My husband and I are on a journey with our health and decided to let Royston Fitness help us out! We both recently started showing signs of diabetes.
We’ve known Jonathan for a long time and are very proud of the business he has built in keeping people fit. We don’t live in his area but he was able to help us virtually through phone calls/texts. We were more interested in the nutrition side of things. He set us up with a great nutritionist, Jessie. She gave us many ideas for healthy eating. My husband has a lot of allergies and her suggestions tasted great as well as healthy.
Jonathan also gave us ideas to use at home as far as exercising which we implemented and will continue to use.
Just in the short time we’ve been using Royston Fitness, our blood sugar numbers have dropped considerably.
We highly recommend Royston Fitness!!!

I have been working with Jon for five months now and it has been a very positive experience. I have seen results from both a muscle building and cardio/endurance perspective. He sets up easy to understand goals and workout plans.
He also has a dietician (Jesse) on standby for those that need diet and meal plan advice.

I have been attending this gym now three weeks I’m down 11 lbs and everyone is nice. They call you to make sure you’re ok if you fail to attend. They are so helpful. They go out of their way for everyone! No matter what stage you are in…. You belong! They help you develop. I started knowing absolutely nothing… struggling to lose 1 pound and now I’m 11 lbs down I feel so excited!

When we finally make a decision to commit to finding a gym to call home, one of my top requirements is belonging. An environment where I know that support, both mentally and physically is plentiful. Dissent is that place. Every staff member is genuinely concerned that I get the most out of my workout and wants me to succeed in whatever goals I create for myself. The workouts are challenging enough for me to feel productive, but not intimidating to the point where I want to give up. Dissent is perfect for me!
As a young adult, I was very active physically and then life happened. One of the most evident changes since I've joined Dissent is that I have begun to find that love of working out again.

I've been going for a bit over a month for personal training. The personal trainer I have has been great. They take very good care to not overdo things and take your ability/mobility into account. The only thing that is a negative is the lack of any real air conditioning. It does get pretty warm inside. There are lots of fans, but that only does so much when it gets as hot as it does here.

Everyone here is very welcoming and friendly and they support you in reaching your goals. The owners are very kind with everyone and they take their time to explain the workouts so everyone understands as well as answering whatever questions you have. It feels amazing to have found a place like this where you feel comfortable working out and everyone encourages each other. I can't say enough good things about Dissent. The coaches are phenomenal. The classes, although group classes, have plenty of one-on-one time with coaches. Wether you’re a seasoned vet in your health journey or looking to start and improve your health dissent athletics is the place you want to be! The thing that sets dissent athletics apart in my opinion, is that no matter if it’s your first time in the building or you millionth time in the building, is that you feel at home. I’ve never felt anything but accepted. The feeling of a family is something I get each and every time I’ve walked through the doors of dissent. I’ve tried other gyms, tradition and CrossFit, but I left feeling like I was a dollar sign. That’s never the case with dissent athletics. I’ve gotten text from the coaches at dissent athletics just wanting to check up on life even when I wasn’t attending! Who does that?! Family does that. If you’re looking to start or continue your journey in bettering your health and attaining those goals you’ve always dreamed of. Dissent athletics is the place you want to be!

I have been a member of Dissent Athletics since before the name changed to Dissent Athletics! I enjoy coach led group fitness classes that are CrossFit style classes. The coaches are encouraging and knowledgeable helping me to scale classes to my ability but also challenging me and pushing me to do more than I sometimes think I can. The community of members is amazing! I'm an over 50 female just trying to be as fit as I can and stay healthy! I encourage others to give Dissent Athletics a try!

Jonathan is a fantastic resource of both nutrional and physical training knowledge. Coming from a more standard upper/lower body split lifting routine, I both hate and love every workout he creates. I can say the priority on functionality has been fantastic in eliminating the aches and pains of daily life (while somehow still increasing my strength, all those leg/core lifts...).
Recommend to anyone looking to see what true potential they have.

I cannot say enough good things about this gym and it's owners! I am a part of a sober community called The Phoenix and I first attended a workout at Dissent through them. That was nearly a year ago. With the partnership that we have with them, we workout every Friday together and it is SO beneficial to our sobriety! Connecting with the community, offering amazing workouts, genuinely caring about each individual that walks into their gym and offering workouts for any level with AMAZING instruction...can't get better than that folks!
EDIT! 10 months later - now a member as well as knocking out Phoenix workouts every Friday! Group classes…TRY ONE! You won’t be sorry! No matter your level of fitness, you’re moving and the instruction you get at each class is hands down the best I’ve ever experienced. LOVE THIS COMMUNITY!

Investing in a gym membership is one thing but investing in not only a gym as well as a community that welcomes you is life changing. Going into Dissent Athletics was nerve wrecking the first time I walked through the doors, not only are they there to help you with your physical health they also care about your mental health and who you are as a whole person. You want to lose weight, become stronger, get back your running condition come to dissent athletics, This is not your type gym you go workout and go home it's more than that. Here at Dissent Athletic you get to feel welcome every single day. They help you achieve your endurance, strength and even your mental health. Ive been doing Crossfit for 8 years and Dissent Athletic is one of the best boxes in the Metroplex. The coaches are all very knowledgable and have helped correct my technique flaws which have helped keep me injury free. The workouts are varied and always challenging. Dissent is not just a gym, but a community of people who share similar health and fitness goals. I highly recommend giving Dissent a try if you are starting you fitness goals or a seasoned veteran. You wont regret it.

Before starting at Dissent, I had recently been working out either in my garage or in a big commercial gym where I had to come up with my own workouts. This led me to only doing what I felt like doing and not pushing outside my comfort zone. The coaches at Dissent were very quick to observe this habit I had built and incrementally push me outside my comfort zone. They are knowledgeable, motivating, and committed to the daily improvement of the members. They will accommodate for anyone’s needs and any level of fitness. Nothing compares to working out with group classes in this style of fitness and Dissent is a great atmosphere for anyone looking to improve their health.

Getting started in fitness can seem intimidating. Most people don't have any experience, and have no idea where to start. That is the benefit of starting your fitness journey with Dissent. Everyday there is a new workout on the board. You don't have to think about it. Just show up, and put in the work. Everyday the workout is different, so you won't get tired of the same old routine. A coach will go over the workout at the beginning of class to make sure everyone understands movements. They will keep a eye on the class to make sure everyone is doing the movements correctly. If your not able to do one of the movement's, no big deal. The movements can be scaled to fit your ability. Anyone can do these classes. If your a competitive person you will get a chance to compare your score to other people in the community. If not you can enjoy working out with a group of like minded people. I tried to get into fitness a few times before I found Dissent. I never could get it to stick. I have been a member at Dissent for 2 1/2 years now. I have lost 63 lbs since I started, and that is just half the story. Dissent helped me reach my fitness goals. It can work for you too. Sign up, eat healthy, come to classes and have fun.

Dissent has changed my life in many ways! Before joining Dissent I had lower back pain, elevated blood pressure, mild anxiety and was slightly overweight. I have been a member for a year and half, attend class regularly and get nutrition coaching from Jonathan. In this time my physical, mental and emotional health have all improved. Since joining I no longer have lower back back pain & have improved flexibility, my blood pressure and resting heart rate are better, my anxiety is gone and I have lost fat and gained muscle. Not too mention through the programming I have gotten stronger and have been able to learn new movements such as double unders, muscle ups, pull ups and toes to bar.

I am a 21 year old college student in San Angelo, Texas. I have been consistently working out for a little over 2 years, I had learned a lot about diet, exercise, and general health. However, I had some issues with an eating disorder, diet consistency, and self-consciousness when it came to food. I was 100% comfortable with being completely open and honest, whether it be the good, bad, or in between. I never hesitated to tell Jonathan how I felt at any time, physically or mentally. I was able to provide feedback of what I did and didn’t like, felt I could and couldn’t do, and of any struggles I was undergoing to him so he could adjust our plan accordingly. He never failed to impress me with his knowledge, passion, professionalism, confidentiality and honesty throughout the entire process. Within 2 months, Jonathan had me in a much healthier relationship with food not only for results and better health/fitness in general, but also the mental side of being able to go out, eat away from home, travel, and experience life as you should without feeling trapped under the rock of an eating disorder. It has been 3 months since I’ve been off on my own, and I am consistently be able to balance, sustain, and hold a consistent a healthy diet while being able to live life and not miss out on all the fun tastes and experiences of the world. I would highly recommended Jonathan and any of the staff at Dissent Athletics to anyone seeking advice, help, knowledge, or accountability at any point in their diet, fitness, training, or daily health journey. I cannot say enough good things, I greatly appreciate what they were able to do for me.

The space, coaches, and workouts are all fantastic! I’ve been loving the 6am classes and there are plenty of other evening times to choose from, if needed. I love that the environment is so encouraging for all levels of fitness and/or age groups. Definitely a plus!

Dissent is the place for anyone who is looking to make positive health changes in their life. This isn’t your normal gym environment. The staff is warm and welcoming to eyehole comes in the door. They aren’t just focused on weight loss, but whole mind and body health. I have never once felt judged coming in here. I love the options to be able to join in with a group class or have the freedom to do my own workouts during open gym time. The staff is also extremely knowledgeable in all areas of fitness. I have always gotten the best advice on my form for lifting, what foods to eat to fuel my body, and the best strategies to get my mind in the right place! 10/10 recommend Dissent to anyone!!

Walking into a gym was nothing new to me when I first walked into Dissent- but walking into a CrossFit style gym was a first, and I definitely had some preconceived ideas of the type of people that go to a gym full of climbing ropes, sleds, and barbells for days. When I called to ask about membership prices, I got a voicemail and hung up immediately thinking this was my excuse out of trying something new and uncomfortable- but true to his style, Jonathon called me back within seconds to say he was sorry he missed my call and asked how he could help. After an encouraging chat I showed up for a trial class the next Monday, and have called this place home for over a year now. You won't find a more supportive, inclusive, welcoming, fun, and encouraging environment anywhere. To call Jonathon and Kelsey kind, humble, and caring would be a terrible understatement- they truly are the most remarkable people and it creates a gym culture unlike any other. No gym bros to be found here, just a bunch of great people who want to be a little bit better everyday, and have a hell of a time doing it. Whether it's weightlifting classes, DEKA prep, group classes, Ruck Club, or in-house competitions, there's something for everyone, no matter your skill level or goals. If you want a place where coaches invest in you, provide compassionate coaching to support your goals, and never make you feel guilty for missing a day or two, this is your community. And if that's not enough to convince you, their three dogs roam the gym and enjoy any pets you're willing to give.

I've been doing remote programming for about a year and it is great! The coach can completely tailor workouts to fit your fitness goals, time allowance and available equipment while still providing results. And if you can attend in person, do so! The community truly is amazing!

I have been a member at Dissent Athletics for a year now. This gym is the only one that I have been too in the area where the staff actually cares about my personal health and fitness goals. Jonathan and Kelsey Royston (the owners) take the time to get to know every member of the gym on the personal and professional level. The workouts that they provide are difficult but very rewarding and their equipment and facilities are great for anyone wanting to get in shape and learn how to truly take care of themselves. The other staff members are very friendly and passionate about helping people with their fitness goals. I can’t say enough good things about this gym and the people in it.

I've been using Dissent's remote programming since being cleared after having my first baby. I was able to get tailored programming starting from 6 weeks postpartum to now at one year with little to no equipment at home. I'm so proud of how far I've come and how I can be an example to my little one for years to come. I love that I have a sense of accountability and community even from hours away!
