The hot tub smells bad and dirt & scum are visible on the bottom.
The pool shower only sprays hot water, xtra hot, unusable.
The pool is just Gross!.
There are extremely few leg machines. Why? No clue.
They literally robbed me. We paid for a personal trainer through LA fitness. The trainer quit, it’s been 3 weeks and I have been up 4 times trying to get a new one. They have my money, but refuse to act, to get me a new trainer. They won’t even return my calls. They literally stole from me. This is payment in addition to my membership.
As far as “service” goes, it’s a joke.
The gym itself has more than a few broken machines and it’s not exactly a clean place.
There are quite a few new gyms that have opened up in the area that are much better.
I think they are going out of business, as I have seen fewer and fewer people there (and one of the employees said so)
Don’t waste your money.
Did I mentioned they refuse to provide services I already paid for, or provide a refund for the trainer they won’t give me?

By far the worst LA Fitness in the Houston area.
The bathrooms and showers are consistently dirty. I understand this is an older facility, but that’s no excuse. Staff members—except for the ladies at the juice bar—are incredibly rude and dismissive.

I wish this wasn’t the closest location to me, because it’s frustrating knowing there are other LA Fitness gyms nearby that are much better maintained and staffed. That said, you can still get a decent workout here. It just sucks knowing there are better options under the same brand so close by.

Having a gym on the second floor of a building with no direct access from the ground level is stupid. There is no signage that says, "LA Fitness here," other than the LA Fitness logo on a ramp up to the parking area. If you're on a bike, you'd die just riding up that incline. You won't find any directions in the parking garage either. Stupid, stupid, stupid design.

I read a lot of reviews before visiting and they were mixed at best.

For me I found the place pretty nice. All the machines and free weights you need to get a good workout.

Yes some of the dumbbells were out of place but not a big deal.

Very disappointed in this facility! The gym I had gone to for 5+ years closed the location nearest to me so I had to find a new place. The building is large but the use of the space is poor. The pool and aerobics areas are used quite a bit but there is also a large room for spinning classes (always empty with lights out) and a room that I think is for volleyball. There aren’t nearly enough machines and what they have are way too close together. Only 5 machines for Abs and one has been “scheduled for service” for almost a month. Easily a third of the aerobics equipment is either broken down or janky (treadmill belts slipping, bikes that won’t let you select a program, elliptical pieces lay beside the machines, etc). I have never seen anyone clean anything other than the carpet!
Looks great from the outside but certainly not worth the high cost of membership. Time to find a new gym!

We wanted to change the membership here, we wanted my husband to be there as Guess, they never helped. They said we can only add them as memberships, which seemed ridiculous and they wanted an extra fee. The treadmill was sticky today. Despite the prices, there is a lack of personnel and it is not hygienic at all, it smells disgusting inside. No matter how much I want to go to the gym and swim in the pool, there is no information sheet about when the pool is cleaned. I couldn't see it.

I was very disappointed with my experience at this gym. The space is small and overcrowded, with outdated machines and poor hygiene standards. There were no sanitizers or paper towels available to clean the equipment, which is unacceptable. On top of that, the customer service was unhelpful. One of the staff members tried to sell me the most expensive membership plan, not realizing I had already checked the website and seen lower prices listed. This kind of misleading approach is not the right way to attract new customers. Definitely not what I expected.

Beware the whirlpool. It is so dirty and foamy that you can’t see the bottom and it smells like well used work out clothing. It stinks. It seems that it is only “cleaned” once a week and all they do at that time is backwash the filter and balance the chemicals. No one cleans the sides of the whirlpool nor bottom of it. It has more foam than a keg of beer. I think the water off of Galveston is clearer.
You would think that when ever the restroom smells like piss that they would send someone to clean it. But no.
No one cares.

Several cardio machines are not 100% working. My husband had a heart rate of "230" while walking on the treadmill and some treadmills don't register a heart rate. Suggest staff make more of an effort to clean/wipe down the machines. However, the staff is always nice, the gym is in a decent location, and the sauna is a plus.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. This gym is beyond disgusting—equipment covered in sweat, floors sticky. It’s clear that cleanliness is not a priority here.
On top of that, everything is disorganized. Weights are never in the right place, machines are either broken or in terrible condition, and good luck finding staff when you need help. It’s an absolute mess, both literally and in terms of management.
Save your money and go somewhere that actually cares about hygiene and maintenance.

Update 3/7/25.

Back to an inefficient group running this location. Customer Service is horrible. We pay our dues but are told a/c in fitness class upstairs will be hot for a long time. This is worst answer possible with lack of concern for important issues. Need to go to air conditioned classes somewhere else. So disappointed they do not care about a functioning gym. BAD deal again even though 4 months ago it was under lots better management. Why can't they be helpful and consistent, and have a functioning a/c????? Bad environment for sure.

This gym continues to let its customers down. On Sundays, after their Saturday night partying, no one unlocks the club doors so club is not opened at regular times. People wait outside hoping someone will come and open the club. No notice or posting online of late opening. It happens too much and disappoints members. Why can't one stable person show up to open the doors? Any other business would fire the irresponsible employee for not opening at regular times. Shows a total disregard for the club members.

Group fitness classes have too many "no show instructors" and no sub is provided. Such a let down due to poor management of these classes. Many upset class members due to this occuring a lot.

Live up to what your customers need, L.A. Fitness! Remember you are a service-oriented business and do your job!

I am writing this review to express my dissatisfaction with my recent experience at your Houston, TX location at 9603 Westheimer Rd.

As a paying member of LA Fitness, I expect to have access to the equipment and facilities provided at all locations. However, I was informed by the staff at this location that the smaller weight dumbbells (2.5 to 10 pounds) are locked away and designated solely for the Silver Sneakers class. As someone who incorporates these weights into my workouts, I find it frustrating and unreasonable that I am denied access to equipment I am entitled to use as part of my membership. Furthermore, the lack of 10-pound dumbbells in the general weight area exacerbates the issue.

When I raised this concern with the manager, Hector, I found his behavior unprofessional. He repeatedly spoke over me and did not allow me to fully explain my concerns, which left me feeling dismissed and disrespected.

I have chosen LA Fitness for its reputed facilities and flexibility, as I travel frequently for work. Experiences like this make me question the value of my membership.

I've been using LA Fitness, Tanglewilde for about 2 years. I feel very at home here. My exercise of choice is the pool. But honestly, Victor, is a strong motivating source that gave me the courage to branch out to free weights. To say that Victor is a special "force" would be an understatement. One day I asked Victor if I could ask him a few fitness questions. He was so inspiring, genuinely concerned and gave me a few lasting pointers that have served me well. Though I believe Victor actually works in memberships, he is so kind and down to earth that he will make time for existing members. I give Victor 5 stars for encouraging me that day. I know that the rest is up to me but it's nice to know that I have such a knowledgeable asset in my corner at LA Fitness. Thank you, Victor!

The area manager that comes to help here is the worst. I don't remember her name..shes a blondie.. i was informed i would only be charge $35 for my membership ..and they went ahead and charged $73 without my consent. Couldn't even figure out where additional charges came from. When I explain to her that doing that made my account overdraft she didnt care. I kept asking her to reverse the whole $73 so i could pay cash ..and instead she only refunded partial and my bank did not waive overdraft fees. She is the worst. She also put me automatic payments without my consent.

They make up some more restricted policies than other la fitness locations and it causes significant inconveniences for customers. For example they should post what time they actually closed because it's actually an entire hour before the listed time. This causes major inconveniences with multiple customers I've seen this first hand, secondly they close the entire pool and spa area during a class which sometimes occurs twice a day so if you have a limited time to go to the gym you won't be able to attend the spa for an entire hour. They feel it's easy to wait but that's not easy for everyone to do some people have specific time frames that they can work out and if I can't use the spa from 9 to 10:00 it's a huge inconvenience. And it's not posted anywhere except for the spire is so no one else would know. All of these inconveniences which result in bad service or no service being available do people who need to use them at the right time. this could all be avoided if they had some sort of notification system on their app. But as things are the way they are now you will be greatly inconvenienced randomly to your experience. So don't let it catch you off guard when you are not able to get access to the gym inside of gym hours or when you cannot access a specific feature of the gym when you arrive if it just so happens to be a time where you need to use the service.

They dishonest. I paid for personal trainer, and signed up while they read what I was signing without them showing me what I was really signing. I was burned.

I was told $240 x 2 for 6 sessions.
What I really signed was $240 x 6.
One 20 minute sessions per week for 6 weeks. BUYERS BEWARE

I refuse to pay for the remaining 3 payments and joined Planet Fitness because of this. I've been receiving nasty phone calls with nasty unprofessional voice mails from these employees with LA Fitness.

Don't sign anything unless they physically show you what your signing, again I was burned. Even thier website clearly shows $240.00 per month for personal trainer 20 minute sessions.

I had a total of six (6) 20 minute sessions and I'm being charged $1,440.00 or greater. Thieves!

Visiting relatives and needed a place to workout. It’s a gym that will get the job done if needed but don’t expect all the bells and whistles. I’m not an actual gym-goer at this location but had to come in because my account never closed when I told my actual LA Fitness (med center) to do it and was not able to do so at that location because it became permanently closed.

However, I spoke to Jonathan, the manager at this location and he was extremely helpful. He helped me with my situation amazingly and got my mistaken monthly payment refunded. He seems like a real and honest guy from my encounter with him. Have not seen a level of transparency and simplicity with LA management yet until I met this guy. (Some LA management is super pushy asking why you want to leave, consider a new club etc)

This gym is a hot mess! Machines look like they're from the stone age, the stair masters are always on vacation for maintenance, and the floors smell like they've never seen a mop. It's crowded and feels like a sauna. Plus, I wanted a quick 3-day voucher, but they kept bugging me for surprise annual fees.

To top it off, they turned my phone into a hotline for annoying calls that hang up right away. It's like they're trying to drive me crazy! Talked to the manager, but the calls just wouldn't stop.

I've had enough. I'm canceling my voucher and I'm not coming back. This place ruined my workouts and wasted my time. I wouldn't recommend this gym to my worst enemy!

I wanted 2 months membership only, paid for the 2 months and some other fees, but after two weeks my phone couldn’t stop ringing!! They were trying to charge me extra for annual fees!! Talked to the manager and he said I should not pay annual fees because it’s just two months, but yet my phone didn’t stop ringing and every time I go to the gym they give me hard time at reception asking me to pay the annual fees!! And they waste my time and energy while explaining the issue hundreds of time and when I feel frustrated and ask them to talk to the manager who did the membership for me they give me attitude and they refuse to communicate with him! I cancelled my membership though I just paid for the second month and it didn’t start yet, because every time I visit the gym they ruin my mood, they ruin my workout, waste my time and embarrass me in-front of other members.

Updating my review below. The management really stepped up and cleaned up the facility so I changed to 4 stars. No more broken machines. They seem to fix them right away. Also environmental temperature much better.

At least 18 machines broken down at all times sometimes only giving you one machine for a muscle group so everyone is trying to use it. It shouldn't take months to years to repair a machine 🤨. Also, poor air circulation especially on second floor. In the heat of the day it feels like working out in an attic 🥵

This gym has thieves who break into cars and then their cameras don’t even work once you file a police report. It seems like the people at the front desk don’t even care about your car if someone breaks into it they act like it’s normal and the manager omg he is absolutely the worst (the black manager just so they know which manager nothing racial) he is very rude . The area there is full of thieves it’s not safe and they don’t have a security guard. So if you go in and come out like I did you will end up paying $300 to fix your car window because someone removes the vent window with a crowbar messing up the metal and breaking the glass. They even took the glass with them after they tried to steal my 2023 Chrysler Pacifica touring mini van at 9 AM in the morning in daylight and the sun was out, it was underneath a camera right in the front row of the gym parking lot and that camera did not work when the police came and went inside to speak with the manager.

And then they act like it’s nothing. I don’t recommend this place. They even peep in your car you will see their fingerprints trying to see if there’s anything they can steal. I was sitting in my car and I saw a group of very short Hispanic young men one evening who comes to the gym and they look like they were casing the parking lot before they went in to see cars that might attract their interest. They need a security guard and they have a seal team that comes sit in his car by McDonald’s for 15 minutes and then leaves not safe here not at all. I went to other La Fitness and they have no security and they also have broken glass from car windows in their parking lots and they don’t even go out and sweep it up. They have same problem in their reviews so La Fitness doesn’t care if your property is safe in their parking lot. I will be canceling my membership with them.

The location is centered in a plaza that had a lot of space and parking, which is a pro. The machines appear to be dirty of sort and have cosmetics needs that require maintenance work, but it is a busy gym. I like the retention of cardio workouts located upstairs with studio glasses. My gym is big, clean, and cooler inside, but the studio is located downstairs; we get some stares when we go in and out of the room.
I wouldn't mind coming here again.

I’ve been coming to this location for years and it’s just gotten worse, stairmasters are always busted treadmills and cylcling machines always busted *as well as the location on bissonet and hwy6* the timer for the men’s sauna barely works since they “fixed” it. Now I gotta turn it with a pair of pliers to get it to heat up. All this wonky equipment but y’all real quick to come for that money every month tho 😒

I have membership here ONLY because its close to my job & i like to exercise during my lunch hour. but heres what i think about it- Over priced & Machines always broken. I have a membership at fitness connection which charges less, they have more machines & even if there are a few broken its not a problem they got 5 more of that same machine so its all good. LA has lots of ellipticals & treadmills same as any other gyms but diff is only about 25% of them really work at LA fitnessm The others are there just for show. For the appearance of making it seem they have a huge cardio area. Rounding up id say they have about 30 treadmills but only 7 really work correctly. They have 30 ellipticals and mayb only 9 of them work. Unless u really need a membershp at this location like myself i would suggest save ur money and go a few more miles for a better gym.

Basketball court chained closed. No rim. Dumbbells all jumbled up. Nothing put in its proper place. Staff lazy as hell. Worst LA Fitness I've ever been to. Visiting from FL. My gym doesnt look like that at all (esporta). Wont be back.

My girlfriend has me in her membership she pays like half $ more money just for me to go with her , we have been coming to this gym for over a year now . Today she was running late from work I was waiting outside for her but I needed to use the restroom 🚻 badly so I came in and this person at the desk didn't let me go in to use the restroom because my gf wasn't there at the moment I explained to him the situation and still got a sorry for about answer, thank God there is a McDonald's near it . Not good 😐 we are now heading to memorial park not feeling in the mood for the gym anymore. Thank u

Too busy over crowed. On the bright side, it’s not stinky and hot like the Greenway location. But I do find it weird that they put chains on the basketball court doors. Why do they allow people to play volleyball but no one is allowed to play basketball 🏀
