I really wanted to like this studio, but my experience here was honestly disappointing. I took a class taught by Aanie and left feeling embarrassed instead of encouraged. She gave my friends plenty of positive feedback but somehow managed to make me feel singled out and dumb for something as small as not having the “correct foot out.” It wasn’t constructive, it was condescending. I’m not paying for a class just to leave feeling smaller than when I walked in.

What made things worse was how uneven her feedback was. She kept praising my friends but didn’t acknowledge me a single time, even though I was genuinely trying. I come to class to feel good and challenged, not to be talked down to. The whole energy just felt off.

On top of that, my friend and I had an uncomfortable interaction with an older white lady (she said she was either the owner or manager, I don’t remember exactly). The way she spoke to us felt… different. I’m a Persian woman, and my friend is Indian, and we both got the same vibe. It wasn’t overt, but there was definitely that tone of talking down to us that didn’t seem to be used with other clients. At first I questioned myself, but my friend said she felt the same way. That alone says a lot.

I hope they take this seriously, because no one should feel discriminated against or belittled in a workout class.

Never thought a Barre class would have you sweating. Every instructor I've had had no problem ensuring you were using the proper form. Cant wait til my next class great location to the Medical Center.

I tried to avoid leaving a negative review, but my experience with this location has been unprofessional and frustrating. I signed up through One Pass on January 3 and followed up on January 6 when I didn’t hear back. For two months (8 paid class credits), I was told conflicting information—first, that they weren’t sure if they accepted One Pass (despite other nearby locations doing so), then that only a manager could enroll me and that it would be taken care of “within 48 hours.” That never happened, even after multiple polite follow-ups.

As a final attempt, I reached out on Instagram and received a response within minutes only to be blocked after the conversation. That confirmed what I suspected: they never intended to enroll me and chose to waste my time instead. It seems this studio doesn’t actually want to accept OnePass and instead of just being upfront, they decided to keep bread-crumbing me. I was always respectful and patient, despite being fully within my rights to express frustration.

Unfortunately, the negative reviews about this location’s lack of professionalism seem to be accurate. If they simply told One Pass, I would’ve stopped trying. They are not obligated to take anything. I would’ve even considered getting a four pack directly with this location as I left one pass recently but I’m only considering Heights or Tanglewood now. Wasting my time, lying to my face, and blocking me to avoid taking accountability is just unprofessional and short sighted.

I’ve reported the issue to One Pass and will continue going to other locations that actually value their members. If you’re considering this studio, I recommend looking elsewhere, S. Voss, Studemont, or even Lifetime offer much better experiences.

Not sure if she the owner but there’s this lady who acts as if she owns the place went in to see what’s it’s about since I’m new to the area and she was giving KAREN! like I owed her something when I’m simply considering joining the place! Now I rather take my business to a different brand because this was definitely a poor experience of management! 0 out of 10 i wouldn’t recommend this location. Maybe others if you’re into it. Definitely not this one

I have been going to Pure Barre at the West U location for a little over 9 months and LOVE it! I have a knee injury and have not only been able to get in shape again but my knee feels 1000% better due to the types of exercises in these classes. I have also seen great results in the rest of my body too. My body feels so much stronger and aligned and…best of all, injury free! Also the mind body connection of Pure Barre is so helpful with mental health!

As far as this location itself, it is amazing. It is such a positive and friendly environment from all the clients, the owner Erin, and the instructors. Being around this group of people is something I look forward to every day. It is more than just a workout place. It is a community that was welcoming from day one!

I have found the communication with Erin timely, transparent, and helpful. The cancellation policies etc. do not seem any different than any other fitness program and are clearly communicated upon signing up. Erin has always helped me in a timely way if I have an issue with the “app.” As far as the parking goes, there are two parking spaces out front, but there is also free (I think 2 hour?) parking along the street across from it. There is also a parking garage about a block away. Perhaps because I live in the area, I was familiar with these options but would want others to also know in case you’re reading this review. There is a “no late” policy, which is great because it allows for no distractions during the workout and keeps you safe from unintentionally getting kicked or something when walking in! This is clearly communicated and I believe is a national company policy. I think most fitness classes are similar with their classes and this is not unique to either Pure Barre or to this location specifically. Cancellation policy is 4 hours before a class…I think OTF is something like 8 hours? My point is that their policies are in line if not better than other boutique fitness centers.

In summary, I LOVE this place for the workout AND the community. Everything has been transparent, ethical, and positive. Thank you to Erin and all the Pure Barre instructors for changing my life!

I walked in at 10:01 for a 10 AM class. Because there’s no parking and I had to drive around to find a place. I’m a middle-aged, overweight, Indian woman. When I walked in, she looked at me very clearly like I did not belong there. And said I was too late for the class and couldn’t join it even though I was literally one minute late. The most unwelcoming place you will ever find unless you have the perfect skin color and body weight and shape. Not a place to get fit. Just a place to feel terrible about yourself.

This place sucks. I was hoping to get some challenging and good workouts but unfortunately they were not good at all. No wonder the classes were almost empty. They will often cancel the classes an hour before because they didn’t get enough people. On top of that, after I canceled my membership they kept charging me for months. I hope our community will soon realize how unethical this place is.

This place is the worst! Expect to spend more time trying to cancel your membership than you ever do working out. Their customer support is so bad you will have to cancel your credit card to stop the charges.

I like the other locations better, they didn't let me join the class after 2 minutes late but I spent those two minutes trying to park. Which they saw. There's only two parking spaces in front of the studio.

I absolutely love Pure Barre. I've had a great experience each time I go and love the flexibility of both West U and River Oaks. Every instructor I've encountered is kind, greets me by name, and wants to ensure I get my workout in! Erin, the owner, is an instructor herself and does a wonderful job managing the studios. 48 classes down, and I look forward even more.

Wouldn’t come again.

Kind of sad. Really liked barre elsewhere. Just not here.

Unfortunately, unlike we discussed, you didn’t need to have control over Class Pass credits to tell me your $15 intro class policy the first time I came in person. I was told my class can be rescheduled on your end- not through Class Pass- or I wouldn’t have scheduled the second time slot on my calendar. Don’t think the miscommunication / non-transparency was done with malicious intent- there just might be a better system that allows for flexibility and respect of everyone’s time.

Pure Barre credit was not offered to me. I was told when I arrived the second time that I can pay $15 for an intro class, and that’s it. Would’ve gladly paid had it been an upfront cost the first time I was there (long drive to get there), just didn’t love / appreciate the non-transparency.

STAY AWAY!! This place & people are your worst nightmare!! Everyone here is out for your money and don't care about client satisfactory or anything. If you have an emergency or are sick (child, family or pet) you will get FINED!! The owner and staff all have an excuse for everything & I'm I'm sure they will post a response with some kind of "come back vs. Trying to be professional".

The staff will hold your credit card & you hostage. They don't explain that your in a long term contract with multiple hidden fees. Instead they will try to target and threaten you by adding more charges to your account. God FORBID you show up or have any happen in your life outside of this COMPOST PILE, because they will try to fine you!! The lack of support or empathy with the staff & owner is pathetic. They are rude and will try to attack you with more charges when trying to cancel or end your membership. The OWNER must have a strong hold on the staff because for there $15hr front desk job they are all willing to take the owners side & treat you like trash.

Not if but when the owner has something to say be aware you can reach out to me personally.....I don't play that West U coddled game. I DON'T have times for weasel, snake oil, fake, liar, used car salesman games yall play. Talk to me 1 on 1 and we'll see what happens (you'll have a yoga matt shoved up your tuckus). Any time, any where, any place any day!!

Beware the scam that is this studio.

I have been to Pure Barre classes all over the country and this is the only location that has scammed me by signing me up monthly. I assumed the charges were from my local DENVER studio. I have never even lived in Houston.

I have been to the West U studio a number of times while visiting my brother and each time purchased an individual class an online using my CC.

When I notified the owner that I was not a monthly member I was told “too bad — you signed up for it!” and — and I quote —“[w]e highly discourage clients from purchasing online so that we can go over all of these items with you and there is no misunderstanding”.

Please point out to me where on the website it discourages one from signing up for an individual class online? And given the obvious — and apparently ANTICIPATED error, what sort of ethical business refuses a refund?

I’m so sick of people taking advantage of me because they CAN.

I encourage you to pursue barre but if you must do so at this studio be aware of the ethical makeup of the owner.

I've been committed now to PB West University (and it's recently acquired
sister studio in River Oaks ) for almost 5 years. The Pure Barre regimen allows for strength building, toning, cardio and stretch if you utilize the three formats offered. There is a curated atmosphere that exists at West U and River Oaks of great energy, quality instruction, upbeat music and encouragement. I particularly appreciate that fresh routines and challenges are introduced regularly. These studios have many devoted long standing customers, so its quite like two neighborhood communities of fitness enthusiasts, composed of all ages, sizes, life positions and abilities. Recently I have mixed in other forms of exercise to complement my daily Pure Barre classes and am seeing further results- mostly in calorie burning and heart rate. I can highly recommend the studios for low impact, focused ways to exercise mind and body with pleasure and the surround of amazing people.

It was a disappointment for me and my boyfriend because of their strict 5-min policy and the laidback attitude. The owner locked us out of the studio for a few minutes even when she saw us. Then she slowly walked out and let us get to the front desk, explaining that we could not take the class because we were late and no refund would be available. Due to this awful experience, we would not come back again.

Absolutely love this place! The instructors and staff are very friendly. It's a great, low impact workout and you start seeing results in as little as 7 classes. I was a little worried about rejoining after the lockdown ended but was immediately put to ease after seeing the safety measures. They have stations for everyone, 6 ft apart, complete with equipment and storage bins. After each class you wipe down your mat and equipment and then the staff sanitizes it again after everyone leaves. It's a complete in-studio experience but without putting yourself or anyone else at risk. 10/10 would recommend⭐💯

Pure Barre is the first workout that has managed to keep me committed for more than 6 months. At first I was skeptical and started off with 1-2 classes per week, but soon I got hooked. It felt tough the first couple of months, especially postpartum. The pandemic lockdown also set me back a little. Going in person definitely motivates me more, even though Pure Barre does a great job providing at home solutions. Nonetheless, slowly but surely Pure Barre team at WU pulled me through to normalcy and beyond. Thank you and keep up the great work!

I love this studio so much. Teachers are great and very personable. Everyone wants everyone to be their very best! Modifications are explained when needed during the class, as well as lots of personal motivation from the teachers. Pure Barre West U is just an overall great way to create the very best mind-body connection and self-care. You won't be disappointed. And if you are someone like me who gets concerned with parking when going to places, there is free 2 hour garage parking right across the street!

Whatever you do do not sign the year contract with this company a couple of months ago I moved to Houston and was excited to get started on my fitness journey and walked into this location where the girls were very nice and energetic that interested me in a year contract with a first month no payment and then 169 every month after that I quickly realized that that was entirely too much money and I didn’t have enough time to go to the unlimited package so I called with interest to do a smaller package because I no longer could afford that and they told me I would have to pay $250 to cance WITH A 30 day notice to cancel my membership and had the AUDACITY to tell me they TOLD ME THAT WHEN I SIGNED UP which is a LIE because who would sign up for a gym that requires that type of cancellation fee and the sad part is is that all I wanted to do was pick a membership for less money and now all of this is happening so please take warning from me the gym is fine the girls are nice but the prices are not worth it and what I’m having to go through right now is not worth it.

Beware of their super strict 5-minute late policy! I fought peak traffic at 4 on friday, got stuck in traffic, drove for 30 mins and was glad to just make it for my 4:30 PM class. Pure Barre does not have enough parking so I ended up paying for parking at Rive Village. I entered the studio at 4:35 and was informed that I just missed their 5 min grace period even I was right on dot. She did not let me take the class nor did she re-imburse my Class Pass credits.

I was upset that the studio valued their strict policy over a client who put so much effort to work out. I would have still understood if I was really late but to be on dot 5 minutes late and be denied admission was ridiculous. I am a DEFINE Barre fanatic and wanted to give this studio a chance - not happening again!

I love this place. The workouts are hard but not intense cardio where you feel like you are dying after 45 minutes. Do not get me wrong they are hard but not a miserable hard. You work every part of your body during these workouts. This Barr technique sculpts your muscles without adding bulk. It is great for the legs, butt, core, abs and arms. It took me about 5 classes to get the muscle isolation down. If you do these classes 5-7 times you will be hooked. I am moving out of the country and I am dreading leaving West U Barr. The instructors are great and the ladies who attend the classes are nice and inviting. I will greatly miss these classes and the ladies. Thank you West U Barr!
