I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Planet Fitness and the lack of transparency, professionalism, and respect shown by both staff and management.

When I broke my foot earlier this year, I was never informed that I had the option to freeze my account. As a result, I was charged all year long despite not being able to use the facility even once. When I addressed this with staff, I was told that I was “allowed to freeze my account only once” and that if I didn’t extend it after three months, that was on me. At no point was I ever informed that an extension was required. Instead of helping, the staff dismissed my concerns and insisted I would continue to be charged.

Planet Fitness has increased fees without notifying members, and the policies—which used to be reasonable years ago—have become confusing, inconsistent, and frankly unfair. The response I received from the gym was clearly written only to protect their reputation, not to help resolve the issue. I remain stuck in a contract I was misled about, and I have paid for a service I could not use due to injury.

UPDATE – November 19, 2025

This situation escalated into one of the most unprofessional and disrespectful experiences I have ever had at any business. I brought my 78-year-old mother, who is hard of hearing, to join me for a workout. What should have been a positive experience turned into a complete embarrassment.

The individual who claimed to be the manager – identified to me as Rodrick – spoke to both of us with a rude, dismissive, and condescending tone. My mother struggled with her phone, and instead of assisting her respectfully, he barked instructions at her, demanding she download the app, provide her email, and take a photo immediately. She was made completely uncomfortable.

We were then told she could not use the infrared light therapy and that only I could. From the beginning, Rodrick made it extremely clear that we were not welcome and could not fully enjoy the amenities. The situation escalated to the point where he told us to leave if we didn’t like it.

I have been a paying member for three years. This year alone, due to my broken foot, I have been able to visit the gym only twice. For my second visit to be ruined by a manager — who behaved more unprofessionally than any employee I have ever encountered — is absolutely unacceptable. My own employer does not speak to me the way this young man did.

Planet Fitness has taken my money while providing almost no usable service this entire year, and the treatment my mother and I received was disgraceful. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and I expect Planet Fitness to address the conduct of this manager immediately.

For anyone considering a membership:
Be aware that cancellations require paying multiple fees, annual fees are increased without notice, and the “all-club access” membership comes with strings attached. Ask many questions, because the information provided to members is inconsistent at best.

I will be extremely hesitant to return, and I will call ahead to ensure this manager is not present. His behavior was unacceptable, unprofessional, and deeply disrespectful.

Had a few health setbacks this year, so just getting back to the gym. This is my first time using Planet Fitness. I really like that it’s extremely affordable! I’m hoping I can stick with it, but if it’s a slow go, I won’t break the bank or feel guilty for not being motivated lol

Overall I like the facility. It is clean and everyone seems nice. The staff overall have been friendly when I’ve interacted with them. You should know that if you plan to sign up for the Monday or Friday workout class at 6 or 6:30AM, the guy doesn’t come in to teach. I’ve signed up for it 3 times now. The first time the front desk guy called the instructor, and he eventually showed up. He was super nice when he arrived! He said she would show up for the Friday class and didn’t. So when I signed up for the following Monday, I called to make sure he would be there, the lady checked the schedule and said he’d show up, and he never showed. So just be aware when you’re signing up for classes! Other than that it’s great!

I'm going to leave a 5-star review for this location because of the size and equipment availability. I usually hit the gym after work and that's during rush hour 5-7pm. There's plenty of equipment available here and the parking lot is open. There's other locations in Houston that are good just way too packed with people standing around on their phones wasting time plus equipment is broken. This location is huge on the inside and you're not standing over people waiting for the next turn on a machine. Almost all of the equipment is ready to use and they even have plenty of new machines. I prefer this location to anyone who doesn't mind the drive for a get in and get out workout.

This was my 2nd time coming here with my boyfriend, it's a very easy check in process and everyone that goes here seems very respectful and it's a very pleasant vibe here , saw the signs for their "remodel closure" june 22nd to July 14th excited for what they're adding , sad that we'll have to find another location to go to while they're working on it. Good overall

This my first time here been checking others out as well i noticed those in this area the hot water in the showers never really hot warm at best i noticed a small gnat problem in the showers the staff is welcoming and very helpful once i said there’s no soap to wash my hands it was changed immediately this the first time i was able to get a 20 min session on the massage chair the ones i been to 15 is the max and a lot don’t even offer the 15

I go to this gym Monday-Friday every week and am always able to get a good workout in! Never have to wait too long for machines because even at its busiest it’s not overwhelming packed. Im able to easily wipe down machines with multiple towel/spray stations everywhere. I’m always greeted when I come in and wished a good day when I leave by front desk! I’ve tried all types of gyms and this one is a great fit for me. Plus it’s so cheap for a membership!

This location SUCKS! Much better several years ago. Now the massage chair and a hydrotherapy bed is broken, equipment needs repair, bathroom is a disaster, and the front desk is missing employees. Also, members wear slippers and crocs, listen to their phones on speakerphone, and a lot of dumb assess spend most of their time on their phones - instead of lifting and moving to the next machine.
To make matters worse, soon the clueless teenagers (ADMITTED FREE) will come in groups soon to tie up the equipment from us paying customers. What a deal!

So I have been coming to this gym for years now and I use to never really have issues coming later in the mornings but this week I have been coming at 4AM-5AM and the guy upfront with the curly hair just seems like he doesn’t want to be here. Monday or Tuesday ALL the paper towel dispensers were empty other people and myself were literally walking around wasting time trying to find paper towels and today he isn’t loading the dispensers correctly and they all keep jamming and he catches an attitude when you tell him. Should not have to be inconvenient for us to get paper towels to clean the machines and get tissue in the women’s bathrooms.

2 Stars for this location being clean during most of my visits. I’ve tried to cancel my membership and get into contact with a manager. I was advised by a planet fitness employee to write a letter of wanting to cancel my membership and it would be cancelled and I would not be charged. I wrote my letter and was still charged for another month of my membership. I continually contact the store to follow up and there is never a manger available to speak. Hope to hear from someone soon.

I've been to just about every gym. Had a membership. Some of them twice. Lifetime is very nice but $140 a month is ridiculous. PF is always clean when I go. Staff is always friendly. The planet fitness at 9425 Jones Road has issues. They can’t repair equipment in a timely manner, there is no one at the front desk early in the mornings half the time and the staff has a lot to be desired. If anyone is at the front desk they just stand around or have their head in a phone. I work out early in the morning and now they are cutting back their hours of operations. Today was the Friday after thanksgiving - they were supposed to open at 5. No one arrived until 5:20 - typical.

I joined Planet Fitness 2 years ago and have had a great experience so far, especially for this location. I love working out in the mornings and it doesn’t get as packed. The facility is always clean and well-maintained, making it a comfortable environment to work out in. Real bad experience here.

It started off well. Until I got ill, a bad client have me a faulty check and my account was closed. I literally almost died at the VA and the VA couldn't do anything to assist there as well. My fees backed up and the manager took a few weeks to get back to me, causing my fees to go up even more! Ast Man Chris tried assisting me in the matter. The GM once I was able to speak to her in person laughed in my face. I was a complete joke to her. I shared that I have proof of my situation from the VA and the bank letter. I couldn't get help and there isn't any corporate number to call either, I've tried. I want to reinstall my membership but now I have to pay an activation fee again when the location should've just froze my account... I was super upset and frustrated by the way they dismissed my situation. I'm not sure what to do.

I have mixed reviews about this place. They’ve got decent equipment they’ve upgraded the treadmills bicycles stair climbers ellipticals so that you can connect with it with your watch or tracking device which is cool. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GET A PLANET FITNESS MEMBERSHIP!!! They charge you an additional $15 if auto pay doesn’t go through and then they will auto draft the money again a few days later. They auto drafted the annual fee from my account but then tried to charge me for the previous month. The way they draft payments it just too confusing for my liking. When attempting to cancel they stated that I had to pay for the previous month even though I just paid the annual fee for the current month.. why don’t they just apply the annual fee to the previous month since I haven’t been to this gym at all this month… idk.. bad business model. Go to crunch or golds gym as they do not have these crazy restrictions. Ps there’s no corporate they can assist with these issues. Sounds like they leave it all to the franchisee… this is honestly a scam of a gym
