My son cancelled his membership 3 months ago. He physically went there to cancel, they confirmed that it was cancelled. But they ended up charging for past 3 months. If you are planning to cancel the membership, make sure you get a print out or email with confirmation. Their staff is trained to cheat their customers. Please be careful.

The gym was terrible. Wasn't clean and has a lack of customer service. There wasn't a lot of equipment for the price either. Cancelations were of course difficult and has to be in letter form or returning to the gym so if you are busy like me they just keep collecting your money.

Update: 4/29/25....I've seen consistency in staff, attitude and attention to members. The equipment so far has been operable. The one area that is sometimes needing consistent attention is the Ladies restroom. That's more of a shared responsibility between the members and Retro staff.

Update: as Retro Fitness 6/11/24...Nothing consistently work...that includes the sauna, Red Light Therapy, massage chairs and employees. It's like a lounging/paid chilaxing spot for the employees. They rarely engage members and when they {have to} it's with a disinterested attitude...as if you bothered them during their cellphone trolling or social hour with their co-worker. It's a place for a basic workout... don't be like me and pay for services that aren't always available. Pay the lowest membership if you sign up...otherwise you'll be giving them a monthly donation because nothing works in premium amenities areas. I'm giving them one more month to pull it together and it's two fingers...bye!

6yrs ago...as YouFit. They have new equipment and instructors. The energy level is indescribable (not high or low....)...but, the classes have improved. They have many new instructors that seem to be interested in actually leading workouts instead of trying to garner friends or make unnecessary comments during sessions. The ladies in the childcare area are impersoniable, they don't speak, welcome not acknowledge their parents. Every month I pay, they tell me I have a late fee (which I don't)....So, every month the rep. and go through the the same spill. I'm not paying for something I don't owe. Even if it only $3.00...I don't owe it...So, you're not getting it. See you next month, more than likely giving the same spill.

If you want to go to one of the most unsanitary gyms in all of Texas, you found the right place. The men's bathroom is so disgustingly nasty I'm going to cancel my membership. The fact that whoever is running the gym allows open feces and fecal matter to be placed in trashcans next to the toilets and says to "Not flush toilet paper down the toilet" should be fired. We are not in Mexico our municipal water can handle toilet paper, and if it can't this gym shouldn't be open. Every time you step foot inside of the tiny, hot, STINKY bathroom it makes you feel like you just left a landfill. This seriously is a health concern and we as members should not have to put up with open fecal matter in bathroom. FLUSH YOUR TOILET PAPER.

I visited Retro Fitness in Mesquite for the first time yesterday, and unfortunately, I left pretty disappointed. The gym was extremely packed, and the air smelled musty as soon as I walked in. There was a long line at the front desk—most people seemed to be waiting for smoothies, which caused a backup right at the entrance.

When I made it to the locker room, things didn’t get better. Every stall was dirty, and the sinks were covered in water. Cleanliness definitely seems to be an issue here.

As for the gym floor, most of the members were barely dressed. The majority of women were wearing just sports bras and booty shorts, and many of the men were in stringer tank tops and very short shorts. That might not bother everyone, but it gave the gym more of a social media influencer vibe than a focused fitness environment. I counted more than ten people filming themselves with tripods, which made it hard to move around or stay focused on my workout.

While the gym does have a wide variety of equipment, there’s often only one machine or setup for each type of exercise. That meant a lot of people hovering and asking, “How many sets do you have left?”—which got old fast. On top of that, there weren’t nearly enough water fountains. At one point, there was even a line just to get water.

Overall, Retro Fitness in Mesquite might work in a pinch if you need to get a quick workout in, but I wouldn’t recommend it as a home gym. The environment was chaotic, the facilities were not well maintained, and the crowd made it hard to focus. Two stars.

I've been to all gyms from the dirt cheap (Planet Fitness) to the ultra expensive (24-Hour Fitness) to private gyms and everything between. All had their pros and cons. Retro Fitness has been hands down my best gym experience.

There are new machines, lots of them. The place is clean despite a large membership. Everyone is nice and respectful and the employees are always helpful and never pushy to sell services like AMPED.

As far as customer service, Seidy Mendoza goes above and beyond. She's helped me with late fees and to reactivate my account after switching over to an MMA gym and has always responded very quickly.

Highly recommended for the Mesquite area. The only con is nights can get packed, but I've been there during the busiest times and have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a machine.

I started going to this gym in January mainly because they offer a wide variety of classes. Power grove with Carmen is my favorite but I also enjoy Zumba with Yadira and Rock Body and Core Stretch (Sat mornings) with Li. Everyone at the front desk has been nice too!

I do enjoy this gym, and I have enjoyed the classes until today. I signed up for yoga since yesterday, and showed up for the 715pm class, and it wasn't until 740 that a fellow classmate went to inquire about the class, we were informed instructor called in at 725 to say she wasn't showing up. Very unprofessional plus very inconsiderate to your patrons. Might need to reconsider other gym for classes.

In the afternoons and evenings, when the gym is really busy, the sound of the vacuum machine is extremely loud—so loud that you can’t even hear your own music. It feels like you’re trying to work out in a construction zone. I’ve brought this up to the front desk and the manager several times, suggesting that vacuuming should be done when the gym is less crowded so people can exercise without distractions. However, no one seems to listen. The noise frustrates everyone, but the staff doesn’t seem to care at all.

Will not let you remotely cancel membership. I moved to another state with no retro fitness and they would not allow me to cancel over the phone. I drove all the way back to cancel the policy. Multiple front desk people claimed to not have authority to cancel memberships. The one that did said that's not true in any case. Decent gym, they make it purposefully impossible to cancel your membership though.

Whatever you do, avoid this place. I had a membership when it was YouFit, and it closed during COVID. I received a bill today since apparently, Retro Fit purchased the gym. Then, they decided to start charging people for memberships for a gym they didn't join. I received a bill for past due payments to a gym I didn't sign up for, which had closed. I called to have the situation addressed, and apparently, an e-mail was sent out. An e-mail I never received or potentially went into spam because my e-mail didn't recognize Retro Fit because I never joined. When speaking to the person at the gym, she hung up the phone on me. She wasn't letting me get a word in, so I started to talk louder, and she hung up. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. There are plenty of great gyms in Dallas and Mesquite.

The gym is pretty decent. As someone who prefers to workout in the early mornings, the lights out front has been broken since at least April/May. I’ve asked several times when they would be repaired and I’m always given the same response of “By the end of this week”. It’s been 5-6 months of the same response. It’s an extreme safety concern and I’m considering moving gyms as I’m tired of parking in a dark parking lot and not being able to see anything.

It’s a good gym the manager does a decent job keeping it afloat. Only issue is the lack of equipment. There’s only a few machines for your abs but tons of room for free weight. I still go here because it’s convenient but doesn’t make sense to pay double what you pay for at other inexpensive gyms for less equipment.

I've been a member even before they were acquired by RetroFitness(since 2019), and unfortunately, the service here has gone down terribly. I originally joined for the group classes, but their instructors barely show up to class if they show up at all, and no one communicates with us. Their floors are dirty and disgusting. Honestly, I haven't seen a single person clean this room, and you can tell. Management is non-existent and even after letting them know what's going wrong, nothing has changed, hence why I'm writing my review. Save your money and go elsewhere.

So when I first started this gym, I was enjoying every moment, from the classes to the personal training sessions, to being greeted at the front door. Now almost nine months later I am no longer feeling appreciated or valued at this establishment and its all in part of the lack of fitness classes instructor coverage as well as the lack of responsive from Kyle the general manager. I completely understand that rules and policies have to be implemented and enforced however the lack of communication that has been occurring with the instructors being out and no coverage is NO LONGER acceptable and needs to be rectified immediately. I primarily attend this gym for group classes and within one week all of the three classes that I attend, the instructors have been absent and Kyle is failing to keep his promise of making sure that the classes are covered. My list can really go on and on but as of now I am feeling dissatisfied with this location and I am hoping that leadership can get this issue rectified immediately before my membership is cancelled. I absolutely LOVE the fitness coaches and the front desk staff but Kyle needs to be replaced as he lacks the empathy for what his clients and customers are needing in Mesquite. This is a brand that is supposed to not only love but love you back and this is not the love that I was expected to receive. GET REAL and listen to your "Retro Fitness Family"!!!

Before you get a membership here or get training read the contract very well . I signed up for PT $40 a session & pre paid for about 4-5 sessions . I was not able to start until weeks after signing up they had no available trainers . When they did finally put me with one they sent confirmation of the session with a duration of only 30 minutes which was not told to me at all during sign up . Standard as any other place I assumed it was an hour I asked them to cancel it . They tried to convince me 30 minutes was more than enough time & I was told I could not cancel and that with non payment eventually it would go on my credit . I left that part alone and figured I would just focus on my membership with the gym since I just needed to work out . once my membership was due I called & asked if the money could be transferred from the sessions I prepaid for to the membership since it’s all in the same place the young lady on the line said she would have a manager give me a call but I never did receive one understandable things get busy i held off on paying until I was able to get an answer . I gave them a couple days still no call so I called back & another young lady answered & said no manager was available & that I would once again get a call back . I gave it a few more days still no call callback so I called again to see if I could have it transferred or just go ahead and pay the balance . They informed me it could not be transferred due to it being contract like . Which is fine I get it oh well money lost no biggie I tried to pay the balance of $30 for the membership & $50 for the annual fee but since I was late paying (waiting on a manager callback) they added a $20 service fee for my card declining + a $15 late fee . I asked them if I could just come in and cancel it so the membership balance it’s not piling up since I can’t go they told me since there is a balance they cannot cancel it & that the balance will keep piling up adding their $20 service charge whenever my card declines PLUS their late fee & after 3 months of not paying that it will go on my credit report . I have only been at this place a month & I would not recommend a single person to come . It’s already little & over packed you would think they had a bit more hospitality towards their members I have never had these issues at any other Gym . Back to fitness connection I go .

On march 31 2024 at around 6 pm I was in the sauna with about 4 people came out was doing something extremely important on my phone came in with a 7500$ necklace and took it off for 1 minute to dry my sweat turned around and it was stolen I asked staff to help not let anyone leave but as always staff was to busy on phone and careless. I called the cops and they assisted me and we asked to see cameras but was denied. This is the worst gym ever and allow thieves in there gym . I asked to speak to management no one had an answer it was traumatic. Now I’m lost with a 7500$ chain worst staff ever you always have to remind them to turn on the sauna too. I demand to see cameras of who walked in sauna at around the time I did

I go here 4/5 times a week with my spouse. Its always clean, the staff is very friendly and they have a good selection of equipment. My complaints though are not with the gym amenities, morseo the people.. theyre ALWAYS packed..i mean ALWAYS ..and thats recently seen a surge im guessing due to the "new years resolutioners"..which is generally a good thing for the business...not so much for those of us who are trying to get a good workout and arent able to access what we need in order to do that due to over crowding. also alot of People (mostly younger guys) will stand around machines and socialize, i even see this one guy who lays on the floor between sets kind of half under the machine, which is nothing short of a safety hazard. Ive looked into going to another retrofitness gym but the closest one is in another city (garland) and i dont care to drive that far so i just deal with it for now, i do hope they open more soon. All in all its a really good gym though. Id recommended it And the smoothie bar is definitely a plus.

1 star because employees don’t do anything at the front except a few that actually keep the place clean and care. Manager Deidric (Dedric? Sorry). Trainers are great, Billy, Ricky, D’Shaud. Only a couple front employees up front actually keep the place clean, pick up weights, Eric, Janet, Rolando.. forgot the other one, she’s tall. I’ve met the GM and she’s never around nor does she do anything either way.

Promote those doing real work, let go of the laziness. Aside from that the sauna is a constant issue I’m always having to call the front desk. Music gets old fast and seems to be on repeat.

The equipment is in good condition. However, with regards to the staff, they do more socializing with each other than making themselves available to the members.
The only employee who seems to care about the condition of the gym is this older gentleman, an African American, who wears a ponytail. He cleans consistently, and he's always available to assist when needed. He knows how the machines work.
(I've asked a couple of other employees for assistance with a machine; they had no clue how it worked).

Finally, when attending a class, members should not have to workout in a room full of junk (photos attached).

The gym itself is fine but the staff and managers need better responses and training. I went to the gym on Friday morning with my mom and all the employees were at the front desk including the manager Monica , my mother accidentally put the settings a bit too high and fell off of the stepping machines near the front desk and none of the staff who saw it happen came over at all whatsoever to ask if she was ok or came to help her and just watched it happen idly. Thankfully the other members going were more courteous and asked if she was alright,but the staff need serious improvement on responding to members getting injured in the gym.

Huge selection of equipment, but it can get "too" busy on Monday night. I have to give huge credit to one of their super star employees, Dedrick. This guy is constantly on the floor re-racking weights, organizing, cleaning, and interacting with the clientele. So often, employees hide behind a counter or in an office. Not Dedrick. He is constantly on the move trying to improve the experience for his customers. He's not some loudmouth just running around. He's calm and soft spoken, but VERY accessible and ready to help. I spent 20 years in customer service management trying to find employees like him. One's that let their actions speak louder than their words, and the one's that do the job when nobody is looking. He's the real deal. You guys have a rock star here.

I've gone to this gym for years even when it was just fitness and I know we have had hard times and kids these days don't want to work or will not ever know what it's like to have and keep a job. But can we please get someone in there that's an adult that wants to work and open on time in the mornings , this is ridiculous and this is the same issue I was having when it was just fitness. Yeah, joined the gym as they were being bought out by retro fitness and before the renovations, the gym was a 7/10 at best. Now that the gym had a "grand reopening", they traded lots of functional gym equipment for very minimal gym branded equipment, which is nice but now there are so few machines to use that getting on one is impossible. You like working out in the afternoon? Oh well, can't use most of the gym. Sauna was down for the longest time ever and upon reopening, the sauna was subpar. Brand new, but sub par. 2.2 million dollars for renovations and yet the have reduced the quality of getting a workout. They have a lot of open space for machines, if only someone didn't pay to remove the old ones that were still perfectly functional and operational. Do yourself a favor, when signing up ask why there is so much open space and so few working out equipment. 1/10

This is my second review to the Gym, first of all, I understand the gym is going through a remodeling process, and sometimes the contractors just take forever, but please, somebody stand up and push, we need the Gym fully operational, I am from the old school training, if I sit on a work out machine is to work out, I know there is people behind me waiting to work out in the same machine, there is people that just sits on a spot for more than 20 minutes, just chatting or talking on the phone while there is people waiting, we need the people at the office be a bit more proactive and make some announcement on speaker to tell people that there is others that goes there to train nor to waste time. At this location, we are short on machines, we are probably short on staff, but we have a bunch of bone heads that just go there for the media. We need more equipment or someone who tells these people to move on.

I've been coming to this location at least 6 years back when it was called Youfit. Most machines are usually available in the early morning hours when I go, so I'm in and out without any problems. Now that it's called RetroFit, things have changed for the better with all the renovations and new equipment. There are no bathrooms indoors yet, but they seem to be working on that still. The staff is exceptional, very friendly, and helpful. I will update the review as soon as all the renovations are complete.

I left a review on the Garland location but I come to this location as well so for more info you can check out my Garland review. But overall, I miss the old Youfit Gym. This location is better than the Garland location because it is bigger. But still Retro Fitness just does not have enough machines especially in the leg department. They only have one machine for each which makes the wait time long. They have one leg press machine which is hard on the joints instead of the 3 different leg press machines they used to have when it was YouFit. Even Planet Fitness has 2 of every machine. I will say I love their new arm machines. The Mesquite location seemed a little better than Garland, as far as less wait time to use machines but I'm pretty sure that's because I came in the afternoon while most are at work. If I would have came during rush hour after work I can't say I would be able to get access to the machines like I want with the wait time being that Retro has reduced the number of machines they have. The old gym used to have machines that were unique that other gyms didn't have and that's what made me stay with YouFit for 6 years. They also no longer have a women's workout room. But sadly I will be canceling for lack of machines. What's the use of paying $40 a month when they don't have the gym machines I like anymore and they have less machines. They do have the body builder weight machines, the kind you have to put the weights on but I don't use those machines.

I am truly disappointed in the customer service I was provided on 5.3.23. I, myself & two of my co-workers went to the Mesquite location to get a workout in. I'm currently using a 3 day guest pass at this location. Towards the middle of our workout session, I notice one of the employees/manager looking my way. I took it as him looking at one of my co-workers. 10 mins later he than approached me & asked to speak with me. He then asked me if I was a trainer. I then answered him by saying "no I'm not" he then responded saying "yes, you are." I then responded "no I'm not, you can ask them" he then said "I don't have ask them, because I know you." he then proceeded to & stated "If I catch you training them in this gym today or moving forward" I will escort you out of this gym." I then proceeded to tell him that "I'm not training them" he still didn't believe me & repeated his previous statement. I have never felt accused or threatened from anyone that works at a gym a day in my life. I felt like he & his team stereotyped me while I was there simply because I'm african american & my two co-workers are hispanic. I was really thinking about joining Retro Fitness. However, after yesterday encounter. I can say I will not be proceeding forward to join this gym. I was left with a bad impression & a horrible taste in my mouth. Mentally & emotionally. This type of behavior of accusing someone that's not even a member of the gym completely unacceptable & the individual that approached me & didn't allow me to prove that I wasn't training anyone deserves some feedback & coaching..

New retro fitness staff can’t even get a call directed in the right direction.
Have been calling about refund they said they would do themselves for day care since they shut it down.
Been over a month and still nothing and keep telling me there busy doing conference calls. Always 3-6 people just standing around anyways.

They removed child care without warning and the gym is more dirty than ever. Have been a member of YouFit for 3 years and it has never looked this horrendous! Nobody cleans, all staff up front stands around on their phones. New owner and management is not friendly nor welcoming.

They increased price as well. Not worth it.

I visited this place interested in a membership, I waited a bit to be helped but , they were busy, this is a new place, under construction. Young lady who helped me was very polite , not pushy , and explained the floor very well , I was shopping around . I did not sign a membership but, I might . It was very clean and did not smell like a musty gym . They offer daily offer classes.

I was a member for youfit for years but canceled due to covid and work schedule. However I decided to rejoin and found out it got bought out by Retro fitness and price went up. I understand they are in the process in remodeling however until the location is 100% ready they shouldn’t be charging members who are paying the $35 plan if we aren’t able to use the services they are stating they are providing . Today I went to the gym to find out that the women’s restroom is closed. I asked the clerk if they had an alternative restroom and she told me no. The one they have was locked by someone. I’m almost 100% sure it’s illegal to have a business open without access to the restroom. Only one sign which are shown in the picture, they should’ve closed today tbh . However , she apologized and when I asked for corporates number she gave me the managers number. I’m providing pictures from today and from Tuesday. I want someone from corporate to reach out to me and not the generic google response.

Update 3/28/23 the gym is closed and members are allowed to go to different gyms for the time being . However I just spoke with a manager who was nice btw , requesting corporates number as no one has reached out to me. She informed me that they weren’t given a number for members or an email. I find this ridiculous!

I am very upset with the service I have received. I recently signed up and during the process I asked about child care and I was informed that it was still open. Which it is no longer available. I am also upset that I have been driving way across town to arrive and they are turning people away because they are closed at 3pm. I work everyday and do not get off until 4pm like normal people and I am not being able to use the gym! This is unacceptable especially when you’re paying for the big package deal and not having access to pretty much anything! Do better!

Was a member for about a year, since i joined there was promises of updating the equipment, literally day 1 the staff said we wont do a walk with you because the equipment was going to change with in a month, never happened, than retro bought off and said improvements would be made by march, still nothing, restrooms still horrible, no changes and whats worse is the price for new members has gone up but no changes.

This gym is a great place to buy a membership and work out at your pace. They have very good membership rates and incentives. Better than other gyms that I’ve gone to.

The people, especially the staff, are friendly!

Manager Seidy Mendoza is AWESOME!!!!!!! She is very reasonable at addressing any concerns and will work with you should you need help with anything. She’s a very nice and professional member of staff.

The WORST cancellation process. I started business with this gym when it was Just Fitness. I was paying about $64 annually, not bad for a gym membership. However, I was not a consistent user and often forgot about the membership fee until after it was charged. Just for the record, there is NO communication to remind customers that they contact is set to renew. I moved to another county that does not have a YOUFIT facility in 50+miles. I decided to cancel the membership. I looked at saw I was already charged for the year (about two weeks prior). Again I have not used the membership in several years. I went to the website to cancel and after a chat I was given two options come in or mail. I decided to drive the 50+ miles to cancel. I asked the guy who was cancelling my membership when would I receive my refund for the annual dues and he said I would have to talk to someone in corporate also I had to pay an additional $10 to cancel the membership. Well, as of today I was rudely informed from the FaceBook Messenger that they were not refunding me and the cancellation policy is in the written contract I signed with JustFitness. Lesson learned. It would be GREAT customer service if they would just send a reminder that annual dues are due.
