There are only two good things about this gym. 1) There’s a man who works the desk who has tattoos and glasses, he was kind and very helpful. He seemed to understand my need for the gym and offered guidance as well as customer service. 2) The gym also appears clean for the most part. However I bought a one week pass to specifically use the sauna only to find out that staff will only turn on the sauna for 30 minutes intervals even though it can take up to 45 minutes for the sauna to reach its maximum working capacity. That rule doesn’t make sense at all. Why does anyone want to use a sauna while it’s heating up instead of when it’s all the way heated up? There are also a lot of out of order equipment. Lastly, the woman who also works the front desk is rude, awful and lacks customer service. I really wanted to like this gym but unfortunately the sauna that isn’t allowed to ever reach its max temperature and rude employees such as the bitter woman, it was a no for me.

It's an older gym so there's not that many people so in that way it can be nice and I did notice it was a few machines that didn't work but the people are friendly so if you don't mind an older place you may like this

Overall, it was a great gym with excellent working staff and a great environment; however, since I’ve been with this gym since 2015, the workout equipment reliability has decreased, and none of the treadmill or cardio equipment in the back works. The last time I went last month, only one treadmill worked in the back. I love this gym. It’s been a part of my workout journey, and I’m thankful for the gym environment; however, I would love to see improvements with the cardio machines or workout machines in general as they have aged and are displayed, stating out of order.

Was tired of Box gyms with all the ego lifters,m, this gym is older and raw. The staff was some of the nicest people I have meant at a gym, friendly and kind. The gym has older equipment with some of dumbbells but it’s has everything I needed and more. Very clean gym with great spacing of equipment and they didn’t have music playing loud or at all where ya can’t think. I wish more gyms had rules like this one. Will come back whenever I am in town.

Make sure you READ READ READ the contract.
Sec. 702.303. CONTRACT TERM. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), the term of a contract may not exceed three years. (this is from the statues.capitol.texas.gov)

According to the person I spoke to the contract does not have an end date. I paid everything that I owed because a 100 dollar bill a lot better than being in collections. The staff is really professional don't get me wrong I loved how they treated me, but this is a lesson that I had to learn to make sure to read the contract and do not lose it because it is 30 dollars to get a new one. A 40 dollar cancellation fee for a contract that has no end date.

Looking for a gym, just ran across this one online. I can't believe the owner responds to criticism the way he/she does on here. Clearly has a complex issue going on. Fyi, you might want to get with a consultant and learn how to run a business properly. Your doing enormous damage to your brand by getting online and arguing like a 10 year old with former clients. Anyone who checks your gym out online is going to be instantly turned off by your attitude. You clearly need serious help, both mentally and on the business side of the house. You have no business running a business.

Great gym... old school feel ... I see all complaints which just sound like it’s from people that dont know how the system works or just like to complain ... I remember getting behind on one payment (the yearly charge) but the staff helped me sort that out... so definitely if you are clear on policies and what not they do work with you ... Pharr gym is convenient for me specially on weekends when all other gyms are closed at the time I go work so I do rate it for what it’s worth to me (5 stars)

Don't do it. They will get you no matter what. Management are not kind people. I had my card stolen so bank issued me a new card. They penalized severely for missing a payment, no mercy. Because of that I asked to cancel account, they penalized even more...rip off... management won't care about anyone

Just want to send a shoutout to the owner of Pharr gym as well as its staff, ive been going to this gym off and on since 06 and let me tell you all, im one of them fellas that owe money from a previous contract and i still pay to this day even if it was back from 2010 and you know something? I really dont mind cause i LOVE this gym, the staff, the owner and his fam for the fact that they have opened their doors to me when there was no other gyms around (at that time) and within that time i have gotten to know these people and i really do enjoy being around them as well as the other members that walk in and out of this gym, my heart and prayers are constantly over that place because thats where i feel at home, where i can be me and i feel accepted and respected, this gym is my church so to speak, its where i fellowship with likeminded people and bring Glory to GOD through my training and meditations, i understand peoples frustrations or whatever but one thing is this, if you have a grievance of some kind its better to resolve it in person in a professional manner than to write a negative review calling that or those persons all kinds of filthy names cause at the end of the day we're all trash, we're all sinners, and we all need Our LORD JESUS to clean our hearts of all the filth thats coming out of our mouths, and to help shape our focus on getting the most out of each day through discipline and training, especially at The One The Only Pharr Gym! The owners literally cut the gym in half. Leg machines are almost non existent, as is most of other gym essentials.
Moreover.... it's always HOT!
I'm moving on to greener pastures.

I've been going to the Pharr Gym on and off since about 2002 and have yet to experience any issues with the staff, billing, or what not.
No, the equipment is not state of the art but it's functional which what I'm looking for. The machines are not always clean but I do find it's a few careless members who leave them in that condition. I joined because the gym is close to home, less than five minutes and not overtly populated as are other more trendy (and more expensive) gyms.
Billing problems are avoided on my part because I do pay my gym dues on time.
The staff is always friendly as are most of my fellow gym members.
A word to the wise. Look around the gym before joining, if it's not to your taste...don't join and do read your contract carefully to avoid billing problems.

This place has been forgotten about by the owner. Machines are never cleaned and often don’t work. Even if they charge $1 a month you are best to stay away from here. If there were no other inexpensive options in the valley then maybe go here but there are so many other choices to go of places that actually value their members and take care of their facility.

Unlike others, I never experience any issues with payments and had no trouble stopping services, because I took the time to read my contract and follow what was written.

There are some pros to this place but it's really just the price, theres a lot of cardio machines, ooen 24 hours and that there's a little bit of free weight space (not much). Other than that, the equipment is old looking, it does have a very dirty feel to it (which I think is probably because it's a very no nonsense you're there to workout kind of gym. Understandable but still kinda gross), there's no stretching space, there's few machines for people who don't like free weights and for "no contract" you still have a cancellation fee.

I'm having an issue right now where my partners card information was compromised so the bank sent him a new card and cancelled his card we have on file at the gym, we didn't get the new card in time to go to the gym and give them the new card information (which we were told is two weeks before your billing date) so we asked if we can go pay early to avoid late/bounced check fees....we can....but we're still going to get those charges on our account and have to pay them, the money we pay today will be "credit" on our account. Which ok, I can understand having a strict policy like that but how when it's something out of our control and we are willing to make a payment in person a couple of days before? I'll give credit to the young man I talked to though, he did seem like he was trying to figure something out and he understood our frustrations, but it seems there's no way they work with you in situations that you can't control. Apologies to the young man that had to deal with us on the phone, I really am sorry that you're on the front line for this.

We do plan to cancel our memberships as soon as possible. And before anyone says we owe money, no we do not. Our billing date has not come up yet and there are no fees we haven't paid to date. Avoid this place, it's not worth it when they have so many extra fees and you can't even pay ahead to avoid them! I luckily haven't had to deal with the owner but seeing the responses he's left to other reviews is appalling. It's amazing this place is still in business.

I attended here , and it has some pros and cons; pro being its cheap but i did have some random chargers in to my account , like i would get charged 9.61 a month then at random times i get charged 12 something a month ; con is being how the canceling fee is 30$ but i got charged almost 50$ , i also didnt like how they cut off half the gym back then it was bigger and now its small cutting away alot of my favorite machines , staff is ok they new manners i didnt have problem, and the owner does check his equipment manking sure its ok

Wow, there is an individual named Omar who on the evening of 09/13/2017 completely disrespected me as a person or client. I don't know who this person is, but the owner needs to take disciplinary action towards this person's attitude. He literally told "Tu callate el hocico" in a joking manner. I found this very disrespectful because i dot know him, and never have i dealt with such unprofessional. The new girl with glasses also accused me of not returning some equipment, when in fact I always return my equipment, and even some that is left behind by other members. The owner lost a lot of people during his renovation and will go out of business if he doesn't focus on customer service.

I was looking for a gym to join but I'm glad I read some of these reviews. To the owner of Pharr Gym, sir/madam, you need to learn some manners and take a course in customer service. Majority of your reviews talked bad about the maintenance/cleanliness of your gym and the customer service.
