Worst staffs ever, they wanna build up their business and keep on calling to sell their business but hardly have any courtesy or proper communication. I hate their fake free trial class scheme and how I have to feel like a joke as if I am begger and there for freebies. To you LA fitness and two clueless dumb staffs, one of which is Chris, whom I encountered both the time I went to try your trial class but failed, FYI I can afford for yoga and I go to Pure Prana, just because I am at Autry Pond, and this Bulverde location is walking distance, I wanted to try and see this yoga class to compare if it would work out for me to join, but rubbish!!! I walked back and forth two times for half an hr each, just because the dumb staff can’t manage things there, first I admit though I wasn’t explained about expiration thing about trial class, I should have been mindful enough to notice it in email where I got my pass. Later they call me again to sell and arrange it for trail class so easily , which I know, could have been done at first visit itself. Anyways I was happy atleast someone(Orian or some Ryan) know what to do and how to do but I go for class and again the same two staff clueless!! Oh I just feel very angry to continue with the story, with the flashback of their dumb clueless face while writing this review.

I’ve been coming to this LA Fitness for over a year and it used to be spotless. Clean locker rooms, fresh eucalyptus scent in the sauna, and a well-maintained facility. Unfortunately, that’s not the case anymore.
The gym now constantly smells like body odor, the barbells in the back have a moldy smell, and the men’s shower curtains are visibly molded. Worst of all, the indoor pool is always green. That’s not just unpleasant, it’s unsanitary.
C’mon LA Fitness, you used to take pride in this place. Don’t get too comfortable, it’s time to step it back up.

Longtime member, but they refuse to call out rude people who get on a machine and immed turn it into their personal phone booths, chatting non-stop at high volume to a point where my ear buds can't compete or drown put the prattle three machines distant. We come to LAF for a stress-relieving workout, NOT to play unwilling audience to episodes of This Is Your Life. The lack of common courtesy and manners by those self-centered clowns, and LAF management's reluctance to address same, is disappointing...

So upset with this business. I emailed them at least 5 times, went in the actual facility and spoke with 3 different people and was told my membership was cancelled. I have not been there in over a year to work out and have been trying to cancel it for the last year!! My mom has Alzheimer's and I am her sole provider and have been for the last 3 years. I told them that and that I could not continue with the membership over a year ago and they have consistently charged me. I even complained with my bank. I have called to speak wit someone and NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE!! WORST CUSTOMER CARE EVER

I took 2 stars away because of the elderly woman they hired in the child center.

I brought my toddlers on Monday afternoon at 5pm and the elderly woman didn’t even bother to get up or hold my 1 year old that was crying. At first, I assumed she was disabled but when I came back an hour later she was walking around. I saw her yell at some children that slipped through the gate… honestly the lady seems like she doesn’t have the energy to watch small children. I’d move her to a cleaning role where she doesn’t have to interact w guests.

I won’t be bringing my toddlers in the afternoon anymore and if you have toddlers I’d suggest bringing them in the morning or going to a different location.

Such a clean, well appointed facility! I am visiting family for an extended stay and searched for a fitness club with group classes as well as weight machines. This place has it all, including several racquetball courts! The staff members are so friendly and helpful and I really enjoyed the yoga classes!

Disappointed with Unfair Pricing and Poor Service

I’m really disappointed with my experience at LA Fitness. When I signed up, I was charged a $99 sign-up fee. Just five days later, I brought my girlfriend to sign up, and she got a far better deal—only a $25 sign-up fee and access to all clubs. When I asked why I wasn’t offered the same deal, I was given a weak excuse about it being a Cinco de Mayo promotion. That didn’t feel fair or honest.

On top of that, the staff member who gave me my complimentary coaching session was completely unhelpful. She had me do a single sit-up and said that was it. Not what I expected from a “free training session.”

Overall, I feel misled and undervalued as a customer. I expected better transparency and service from a brand like LA Fitness.

I’ve been a member for a year, joining during a promotion that brought in a lot of new members. Unfortunately, things have only gotten worse since. Most of the rowers and other equipment were broken when I signed up, and they’re still in the same condition a year later. The gym isn’t fitness-friendly—much of the equipment is bolted down, limiting what you can do. Most frustrating, though, is that right after most members renewed their annual memberships, the gym changed the rules: the newly renovated functional fitness area is now off-limits unless you pay for personal training. Staff have been openly confrontational if you even get near it. These changes weren’t disclosed ahead of time, and it feels like a bait-and-switch.

Good gym but I went in today and it was closed without any sign or explanation. I understand that a lot of things were closed today for weather, even though the weather improved in the afternoon, but there should at least be a sign or some update somewhere letting members know. I like a lot of people have to schedule my workout sessions around other activities and it's not the same every day. Not good!

The fact that you closed down your locations for the whole day is absolutely ridiculous. Im not surprised by this location, though. It seems no one really cares here. There was no ice on the roads by 10 am, but yall closed for the whole day. You couldn't even hang a sign, update your online, or even set up a voicemail to let people know. A BEAUTIFUL, well-maintained club with plenty of exercise equipment, a pool, spa and a sauna all enough to accommodate at least 200 members at a time, if need be.

There are many Classes on offer throughout the week to suit one's tastes from Yoga to Aqua Fitness as well as Racquetball courts and Free Weights.

The Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and there's a Juice Bar, as well.

My wife and I have been coming here for about 2 years. I'm here 3-4 times a week. No gym is perfect, but this location has friendly staff, clean and functional equipment, and plenty of available machines. Sure, there is an occasional machine waiting for a repair or an empty wipes dispenser, but overall this is a nice gym with staff that seem to care.

Just recently signed up for this gym, and I must say very disappointed. The only reason why I go is because it's the closest to me. The equipment is old and not enough of it either. Hardly any space feels more like a retirement home. Definitely could use an upgrade. I expected a lot nicer of a gym because it's LA fitness. Crunch and fitness connection are way better and cheaper. I might just have to suck it up and drive the extra 20 minutes just to go to a better gym.

I've just started coming here, and I already feel at home. I've never felt like the at any other gym. It's always been kind of awkward for me and I've always felt lost. Not here. Carl is extremely encouraging and helpful. The age range is very wide and everyone does their own thing. I've felt no intimidation as of yet. The amenities are great for the price. Basketball court, pool, racquet ball, sauna, zumba, cycling classes, kids care, and more. They also have a great juice bar with smoothies and acai bowls.

No complaints except for the guy at the front. He always complains about customers leaving the gym later than 11pm even if it was just 11:02pm. I passed him when I was leaving the restroom and I overheard him saying “Ugh now I have to wait for this old man” Imagine if that customer heard him saying that? He has been very unprofessional in front of the customers. It’s okay to be vocal, but not to a certain extent. It’s not just me who recognized his unprofessional behavior. I’m leaving this review bc I want the management to be aware of this situation. We encountered his unprofessional behavior multiple times, it’s not just this time. But I think we have had enough of him that I’m finally leaving this review. We have been members of this gym for more than 5 years now and this is the only time that we encountered this type of behavior.

Very deceitful, if you go in to get a membership it'll be 100$+ no matter what, but if you do it online it's only like 40 and they have deals if you look them up. Went to cancel my membership today, tried to do it over the phone and the young man who answered told me the only way to cancel is to come in ( so they can charge you or try and convince you not to) or mail a letter into the home office 😑 which was obviously a lie since I did it for free in less than 30 seconds online. He also told me there was no way to cancel auto pay which was also a lie 🤥. Moral of the story is, never trust them they just want the money. And do you're own research 🫶🏽

I am a member here, and today I brought my sister and cousin (from out of town) with me to swim laps in the pool. We called another LA fitness location, and they explained how they can both get a guest pass. They both attempted to get the guest pass online, but the website is down, so we walked in with the assumption that they would be able to get these passes, do our little swim, and move on with the day.

Colton greeted us at the front and asked if they were interested in a membership, and they said they aren’t at that moment-he then refused to give them a guest pass. Please note that the website where you actually get the free pass from says NOTHING about a requirement to get a gym membership to get the pass. The point of a trial is also to see if maybe you DO like the facility enough to get a membership, and considering that neither of my people had ever been to an LA fitness, they easily could have gotten a membership if they liked it enough. They have no gym membership and certainly aren’t dead set against it. I asked Colton if they can get the guest pass if they said they were interested in a membership and he said no, then proceeded to condescendingly explain what a business is to us (three brown women, two of whom are a doctor and a lawyer).

Colton said he would let them both in for $20 and I just wanted to hurry up and swim, so I paid. We went to the hottub while we waited for the lanes to free up, and there was a sign that the spa was closed, but all the jets were on, water warm, and there was already someone in there so I assumed the sign wasn’t applicable to the hottub. We weren’t even there for 5 minutes before Colton yelled at us through the glass that the spa was closed, then came to us and told us it was closed, and at this point we just decided to leave because of how frustrating the experience was. We tried to get a refund for the $20, but of course Colton (Doctor of Business) said that we can’t. Btw, he didn’t seem to mind that the other person was still in the hot tub, just that these three brown woman were in it. He truly made that 15x more irritating than it needed to be. Worst location in my opinion-never had an experience like this at LA fitness before.

Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced at an LA fitness gym. I’m in town for the week and my cousin has a membership to the gym. The online guest pass wasn’t working, and the boy working at the front (Colton) made us pay $20 just because I wasn’t explicitly looking for a membership at this time. Even though the website says absolutely nothing about that being a requirement for a guest pass in the first place. And if the website was working we wouldn’t have had this problem at all.

Then he tried to talk down to us and lecture us about what a business is. It’s worth mentioning at this point that this is a white boy talking down to two brown women. We pay the money to get in and try to enjoy the rest of our time there in the hot tub. Next thing we know, we’re getting yelled at because the “spa was closed” even though the hot tub was fully on and there was another person who had been in it who had no issues. After that it was enough and we just left. We asked for a refund on our way out because we ended up only spending 10 minutes there only to be told there was nothing they could do. No understanding, no empathy, just empty platitudes to get us to shut up. Absolute disregard for our experience there with clearly not a care in the world. Oh, and of course there was still someone in the hot tub on the way out because apparently the rules only mattered for us.

Large selection of machines, benches, incline benches, and free weight benches. The sauna and pool facilities are nice and well kept. The only complaint I have is the dumbbell section smells very bad. Not sure how to describe the smell, but you’ll notice it. It’s like they don’t clean the dumbell handles or racks

LA Fitness has been a dirty, shady-sales, health-uncaring location for a long number of years now. Out of desperation to shut off my nerves (I have nerves which burn and stab all over the surface of my skin) I went here a few days ago, and even as I can tell that, finally, the hot tub worked again and had been bleached? It smells worse than ever, literally like you’re soaking in a bowl of toilet. I couldn’t stay in there long, and no matter because the hot tub was not up to temperature anyhow.

I did swim in the pool and my thought kept coming back to “I hope they at least put the chemicals in the pool to kill anything in here that’s catching” and I don’t necessarily mean Covid, but between the mold, the bugs (it used to be just nasty drain flies all over the showers, but now fat juicy ants are on either side of the pool as well as between the hot tub and wall.

This place is disgusting. Nobody cares. Hell, this time around I didn’t even wind up checking in because my tag didn’t scan and there wasn’t an employee in sight. Best part of this gym? It’s a cakewalk paycheck for the employees…🤷🏼‍♀️

Only been a couple times.. Plenty of benches, lots of treadmills but they are older. The phone holders are all super old (original iPhone connector old) and sticky.. Looks like a decent smoothie bar but I've not tried it yet. Small pool that doesn't seem too busy.
People at this gym seem to not care about re-racking weight plates so often times plates are just left on equipment.

The manager of this one is what makes Irvine of the best gyms in town! Dawn knows all the regulars by name, greets us all every day and runs a crew of upbeat positive staff who really mean it when they say ‘have a great workout’. It’s a fantastic atmosphere and now with a juice bar inside as well. Check it out for a dose of old fashioned smiling customer service we all appreciate more than we can say.

To start with, the positive:
-There are always staff at the entrance who greet you in a friendly way, sometimes genuinely, sometimes, it seems, because they've been told to
-It's spacious and generally clean
-Lots of treadmills, bikes, machines, barbells, and weights

And then the negatives:
-Some of the equipment is very worn: the bench covers are torn, the frames are rusted, treadmills aren't cleaned
-Weights are not returned to where they belong
-There are no bottles of disinfectant spray to use on the equipment, and the wipes provided are a joke; they're tissue thin and dry out in 2 minutes
-The wipes litter the grounds outside around the gym
-Although there are signs telling members not to drop the weights, mucho macho folks still do it
-Some social misfits (there are always some) yell at each other even though they're 2 feet apart or yell into their cellphones while they're working out, annoying everyone else
-The music tape sucks. Turn it off. People who want to listen to music bring their own. People who don't, don't, and don't want to hear the same tape over and over again.

Suggestions:
-Replace the worn-out equipment, or, if that's beyond LA Fitness' financial abilities, re-upholster the benches, steel-wool the rusting metal frames, scrub the treads on the treadmills
-Have at least one staff member cruising the gym at all times (instead of sitting at desks), to replace weights and wipe down equipment because only a small percentage of members bother to do that), to remind members of the "no dropping weights" rule, to be available for members to ask questions (how the hell do I keep this foot rest from dropping??), and simply, to add a personal touch to members' experience
-Provide substantial wet wipes or cloths + disinfectant spray bottles throughout the gym

I'm a 72 year old woman wanting to rebuild strength! I've been working with personal trainers at LA Fitness since August 2022.
My new personal trainer, Devin Johnson (DJ) is incredible. He customized my plan for optimum benefit while taking into consideration my various health issues. . Great personality, and he certainly knows his stuff!!

They lie to get your money. Signed my name to a contract I did not sign. Told me I could freeze payment at anytime. I tried due to medical issues then was told oh we don't do that anymore. Which was 1 of the main reasons I even agreed to the PT membership.. so in end it ended up costing me over $1800 that I didn't use.

I went to several gyms with a friend, but was sold on LA Fitness by Jamal Porter. He was professional, gave us a great tour, told us about trainers, classes, exercise equipment. He didn’t have to be pushy, he sold us on the facility!

this is my go to gym and it makes me sad to give 3 stars. i do love the location but the equipment is old and constantly broken. weights are not re-racked at the end of the night like other gyms. several small pieces of equipment always go missing, including stoppers, cable attachments, etc. wish they fixed it up a bit.

We are a military family about to relocate and when I went on my only convenient day to cancel my membership I was told I can only cancel M-F 9-5…when looking at all the staff they had at their desks not busy I asked if a manager was available to assist and was told he was the manager and was corporate policy. While this gentleman was super respectful and polite it makes no since why this company chooses to make cancellations inconvenient for families. We will not be rejoining once settled in.

Not sure about some of the reviews, but my experience was great with Ethan Mall!

He is the new Fitness Director and he was able to provide me a great personal training package that will help me reach the goals I set for myself.

The gym was clean and there are lots of amenities in the deal I received. Everyone was nice and courteous!

Dawn and her team are awesome! i’ve been coming to La fitness for a couple months now and they are always super helpful and super nice. A couple weeks ago we had two back to back ice days and Dawn allowed my son in the kids club to try it out and he had a BLAST! The equipment is new and very nice, but there is definitely room for improvement. I see people cleaning frequently yet the ground over by the weight machines have tumbleweeds of dust/hair. They also had an ant problem in that area for a few weeks. Also, since they redid the whole workout area, It would have been nice to have an updated bathroom. Some locks don’t work and the bathroom is run down. Overall, mixed bag!

Average gym with adequate exercise machines. The place is kept clean and the few young staffers around are courteous. The place has a deficient attention to customer service or replacement of miscellaneous but frequently used amenities such as volleyball standards and net, which are damaged. Members must carry the equipment on their own and rig it, in order to use it.
The basketball/volleyball court was fixed due to water damage which now seems like a blessing. The place has so much potential but I doubt the staff gets paid adequately enough to care.
