I went in to take a tour of the facility because I want to start lifting 2-3 times per week. I made the unfortunate mistake of having my husband tag along. I walk e up said I’d like a tour and the front desk guy says we have to fill out a form first. I introduce myself, the front desk introduced himself to both of us, then proceeds to fill out the form asking My husband his name, asking him if we are married, never looking at me. That’s when u said we are good and left. If they do that as part of the sales cycle, what kind of treatment as a woman will I get going forward??? I’m still reeling! So freaking rude and misogynistic. I will find a different gym!

I've been coming here for over 5 years, never had any issues, and the staff's always friendly. But lately, they haven't had any napkins to clean the machines. It's been 4 days! I hope the manager reads this and keeps up with supplies, it's not sanitary. Put in some effort and make a Walmart run.

I'm been working out at the location for 10 years, and that includes with a personal trainer, even back when that gym was Youfit. The reason why I cancelled my service for personal training, aside from trying to get caught up on my finances, is because I didn't like my last trainer Clarence Hall, and he was the only trainer at the location at the time. His training was good, but since trainers get paid commission for selling products, he was constantly trying to pressure me into buying products. After my very first session with him, he was explaining to me about the benefits of a protein powder that they had, which I appreciate, because it's good to know for future reference. But after he told me about the benefits of the product, he handed me the product and said 'ok, let's get your rung up for it.' He didn't even ask me if I wanted to buy it. When a salesperson explains to a client about a product, they're supposed to at least ask them if they're interested in buying it, giving them a chance to say yes or no. Clarence did not do that.

Also, after our second session, he tried to pressure me into buying a bottle of Gatorade. I told him that I had plenty of Gatorades at my apartment, and that I don't need to buy one. He told me that I should buy it and drink it immediately in case I get a bad cramp when I'm driving home. I have never gotten a cramp while driving the entire 10 years that I worked out with a personal trainer. I told a friend of mine that used to be my trainer a few years ago back when that place was Youfit, and he thought that was bull. No former trainer has ever told me how important it is to have Gatorade right after a session, and I'm sure they would have if it was true. I think Clarence was only trying to get commission. Pressuring clients to purchase products and not asking them if they're interested in buying the product is very unprofessional and trainers will lose clients like that. Clarence constantly tried to pressure me into buying products after every session, and I thought he was very cocky as well. He sent me a text asking him to pass the word around about a deal going on at Retro fitness for personal training sessions. I didn't bother doing that because I didn't want to help him gain more clients. I'm glad that he's no longer working for the company.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that this gym can’t have employees show up and open the gym in the morning. I really hope you don’t plan your day around a morning workout, bc you’ll wake up before the crack of dawn, get to the gym, and be greeted with locked doors and no access to your gym THAT YOU’RE PAYING FOR. I really hope the manager of the Belt Line and Coit location takes responsibility and the leadership team at Retro Fitness finds a way to remedy this situation that happens over and over and over again.

Edit on 9/10/2025: IT HAPPENED AGAIN! If you join this gym, you'll be rolling the dice every morning on whether or not they'll actually be open during business hours. When you wake up before 5AM and head to the gym, you pray there will be lights on and someone will have unlocked the door. B/c once again, I showed up this morning at 5:15AM and the entire place was locked, dark, without a soul inside. It's maddening when you pay for a gym membership and the gym doors aren't open. Once again, I really hope the manager of the Belt Line and Coit location takes responsibility and the leadership team at Retro Fitness finds a way to remedy this situation that happens over and over and over again.

I’ve been coming to this gym now for about five years, under different names. It’s been totally redone, is nice and clean and never crowded when I’m here. I also signed up to do training with Caroline and honestly I am truly enjoying that. She really knows what she’s talking about and is helping me reach my goals.

Another update:
We finally have a manger with an extensive background in running a fitness facility. She is professional, friendly and truly cares for and listens to the members!

UPDATE:Management REFUSES to figure out/work on a solution…They won’t mount the fans on the walls-which would be most effective-nor will they install electrical plugs in the walls of the studio OR provide extension cords or plugs.
None of this is the members’ or instructors’ issue(s) to address.

Do not understand the mentality behind NOT providing fans in Tues/Thurs class at Beltline facility …older demographic-ppl could easily overheat and if anything happens and could be a liability issue for facility. Apparently that does not motivate anyone in management to act proactively.Fans were requested WAY in advance of the hot weather…They finally arrived and due to the fact that there are no wall outlets in the studio the fans are in the storage closet not doing anyone any good. Especially since there are plenty of outlets INSIDE the storage closet BUT the cords on the fans are not long enough to place them IN the studio!
All that is needed is an electrical strip with and an extension cord or two but nobody seems willing or able to “own” this. It is not the instructors’ or class participants’ responsibility to address.

Over all the gym is nice. My one issue is the restrooms/showers are so dirty. I started my membership 2 weeks ago, and the same trash has been on the floor in the showers since then. I did let the receptionist know. I am hoping they will get it cleaned, I joined this particular gym to be able to work out early mornings, shower get ready and head straight to work. But the dirty showers/restrooms are to much.

This is my second visit to this gym, and I'm disappointed with the service I received. I sought assistance for troubleshooting the retro app, but the staff at the counter were unhelpful and seemed completely unaware of how to assist me. What was particularly frustrating was their dismissive attitude, as they outright told me that if I had issues with the app, I should go somewhere else. This level of customer service is unacceptable!

I started my membership here after about 6 months of irritation with the crowds at the Texas Family Fitness up the road (nice facility but way too crowded with high school kids!). Retro was in the process of taking over from the prior owners and renovating the space when I started my membership. They told me about all of the upgrades that they were going to do. I actually didn't care. It looked clean and it wasn't crowded and that is all I really care about. But, I have been pleasantly surprised at the slow, steady transformation of the place over the past several months. The staff is attentive and respectful and the facility appears to be consistently clean. The locker room (the men's) is still in need of updating. BUT, that appears to be slowly happening. The only negative is that the closing hours on the weekends - at this location - are too early.
**After many months my only criticism is the absence of paper towels in the bathroom. I know a hand dryer is cheaper in the long-run but blowing dirty air on my hands is kind of gross and if they aren't going to provide paper towels the staff needs to come in frequently and mop up the standing water on the bath counters. If you inadvertently lean on the counter while washing your hands you will walk away with a horizontal strip of water on your shorts. **

I have been coming here for over a year and they are still having issues with opening on time. The manager needs to be accountable and be the one opening at this point, if they care to keep customers. Waited for an hour this morning before leaving from 5:00 am - 6:00 am, because that’s the only time I have in the day to go to the gym, like many of my other gym goers. I sat in my car this morning watching the regulars from the morning show up and slowly drive away after waiting for awhile. I guess it’s time to leave this gym and head back to Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness.

Update: 11/03/2024 - Final update and rating. After ongoing opening issues (the current issue is that one of the weekday openers rolls in between 5:05am-5:15am on a regular basis while all the early morning exercisers are waiting for him to unlock and get the place open. Then last week we had a day when no one showed period. Based on that and repeated outreach to resolve no reply...thus I've cancelled my membership and joined another local club. Fair warning if you are an early weekday exercise person - skip this specific club (I can't comment on the other locations - they may all be fine on their opening time.)

Update on 09/06/2024 - This location struggles with opening on time during the week (5am is the posted time.) It's become progressively worse the past few months. Opening staff often arrive at 5am or slightly after 5am, and then have to spend a few minutes unlocking, turning lights on, get computers on line, etc. which ends up being more like a 5:10 or later opening time which is problematic for anyone showing up expecting this club to be open at 5am (and has a tight morning schedule.)

In addition to this issue which is pretty constant, there's been a total of three times over the past few months where no one showed up to open period. Or at least by the time I gave up and drove back home. Today it happened again, so I'm updating my review in the hope that this can be resolved or ownership will contact me so I can cancel my membership EASILY and move to another club and then I'll remove these bad reviews.

UPDATE. New owners and apt name considering we have a retro issue. for the second time this week (April 12 and 14) the club is dark at the 5am opening time. No show employee? Other club updates are happening and good. - new equipment and other upgrades but alas If you can’t get in after you drag yourself out of bed on a Friday at 450am to work out it is all for naught.

Chronic issues with staff not showing up during the week for their 5am opening. Is there anything worse than getting out of bed a 445 to work out and arrive to a locked up health club? I Can understand it happening a few times but it’s ongoing issue and the past two weeks has happened four times. Have reached out to the club and have gotten no response. If you are an early morning work out person I’d look at another club. Other than this issue not a bad club. Pretty basic amenities. Staffing seems to be an issue although there are a few team members who are really good. I truly do hate to post a 1 star review but perhaps management will address the issue and I will update.
UPDATE: This seems to be an ongoing battle to hire staff that can show up on time to open. The past month or more there’s been chronic lateness for the opener 5 to 10 minutes after posted opening time and a few no shows (or at least not before I gave up after waiting 15 minutes.) management needs to figure out their scheduling. I’m to the point of cancelling and gong to another club. And if you are looking for one and an early riser on a tight am schedule I’d suggest you rethink this club.

The gym is fine, but be aware of **the conditions in the contract before signing it**. They don’t mention that you will be charged a $53 annual fee 45 days after starting your membership. Additionally, they don’t inform you that if you sign up during the “$0 enrollment promotion,” your membership will automatically renew, and you need to send a cancellation email at least 7 days before your next billing date. These terms should be clearly explained by the staff from the start.

Do not go to these people as I try to cancel my membership and couldn’t because they were not working when there was Covid. Now they decide to say that I owe them money. I was paying them during Covid because they said they needed staff but staff cannot cancel my membership. This place is such a rip off. They are struggling for money. I would definitely choose another gym, such as planet fitness. Plus working out in a positive environment is very important to your growth and this does not display a positive environment. Definitely go to another gym where you can be in the company of good people. These people are hurting, thus changed their name to retrofit. My name is Valarie and for anyone who's interested in joining this gym, you should think twice. I was a member for years at YouFit/Retro Fitness in Richardson and when I ended my membership, they continued withdrawing funds from my account for 3 additional months after it was cancelled. I even went in to the facility to cancel my membership, paid for next fees, had the manager to sign my cancellation notice that I prepared and they continued to take funds from my account. When I discovered this, I immediately went in to speak with the Manager - Larry & Mr. Jim and each time I got the run-around and they would tell me, I'll send an email to the Corporate Office, let me call the Corporate Office to get this resolved. Years have past and I continued to stop by the Richardson location to see what's the status of my refund and to no avail, they have not given me my money back. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happen to, but for those of your who are considering joining, you might want to think twice. They want you to Auto-Pay for monthly fees but no matter how many times I've stop by, I have yet to receive my refund. They have no problem taking your money, but have a huge problem giving you, your money back.

I think I joined in June when they 1st took over and it wasn't crowded, but by August they ramped up membership so much its crazy crowded and they don't keep late night hours where you can at least get a decent session in. Its clean though. The staff stare at me odd when I walk in, and they have people who make me feel uncomfortable. So I told them I don't want to be here anymore and left. 2 months later their Billing people are hounding me about catching up my account. I haven't been here since August and they're trying to bill be through November. Most uncomfortable place I've ever tried training. I try to keep my head down but this is so sad.

I joined Youfit (now Retro fitness) during the COVID times when my regular gym was irregular and “heavy on quarantine” and being close to home. Years later, I never left. When it became Retro Fitness, they changed out all the old equipment with brand new ones and more. During evenings and weekends it can get busy but if you can manage to go during regular morning hours it’s not that crowded. The staff is good and the manager (Ataleo) is very attentive, very helpful and a pleasant character, He goes around making sure everything is kept clean and is often seen walking around picking up stuff off the floor and re-racking weights etc. Overall a good gym ..

With retro fitness taking over this gym I am really excited for all the new equipment and renovations! I recommend waiting until like April to start coming here because they are renovating at the moment and parts of the gym are closed off. Also the equipment from the previous gym that was here is not the best. On the bright side there will be a smoothie bar coming which I’m looking forward to!

I was tired of not seeing the gains I wanted, along with the weight loss I wanted to achieve. In early December, I took a leap of faith and started looking for a personal trainer at the gym. I was set up with Sam to assist me in my questions. Not only did he answer all my questions, he obtained my goals/what I was looking to accomplish. Needless to say, I signed up and started working out with Sam. I quickly realized he had a passion not only for wanting to help me with my fitness goals, but also for providing me the tools necessary to utilize the gym equipment safely. Jumping forward to five weeks later and I’m excited to say that with Sam’s direction, I’ve made great strides. Lost inches in my waist, and gained muscle mass inches in my upper/lower body. He has consistently observed my progress over each session and continually adjusted the workouts. I always try to guess what he’ll have me do but I never get it right, but it’s always fun. In addition, everything I learned from Sam about correct form has given me confidence that will ensure continued progress. Sam really does whatever he can to help his clients realize their goals, and ACHIEVE them. His workouts are challenging, rewarding and done in a fun atmosphere. All the while he is there with words of encouragement to help you push yourself every session. Here is some advice I could offer to anyone who is looking for a personal trainer: You can not go wrong with Sam! He has an incredible foundation and plethora of knowledge, understands your goals along with any limitations, and really wants his clients to succeed! I'm just one of many success stories that Sam has helped with!” I can say without any hesitation that signing up for Sam’s services for personal training was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Love this gym! I recently found myself in the market for a new gym after having the worst experience possible at Texas Family Fitness. A friend of mine recommended this location, so I decided to check it out. The facility itself has everything you need, but more importantly, the staff and management is great! The primary reason for me leaving my previous gym was due to management, bc of their unwillingness to see a customer as anything other than a dollar sign as well as their absolute willingness to screw you over as long as they benefitted. Since coming here, I have had none of those problems. Bridget was so helpful during the membership process and I'm so glad I made the switch!

They make the cancellation process extremely hard, even after your contract ends. You are also set up for automatic renewal after the contract ends, and the only way to cancel would be to come in-person with your document, or to mail them a physical letter. I did not notice my account being charged for all the months after my 1 year contract ended.

I generally enjoy this gym. Pretty good equipment to get a good workout in. The employees are nice too. But I cannot stand going into the bathroom and seeing a dirty toilet. I have been patient and waited for conditions to get better, but the have not. The toilets are so neglected that they are now yellow and get more and more yellow every time I come here. The showers are also disgusting. Please, please, please be better about maintaining the restrooms and showers. I understand maybe your people don’t get paid enough to maintain the restrooms, but at least invest in a janitor, weekly clean up company, or a half hour restroom check. I am willing to update my review if conditions improve.
