Attended my first free workout on a Friday morning with my best friend and by the end of the workout, understood why OTF - Sunset Valley is renowned! Our Instructor Tav (forgive me if I’m remembering it wrong but the nametag looked like a “Y” or “V,” sorry brother 🙏🏾) was informative, encouraging and humorous. I enjoyed the music selection & thought it be inclusive to offer earplugs for those with different preferences. I especially appreciated the modified options for every stage of health/fitness in the room. The fact that my best friend and I were the only new ppl let me know that ppl consistently GAIN a lot here 💪🏾If it’s in your budget and you are South, you will not regret completing a workout here! Shoutout to John for the informative tour! Bonus points for a very clean location!

Great place to relax and exercise. Always clean. Coaches can help you if you have orthopedic issues. These work-outs are nothing like your high school physical fitness class: no screaming, no bullying, no whistle blaring at everyone.

Nothing but great things to say about this studio (+Aboretum) and their employees. Major shout-out to to Victoria for all of her help and kindness!! She is a gem! I always struggled to work out alone, so the Orange Theory concept is perfect if you struggle with that as well. There is a lot of variety, instruction, and the music is always a hit.

OTF workouts aren't easy - but the friendly Sunset Valley members, staff and coaches make it fun. Special shout out to Coach Matt who helped me recover from an injury last year - he went out of his way to create modifications when I couldn't do the prescribed workout, and shared heartfelt encouragement to keep me motivated. Thank you!

Orange Theory Sunset Valley is fantastic! The coaches are motivating, knowledgeable, and make every workout challenging yet fun. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming, creating such a positive atmosphere. But I have to give a special shout-out to Victoria at the front desk—she is absolutely amazing! She’s always upbeat, remembers everyone’s name, and goes out of her way to make sure you feel welcome the second you walk in. Her energy and kindness make a huge difference and really set the tone for a great workout experience.

I joined OrangeTheory Fitness Sunset Valley about 5 weeks ago and I’m LOVING it! The staff and coaches are friendly, motivating & supportive. The workouts are challenging and FUN with awesome music. I really like being able to monitor my heart rate on the screen so I know when to push a little harder. Special shout out to Victoria for inviting me to try my first class!

I'm a 64 year old woman trying to get back into the gym after recently retiring. This studio is one of the bigger locations that I've visited and it has definitely been my favorite. The staff is great, especially the 4:15pm class. It's a really fun group of people and the class overall has made me feel comfortable and welcome on my fitness journey.

I love OTF Sunset Valley. Yes, there are problems, not everything is perfect.
When I began my workouts at the studio, there was only one person there, so I never got any sort of intro or how-to and embarrassed myself a couple of times because I didn't know how the system worked, but after a few classes and some nice regulars, it worked out. Additionally, I signed up for a 1/2 marathon and I believe that I got to my goal and was hoping for a a t-shirt, medal, a Way-To-Go sticker or something (because these things were displayed near the sign-up sheet), but when I asked the front desk person, she said to check my app and that was the end of it. A little disappointing, yes, but minor in the grand scheme of things.
Also, it is expensive. I signed up, paid $100 for a heartrate monitor (a mandatory additional purchase to begin) then they ran a free heartrate monitor promo the following month. Irritating...certainly, a deal-breaker...no. Basically, you can purchase on a class to class basis, or purchase a mid-range priced monthly subscription that will get you about 2 classes a week, or sign up for the top-tier membership for unlimited classes. They periodically run specials for this so that it is only nominally more expensive than the mid-tier option. I would wait for these as they seem to happen with some frequency during the year. I'm sure, however, that this varies depending on the franchise.
I, too, was disappointed to find out that, while I was told when I purchased the membership that I could workout at any OTF, it is only true with an additional fee depending on the franchise. This was not relayed to me, but again, when I signed up, there was only the one person working, and she was running a class at the time.
Lastly, I learned that they called my emergency contacts to try to get them to join the gym. This is my biggest irritation with the franchise and the last of my complaints. Again...irritating....certainly, but a deal-breaker...no.
All that being said, I do really love the gym. I have a high-stress job and finding this as a release has been a life-saver for me. I have to work out at a specific time that not every gym can accommodate like they can.
Likewise, I am pretty lost at a gym. I have always tinkered with running, but never with any long-term results. Mainly because I never know what to do in a gym and refuse to spend $500 a month on a personal trainer. This system works for me. It is more expensive than a membership at Gold's or another similar gym, but you also get more interaction and guidance. The coaches let you know exactly what to do, but you have a choice of intensities and it is on you to decide how hard you want to work that day within the guidelines of the workout provided. It is pretty foolproof for those like me. And there all body types and ages there, so regardless of where you are on your fitness journey, there is a place for you here.
There have been a few coaches since I began here, I liked them all, some more than others, but all kind and encouraging; helpful without being over-bearing or overly intense. Coach Houston was the one I started with and has always been encouraging, even when I began and felt like I couldn't keep up. She also took the time to notice as I was getting stronger and made sure to let me know she saw improvement and to keep working at it. The most recent coach (Coach Matthew) has been my favorite by far and it is always pleasant to be welcomed by someone who takes the time to know your name or if you've been absent for a few days.
All in all (if you've made it this far) the moral of the story is that this gym is not for everyone, but it is for me and those like me. I am not an elite athlete, pushing 50, but gaining strength and confidence every day without spending an arm and a leg. If you are someone who knows what they need to do and can do it on your own at a classic gym, then this may not be your cup of tea. But if you're someone who likes a good workout, but needs some guidance, I'll see you there :)

I go to a number of studios. I do like the staff here and yes the workouts are great. BUT, there are repeatedly issues I encounter with the equipment here. Tablets missing from treadmills when you’ve already secured that spot and they don’t tell you, rower tablets not working, treadmill belts being off, rower straps deteriorating…there really needs to be more attention on this.
That, and hygiene. It might be a reflection of some of the members, or lack of cleaning, but the body odor inside the studio has been really bad in recent classes. I hope the studio brings attention to these issues, because they are good people in a good location.

No complaints with the coaches, but do know that if you have any issues you will struggle to get it resolved, my case in point (this is what I submitted to Better Business Bureau):
On 5/13/24 I received a text message from Orange Theory Sunset Valley stating that if I signed up for Elite rate at $109 I would also receive 8 free classes. I immediately agreed and signed the paperwork over Docusign. Almost a month later I asked about the free classes and was told by studio staff that they would look into it. I then asked the next time I came on Monday 6/17 and was told that the new manager had discussed giving me a free class, but not the 8 I was promised. I was told they would talk about it and let me know. When I went in on 6/19 I was told that the manager had decided not to honor the offer at all and would give me no free classes. After writing in my complaint to the studio, the manager gave me one free class. No other escalation path appears to be available although this appears to me to be fraudulent as all the workers at the studios can see the offer I was extended in their system.

I am very upset with how this gym handled an injury that I communicated to them. I have never had issues with my knee, but after going a little too hard one month, I was having knee inflammation which caused me not to be able to work out effectively. I came to 2 of my 8 classes the last month of my membership and my knee would hurt so much I would have to ice it and could barely hobble around the next couple of days. I contacted Orange Theory multiple times to communicate this to them and see if they could credit at least a portion of the 6 classes I had remaining for the month so I could give my knee some time to heal. I kept getting the "only the manager can handle this and she's in a meeting, she'll call you back" more times than I can tell you with a very low success rate in following up on that statement. When I did FINALLY talk to the studio manager Lys she told me that she would have to get approval from the higher ups. I said, "shall I follow up with you tomorrow or the next day?" to which she very rudely replied that SHE would follow up with me by the end of the week...which again didn't happen.
I was also told that "due to membership discrepancies from the previous manager at Sunset Valley, our comp classes are being watched with a very close eye & without a freeze documentation provided, our support team will not approve those classes to be added to your account."
I asked what freeze documentation was needed and she finally told me that, "the only way we would have been able to honor the classes was with a freeze form provided during the timeframe you did not come in. There is not a freeze form, which is why we would not be able to honor giving away the classes."
I had been in communication with her for some time going back and forth by then and at this point was I told I needed to fill out this documentation to try and salvage some of my classes. Additionally I told her that she wasn't "giving away classes" as she stated because I paid my monthly dues for those classes and was unable to use them.
The workouts are great, but honestly not worth it for what a scam they ended up being after dealing with this one sour employee.
The previous studio manager Anthony was really great and understanding when life happens. Had he still been there I would still be a member. I don't understand how they could have credited at least 2 or 3 classes to my account when they constantly give them away to prospective members.
There were a lot of coaches there that I also really liked, but a lot of them left. I'm sure the politics of this company made it less than enjoyable for them to work there as well.
If OT is willing to credit me 4 of the 6 classes I missed, I'd be happy to take this review down.

I've been going to OTF for 2 years now and really love it. There is something for everyone. The coaches are great about working around any injuries or limitations, you just have to communicate those. I absolutely love rowing and I was really nervous about the treadmill but I found I absolutely love power walking in inclines. It's really increased my lung capacity and has helped my hiking. Would recommend if you haven't liked traditional cardio.

When did orange theory, a luxury gym membership, adopt a “used car salesman” method of business practice? I called them three weeks ago and asked to cancel my membership as I was laid off and couldn’t afford it right now. They said they’ll have their studio manager look into it. Imagine my surprise this morning when I had another monthly charge. When I called this morning to ask for a refund and ensure that my membership is cancelled, Molly, who answered the phone, continued to cut me off as I was speaking and basically talked over me to say “we’ll look into it and get it worked out.”
Sunset Valley crew, please immediately refund me for this months charge and cancel my membership, or I will be forced to classify this as fraudulent charges and take this further. I’ve been a member of OTF since 2015 and the way this has been handled is egregious.

I love this studio and honestly no other studio has compared to the OTF family here. It's a big credit to head coach Sean and studio manager Anthony who've fostered the awesome and supportive environment at Sunset Valley OTF. All the staff and coaches are absolute gems and they make having a membership an easy choice. I'm the most consistent I've been in the gym in a long time, I'm in the best shape of my adult life and it's because I actually enjoy all the people I'm around, not just the workout. Don't ever change y'all!!!!!

I can’t speak for other studios but the Sunset Valley studio is amazing (and this is coming from someone who is extremely introverted and wasn’t initially comfortable working out when I knew people were watching me). The staff members and coaches are so friendly, energetic, encouraging, and dedicated to helping you improve to reach your goals. They really strive to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth out of each class you attend. And I love that, but I also love the people in this community, too. Everyone going to Orangetheory has a common goal - to improve themselves and their health - and they all encourage each other and bond over their common goal. The entire community here really strives to make you feel like family whether it’s during class, through monthly social events, special classes with parties afterwards, and so much more. I know Orangetheory has gone through management changes in the past few years and some of the older reviews might not be accurate. As a current member who’s been here since 2021, I definitely think you should give this studio a chance. The first class is free for first-timers anyways, so what’s the harm?

I have had an absolutely horrible experience at Orange Theory - Sunset Valley and am writing this review in hopes that it can help someone debating membership there. I have been a member since March 2022. During my membership, I stopped attending the Sunset Valley location due to a lack of professionalism and several coaches leaving. I have tried to cancel my membership since NOVEMBER 2022. When I called in November of 2022 it took me calling three different times over the course of three days to finally get someone to answer the phone (I also only ever called during working business hours). Once someone finally answered the phone, I was told that a manger would call me back shortly and that only the manger can handle cancellations. I wait 48 hours, with still no callback, so I call Orange Theory Sunset Valley again and it just so happened the manger was in. The manager said that it was a terrible idea to cancel my membership and that if I cancelled and wanted to rejoin I would be paying double of what I'm paying now. He strongly insisted that I put my membership on pause for two months. I obliged. Come the beginning of February, I had not thought about Orange Theory once and forgot to call and cancel my member (my fault). I immediately call Orange Theory Sunset Valley to cancel my membership for March. It again took me calling several times to get someone on the phone, to get the manager to call me back and to receive the cancellation papers over email. The lack of professionalism and the lack of customer service from Orange Theory Sunset Valley was absolutely appalling. Every time I called, either no one answered or I would get a sour attitude.
I sent my cancellation papers back within the hour and was promised and reassured multiple times over the phone that I would not be charged for March. Then, over this past weekend I see that I was charged for a March membership. I immediately called Orange Theory Sunset Valley, explained what had happened and was told that the manager would call me back. Obviously no one ever called me back so I had to follow up (another example of how unprofessional this studio is). I spoke with the manger Anthony this morning and he couldn't have been less helpful. He essentially told me too bad and that the cancellation would be in effect for April. Did not apologize or do anything to rectify the situation. Again, very unprofessional.
All Orange Theory Sunset Valley cares about is money and has no regard for members. You can not get a straight answer if you can even get someone to answer the phone or call you back. I highly recommend that if you are considering joining Orange Theory that you join either South Lamar or Lantana where they care about each member and have fantastic customer service.

I have been an OTF member for over 5 years and had wonderful experiences until this studio! Last year I froze my membership due to some life events. Turns out they charged me for over 6 months because someone forgot to file the paperwork. I have called the manager weekly for months attempting to reconcile the issue and have had not only no luck but been treated poorly. Half the time staff won’t relay the message and the other half when I do speak with he manager he is quick to point out he wasn’t the manager when this happened and wants to take zero responsibility. At this point I’m just so disappointed that a longtime member is treated this way and they have done NOTHING to reconcile the hundreds of dollars they owe me.

I had my first class back in two years this morning with Carly. The workout itself was outstanding, but my favorite part of the class was at the end during stretches. Carly spoke about the relationship between food/drinks and exercise, and encouraged us to remember that we never have to "earn" or "deserve" the food we want to eat. She reminded us that we're not in class to "work off" those dinners we had on vacay or that night out we had with our friends- we're here to celebrate and appreciate our bodies and what they can do for us. That was so so so refreshing to hear, especially from a trainer, and made me confident that Orange Theory fosters a truly healthy and encouraging environment. I'm so happy to have rejoined.

I went back after a couple years to get that good workout in but scheduling is a huge hassle at the end of the month because you can’t use the app. I called the ssv location about 6 times, nobody returned my first message, 1 guy put me in the wrong class, other girl put me in the right one but then day of class I was no longer on the schedule. Even if you’re allowed to go to other studios, you must sign a waiver and put a credit card on file with each one or they won’t book you over the phone I found out. Also, unused classes don’t roll over to the next month. This is just too much of a hassle for busy people who don’t have a consistent schedule. Cancelling again.

LOVE Orangetheory in Sunset Valley. Let me say, I HATED my first three workouts. I had no idea what was going on, the energy was high and I was going to quit at the end of the month. BUT, I'm glad I stuck with it. Now I understand the process of the workouts and I need that high energy to keep me motivated. Kendall, Jon and Jeremiah (where did he go?) have incredible energy that make the classes what they are. Like any workout program, you need a high energy instructor to help you want to push yourself. I don't know how they maintain that level of energy everyday, but they manage to inspire our workouts every single class.
I have major knee issues. Surprisingly, the row machine has helped build knee strength along with many other exercises in the curriculum. Scheduling the classes in advance helps me stay accountable to my fitness routine and I'm much more fit than two months ago. Highly recommend!

Attended one of the it open houses and one of the staff misquoted the cost to join. I noticed the cost was higher as they swiped my credit card. I asked why and the woman at the desk informed me I had been misquoted but did nothing to apologize or remedy the situation, just pushed membership even further. Because there was a line behind me I didn’t want to make a scene and called them from the car to let the staff know I would come in the next day to discuss. Next day they admitted to having issues with the lying staff member but told me they could do nothing about it and I would still have to pay first and last months fees. I received an email asking about my experience and replied to the company noting all this but no one ever replied. Just another fitness company all about profit and expansion with no regard for the individual. Unfortunately I’ve heard several other stories similar to mine about this company. Beware.

insane workout very different from working out at a gym by yourself. if your out of shape or think your in shape i dare you to try them out. It takes you through a lot of different motion from just pumping weights.

Going to the gym has always made me feel like I don’t know what I’m doing. Paying for a personal fitness trainer also made me feel uncomfortable being one-on-one. So when I heard about OTF and how it works, I thought I’d give it a try with my sister. After our first session, I fell love! Being a part of a group of individuals in all shapes and activity levels made me feel at ease, the exercises accommodates to your activity level, and there is different exercises every single day. The coaches and staff are sooo wonderful and they provide you with the motivation and guidance through your fitness journey. I highly recommend OTF especially the Sunset Valley location.

I've had a great experience here since signing up 2 months ago. I heard about the addicting nature of OTF, and it's true... I'm totally hooked! I do have a slight issue with them calling this "personal training," as it's not at all. That being said, the workouts are actually fun (never thought I would say this as a reformed couch potato) and go by super fast. I feel like a badass every time I finish a class. I've seen huge improvements in both my cardio fitness and strength over the course of these 2 months. My clothes fit better, I feel great, have more energy, and it's inspired me to get my nutrition under control. Lots of modifications available if you need them. The coaches are great and seem to really care too. They're happy to take time before or after class to answer questions or go over form. I even like the cancellation fee for classes - it keeps me accountable to myself and is a huge reason why I actually show up to class. All in all, I'm really happy I took the plunge and joined. It's been a huge game changer for me.

DO NOT GO HERE!
OTF Sunset Valley is the worst company I've ever dealt with. They lied to me in order to get me to sign up as a member, they double charged me and have refused to refund my money, the manager Luis is a disaster and refuses to return my calls. I've gone in to complain over a handful of times to try and get my money back and each time they claim something new that was never disclosed. This is the most unethical and illegal company. Do not waste your money with them. They will "accidentally" charge you when they shouldn't and then refuse to refund anything. They claim a 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee and that's a lie as well. There's a special form the staff won't let you sign that's the only way to get out of it. Be forewarned when thinking about OTF as your fitness gym. It is the worst!

Just took my first class and signed up for a membership. This will definitely get you in shape. The coaches and the community and the heart rate monitors should help motivate me to keep going. I think. Only need to give 30 day notice to cancel. Lots of locations. Seems pretty great if you are out of shape and looking for someone to push you a little harder than you would push yourself.

This studio is fantastic! The coaches are all friendly, knowledgable, and encouraging. The workouts are challenging and change every day (as with every OTF studio) which really helps keep exercising from getting boring. Fairly sure that this specific OTF studio has the most space per-person in the weight room out of all the Austin studios, and that's a definite plus. I hated having to transfer to a different studio when I moved to the Northwest side of town because of how much I enjoy exercising here.

I love orange theory! I've been doing it for over a year and I've seen real changes in my body. I've always been a runner but I love that this workout forces me to challenge myself every day with running, the rower and/or weights. You can always push yourself more than you think and that's the consistent lesson you get from the coaches.

I'll give it 2 stars for now, it may or may not change tomorrow after I try a workout session. I stopped in today to check it out and get info and was not thrilled with how the staff treated me. From the moment I signed the guest book and answered that "you can almost see my home from here" when asked how I found out about the place, it was all downhill. The staff member made several off putting, sarcastic remarks, kept boasting about his own credentials and made me feel like an idiot when I asked any questions. Ex. When I asked if heart rate monitors were included or what the cost was, he replied "well, I won't buy you tennis shoes either".... just rude and pushy too. I did not like the vibe I got and the price point seems high anyhow. Slim chance I will sign up.
Edit:The owner Alex and the now former employee reached out and made things good. Myself and my bff signed up and love it. Coach Kate or Melanie are the best.

I hate working out but this is not a boring hour of your time. Before you know it, it's over and you've burned 500+ calories. You also know it's a worthy workout when you are sore the next day. When I stuck with going 3 times a week I was losing 1-2 lbs a week. All in all, OTF is the best type of workout for me and the goals I'm trying to meet.

I am a new member to Orange Theory. I have attempted to workout here twice to no avail. Both times the same two men have been there. I have visited the South Austin location on Slaughter and the Westlake location several times and they are both great. This location's staff are rude and the experience is very disappointing. Possibly a staff change is in order.

The OTF workout challenges me unlike any workout I've done before. No workout is ever the same, and my body loves that. The combination of focusing on cardio and weights is exactly what I need to push me to be a better physical version of myself. And the coaches help me keep going even when I'm ready to stop.
