Recess Fitness Club has been an incredible experience from day one. Jason and Ryne are truly outstanding trainers knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely invested in helping you hit your goals. Their coaching style makes every session productive and enjoyable. The facility itself is always spotless, well-organized, and clearly cared for. You can tell they take pride in maintaining a clean, comfortable environment. What really stands out, though, is the staff’s engagement. They don’t treat you like just another customer; they connect with you, encourage you, and make you feel like part of the community. It’s a place where you’re welcomed, supported, and pushed to be your best.Highly recommend Recess Fitness Club!

I’ve been training at Recess for a while now, and honestly, it feels like a luxury gym in every sense. The equipment, the layout, the atmosphere everything is top tier. What really sets this place apart, though, is the coaching. Working with Jason has been a game changer for me. He’s helped transform me both physically and mentally, and he’s really helped me develop a strong gym mentality. I’ve dropped over 30 pounds and gained a ton of strength along the way. His training style matches my energy perfectly, and it’s clear he holds himself to a seriously high standard. Ryne, Maddie, Taylor, Paul, and Chris are absolute leaders in this gym. They set the tone every single day, and there’s genuinely nothing I can complain about here.If you’re thinking about joining, don’t be intimidated. Ask the fitness manager for a tour or book a session with a trainer to get familiar with the equipment. Everyone there had a “day one” too.Joining Recess has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health, and I’d recommend it to any guy looking to level up mentally and physically.

After a year of being a member, this is a an amazing gym with top notch equipment and detail. First, I will say that have done a great job at making the consistent updates. Over the year, they have made steady upgrades all over. From the equipment, all black tuff (looks way better), lights, etc.

In addition, the people I have met at the front desk are great and extremely genuine. Nancy, Kam, Marshall, Kade, and plenty more are just some names that have made me for sure feel welcomed. Next, the members are top notch. I have met over 10+ people by name and even got the chance to call some of them friends. But at the same time, I am able to still mange to get an good training session in and progress my fitness goals.

I do not need fitness training or personal trainer but both Jason, Lilly, and Luis are VERY knowledge. Never on their phones, helping with form, and some even track their progress via pencil and paper to track their progression.

I have never been fined for a $50 fine but from a business perspective, it makes sense. Employees having to strip 45+ lbs because they forgot would be annoying (I worked at a gym) and it keeps everyone on the same page. I gotten to the point where I accidentally racked one of owners weight one time after he got up in conversation, we laughed it off because I'm sure he knew everyone is on the same page.

No, they do not know I am writing this nor have I spoken to the owners or mangers often. There is no biases here.

This gym is clean, well-run, and the sunset view is cool. I moved back to Dallas in July and go to the gym 4x weekly, so I wanted to find someplace I enjoy. I visited every gym within a 15-mile radius, but nothing else offered the same clean, energetic feel as Recess. Also, having been a fitness facility owner, I understand what it takes to run a place like this. So yes, here and there are the inevitable little hiccups that people create, but they are addressed and solved quickly. Great equipment and vibe all around—plus a sauna and cold plunge! Love it.

After a long bout of inactivity I was very intimated to join a gym again. I decided to try personal training with Lily Wolens and could not be more satisfied with my experience. Lily is amazing - very knowledgeable, incredibly encouraging and knows exactly how to meet you where you’re at. If you’re looking to make the leap, I could not recommend Lily more. She’s the best to learn from and grow with in your health journey!

I used to really love this gym — the facility is great. But recently I found out my membership price jumped from $89 to $149/month without my knowledge. I never got a clear notification, even though the gym texts me weekly promo messages. Something that major should be communicated just as clearly as marketing messages.

On top of that, I had an incident where a trainer accidentally dropped a weight and it smashed my work phone. Accidents happen, but there was very little follow-up or support afterward from the gym itself.

Between the unexpected rate increase and the lack of accountability with the phone situation, I left feeling really disappointed after being a loyal member. I hope they improve communication and how they handle situations like this in the future.

Pros:
Decent equipment and a friendly community of members.

Cons:
The gym closes early on weekends (6 PM).
The space itself is relatively small.
There’s a $50 fee for not re-racking weights.
Membership fees have increased several times.
Music volume can be distracting at times.
Management decisions are inconsistent and overly personal, and some members have reportedly had their memberships canceled after posting constructive feedback.

Recess is an incredible gym! The trainers are all super healthy, energetic, and genuinely inspiring. Every member I’ve met has been kind, positive, and just happy to be there, it makes every workout feel better.

The whole environment is upbeat and full of good energy, and there’s plenty of space to move around without feeling crowded. The gyms music is always current and meets the energy of that hour. You can tell it’s a place built for people who love taking care of themselves. Couldn’t recommend it more!

I’ve been a member at Recess for a little over a year and have really enjoyed this gym, the top notch equipment, and the community. It can be intimidating to start something new but if you decide to join I recommend either asking the fitness manager to show you around or booking a session or two with a trainer to help you get to know the equipment. Just remember that everyone there walked into the gym for the first time at some point too!
The staff is very friendly and the gym is nice and clean. It can get busy at night but I’ve never had problems getting a good workout in.
When I started working out at Recess I decided to hire a trainer because I needed to lose weight and get back in shape and I felt that working with a trainer would expedite the process. The fitness manager met with me to discuss what I was looking for and he paired me with Jason. Jason’s style of training matches my energy and has been very effective…. to date I’ve lost almost 60 pounds and my body is becoming completely transformed. I’ve gotten to know many of the trainers at Recess and they are all fantastic….they are held to high standards and truly care about their clients.
Overall joining Recess has been a fantastic experience which I highly recommend!

I originally lowered my rating because staff members made my wife uncomfortable by staring and acting in a way that felt disrespectful. That kind of behavior isn’t something I tolerate, especially in a place meant for focus and discipline.

One of the individuals involved never owned up to it, which I don’t respect. However, another staff member did apologize, and I appreciate when someone steps up and takes responsibility. On top of that, the Fitness Director personally reached out, apologized face-to-face, and handled the situation professionally.

Owning up and apologizing isn’t easy, and I respect when people do the right thing. Because management addressed this seriously and demonstrated strong accountability, I’m updating my rating to 4 stars. Thanks for stepping up and keeping this a respectable place. All love.

Recess has an awesome environment and is easily one of the best gyms in Dallas. They are always upgrading the equipment and amenities to give members the best experience possible. The interior is beautiful and creates an atmosphere that makes every workout something to look forward to. The staff is friendly and genuinely cares about the members. It’s the perfect place to work on yourself and surround yourself with people with the same mindset!

This gym has potential, but management decisions have made it frustrating to be a member. Monthly fees keep increasing, seemingly to fund the effort to turn it into an “influencer gym.” The water is frequently shut off for maintenance, leaving members without restrooms or fountains for long stretches. They also impose steep fines — for example, $50 if a dumbbell isn’t re-racked perfectly. Much of the equipment appears secondhand and heavily used, likely acquired from the 24 Hour Fitness bankruptcy with a “Recess” sticker slapped on it. With better management and upkeep, this could actually be a solid place to train. Sad.

Insanely nice facilities. But I chose this gym when traveling because it said there was a sauna and cold plunge. The sauna is super small and is posted to stay at 110° which is not even warm for a sauna. The cold plunge was closed the day I visited. The two reasons I came were kind of a let down.

I really do like this gym - they have great equipment and clean amenities however I do believe they have outgrown the space. The afternoons are extremely crowded. Recess is a great gym. It is accessible and the staff are great. I work out with a personal trainer, Jason Mulvaney. Jason is superb, he is attentive and very knowledgeable. He ensures I have a challenging work out but also ensures I don’t hurt myself. He pushes me and works on my nutrition and eating habits. I am 58 and have had some health issues, but Jason is keeping me fit and ensuring I work on all of my needs. I have had many trainers and Jason is by far the best, and the environment at Recess and the entire the staff are fabulous.

I cannot recommend Lily Wolens enough! She was my personal trainer at Recess Fitness Club in Dallas from May to September, helping me get ready for my wedding, and the experience was truly amazing. Lily created a comprehensive program that was not only effective during our sessions but also provided me with a clear plan to follow on my own (workout and diet).

From the very beginning, she took the time to understand my specific goals and focus areas, especially my arms. She was fantastic at adjusting our program as we went along to make sure I stayed on track and felt challenged. I felt so comfortable and confident on my wedding day, and I received so many compliments on how sculpted my arms looked. It was exactly the result I was hoping for!

Beyond her expertise as a trainer, Lily and I became friends over the four months, and she even attended my wedding, which meant so much to me. She is a dedicated and caring professional who goes above and beyond for her clients. If you're looking for a trainer who will help you reach your goals while making the process fun and enjoyable, Lily is the perfect person!

This gym is money-hungry first, people second. I tried Recess Fitness in Dallas this summer on a month-to-month membership, and my experience was disappointing. In my very first week, I was charged $50 for not putting plates away. Later I found out this isn’t just a one-time penalty — employees actually make money off of every person they catch not re-racking weights, which feels like a built-in money grab.
What makes it worse is that the policy isn’t even consistent. Some employees are nice and will just put the weights away without making a big deal, while others are quick to enforce the fine. That means it comes down to which employee is watching, making it very biased and unfair.
On top of that, even though it’s a “month-to-month” membership, they still require a 30-day cancellation notice. So now I’m getting charged for a month I won’t even be here since I’m moving — which just shows how ironic and money-driven their system is.
Overall, the gym comes across as more focused on finding ways to charge members than on creating a fair, consistent, and positive fitness experience. If you’re considering joining, I’d recommend asking detailed questions upfront.

Really bad staff attitude and not helped by poor ownership. I was accused of slamming weights which I didn’t do and even if I did, the way it was handled was heavy handed. I was asked to stop going there. The gym was built on a top floor. If you deadlift you may drop your weight at times. Owner brings is dog in and lets him roam around the floor. During the winter they didn’t turn the heat on so you are working in ice cold temperatures. They have these lockers that have a built in combination and most times the door would be open but locked so the locker couldn’t be used. I told them about this and their solution was to charge people for personal lockers. Going to a gym should be convenient, friendly, and affordable. These days you pay more for less. They got a red light sauna after I joined. Outside of that it’s a regular gym with rough parking. I wish I could say that their was better but Dallas is struggling in this area which allows gyms like this to seem like it’s more than it is.

I have received 9 texts in 12 months asking me for a review. After a year of being a member at Recess, here’s my opinion:

I no longer live in Dallas, moved to Mexico for work & medical needs months into my membership which you cannot cancel. I went maybe twice or 3 times a month max.

PROS: I go around 12-1pm, usually not packed which I loved. The first floor was my usual workout spot as it’s rarely more than one person there, great for introverts.
-Gym is constantly changing/updating.
-Other members are cool & respectful of everyone’s space. I recommended this gym to my clients who joined. (Regretting it now)
-The only staff I enjoyed working with were the trainers in class, Steven or Stefan and another yoga instructor (no longer there). They were very helpful & friendly, not standoffish like others.

Before I start, im aware of what I signed when I joined. I have read the responses to other non-five star reviews which doesn’t align with their promise to constantly take feedback, meet members’ needs, etc etc. Wouldn’t be a surprise to get a condescending ego driven response like the rest did lol

CONS:
-When I signed up online there was a special going on with each membership the imitation fee of $100 was waived. I chose the daytime membership. Nancy at the front desk couldn’t find it in their system and denied that I signed up. She asked to see the confirmation email which I provided to her but it wasn’t enough. She said the waived fee was only for the more expensive membership which she had me sign up for instead. At first I didn’t think $10 more was a huge deal but didn’t like the interaction and being accused of lying. A “glitch” in the system is not my fault.

- Another incident was with Nancy again unfortunately. Like I mentioned before, things are always changing in the gym. I couldn’t locate the boxes for an exercise so I walked to the other end of the gym where I found a few. Took it to my area and when I was done, I walked over and put it back where the other set of boxes closer to me were. Same boxes, different area. I still put my equipment away and wiped it down. Later on I see Nancy walking the box back over where I initially got it from. I laughed and apologized for not putting it in the same exact place. She scolded me for it as if I was a child and said my account will be flagged but next time it’s a for sure $50 charge. 2 other members overheard & were shocked as well. It was unprofessional but from what ive read and seen myself, it comes to no surprise. I could never speak to another adult, let alone a paying member like that.
-I use to follow the Instagram account til I saw a video clip of their podcast where a guy tells an owner he has big dick energy. It really threw me off. Everyone is entitled to their own preferences and can choose when and how to feel validated. Again, ego driven. Not my cup of tea. This gym is great for those with the same mindset, just wasn’t for me.

Visited here with a buddy. Great location clean and nice machines. The only thing I would change would be a 1-2 less machines in each area. Specially near the 2 bench presses. I noticed the member next to me on the bench presses seated machine had to move his feet everything I would rack and unrack my weights on the bench. Other than that I thought it was awesome that they greeted my buddy by his first name. The woman at the front desk with tattoos was nice and helpful.

I also like the idea of if you don’t rerack your weights that you charge the people. I think it would be cool however for those that are busy to charge a premium member fee/plan where you don’t have to rerack your weights.

Great club loved the metal and goth vibe was super cool.

Very disrespectful company, they harrass their members at home with phone calls and marketing texts when they did not ask for them, on more than one occasion there have been women in the mens locker room "assisting" the owner, not cleaning the locker room, but spraying the owner with spray tan, leaving the other members with no privacy forcing actual members to leave without being able to use the fascilities. Over all very low quality response from the staff, they treat you like you should be grateful to exisit in their presence and do not treat you with respect. They also seem to fail to consider, that just because you can put something invasive in a contract. Does not mean you should. I reacted poorly to an unsolicited marketing text in the middle of the work day, and I did in fact cuss the owner out after he called me, again unsolicited as a follow up to the original unsolicited texts. He did not "stay calm and respectful" for the conversation and urged me to "come down here" to "settle things like men" which is beyond unprofessional and goes into the unhinged. Be very careful signing up for this gym.

I’ve been a member at Recess Fitness Club for a while now, and while the facility itself has some standout features, there are a number of serious concerns that potential members should be aware of.

First, let’s start with the positives. The gym has a sleek, modern aesthetic and high-quality equipment. The atmosphere looks inviting and aspirational—something many boutique gyms aim for. I also want to recognize that there are a few staff members who are genuinely friendly and helpful.

However, my overall experience hasn’t been the best . The culture at Recess feels rigid and overly controlled. There’s an almost obsessive focus on enforcing minor rules, which gives the impression that management prioritizes control over member comfort. Signs in the bathroom with odd, borderline insulting language (“Don’t use too much toilet paper, you Yeti”) give off an unprofessional and frugal tone that leaves a bad taste.

The ownership, particularly Taylor, comes across as more concerned with appearances and attention seeking rather than substance.
Transitioning, some staff members are problematic. A few staff members have been outright rude or dismissive. For example, Brittney’s attitude towards me is consistently negative. I’ve been very polite, but she’s always negative. Her attitude is extremely poor. Additionally, Jason tends to focus more on socializing with female gym-goers than doing his actual job. This kind of behavior doesn’t reflect well on the professionalism of the establishment.

Furthermore, My son had a particularly unpleasant experience with a personal training session led by Luis. Rather than feeling supported or coached, he felt uncomfortable. Luis appeared more focused on asserting dominance than actually coaching. My son, who is still in high school, came home asking what he could’ve possibly done to make Luis “size him up.” That kind of behavior toward a teenager is completely inappropriate and reflects a serious lack of professionalism.

Overall, the gym could be a great place, but it’s being held back by mediocre leadership, inconsistent staff behavior, and a lack of self-awareness from management. I hope the owners take a more honest look at how the gym is being run and prioritize member experience over micromanagement and frugality.

Im prepared to face the wrath of the owner after writing this...do NOT join this gym. I'm sure they will reply saying some crazy stuff about how it's all my fault...just take a look at the low reviews' replies from the business to them. So incredibly rude and disrespectful. I wasted $3k at this place. Bought personal training sessions, used some of them and then had two bouts of health issues (stitches on my back and then emergency appendix surgery) and they wouldn't let me use all of my sessions id bought bc I missed the window to use them bc of my surgeries. Terrible place.

I came here previously when it was a 24 Fitness and recently got a week pass to try out the new Recess gym. I can say, the price is a little bit higher compared to the cheapest gyms, but this gym is designed to be luxurious, so the workout experience is very comfortable.

1. Gym is large and well-decorated. There is a lot of attention to detail to the overall aesthetics of the space. Seems like the owner invested a lot when building the gym
2. Wide variety of equipment (free weights, machines, squat racks, benches etc) and everything is in working order. Lot of fancy machines which I haven't seen in other gyms.
3. Gym area is clean and well-organized, and the bathrooms are very clean as well
4. There is an outdoor area with a squat rack, bench, and turf. Even on very hot days, the outdoor area is relatively tolerable to work out in due to the breeze from being on the top floor, and the fan
5. Nice skyline views while working out, since it's on the top floor
6. Price (for weekly pass) is higher than other gyms, so you are definitely paying for the cleanliness and aesthetics
7. Parking seems to be limited to 2 hours and garage has some people loitering
8. Gets very crowded after 4pm, but pretty chill during the daytime (12pm-3pm)
9. They seem strict about the $50 fines, given how there are warning signs posted literally everywhere in the gym, so pay attention to that
10. Staff is very attentive
11. There is a cold plunge, but I didn't use it
12. Towel service is provided for the shower, bring your own lock for the lockers
13. Fancy filtered water machines

I had been considering finding a new gym and trying personal training when I remembered that one of my old F45 coaches now works at Recess (shout out to Rachael - she is awesome). After reading about Recess online, I got excited and signed up for a personal training consultation.

Paul was absolutely amazing during my consultation. He really listened to me and showed that he genuinely cared about and wanted to support my personal fitness journey.

Beyond my first impressions of Recess and initial conversation with Paul, everyone at the gym has been very welcoming and kind. This is so important when joining a new gym because it can sometimes feel intimidating.

I am beyond lucky to have been paired with Lily as my personal trainer for the past couple months. She is everything you would want in a trainer and more. She has a wealth of knowledge in fitness and training, and she does a great job at coaching me through each exercise. She also helps me make minor adjustments to get the most out of each movement. Lily’s level of preparation for our workouts goes above and beyond. She documents my progress carefully and is very thoughtful in how she structures each session. Lily is also extremely supportive and celebrates each of my wins, no matter how ‘big’ or ‘small’. She brings so much joy to the gym and I genuinely have the best time working out with her. I would recommend her to ANYBODY - Lily is simply the best.

On top of all that, the facilities at Recess are so nice. The equipment is new and well maintained, and everyone really respects the space. I haven’t been in another gym like this.

10/10 recommend Recess and I am so glad that I joined!

Been a member for 2 years I really like & enjoyed working out here everyday it was one of the best gyms I been so far but not anymore all that changed in one day .never had an issue or problem before, I recently got my membership cancelled just because I changed the song of the gym , didn’t think it would be a big deal but turns out it was a huge deal for them and ended up giving b.s excuses like , I messed up the surround sound, their system was down , I cause a technical issue, and so on. Like cmon be foreals . All that for changing a song ? Not even a warning or anything just straight up kick me out like if I was trash or never existed .After all the new members I brought in & day passes I bought ? This is how they treat their loyal members? And to top it all off , I seen people doing the same exact thing I did but the only difference they were white and I was Hispanic. And they’re still at the gym like nothing happened but when I did it I got cancelled for it and not them . I never did felt wanted or welcomed since the first day I set foot in there.

PRIVACY VIOLATIONS.

I had multiple concerning experiences regarding locker room privacy at this gym. On one occasion, two female front desk staff entered the men's locker room while I was changing, which made me extremely uncomfortable. When I spoke to the owner about this, he dismissed my concerns and said this was normal practice when male staff aren't available (which is ridiculous because he's a male staff member and seemed available) mentioning some 'red light system' as if that makes it acceptable. I was never informed about this policy when I joined.

On another occasion, I was locked out of my locker and a female employee insisted on entering the men's locker room to help, despite a male staff member offering to handle it instead. The male employee had to intervene and told me directly that her behavior was inappropriate.

These incidents show a serious lack of proper protocols and staff training around basic privacy expectations. A gym should have clear boundaries about opposite-gender staff entering locker rooms, especially when members are changing. I've been to many gyms and the DFW area and none of them have had this issue. The dismissive attitude from management when these concerns were raised is equally problematic.

I expect basic privacy and professionalism at a gym I'm paying for. Unfortunately, this location fails to meet those standards.
Despite enjoying the gym overall, I'm deeply disappointed in this behavior. I will continue to go here and will not be taking down this review until something changes and a proper policy is put in place.

This place is great. I recently moved to Las Vegas and I have yet to find a gym and nice as Recess. The staff is highly professional and knowledgeable. The lockerooms are always clean, and the equipment is all in the right places.

P.S I didn’t mind the $50 dollar fine for not re-racking weights. It keeps us all accountable. So yeah, re-rack your weights.

**update to 1 star from 3 **

The owner thought it was appropriate to text me personally and told me to take down the review cause I was being “performative and emotional”. Ironic no?. Glad they felt strongly enough to cancel my membership cause I couldn’t fathom going a place where they think it’s necessary to bully you into taking a review down. Seems like he has a habit of writing back condescending responses to negative reviews. Lol beware!

Echoing what another member has recently said - I used to really enjoy this gym. To preface, I’ve been a member at this gym for 2 years and counting and have always cleaned up after myself (wiped down machines, re-rack weights, etc.) but made the honest mistake of forgetting to rack a plate on a newer machine. I was immediately fined $50 with no warning or conversation. I understand this is a policy necessary to maintain the gym however, it makes sense to fine repeat offenders but feels punitive for long time members who forget in a one-off instance. I agree with others who say the culture here has changed. I feel like I’m being nickel and dimed so they can fund their ever ongoing renovations (their membership rates have gone up significantly as well). Overall, the gym itself is great however, this recent experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I will be going here until my contract expires (they have a very strict no cancellation policy) but I will not be renewing. This is no longer a gym I will be recommending to others.

These people are absolutely insane and will send you into collections over a gym membership when you have made very clear communication about ending your membership (I moved out of DFW area and the state alltogether). You're better off finding a more understanding gym and skipping the hassle. Everyone is aware of how hard sometimes it is to cancel a gym membership, this was the absolute worst of the worst, it's unethical and bad business practice, I strongly suggest to find somewhere else, all the pretty equipment and aesthetics aren't worth having to dispute a collections hit on your credit, hope this saves one of you a headache!

I joined Recess around January of this year (not because I'm a resolutioner) when I followed my current trainer from our last gym (his name is Taylor and he's one of the best trainers I've had in 15 years of working with coaches).

Immediately, you can tell from walking in, that this place cares about their aesthetics and cleanliness. This is a true boutique gym with all the right substance to make it great. Almost everyone in the gym is really ridiculously goodlooking (I don't count myself among that population, which is why I say "almost").

They just started replacing some machines, so I'm excited to see what comes in and replaces the old (but functional, and not froo froo) stuff.

My only complaint is that the current hip adductor and hip abductor machines only go up to 190 (I can full stack those in my sleep, so I have to do 4 sets of 20 to get any kind of burn).

All in all, the gym is worth it. I am sad to say it took me entirely too long to join.

I initially gave this gym a 5-star rating because I truly love the atmosphere and the sense of community. The facility is always clean, and the front desk staff are incredibly friendly. I've been a dedicated member for over two years, consistently doing my part to maintain the gym's environment.

However, I feel compelled to lower my rating due to a recent experience that left me disappointed. I was unexpectedly charged $50 for forgetting to re-rack my weights. While I acknowledge my responsibility in this matter, the amount felt excessive, especially considering my history of helping keep the gym organized, even during busy times. This time I just genuinely forgot. I’m human.

It would have been appreciated if there had been a warning or a conversation about this before imposing a charge. I reached out to the gym for clarification, but unfortunately, I didn’t receive a response. While I did sign a contract acknowledging this policy, a simple verbal reminder would have made a significant difference.

I've been patient with the gym during its remodeling, and I’ve continued my membership even after friends left due to changes in the culture. This recent incident has left me feeling undervalued as a member. As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of providing respectful and kind service, and I hope this gym can adopt a more compassionate approach to its policies in the future.

I genuinely wish for the best for this gym, but I can’t ignore how this experience has impacted my perception. I hope to see improvements in member communication and support moving forward.

Truly one of the best gyms in the DFW area. The people, the owners, the staff, the location, the vibe, the equipment — all of it is amazing. It’s the kind of place you’re proud to be a member of because everyone genuinely cares about each other and the gym itself.

That said, I’m giving it a 3-star rating because of a recent experience where I was fined for not racking my weights. I had left 45s on the hack squat machine — something I’ve never been fined for at any other gym. I understand that not racking weights can be inconsiderate, especially if someone is a repeat offender. But in this case, it was an honest mistake. I wiped down the machine and simply forgot to re-rack the plates. No warning was given, and within 10 minutes of leaving the gym, I received a $50 fine along with a screenshot of me at the machine.

What bothered me most was learning that the front desk staff are incentivized to catch members not re-racking their weights by receiving half of the fine. That policy gives the gym a bit of a “gotcha” feel, which is disappointing in a place that otherwise feels like a community.

Again, I really do love this gym. If I had been told about the issue, I would’ve gladly driven back to fix it — that’s how much I respect the place and the people. But overall, the policy felt overly harsh and unlike anything I’ve experienced and/or heard of elsewhere.

I’m honestly upset to leave this review because I had such high hopes with this gym….

I signed up with Recess Fitness back in January 2025. I was recently laid off my job in February forcing me to move back to Arkansas. Expecting some sort of empathy I tried communicating with management to see what could be done about cancelling my membership. After 2 months of back and forth email communication (the only way you can speak with them) they won’t let me out of my one year membership. So I will be paying $120/month for the rest of the year to a gym I won’t even be able to work out at. I hope you enjoy my monthly donations Recess lol.

I must also mention that for $120/month you can go to way better gyms than this. It is very compact and forget being able to use a machine during peak hours. The sauna can’t get above 130°, and the cold plunge is hardly ever cold. Oh and if you want to bring a guest, that $120/month your spending is irrelevant. You’ll be spending $25 each time for a guest pass (such a great incentive lol).

If you’re looking for a new gym to go to, don’t waste your time and money on this place. There are much better, more deserving gyms around the area that you will have a much better experience with.

Impressive gym! I purchased their week pass as I was only in the area for a short period of time. I caught a good few days of amazing 70 degree weather and took full advantage of their outdoor turf workout area which gives you a glimpse of skyline. It was not busy during the times I worked out which was great! The cleanliness was impressive. The equipment was in great condition. There was a bit of a nuisance; but I also did not take the time to stop by the desk to help me figure out what was wrong. my information was not recognized in the app to be able to log in, so I could never get my phone to unlock the door. I had to wait until someone came back to the desk and I had to knock to be let in. I was told they were short staffed and so they were on the floors cleaning and picking up. Unsure if you give app access to the weekly pass guests. Thanks for the experience! Top notch gym! If you ever open a Recess Gym in the Pacific Northwest, please let me know!

Recess is everything you want/need, nothing you don’t. It’s a serious gym for serious lifters, with a true focus on etiquette. Racking your weights is not optional.
