Absolutely Disgusting and Unhygienic – LA Fitness Irving (5550)

I’m furious after what I saw today. This place is absolutely disgusting. There are people jumping into the pool who clearly haven’t showered in weeks — you can literally see the dirt and smell it! They bring all kinds of bacteria and germs into the water, spreading skin infections and who knows what else.

What’s worse, the management at LA Fitness Irving (location 5550) doesn’t care at all. They completely ignore hygiene rules and do nothing to enforce any kind of cleanliness standards. It’s outrageous and shameful.
This needs immediate and serious attention: install cameras to catch people who violate basic hygiene rules, and revoke the memberships of repeat offenders so they cannot come back and contaminate the facility. Management must clean the pool properly and enforce order — now.

I’m giving one star for my experience at LA Fitness. The front staff, Maria, was very rude and unprofessional. She did not allow me to upgrade my location and spoke in an impolite manner. Very disappointing experience and not the kind of service I expected from LA Fitness.

A lady found someone watching her from the showers and realized it was a man. She was about to take a shower. When we went to tell the staff, one of them did nothing and instead pretended to work the Smoothies bar, and the other staff member at the front desk went to the women’s bathroom. When they opened the curtain, they saw that it really was a man. That curtain had a hole where he had been looking through. Unfortunately, they didn’t do anything and let the man go. When the police arrived, they asked why they had let him go, and they said he ran away. One of the staff members was saying someone else should catch him as the man was WALKING out of the gym when that was his job.
I’m leaving this review because I was disappointed by their response and by seeing that they don’t seem to care or have done anything about it. They’re just pretending nothing happened.

9/2025 name calling, constant insults multiple gyms. Reported but club manager at Las Colinas gym also used similar insults during report. Cancelled. Then decided to keep active. Was promised the instructors would be talked to. Happened again today. Was told don't report because they cannot manage the problem or instructors. (?!?!). An instructor could literally come in a class with a gun and harm a student and the business would do nothing. The gym is a resource for indoor workout but I do not recommend it as it isn't managed and so many unsafe practices while a member. Emotional health as well with constant defamation allowed. I mean, why not fire these instructors?
*3/14 same as usual even after freezing membership, defamation. Using up a day of gym until freeze. Rude instructor and staff members with offensive comments. I want to be a member but the services are not able to be accessed without defamation and killing morale. It is a very unhealthy experience to workout here in many ways. Pink, Brinkleys threatened more if don't relinquish the membership entirely. Suspect drug mandates. But truly it's not a good business. I am sure some people can actually go to the gym without this experience. 3 gyms all the same offensive trashy talk.
*update 9/23 Big concern by staff of pool or areas in the gym. This week, the cycle room has smelled awful. The pool today had 2 kids jumping into the pool, diving off the edges, summersault diving off the edge, swimming under all 3 lanes instead of correctly, horseplay, and wearing outside clothes in the pool. This gym does not meet any kind of expectation. Evaluating across all gyms, this is the worst.

Management has addressed recent concerns about the pools being clean. The pools at 2 gym locations have been considerably cleaner swimming the past couple of days. I am not sure if the instructors have been addressed as well with offensive speech as part of instruction during classes.

You get (almost) what you pay for with this location. Most positive aspect is that there’s a pretty wide variety of equipment available. The cleanliness of that equipment is questionable though - only one sanitizer wipe dispenser was available / filled, and almost no one wiped down their equipment. The benches were also old and unstable, so I didn’t use any heavy weights on those exercises.

Positives: Lots of equipment and decent hours. Negatives: most of the equipment is outdated and worn, the smell, the crowds. I appreciate the attempts to update the offerings, such as adding a functional workout area, but the cardio equipment in particular is worn and rusting out. Maybe it's time to throw some dollars at newer cardio equipment, particularly those now ancient Life Fitness ellipticals. I don't know what can be done about the smell, but this gym always has a musty smell in the air. I wasn’t allowed in by the so called store manager, Chris, unless I signed some document prior to reviewing it. He wouldn’t explain the reason, only that it was policy. Who in their right mind would sign something without reviewing it? He was unprofessional and without communication skills! It's too annoying to hear the trainer's laughter during all my workout. I wear my headphones during my entire workout to get focus, but even with them, I can hear him laughing from across the gym. Worst LA Fitness I've ever been too. Whole gym smells like BO. TINY sauna that's so packed everytime like a sausage factory. Too many people in the gym at once there is never a free device available. People here don't understand gym etiquette, maybe just the many different cultures. They like to hog a machine for 30 minutes and do aerobics in between each set for like 5 minutes. Extremely Unprofessional and Hostile Staff at Las Colinas Location

I had a deeply disturbing experience at the LA Fitness in Las Colinas. As a long-time member, I visited this location for the first time with my wife as a guest—something I regularly do at other locations without issue. However, the staff member at the front desk, William Davis, who is unfortunately the Assistant General Manager, began shouting at me for not having a guest account set up in advance. When I calmly said I’d sign up, he continued yelling, saying “This is my gym and I make the rules.”

He escalated the situation by threatening me, saying “You don’t know who I am” multiple times, and called 911 to have me removed—even though I have a valid membership and had done nothing wrong. While waiting for the police, he continued approaching and trying to intimidate me.

This was an incredibly humiliating and frightening experience. I’ve never been treated with such hostility at any other LA Fitness location. It’s unacceptable for someone in a management role to behave like this. Management needs to be held accountable—avoid this location if you expect professionalism or basic respect.

I’m deeply disappointed by the repeated unprofessional and aggressive behavior from the front desk staff at LA Fitness, 5550 N MacArthur Blvd, Irving, TX 75038 and staff member name is William Davis - On multiple occasions, both I and several of my friends—specifically those of Indian origin—have been spoken to in a hostile and disrespectful manner. Good spacious gym. Major complaint today was all the shower curtains in the men's locker room have mold on them and so does the ceiling. I'm attaching pictures from earlier today. Also the cleaning guy sprayed the shower area with alot of clorox to give the false illusion that he cleaned. Did not scrub off the showers, just a very strong smell of clorox which was burning my eyes while in the shower.

This is a fairly good gym with lots of equipment. It does get very crowded most evenings but the biggest problem I have with it is; when the pool or the Jacuzzi are broken or not working properly they don’t tell anyone or put a sign up at the front. This happens quite often, at least five times over the last six months and twice in one week. Even after I canceled my membership, they said I could still come until the end of the month which I did not want because I asked for a refund. So a couple of days later I decided to go up there and I called First and asked them to check the jaccuzi and sure enough she said it was warm only. In addition to putting a sign up at the front, they could send a mass email like they did when they were closed during the freeze. This is 2025 and it’s not that complicated.

If I could give zero stars I would. I’ll start with the weights. They’re scattered all over the gym because no one bothers to put them back on the rack so good luck finding what you need. Equipment for some of the machines is also everywhere. When I spoke to one of the employees about it, all they said was good luck finding it, it’s out in the gym somewhere. I now feel like am at my last resort here to resolve my ongoing issue now with LA fitness for well over a month. Any who, LA fitness stole over $700 dollars from me and have been more than difficult to work with concerning the issue. LA fitness fraudulently signed my member account up for a special training package that was never once approved by myself. After being charged multiple times for this “training” package, I had notified LA fitness staff that this was not signed up for by myself and that I would like a refund for the previous charges. When asking for a refund from LA Fitness (the company that charged me) they apologized and said they’ve recently outsourced their training and that I had to work with the other company and not them… this is pitiful and honestly a disgrace that LA fitness is not willing to own up to their mistake… let’s see how long I stay a member…

I had a terrible expetience with front desk person Sherre today and she was most unhelpful. I have been member of LA Fitness for more than 10+ years and using Las Colinas location for years. I have seen the facilities turn for worst over years but front desk was always polite and helpful. I have a membership with one guest and have used it numerous times earlier. Today Sherre decided I cannot use my membership and walk in with the guest because of LA Fitness system issue even after she confirmed my account has guest privileges. It might be time to look at new Lifetime Fitness in the neighborhood.

Rude staff charged me for a towel service that this location dose not provide after they sold me on it. Money was never refunded dirty facility... I cancled my membership 6 months ago and was still getting charged after paying two months upfront and a inattention charge that was super insulting. Go there if you like being frustrated with the staff and billing department. I will literally never come back to this establishment nor ever give them my money or a way for them to steal from me ever again. I hope you all are proud of yourself as a company you did this to someone recovering from vertebrae replacement 😃

Large location. I’m only rating for the pool and locker room. Pool was clean, good for lapping. The deep end was deeper than other LA fitness pools I’ve utilised…think this one was almost 5ft on the deep end. The showers were dismal. Drain pipes open and hoses left in cubicle. I was visiting from out of town and on the two occasions I visited they were still there and not moved. Can someone clean up please because this is dismal.

I visited this location interested in joining for the first time LAF. I was disappointed by the treatment of the sales representative. Never asked for my name, didn’t have the courtesy to show me the facilities, looked more to the screen than me when talking, when realized I was not interested stopped answering questions. Never asked for my personal info for follow up (guess the form they give you as you walk in has no point, and I was smart enough not to put my info down). Guess I’ll look for another place where they treat you with respect and are interested in doing business with you, I’m guessing the sales people don’t have monthly goals or this person is on its way out

I had a much better experience with Planet Fitness than LA Fitness. At Planet Fitness, the salesperson was honest and transparent, delivering exactly what was promised during our discussion. Unlike LA Fitness, where I encountered misleading sales tactics regarding fees, Planet Fitness followed through with everything as discussed. Additionally, Planet Fitness is much cleaner, offering a more comfortable environment. Highly recommend Planet Fitness over LA Fitness!

I had a very frustrating experience with the management of my membership at LA FITNESS with jay or jaycol it’s her name. I canceled my membership in person with one of the employees, but to my surprise, a month later, I was charged again. Even worse, the charge was repeated the following month, despite having already canceled my membership.

After the first charge, I contacted my bank to report that I had not authorized the payment. When I received the charge again the following month, I tried to contact the gym. The manager was not available at that time, but after several attempts, I finally managed to speak with her.

I explained the situation and told her that I had canceled my membership two months earlier. She asked for the exact date of the cancellation, but I couldn’t remember it precisely because they didn’t give me any paper or recipe. I explained that I had canceled it with one of the employees in a small office, and they assured me that I wouldn’t be charged again. Despite this, the manager was neither respectful nor willing to help me, insisting that without the exact date, there was nothing she could do for me.
a simple situation like this turned into such a complicated issue and that the staff wasn’t willing to provide a proper solution.

Terrible workout experience all around. You can't go anywhere without terrible BO being present. Equipment is broken more often than not due to lack of understanding on how to properly use it. Free weights are NEVER returned to the proper spot (if ever returned to a spot at all).

I’ve been a member of LA Fitness for 2+ years and always checked in using the QR code from their app. Today when I

did the same thing, the guy very rudely stopped me and said, “hold on wait, what was that on your phone, are you trying to scan a screenshot.” Barelly keeping my cool, I said no. He told me to do it again so I scanned the very same code again and this time it was good. While I understand that technology is tricky and glitchy sometimes and I should be giving the benefit of the doubt, I do not want to feel this hostility and maybe a little profiling at an establishment I’ve been a member for more than 2 years. If he would’ve just asked me to scan it again politely, I wouldn’t even have cared or remembered that.

I love Irina's classes at this gym. She teaches Body Works Plus Abs, Power Circuit and Zumba. Irina has several levels for each exercise so everyone can do the exercise working at their own level. Today I decided to try a new LA fitness omw to work this morning. Found this location on google without reading the reviews (bad mistake). Pulled up around 5:20 AM, and the parking lot is creepy at best. Did not see cameras anywhere so that's not good in case of car thefts. Noticed broken glass on the ground so that's a great sign!

Walked in to the gym and the front desk girl was on her phone so no good morning or greeting which is whatever to me since im not a karen, but I guess I understand wanting to have something breathing at the desk. Looking around on the way to locker rooms to see what kind of equipment they got going on so far so good. Lockerooms were straight trash. Napkins everywhere, showers were disgusting, smelled like pee/must, lockeroom doors broken at the hinges like scummy people breaking them to steal so that's nice.

Gym equipment EVERYWHERE. Dumbells scattered, plates thrown about, and gym equipment rusted. I don't get it tbh... How hard is it go keep a gym clean, and maintained. A gym should be a safe, and somewhat clean environment for people to got too.. People spend their money here, and spend their time here as an essential part of their day. You shouldn't have to scavenge to find plates or worry about your stuff getting stolen. Or risking getting tetanus, and mold on you. Corporate c'mon man DO SOMETHING.

Guess it’s the LA fitness signature club 10 min away for me.

The morning receptionist on 5.20 could at least look up and say good morning, welcome or even eye contact. I’ve walked passed her numerous mornings and she’s just a warm body sitting there either reading her book or on her phone. They use to have nice morning people who made you feel welcomed.

I joined this gym strictly to have access to the sauna. I have never been to a gym where people literally speak over the phone for +20 minutes out loud in the tiny room when there’s 4 other people inside like this one. This has happened every time I use the sauna so 6/6 times in the past month that I’ve been here which I find to be unreasonable. I believe sauna etiquette rules should be applied in this gym and posted in the sauna room so people are aware.

I hate to leave a negative review as not everything at this gym is bad. The front desk staff is courteous, and the trainers are helpful.

However, I often find the cleanliness of the gym lacking during my visits. Additionally, it's frustrating that the men's locker room consistently runs out of paper towels. This has been an issue for the past 4 or 5 months. I keep mentioning it, but nothing has charged.

UPDATE: LA Fitness refunded me the $2600. So I am updating my review to reflect my experience with my personal trainer Liam. I hired a personal trainer to help me rebound from my torn ACL. Liam worked with my injury while increasing my lower body strength, I was able to play basketball again thanks to Liam's experience.

OLD REVIEW: Buyer be aware- personal training contracts go month to month after the initial term is over. LA fitness kept charging me $520 for 5 months after my term was over. They are refusing to refund me this money and are referencing contract language. Even though their front desk staff told me that i did not need to provide notification. I guess you cannot trust their employees to give you accurate information. Instead as they have told me, it is my responsibility to read the contract.

My last personal training session was 5 months ago! LA Fitness gets their revenue by taking advantage of their members, hoping they don’t read the contract.
