I love this place. Just what the Dr. ordered!! I shall definitely come back. Christine was very kind welcoming and helpful! I used their hyperbaric chamber and tried the infra red sauna for the very first time! Bother were relaxing and healing.

I've been putting off writing this review for awhile. I've been at Metroflex for more than a few years. While it has always been a hardcore garage gym type atmosphere, it seems the last few years have plunged it into a free fall. Unfortunately, it remains one of the few gyms not in undated with influencers, tripods, and the like, so I'll remain for the time being. If this were my livelihood, I'd start with a few things. I spent over a decade in business management, and had the opportunity to build several businesses from the ground up. I take alot of pride in the successes I've had. I realize if equity is a problem, you're limited to what sweat equity can accomplish.

1. I'd start with getting rid of the copious amounts of duct tape holding everything together. Marine grade vinyl is cheap, staple guns are cheap. Recovering gym equipment is no more difficult than wrapping a Christmas present. It only takes a bit of time and effort. People will notice.

2. I'd give the place a good, proper, deep clean. There's decades of dust collecting at the bottom of equipment, in corners, behind the dumbbell rack. If I couldn't afford a proper service, I'd bite it off but by bit every day... A full detail of sorts.

3. I'd start trying to build a community. I'd have a evening BBQ and advertise to members and encourage them to bring family and friends, hold free nutrition classes, free posing clinics, car/motorcycle nights... Anything to get the community in and involved.

4. I'd get a grease gun and start greasing machines where needed, replacing some of the cables that are down to bare wire, tightening up bolts on dumbbells, and maybe even grabbing some sandpaper and enamel paint, and start bringing some of my equipment back to life. I prefer the feel of old equipment... It's even better when it's well maintained.

Putting CBD and delta 8 vending machines isn't going to add value, passive aggressive notes on every wall isn't going to drive membership. Metroflex is an institution of sorts, and it seems they're struggling and may have lost their way.

Building a brand takes effort and hard work... Something I'm sure anyone serious about fitness is well accostomed to. I genuinely hope to see positive change in metroflex. It remains one of the last old school, independent gyms around, but at $50 a month, there's so much competition offering so much more in way of equipment, and amenities.

Should the Metroflex team see this review...I hope you know it's not out of malice, but out of love for a gym that has brought me so much personal growth, and mental well being.

I thoroughly enjoyed the hyperbaric oxygen tank. The front desk receptionist was very kind and thoughtful. She explained each step carefully and checked in with me periodically to see if I was OK! She also offered me package deals for future use. I world go again!

First time here. Searched for gyms in Austin and checked all out within 10 or so miles. This place is the real deal. I’ve trained in a lot of gyms, including some of the most hardcore ones like Diamond Gym, and this is one is serious. Awesome mix of newer and some classic not often found real machines. No machine is just taking space. All are purposeful. You’ve built a great place, Shea. Will be back next time I’m in town. Pics showing some machines not always seen, especially the nautilus pullover!

Spent most of my visit waiting to use broken and rusted equipment while the people β€œusing” it were engaged in excessive conversation. Gym has potential but needs upgrades

Best gym I've been to, everyone is friendly but is there to lift. So you'll get friendly hellos and then leave you alone so you can focus on your lift. It's not for everyone, yes the equipment is old, but it works, yes it's a warehouse gym with an outdoor area, but it's as clean as it can be with those criteria. It's a true judgement free gym no matter what your level.

This is a no frills hardcore gym. Machines may be old and plates may be rusty but it's a great place to plug into your fav music and work. It's in a warehouse, so just know it's hot af inside.

Constantly having issues regarding overpayment, then was accused of sneaking in a guest(who is also a member). When asked about it, management was defensive and petty. Very unprofessional staff, not to mention the very dirty and rusted equipment. For $45 a month, any other gym is gonna be worlds better.

The first thing to know - Metroflex is a β€œhardcore” weightlifting gym. There are cardio machines, but they take up a small portion of the building. You go here because you want to lift heavy, and because you want something open 24/7.

There are a few downsides. While the racks and machines are generally clean, the floor is dirty, and a lot of the machines, bars, and plates are rusty or tattered. They work, just don’t expect anything slick. There’s also a non-stop rap, rock, and EDM soundtrack, so if you don’t like that, be sure to bring a good pair of noise-canceling earbuds.

In the end though the gym has an unusual charm, and it’s a good place to be if you want to aim for a 500-pound deadlift or a 300-pound bench.

Metroflex is an awesome gym. It's slam full of equipment, blasting loud music, no frills, just a hardcore bodybuilding/powerlifting gym. No A/C, but has big fans...that was part of the charm to me. I've seen the videos of Ronnie Coleman, Branch Warren, and Johnnie Jackson lifting heavy in those hot gyms and this place did not disappoint! If I'm ever in Austin again, I'll definitely be paying them a visit! Thank you!

I am currently going to this gym to see a posing coach. Ms. Amber is great. She works with me to get together for time and dates. Reasonable pricing. She makes me feel very comfortable and she has been very helpful. The gym itself looks like a great atmosphere! Lots of space and lots of equipment.

I love this place. I was so put of my league at the beginning and felt intimated, but everyone is nice, trainer Lu got me into the grove and I am happy. Dropped 20 pounds in 2 months. I like that I'm indoors but the big doors are open ... fresh air, sunlight ... the best of both worlds.

Don’t know if Lou still personal trains there or not. But he’ll take your money and run with it. Better use someone else. Also I understand it’s a hardcore gym, but this is the dirtiest metroflex of them all. With broken equipment 24/7.

Love my trainer a d gym is hardcore. Its not for anyone looking for fancy spas, Jacuzzi, aerobics. Its for hardcore weight training. Highly recommend of you dont want to worry about which yoga pants or cutesie shorts to put on next. You go to workout. And its 24/7

Poor staff, hostile and judgemental environment to most. This coming from a guy that's been to all the metroflexs in Houston, Tx. Poorly ran facility. I'm starting to see a lot of the old members here at Big Tex Gym and Golds. Just all around a poor and disgusting facility with a lot of broken stuff at any given time.
