Been a member for almost a month now, and the downside of this gym is the music , it’s pretty much little to no music and IF there is be prepared to hang out to Mariah Carey and Ariana grande. , this is the first gym I’ve been to where It doesn’t feel like a gym . Make sure to take your headphones, if you don’t, be prepared to hear everyones conversations and grunting .****update *** I’m 3 months in and I am considering canceling my membership, they do not open at 5 AM as advertised, they have unreliable workers that show up 30 minutes late . The pros:

Large variety of equipment with a recent remodel and updates. Rarely have to wait for what you want, and when you do it's not a line forming like I've experienced at other gyms.

Great atmosphere with a huge diversity in membership, people of all genders, ages, and fitness levels, from beginners to experienced gym goers. Never had anyone be rude, condescending, overly "helpful", creepy or intrusive. Just an overall safe, respectful vibe which is rare to find. Also there's no "women's area" which just breeds segregation and sexism in gyms.

There's no teens and 'influencers" setting up tripods and taking up half the floor. I don't care if people record themselves, but it usually ends up being disrespectful of other's space. That doesn't happen here.

Now, the cons. Or rather the one con which is almost a deal breaker.

This gym is SERIOUSLY lacking in cleanliness.

I don't expect spotless. The locker rooms are small and it's a busy gym. But the paper towel dispenser in the lady's main area locker room has been broken for weeks. Even BEFORE the remodel. And it's still broken.

You'll find the same wrappers and debris on the locker floor for a week straight which proves it's not being thoroughly cleaned. Trash is often overflowing in the locker room too.

The worst of it is THE HAIR. There are hairballs and clumps ALL. OVER. THE. FLOOR. I leave with someone else's hair stuck to my socks, in my laundry, on the bottom of my shoes. It is SO disgusting and again proves the floors are NOT being thoroughly swept or mopped. There's will be hair wads all over for days. The same ones.

The lockers also aren't EVER checked or wiped out. I don't expect this to be a daily job, but maybe like every 2 weeks or once a month? They're filled with dust, trash, abandoned moldy clothing, make-up residue, and of course, hair.

Sanitizing wipes are VERY often out on the floors in the early evening too, and are never replenished.

Also, they don't monitor the spa. Twice I've had to report it's unusable because it was overflowing with foam, obviously topped with balls of dirt and mud. Unbelievably unsanitary. It makes me not want to use it at all knowing it's left without regular maintenance or cleaning.

This would honestly be a FANTASTIC gym if they'd just CLEAN THE PLACE. I'd be happy to update my rating if there was a consistent improvement

I have gone by multiple times to cancel my membership. Each time I am told the only person who can cancel is not there. I went 3 weeks ago during business hours and the young lady at the front desk was very unsure on how to handle the situation however she proceeded to print out a cancellation form and said she would see that the manager gets it and I would receive an email notifying me that the membership has been cancelled. Almost 3 weeks later I call to follow up, speak to someone who identified himself as the general manager of sales. Said there was no notice of cancellation and he would see to it that the manager was made aware the following day. I called back today and had to explain all over again to whoever answered the phone just to be told the manager was there however it’s her last day and she doesn’t have credentials to cancel my membership. She made sure to tell me that cancellations were don’t in person to which I replied that I was very well aware of that due to already going in person and it not being handled correctly.

I don’t understand why this club is making it so difficult for a member to cancel. I highly doubt my $35 a month will make a huge impact on the business but then again there are far nicer gyms coming into the picture so maybe they are trying to cling on to whatever memberships they can.

The men's locker room is in terrible condition. The showers have been dirty and smell like urine for over a month, and it seems like nobody cleans them at night. It's very disappointing that management doesn't care about this. On top of that, some gym machines have been out of order for more than a month with no sign of repair. Please take responsibility and improve the cleanliness and maintenance!

This location is amazing with amazing trainers. I’ve had Coach Cat as a trainer for 3 months and she’s been nothing but knowledgeable, empathetic, and great at pushing me to failure. I’ve made progress not only physically but mentally through her guidance and I’m extremely happy. I’ve lost 15 pounds in the most healthy way. This is one of the better gyms I've been to in San Antonio. Great amount variety of equipment, rarely so packed you have to wait significant amounts of time to get your full workout in, even during peak hours.

No "women's area" with substandard equipment that gives the message we don't belong in the gym. It's obvious for everyone and the membership appears to be about 50/50 men and women, with people of ALL ages (I see a lot of seniors there) and fitness levels.

Everyone I've talked to has been very respectful amd helpful and mind their own business or is just friendly. No pushy, creepy guys or weird vibes.

So why did I take off 2 stars?

A lot of the equipment needs repairs and updates. A LOT of the machines have torn pads, which hurts, and usually at least a small handful are out of service because they've just outlived their lifepsan - frozen adjustments and broken cables.

The lady's locker room also needs to be cleaned a lot more often than it is. The floor is consistently dirty and sticky, and the same trash has been stuck to the floor for weeks.

My experience at this LA Fitness location was completely unacceptable, all because of the man currently managing the sales department. He has black hair, possibly Latino or white, and he carries himself with such arrogance and aggression that it’s genuinely concerning.

When I asked him a simple question, instead of assisting me professionally, he immediately became rude, sarcastic, and argumentative. He cursed during our conversation, repeatedly interrupted me, and seemed more interested in proving a point than providing any help. His ego was clearly in overdrive.

When it became obvious he didn’t know how to answer my question, I respectfully asked him to get someone else to assist. Rather than doing the obvious and asking for help, he doubled down on his pride and started name-dropping the “head honcho in charge,” as if throwing around titles made up for his lack of knowledge. If you can’t admit you need help or let someone assist you, you shouldn't be in management—especially in sales, where communication and humility matter.

He refused to involve anyone else, clearly more concerned with maintaining control than resolving the situation. The entire time, his behavior was so combative and hyper-aggressive that it genuinely felt like he was on steroids. That’s not just an insult—it’s a serious concern based on how unstable and confrontational he became over a basic conversation.

And let’s be honest—if this is the type of person LA Fitness has chosen to lead their sales department, you’re setting yourself up for failure. As someone who works in marketing, I can say with full confidence that his behavior is going to drive down memberships and destroy customer trust. I walked in curious about joining; I walked out completely appalled.

I’ll be contacting corporate directly about this, and I will never return to this location again.

I love the people at this gym but I don't like how a lot of things are broken. Pool seems to always be having issues, the bike room..most of the bikes are broken and I don't think the ac works in there, it gets so unbearably hot most of the time. It's not even summer so this is very concerning.

Constantly see soap dispensers either empty or filled with water, a lack of stocked sanitary wipes for the equipment. The pool constantly gets shut down for repairs. Today the sanitary wipe stations were completely removed, so I canceled my membership. It's not as bad as the potranco location, which has roaches in the locker rooms (which is why I started coming to this location in the first place) but frankly the sanitation standards are too low for the price I'm paying.

This gym likes to make you sweat. They keep the air alway hot. Even in the winter. If you need detox, then come here to lose water. I’ve asked them multiple times to lower the temp by 2 degrees and they lie about corporate controlling the air every time. Other La Fitness gyms in the area are always cold. When they fix the air, I will fix this review.
Update: they’ve turned up the humidity and now the whole gym is a sauna.

The management and staff of this LA Fitness location are incompetent, or dishonest. Neither of which should be qualities of people running a business. I joined this gym to swim… and the pool has been broken for the last 3 weeks. No big deal.. it happens. But when the front desk staff (at the direction of management, I’m sure) continues to tell me it will be fixed “the next day”, “by end of the week”, and then finally “it’s fixed!”.. it gets increasingly frustrating as a customer. Because none of those statements were true. It takes some prep to get all your swim stuff ready and over to the gym. Swimming is what keeps my body (and mind) going. When the front desk staff told me the pool was finally fixed, I got my stuff together and over to the gym this morning.. to find the pool still broken. I’m beyond disgusted with the management of this gym.

I'm getting myself to go 3 times a week, some on the equipment and some in the pool. There's been a few days the pool was a little cool for this old lady, but all over, everything is great! This Babcock location is great! It's always super clean, employees are all nice & helpful. It gets a bit busy in the evenings, when people get out of work of course, but there's always enough equipment to get a workout. The hours they're open are perfect, if you wanna go in super early or late, they're open! So if you wanna avoid people, you can. Not many people use the pool so if you like to swim laps it's perfect. The water aerobics class looks pretty good too. The locker rooms & showers are very nice as well, big & clean. The sauna isn't huge, but it's never too full, so you can always use it. They have an entire room with over 40 bikes for spin classes or personal use when there are no classes. The GM Tito is super nice & went the extra mile to accommodate my family that's visiting so we can all work out together. I 100% recommend LA fitness, especially this location! They even have a shop with healthy snacks & smoothies. It might be a little more $ than other gyms, but it's honestly worth it, just do it!

I’ve experienced an unprofessional issues due to cancellation with the La fitness workers.
As a professional licensed Therapist who values understanding long-term relationships. I found it difficult to continue my membership at LA Fitness. The staff members involved handled it poorly, leaving me frustrated and hangs up the phone .
As a result, I have made the difficult decision to leave LA Fitness.

Probably the most underwhelming location. You'd think for the monthly memberships of all the people that go to this location, some of that money would go towards basic machine maintenance and upgrades. A lot of the machines are rusty and seem like an older generation of models. The treadmills have charger cables that were compatible with some of the first smartphones on the market, which shows how old the machines really are. They only have 1-2 units of machines that are really popular in today's workout industry, leaving patrons to wait for machines to become available. Some machines have had a "Scheduled for Maintenance" sign taped to them for literally nearly a year now with no sign of them being repaired. Many of the treads and grips on machines have smoothed or ripped due to use and have not been replaced. Foot straps on bikes and rowing machines are missing. Hoping this location gets an updated collection soon because it honestly feels gross touching some of this equipment.

The Babcock/Huebner location needs a serious face lift. From the 90s water fountains half out of commission to the rusty (literally) machines, or from the locker room privacy bringing back high school gym vibes do to no locations for changing after your shower this place is sub-par for the cost. There isn't even a door to keep separate genders from stepping out of the pool right into the wrong side by side shower/locker rooms. As a female coming here at 6am makes me nervous, but it's the closest gym to work..

Honestly this gym has really gone downhill. I’m giving it two stars instead of one because the equipment has a good variety… however you can tell corporate is really trying to penny pinch.

They’ve gotten rid of all paper towels in the fitness areas and replaced them with sani wipes that (conveniently) have an ad space above them. If you sweat a lot, you’re out of luck because there’s no towel service either.

The worst part though are the employees. They do not maintain the restrooms or the weight area. Weights are left all over the gym and the employees don’t care. They turn off the lights 10 minutes before closing. And today at 8pm the employee yelled over the intercom “the gym is closed. GET OUT.”

These are easy issues to fix. Get it together, management.

If you are joining this gym for the pool, don't waste your time. The pool is either: dirty; freezing or closed. If you are lucky you MAY get to use it once a week. If you say anything to the staff, they just refer you to another location. So....my advice - start with ANOTHER location.

Every location in San Antonio shows multiple punching bags on their website (False Advertisement). I have been to 4 different locations and all only have one bag. On top of that, one has to wait for classes to be over to hit the one bag. This leaves little time to work out. There is plenty of room to allow both classes and bag use at the same time. Please do something about this. The staff is very friendly and locations are nice. But there are many other gyms to choose from in the area. I would hate to have to change gyms, but if nothing changes I will do so. And take my family’s memberships with me as well.

Clean, people are really nice. Very quiet, no wait for equipment. Indoor heated pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Classes are great!

This gym rocked under the previous manager but the one that is here now seems to only be interested in walking around looking at a**. The rowing machines are always broken and the no bags on floor rule to prevent another gun incident is no longer enforced.

This isn’t a bad gym but I’ve been coming here for a little while now because I love close by, the only complaint that I have is the sauna in the mornings (6am) is never on ! I’m not sure if they just forget but 9 times out of 10 it’s never on!

Worst gym you can go to the staff is extremely rude, I had taken my son with me to workout and it was hhis first time (he’s 15) and I left him alone for a solid minute at the bench press machine and when I got back one of thier trainers had asked him to get off the machine to help a client! My son didn’t know what to say so he stopped his workout and was discouraged after,when I let a staff member know how rude that was he laughed in my face and said to “wait till they are finished” unbelievable !! I will be cancelling my membership immediately!

Machines are rusty and smell bad, the whole area around the free weights smells bad, equipment looks like it has never been wiped down, and mirrors were filthy. For how many people are signed up for memberships, it seems as if no money is put into this gym for upkeep. No cleaner available to clean off benches after people sweat on them. At 3:00 on a Monday there are somehow no free weights in the lower level (see pic). Overall bad experience, too many other gyms in the area to continue going to this gym. I’d rather be at a planet fitness, not even joking.

Locker lock removed and all possessions stolen.
Wallet, credit cards , keys and even underwear stolen.
Very little help from the staff who were minimal interested.
