Life Time Downtown is truly top-tier. The club is always spotless, the floors are so clean you could practically eat off them. The team is welcoming, the energy is great, and every visit feels like a luxury experience. Easily my favorite gym in Austin.

I was visiting from Chicago and Lifetime Austin completely impressed me. The gym is spacious, clean, and full of great energy. What really stood out was the protein bar. Javony was so friendly and helpful, and he suggested a custom mocha smoothie that tasted exactly like Reese’s cups. It was delicious and the perfect way to wrap up my workout.

His joy and genuine support turned a quick stop into one of the highlights of my day. If you come here, ask for Javony’s custom mocha. You will not be disappointed.

Had a heart experience at LifeTime Fitness Downtown this morning! The club was clean, equipment was perfect, and the staff was wonderful, especially the guy at the cafe! I had an açaí bliss smoothie while getting a little work done in the cafe on their free Wi-Fi. 5-5 stars - Would workout here.

Women wearing shoes in the sauna is disgusting, hope management will do something about it finally, putting a bigger sign “shoes not allowed” could fix this issue FYI

Was in town for business M-W. Showed up off the street, they asked how long I’d be in town and that they’d be happy to accommodate me the entire time I was in Austin. Now, I believe my membership
tier in my home market may be higher than this one, but again, they were happy to accommodate regardless. It had 95% of all the free weights, machines and cardio offerings I expected to see. It was packed right after work hours but it was fine. Would go back and would send friends to this location for a convenient LTF offering.

The worst LT I’ve been to. To be fair, our home gym is the Westlake location, but everything here was outdated, lockers had greasy dust all over them, condensation dripping from AC ducts, bathrooms were filthy. Go to a different one in Austin. Wild if anyone thinks this is up to standard for LT.

Lifetime is probably the best gym chain as far as amenities and equipment, but it’s not worth $200 plus a month. It’s very crowded all the time, the basketball court is always being used by the kids camp, the basketball competition isn’t good for the price, and I stopped going because the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze! Hopefully they improve so I can go back.

Been coming here for almost three years and I'm not sure if it's just the wave of new people you get at the beginning of each year, or a change in management, but the cleanliness has absolutely gone way down. Employees are great but they need to make sure people put their stuff back or go and put it back for them. That's why I pay $250/m to come here over the other club gyms. If this doesn't improve, I'll be driving elsewhere for a membership rather than walking across the street, that's how bad it's gotten.

Please do better.

If I want the full life time experience and set up, I go to the South Life Time location. I use this one most because it’s walking distance from home and convenient. TBH it’s basically a cleaner LA Fitness minus a pool or hot tub. Not at all worth the cost (I’m on a cheaper family plan that I started years ago so it’s not as bad as the new $250/person rate).

I like it because I enjoy working out, but value wise it’s a bit crap, especially since this is the most expensive Austin location. It’s a cash grab. Staff is very nice though! Love them.

lifetime is a good club, it’s always been clean and the staff has always been great to work with. I’ve been coming here for two years and love this location. It’s down the street from where I live and easy to get to. During peak hours it is busier than it should be but I just go outside of those hours anyway.

To the people complaining about the water jug get over it, there are water fountains and any normal serious gym goer is going to have a water bottle or not care about a jug. It’s crazy what people complain about.

During peak hours it is very busy and the gym is too small for the crowd, outside of peak hours the gym is always fine. To the guy complaining about 4 am and super late hours. It doesn’t make sense because even at 5am or 10pm there are like 10-15 people in the gym.

They’re always very good about saying if something is gonna be closed. Like the shower thing, I’m pretty sure we were notified a month out about that and they were apologetic about it.

The gym has always been clean, I’ve never thought the locker rooms were disgusting. People comparing to planet fitness are crazy. This place and the people that go here probably wouldn’t step in planet fitness.

It is expensive compared to the larger clubs, but it does come with its perks. You can practically go to any club in the country and definitely the others in austin.

If you’re complaining about the dues, then this probably isn’t the club for you anyway, go to planet fitness or golds where you belong, the Lifetime and us members don’t want to deal with you either.

Im excited for the south Lamar location, but hope they keep this spot open as well.

*December 2024 Update: for a while, this location got better about trainers being more considerate to members and even added an additional Alpha rack, but they’ve recently slipped back into old habits. See attached photo - there are only six racks available, and they’ve reserved all of them during the busiest, peak time of day. They also continue to have issues with mold and recently closed the showers for a full month, with the recommendation to “visit another one of our locations” to shower. Unacceptable for a “premium elite” membership gym. Friendly front desk and Operations staff are the lone good quality of this place.*

Pretty sick of your trainers acting like they have the right to boot paying members (who are guilty of nothing except trying to workout) off the equipment and non-reserved racks because they “have a client in 10 minutes” or “in case someone shows up for Alpha class.” It’s unacceptable. Maybe if these were private clients being charged to reserve equipment, but we all pay just as much as them.

Save your money and go to any other private gym in the area. We pay a premium for the downtown location and it has the least amount of amenities and squat racks of any location in Austin and way too many people for a facility this size - it’s borderline unusable during peak times. Management has been unresponsive to feedback from members and it’s only getting worse as they continue to sell more memberships.

You should just close this location and stop embarrassing yourself. If you call yourself elite gym with high standards then provide highest standard facilities. I pay high premium exactly for great amenities otherwise regular gym will do just fine and comparing to this location they are beating you by far..
I hope management reads this but membership becomes completely overpriced when considering what you get in return.
P.s. they don’t even have shower room.

I used to be a member here at lifetime and I did have a lovely experience. I now do various workouts around town or on my own. My favorite part of lifetime was finishing my workout and getting my almond butter shake from Javony (thank you Javony, you’re the best) I will workout on my own or go to Barry’s or wherever actually then walk to lifetime just for my almond butter shake because nothing else around town compares. So delish and I also just love seeing Javooooony!

Say "No" early and often, because their staff doesn't understand it the first time!
If you go to cancel, they will try to extort 1 more month of fees out of you... And then cave as soon as you say I aint paying - the telltale sign of people who AREN'T doing honest business!!

Plus the front desk staff here is moody and snotty and won't let you use a card to scan in, even though management is perfectly willing to issue you a card for this purpose if you don't want to use your phone.

All in all these are DISHONEST PEOPLE. BE WARY!

(Repsonse to owner comment below:) I DID try multiple times to speak with your team about every issue above, and was shut down or dismissed every time. I tried speaking to the front desk, approaching other employees elsewhere in the gym, calling your phone number, AND emailing your team. This gym closes earlier than other gyms. It closes at 7pm on weekends (even Golds stays open til 9pm) yet this “Lifetime” costs $250! It is also limited with wasted studio space that should be other stuff and super small bathrooms. The lockers jam and lock people out daily. No pickleball or basketball court. No climbing wall. There’s not even a pool. The staff is friendly though so that’s a plus. But $250 is a lot to pay monthly for the hours and what you get here. They should at least have summer hours that are longer.

*Review is strictly in reference to the location on 5th in downtown Austin*

In summary this location is run poorly, amenities are never stocked, gym is overcrowded, the hours are insanely disappointing, but the equipment is in fine condition and decent quality.

$230+ a month and they can’t even keep the water cooler filled, despite it sitting right in front of the manager stand. How hard is it to have an employee keep an eye on it or do an hourly refill?

When I signed up this was branded as the “exclusive and elite” location in austin, hence the highest dues. Then you come to find out like half of the people here aren’t even paying members but rather have some deal with their employer or local organization that allows them to workout here. I’m all for this type of thing except when falsely presented that this is an “exclusive” club and despite the space being on the smaller side, it will never feel overcrowded. WRONG. Lines to get into the sauna at 8pm… wow.

I joined this location because of its location convenience for me, but the south location is 100x better at a lower rate too.

Some of the staff is great though, I don’t want to dog on them. Especially shout out to the guy with short hair and red beard, he’s always working on something and very friendly. It comes down to a management issue, as they can’t even seem to keep amenities in stock.

I speak as someone who as been a member of the other “luxury branded” gym and overall it feels LifeTime has solid vision but poor execution

This location in downtown Austin just seems like a regular old gym to me. My opinion may be biased as the last time I was at a Life Time was in Colorado and it was never ending. That’s kind of what I was hoping for, but it’s okay. I understand that since it is in the city, it will be on the smaller side. This used to be a nice club but now it’s too crowded and impossible to find racks during 430-6pm block. This is not the size of club that should have Alpha classes taking up 3 out of the 5 squat racks w/platform between 515pm-630pm every M-Thurs. It makes it impossible for normal people with jobs to workout after work and do any sort of strength work. It’s extremely overpriced for the lack of amenities and equipment. Not worth the money. I used to be a member when this gym was Pure Austin. When it was purchased in 2019, they raised my membership price by $30 without my consent (several members then complained and life time was forced to reinstate the preexisting price). Today I just received an email from their new manager to let me know they are raising the prices again by another $30 starting next month (less than 30 days notice). Let’s be clear: this club is classified as Diamond, it is by far the most expensive, but it offers less classes and amenities than any other Life Time locations in Austin.

Life Time has proven to me that they are nothing more than a corporation, and do not have any regards to the well-being of their members. I have had to place my membership on hold since the start of COVID, and over a year later they resumed my membership on short notice. I reached out to ask that they return my membership fees, as the COVID situation has placed me where I still cannot access the club. I am working to take care of my mother and am in a really tight financial situation.

Their manager claimed to empathize, but took a corporate stance and refused to return my money. Life Time is a large company who I'm sure would have survived without my money, but please enjoy taking funds I could have used to support my family in these very uncertain times.

I will never return to this facility, and really think they should review their ethics as the money-hungry company they have turned out to be.

Awful people, minimal effort to make things right.

Nice basic gym but it is too high on the lifetime hierarchy of clubs (diamond) when it doesn't offer the same amenities. It also closes too early for it to be that high (10p). Comparable diamond clubs have soccer field, basketball court, climbing wall, multiple pools, 24 hr access, steam rooms, sauna, more than one room for group classes, and not economy sized. This is just overpriced and features limited hours. It should be below an onyx level club, like a platinum club max. Putting shaving cream at the sink doesn't make it a diamond club, sorry.

I joined Pure Austin in 2001 and it was a very sad day when Life Time took over. It went from being a locally-owned, personable business to being a faceless corporate-owned gym overnight. The employees have (or claim to have) no control over any feature of the gym such as type of music, volume of music, or freezing temperature in the women's lockers. The answer to any of my questions or requests is either "I don't know" or "the corporate office handles that." They raised personal training fees to the point where I can barely afford them. The women's locker room is nowhere as clean as it used to be. The only upside to this corporate takeover is the brand new machines.

This downtown gym is just okay. It has the typical “Make it really difficult to terminate a membership” contract. If you’re overseas or traveling it’s literally a wet ink signed FedEx to end your membership. Otherwise, you have to be there in person and wait for someone to help you wet ink sign their termination form. So they have to allow you to quit.

Parking is difficult. I was told I couldn’t park in the gym parking twice despite having a membership and a parking pass. Lots of running machines. Wait in line for other machines. Had a trainer for a few weeks. We spent half the paid time waiting for machines.

Been a member downtown for about 10 years. First and foremost, this is a glam gym. If you are serious about lifting, there are better and cheaper alternatives in town. Limited racks and leg machines, but they’ve done a good job incorporating a mix of equipment to meet the majority I suppose. This being said, very nice and very well maintained with a super friendly staff. My recommendation, post gym etiquette signage in the gym. Examples: don’t lift free weights right in front of the weight racks, don’t slam stacks (go lighter if you can’t handle the weight), don’t take up three stations for an hour especially with limited equipment, etc.. No brainers, but not to the newbies.

Having to make customers leave your gym due to filming THEIR workouts (when told and given consent that it was okay to do so) is utterly disappointing and just wrong. Everyone films at the gym! Isn’t one of your messages to “Empower people to become their healthiest, happiest, most authentic selves, and supporting a balanced, deeply satisfying way of life” isn’t filming their workouts to help others?! while at your facility doing exactly that? Not to mention advertising your gym for you, for free?
Tsk tsk Life Time. I will be going elsewhere! 👎🏻

I'm not against lifetime onyx premier memberships, but for this location specifically:

Short hours (far from 24/7), no hot tub, no pool, no steam rooms, no full life cafe or really any major amenities =/= onyx premier in my eyes

They only call this onyx premier because the location and the fact they give you qtips, mouthwash, and separate jr Watkins conditioner and body wash in the showers...imo the north Austin location should be premier and this should be gold at best

Edit: I'm updating my review to reflect the Lifetime remodel at the north (Quarry Lake) location. If anything, the Quarry Lake location is *significantly* better after the remodel. *FIVE* great quality Technogym Olympic half racks! Lots of redundant dumbbell weights. Overall better use of the floor space IMO. Not sure if there were different people responsible for the north vs downtown location remodels, but not sure how the north location got so much better and downtown worse. Leaving my comment below to reflect the downtown remodel.

Was a member of this gym since before it was Pure. Lifetime switchover stinks. The place "looks" nicer, but they actually have less equipment, e.g. they only have one set of dumbbells, a lot fewer squat racks than they used to, etc. Major bummer.

RIP a great gym (Pure) after Lifetime took over. If you’re a weight lifter, look to Golds until Equinox opens. This used to be one of the best gyms in the USA...definitely the best in Austin. Then Lifetime happened. No problems with decorative upgrades (tanning bed grade overhead lights excepted). Here is some basic equipment that is now missing:

Machines where you load weight plates, which are valuable if you don’t work out with a spotter or trainer:
1. Incline chest press
2. Decline chest press
3. Shrug machine
4. Front squat machine
5. High row machine

Additionally now missing are most of the mirrors that used to be throughout the gym.

The only good news about the changes is that there seems to be a mass exodus of members, and the gym is now never crowded.

Multiple emails to management about improving the equipment offering (after Lifetime needlessly replaced high quality equipment) have not been returned, so posting here in the hopes of inciting some changes to incorporate some basic features of pretty much every other gym I’ve been to.

This was a great gym. Lifetime took it and changed it. The switch out all the equipment for lower quality Lifetime equipment. It’s no longer for anyone that is serious about working out.

Was a member of Pure Austin for over 10 years but have left after trying to stay a member when Lifetime Fitness bought it. Changes I saw that made me leave were that it was not as clean, debris in the cracks of the work out floor and old sweat I could see on the floor. Then the variety and number of classes started to decline which was a big issue for me as I regularly did yoga and spin classes.

I've been going to Pure now for years and I really love it. The staff is always super friendly and welcoming, the towel service is on point and the facilities are always super clean.

Highlights for me of this location are the sauna, recently renovated locker rooms and the variety of equipment and classes that are offered. I work downtown and having this location so close means I can easily incorporate my workouts into my day.

I also really love their smoothie bar and snack options for post-workout.

kudos for THE most smartly laid out gym i've been to. assisted weight machines are kinda old and out of date but are very well maintained. pros are...1- they set up their cardio machines on bleacher style rows that face the whole gym so you can watch people pass by which makes the gym feel always active. 2 - the spin bikes(which are the wonderful kaiser mach3 bikes) are grouped in an arc that face a large window. there's a heavy curtain that they draw around the bikes to muffle the sound - what a concept!!!) the female members are nice to look at too ;)

only thing is it has the most secretive entrance on any gym i've seen. Update on weight assisted machines. I have a personal problem with working out in them. A bit uncomfortable

$20 for a single session. So exe. Alternative was 10x 1 day passes at $19 each. $190 bucks for about a weeks access! I'm travelling, and only in Austin for a few days, but don't want to drop $100 on gym fees. No option for travellers, seems very 'sign up and it's cheap' by making casual options really expensive. Spoke to the memberships girl, so it wasn't like it got lost in translation. If you are casual, don't bother. Poor form.

By far the best gym in town! Everyone of the staff is friendly and knowledgable. The classes are top notch. The downtown location is a great spot to get your fitness honed and then you can go north and test that fitness on the climbing wall, pool or lake. So you get two great locations with unique flavors of their own. And speaking of flavors, they have the best smoothie bar and coffee around.

Great gym! They have plenty of weights and machines, so you can always do your workout. I absolutely hate having to wait for someone to finish in order for me to do my sets, especially when I'm in a hurry, no problems of that sort here. I already picked up a 1 year membership.

I truly love Pure Austin Fitness! As a runner and former triathlete, this place is the indoor gym for outdoor people. I used to say, you would never find me working out inside but with both locations being so convenient, it's hard not to.

The staff is friendly and by the end of week one, the desk attendant knew my name and barista knew I wanted half n half in my coffee. BTW, Great Coffee!

The locker Rooms are clean and spacious and renting a locker is super affordable. Which helps being that work is right around the corner.

I can't decide which location I like best. I love the quarry at Quarry Lake. Getting in an open water swim is too easy. I also love the south location being so close to Town Lake. Being downtown is close to home. Incan hit the gym and get in a great run at TW, then a few drinks and Tacos since I'm downtown.

I'm so glad I found Pure.

Pure is a great gym!! I love their group fitness classes, you can always find something you like, from spinning to yoga. If you like to use a variety of machines, you won't be disappointed. Clean bathrooms are particularly important to me, and the deliver, including towel service. Awesome! Go check it out and you won't be disappointed.

THEY HAVE THEIR OWN LAKE! they do yoga ON THE LAKE! you can stand up paddle board which is amazing. the water is clean and beautiful, and I have only talked about the lake. The facilities are also super clean with lots of natural light and awesome equipment. I have never been to another guy that is anything like it.

THE BEST GYM IN AUSTIN.

I've been a member for years. Couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I look forward to going to Pure every day.

The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. Beto the owner is a super positive and friendly guy. Always has a big smile on his face.

His attitude pours over into the gym and the community. Lots of members are involved in the running, cycling, yoga, rowing, etc communities and include Pure as part of their goal to live a healthy lifestyle.

One of the things I like most is that they hand you a sweat towel and a shower towel (if you need one) when you check in. Then you just drop them off on your way out. It's a small thing, but so important to me.

Pure offers tons of value like that. They go out of their way to make your experience great every time.

Not only are both gyms clean, beautiful, open spaces, the machines and equipment are all in great condition. Classes, offered many times throughout the day, are awesome-spin, yoga, core, etc. I love that the downtown gym is close to the running trail and Whole Foods. The north location has great amenities like the lake and pool.

Plenty of lockers to store your stuff, a smoothie/coffee bar, great locker room with a sauna, tons of televisions to watch while you run on the treadmill/eliptical, etc.

I tell everyone Pure is awesome. Several friends have joined and they gave me a little gift cards in appreciation for the referrals. Another example showing how they care about their members.

Bottow line: Awesome gym with great facilities and positive vibes.

I love working out here and have enjoyed my membership for over 6 years. I love the classes, primarily yoga and spin. The machines are always clean, plenty of towels, and the bathrooms and showers are always spotless. The longer I've been a member the more I've noticed how hard the staff works to keep things clean, working and looking good. I've really come to appreciate the attention to detail and have gotten to know quite a few of the trainers and staff over the years. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Good smoothies and coffee too and being next to Whole Foods is a great convenience. Best gym in Austin, hands down.

There is no doubt that this gym is the best in town. It's a clean and modern space, with lots of machines and weights, so you are never waiting long to get in your set. The classes are great too. Especially spin - they have a lot of really nice bikes and top notch instructors. You can't beat this location either. Being right off of the town lake loop is perfect for nice days where you want to go for a run outside and finish up with a weight workout. Then you can just walk across the street to Whole Foods to get your dinner, or even grab one of their killer smoothies in house. While you are working out you are surrounded by great views of downtown Austin. Oh, did I mention the steam room and sauna? Worth it on every dimension.

The best gym in Austin, and the best gym I've ever been to. The space is clean, open and airy. Plenty of cardio machines, tons of spin bikes (and a large variety of spin classes), huge selection of dumbbells, free weights and machines. Lots of group classes...but I have to admit that I've not taken advantage of any of them. Pretty much something for everybody.

The locker room is clean and dry and they have a snack bar area to grab a smoothie after your workout.

I've worked out in plenty of "old-school" gyms...dark, dingy, moldy, what have you....I've also worked out in Bright and Fancy gyms that don't have enough equipment or are more for "hanging out" than for working out. Pure Austin is a Bright and Clean gym that's designed for people who are there to work out, and it's got enough equipment to get a great workout without spending hours waiting around.

Pure Austin has ruined other gyms for me, because I can go in, get a great workout in and really push myself and all the while it's a great looking open and airy space.

Staff is friendly and machines are always working.

The best compliment I ever heard about Pure Austin Gym, though, was from a female co-worker...she told me it's the only gym she's ever been to where everyone is there to do their workout and no guys are there just to hit on the ladies.

So, to sum it up, Pure Austin is a great looking gym for those who want to get a real workout in while in a beautiful, clean space.

Best gym in town, hands down!
The place, stuff and atmosphere is so vibrant, fun, popular and full of energy, yet there is space, equipment, classes for everyone. If you add location to the whole bunch of positives (I go to downtown location) then really, as I said, easily best gym in Austin.

Oh, don't be surprised if suddenly you will happen to talk to the owner, Betto, cause he is super nice guy, who always makes sure you're good.

Pure is pure awesomeness! From the people who own and run it to the caliber of athletes. Though Austin's top athletes can be found there, it's also a place for general fitness, connection and fun. I've not only made some of my greatest friends there, but it was always my "happy place", working out or hanging out :) Don't go anywhere else! I've tried other places in Austin and in many places around the country...nothing compares!
