the ship (Dan and Janelle) are what make King William District CrossFit a place for EVERYONE. There is no ego or judgment in our gym, it's a place that takes you where you are and gets you better: step-by-step, day-by-day. To start, I needed to be able to quiet my mind and feel strong in my life while navigating a new world as a single mom. After over 10 years, that sentiment has not changed—while life continues to throw challenges my way, time spent at King William District Crossfit is just as valuable as it was then. I am a better mother, professional, girlfriend, and daughter by prioritizing my workouts at KWDCF. And, let me just say this – Dan’s programming works! If you show up and put in the work, you will see regular changes in your fitness and strength. In the end, those successes are priceless.

Easily my favorite workout experience to date (15+ years of regular, active fitness). The coaches are smart, thorough, and attentive. The programming is top-notch, with a lot of variety and intention. I’ve easily become stronger and more fit than ever while being here, without ever feeling bored or overwhelmed. The coaches are more than happy to scale workouts if something is out of my skill set, and the scaled workouts have actually helped me build those individual skills to the point where I’ve been able to do workouts that felt out of reach months earlier. The owners, Dan and Janelle, are simply two wonderful people who make everyone feel welcome. I was a CrossFit skeptic before joining - now, I don’t think I’d ever do anything different. Immensely grateful for this box and the community behind it, both have changed my life for the better.

Due to my own personal privacy concerns I will refrain from telling the true, frightening and extremely concerning reason why I left this gym. I’ll stick with the CrossFit and business facts:

I immediately canceled my membership here as I no longer felt safe or comfortable. The owner refused to prorate what was left AND disabled my online access to the workouts for the rest of the month. This is literally a form of stealing, to take funds and not provide a service. I’ve attached the photos where the owner Dan states our membership will be active until April 16th yet was cancelled before that.

The warm ups here are virtually non existent. They will go over what the movement is and do some light stretching majority of the time. We’ve gone to a few CrossFit gyms, including another city due to traveling, and the warmup here is sub-par. With CrossFit you need to be very careful both before and after any workouts not to injure yourself due to the high intensity and strain you will put on your body. There are no cool down workouts or stretching at this gym.

For any women (and men) looking to join a gym in the future, I would highly encourage you to take a look and ask for the instructor list ahead of signing up. Ask any and all questions you need. These are the people you will be surrounding yourself with.

*** responding to owners statement, when the email from my husband was made in December, the instructor we have had a serious issue with was not coaching. This is an untrue statement. We also should not have to ask to have our 16 days of access to workouts. If it was paid for, we deserve the right to access them. Beware of those you surround yourself with.

Great location. Great coaches. Great Community.

King William District Cross Fit is EVERYTHING you need in a Cross Fit box. Plenty of room. ALL the necessary equipment. (In great condition too!) Terrific members who understand what the Cross Fit community is all about. Great coaches with great skills and who know what their role is. And a great location within walking distance of practically any of the downtown hotels. ( It was a 15 minute walk from the Grand Hyatt for me)

Located at the north end of what is now the growing and trendy South San Antonio, the corner location is all glass on two sides - looking out onto the busy street outside - which I thought gave the workout space a cool vibe.

Go there. You will love it! ( You can look them up on your Wodify app too!)
