Karina’s boxing class is phenomenal. She has patience for noobies and can give some good work to veterans of the boxing class. She has pretty good knowledge of building muscle and getting in better shape. Come check out Karina and the fine staff at South Austin Gym!

Great gym to learn the sweet science. It’s been about 8.5-9 years for me of boxing training. Very few workouts are equivalent to boxing. It’s exhausting in a good way and helps develop movements that are applicable to many sports. It is an excellent activity for kids/teens/young adults/adults who want to be high performers in their respective sports! Randy was my first personal boxing trainer and he has had around 10 of his coaches train me as well. I even did some classes for the first 3-4 years of my boxing journey. It gets addicting and can become a lifestyle for some. Highly recommend.

Friendliest staff and patrons. Everyone seems to be there to help and coach you along. Not once did I feel inadequate or out of place like I have at other gyms. There is always available equipment and classes almost every day so well worth the money. Highly recommend.

This gym is a really special place. I started personal training in 2014, and never stopped! I go 3x/week and I've never been in better health. Randy Palmer sets a high bar and tailors the workouts and guidance for individual needs. He's fair and generous, and the staff is very welcoming. Lots of equipment and spaces support many training options. It's never boring. Other long-time clients have become friends and have been there longer than I have.

I love this gym! Everybody is great to work with. Very professional and caring. I like it here. Plus you get individual attention. Instructions on all the equipment. What area of the body your targeting or working on. And it's fun too. You also can tell they love what they do too. That's who you want to learn form. I highly recommend South Side Gym.

I’ve been going to South Austin gym for 12 years and I’ve gone from being unable to jump rope to a very well rounded fighter. Randy and all of his great staff taught me everything from Muay Thai/kickboxing to boxing and bjj. Im currently working on my getting my purple belt and I’m acquainted with most situations in a fight. One of my favorite places to be is South Austin Gym.

I am so pleased with my experience so far with South Austin Gym. I appreciate the specific training and support I receive. Karina is my trainer and has developed plans specific to my needs. She's awesome!! After 3 months or so, I have less pain in my knees and more flexibility over all. And, I feel so much better!! And, everyone-- from staff to other members -- are so friendly and encouraging. This is definitely where I need to be!

I love the gym! They have top tier trainers that will take your game from 0 to 100 real quick!
They have a variety of classes available and have open gym. Their staff is excellent. They’re friendly and knowledgeable. I’m super excited to see my striking and grappling grow here!
I also want to shout out my Coach. Esmeralda is incredible. She has inspired me to level up in boxing and BJJ. I’ve never met any boxing coach who will actually take notes and build off your previous experience. She’s phenomenal 🤘🏽
Last thing: they have ALL the equipment needed for strength & conditioning. It’s like a candy shop for fitness enthusiasts who want to go all out!
Overall- I’m happy to be here 🙏🏽

Be careful ,this place is a trap to charge you money . I registered for 16 weeks challenge , and it turned out as a one year contract . There was no way to cancel or freeze it . I couldn’t make it to one year , because l live far away from gym , so l just wanted to terminate the contract and the other party which is in onother state charged me 400 $ .they were so greedy, rude, cruel .

The gym owner, Randy Palmer, shows a disregard for members’ well-being and financial stability. The exorbitant fees and outdated, inadequate equipment, especially the boxing ring, are major concerns. The consistently poor behavior of the staff, marked by rudeness and a complete lack of customer service, further exacerbates the situation. Neko and Conrad are the only ones who keep the boxing culture alive despite the owner’s apparent disinterest in developing a boxing team or raising membership fees.
I’ve been a member since 2021, and the gym has been in decline ever since. All the good coaches have left or been fired. The owner constantly threatens to remove the boxing team or stop sparring. I’ve given this gym multiple chances, but the staff consistently lets me and others down. They make us feel unwelcome and unappreciated, preventing us from training or progressing in boxing or kickboxing.
This isn’t meant to criticize or disparage the gym, but rather to provide a clear observation of the issues that need to be addressed.

I want to share our experience. They did not give any one on one with our 14 yr son. He did not get in the ring which would teach him some type of skill. In addition, they had hit hitting the big bag which my son didn't put any effort in. This gym was a waste of time and money. FYI- they do give out a t-shirt for your $400

Love this gym so much. A true South Austin staple, with legit coaches and a legit boxing program.
Membership prices are high, but worth it if you're serious about training, whether that's in mixed martial arts, or strength training. The coaching is first-class, and there's just the right mix of machines + rack space for barbell and free weight work.
Membership has gotten a little busier since 2022 when I joined, and that's diluted the appeal of paying a higher price point. If South Austin Gym continues to get busier with general population clients, the value for money won't be there. But if they keep their focus on the bread and butter — boxing / kb / bjj / conditioning for those sports — it'll remain the best gym this side of the river!

W3LL : I'll save the Crypto-Talk for another time; I went for 8 weeks...Highly Recommend one of the Following -->
1) Private Sessions
1a) Because you'll only be conditioning if you're not part of a 'Program' (there are 3)
2) Group Classes
2a) This is operated by a great guy - he's patient and you'll get his input or recommendations
3) Light Cross Training
3a) There's room & space to practice agility plus a weight room + cable-exercises.
Down (Reason for 4)
Sometimes someone cooks something and trying to NOT break your diet becomes a distraction.
I also recommened going, if you're 'gym only during non-MMA-type classes ; it's far from 'over-crowded' but if you're there for more than 75min you'll be distracted.
Boxing & Kickboxing Coaches are Professionally-Friendly, they have larger lockers, stalls and showers (>1); I recommend taking plenty of water and if you're committed perhaps a diet that allows for continuous training becomes possible.
I recommend trying for a 2 months at a time or 2 months on and 3 months off -- if you're uncertain with Strict Training. It's not 'you must work-out...but everyone trains for their Respected Sport.
Parking is so/so.

Be careful what you sign up for! I payed for a set of personal training and was continuously charged 500$ AFTER sessions were completed. I have had to open multiple claims through my bank and block this gym from pulling more money from my account. The Owner is rude and unprofessional. Have called and came in multiple times for a refund and have been given the runaround every time. I would have liked to buy more classes from this gym if the situation was handled with more professionalism. if you come to this gym PAY IN CASH. they will steal from you. I’m not the first or the last.

Be very careful with this place. I canceled due to the gyms mishandling of my boxing coaches, meaning in the 9 months I was here , I had 5 different coaches. LOVE this place! For many reasons. I recently started training with Randy, and he is the REAL deal! Like no kidding! He is an amazing instructor and takes his time with me and meets me where I am at. I had a car accident and a head injury so I have to modify many movements and go slow.
Another reason, I love this gym, is that it is CLEAN! I am mean, REALLY clean! The weight racks are always in order! The floors are spotless! For a boxing and weight rack gym, it is truly amazing! Better than any box store gym in the city!
The people who work there, say hello to you! I feel like when I am there, I matter! Thank you Randy!

Please do not waste your money. I do not even write reviews EVER but I have to because me and my husband both had hard time ending our contract. The first problem is that they do not manage their own payment system. It is done by a third party. They literally refer you to the third party for any issues with your payment. When I signed up for my contract I was told that my contract was for 6 months including the month that I signed up(makes sense) but when they took out money on the 7th month, I called them and the owner's wife was rude and basically told me I need to learn how to read. I had to hang up on her because she was so disrespectful. A month later my husband told them that we were moving to another city and he wanted to end his contract(a clause in contract and verbally told by the person when we signed our contract), they gave him WRONG email address of the third party who takes care of their payments. We emailed then in April with the proof that we have moved to another city. We realized in September that they were still taking out payments($125/ month) from his account. We contacted the payment company and they just emailed us today that they will take out another payment in October and it will stop in November. This is after we forwarded them the proof of email in April to the wrong email address that was provided to us(word "systems"was missing from incorrect email address). There are much better gyms out in that area who do better business. The instructors are good and they are friendly but please do not sign a contract or just sign a month to month contract. I know that it is not that difficult to just call the payment company(third party) and let them know about the wrong email address and they could have easily returned our overpayments. And just to also make clear, my husband has not been to that gym since February 2019. Please do not join this gym

YOU CAN NOT CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP. I REPEAT. YOU CAN NOT CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP. Unless you are going to take your training seriously, I would not recommend coming to this gym. I initially signed up to train with them so I could start competing. Then suddenly I had a change with my work schedule, which prevented me from being able to make it to any class. Cool, I called the agency that they doing billing to cancel. Apparently there’s a clause in their contract that prevents you from canceling your contract. You can’t even buy out the rest of your contract like most gyms offer. So basically I’ve been stuck paying over 140-150 something dollars a month for training that I can’t even attend. So don’t end up like me.

TL;DR: This gym and the instructors are awesome. Go here.
This is a great gym! I've trained in martial arts of different sorts since I was a kid, I love it. It's the only exercise that I can stick with! I needed to tighten up my boxing, (which is sloppy), so I checked out South Austin Gym. After one Kickstarter lesson, I signed up. Unfortunately, a week later in judo class at another gym, my MCL and meniscus were injured when a guy who didnt yet know how to fall correctly landed on my right knee. I had to do rehabilitation and stop training. South Austin Gym was kind enough to freeze my account for a short time!
Here it is, several months later, and I am able to attend boxing classes to try and get in shape again (it's going to be a task: I let myself go), and I am hooked! Next week will only be my third week of regular training in a long time and I can't wait to get back at it. When I get my wind back, I'm going to do the kickboxing classes, too. The boxing coaches (I do day classes) Rudy, Mo, Zach and Mike are all professional and supportive. Haven't had the chance to take classes from Coach Palmer yet but he is always at the gym and seems to be a nice guy. All the other students in the classes are also supportive and fun to workout with.
If you are looking for a gym to help you get started in combat sports or whip you in shape because you've been sandbagging it (like me), this is the place to go. Do it!

This gym is excellent. And everything is so clean! The SAS classes are almost as good as one-on-one training, but without the cost, so in that sense it's much less expensive that the average boxing gym. It doesn't have the overcrowding that a lot of Austin gyms have. It has all the equipment needed, plus the wide open space needed (most gyms have only one or the other). The personal training is expensive, but probably only needed for more serious boxers.

Seems half decent. Went for boxing and was asked to pay $35 up front. No free trial to see if I even like it. Completely ridiculous. The gym membership itself cost more than several gyms and several martial arts programs that let you have a free trial.

Terrrible gym, bad business practices , the things they promised are not true ,broken equipment and unprofessional trainers not for people with experience , horrible process to cancel the membership. I had signed up for 6 months that I payed for to later find out it was a year and a half , false information, I don't recommend this to anyone who's more advance in boxing or mma , would rather recommend planet fitness then this for what you pay for monthly .In short words they only care to squeez money out of you and work against you they could literally care less about ur health or fitness , when I did set up to have training sessions the coaches didn't show up ,Conrad,May,Kayde and I also heard weird things between the coaches and staff going on , didn't feel comfortable didn't want to go to the gym and the training was very basic nothing you couldn't do by your self at any other and less priced gym, horrible experience wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Besides me not wanting to attend the gym and then wanting to cancel which is one of the worst experiences I've had at any gym I've ever been too with 5 years boxing experience.

I called and just wanted to know prices. I liked the guy I talked to, he seemed really nice, but asked several times for monthly membership prices for only western boxing or both w boxing and kickboxing and got the runaround everytime. I probably won't hassle with going to the $35 kickstart trial just to find out what they charge for their programs that he wanted me to do. I'll just find another gym.

This place is known for charging past dates for contracts. The staff says they can't do anything to stop the payments and to contact their billing company. In October of 2016, I was bored of my workout routine and decided to try something new. Without prior experience, I challenged myself to win a sanctioned fight within one year. With the expertise and patience of the trainers and staff at South Austin Gym, my goal was accomplished a few months ahead of schedule. Given that I have ran through the gamut of their programs, from SAS Fit to boxing class and even some personal training sessions, I can say that as long as you bring some grit, South Austin Gym will push you to achieve your fitness goals.

I'm fairly new to this gym, maybe 3 months or so. I've had nothing but good experiences here. The staff are all knowledgeable and very serious about conditioning, fitness, and mindset. I go to the classes at least twice a week and have learned alot. Excellent instructors like Andy, Mo, Josh, Cade, and Randy make this place a wealth of knowledge for any looking to get ready for the fight. I really enjoy the primal 7 class, they are really tough. I can't believe that Mo teaches/participates in the primal class and then immediately goes to teach the boxing class, that dude is a beast...I'm on the floor just drained after the primal class...lol only bad thing is I wish there was an earlier class like 9am or whatever. The earliest classes start at noon.

I've been going to this gym for nearly three years now and have enjoyed it thoroughly especially when it moved closer to my home in South Austin rather than being closer to downtown. The staff are friendly they're always getting in new equipment and improving the gym space. The only thing personally keeping it from being a 5-star is them being open at 5:30 in the morning, I know this is early for some people but it's never open when it says it's supposed to be open and most the time I'm having to drive back home because I don't have time to waste when no one is here.

I took boxing and kickboxing classes at this gym for about a year and half and have worked with many of the instructors: Randy (gym owner), Mo, Tyler, Vaughn, Kaiden (i think?), and a few other guys that are no longer teaching there or whose names I didn't get. There was one trainer I didn't like too much (Lorenzo, no longer at the gym) but otherwise, they all have had a great attitude and are knowledgeable and experienced, and classes had a good balance between theory (bag work, drills) and practice (dutch drills, light sparring). The reality is that most people need to be hit a couple of times to be "taught" the importance of keeping your guard up, footwork, etc, and so you need the occasional sparring to develop good habits.
I was concerned with head injuries and excessively violent students/instructors but I have found that, at least for the boxing and kickboxing classes, there is a healthy emphasis on control and proper technique. I really appreciated that side of the class and it was what kept me coming back. Even when Tyler was kicking my legs into jello, or Mo was slipping upper cuts through my defense, I found it instructive and helpful rather than discouraging because they had excellent control and were showing me weaknesses.
If you are interested in boxing only as exercise, this is not the place to go. If you are interested in learning and practicing boxing or kickboxing technique as a fighter, you will find good and varied company here. If I wasn't leaving the city to go back to school, I'd renew my membership ($1k per year) and keep training.

Came in to try the gym out tonight because I heard good things. My workout was only going to take 20 minutes as I told the guy at the desk. He charged me $15, okay cool, he tells me that's a 1 day pass. When I leave (20 minutes later) I ask the same person if I can come back tomorrow before 6pm? 1 day = 24 hours right? The same guy makes this weird thinking emoji face and says "I don't know I'll have to ask Mo". I wanted to give a local gym a chance but I think I'll stick to 24 Hour Fitness. At least there I would have got shown around and the day pass would have been for a day. I was even going to buy a t-shirt if I liked the place. Oh well keeping Austin weirded is getting harder to do I guess.

I spent a year in the weight area working out and watching the boxing and kick-boxing. Finally decided to give boxing a try. Best decision I've made in many years. Great staff, coaches and support. You will find some of the best people in South Austin Gym. Best deal in town for the weight room, and none of the other gym's issues with grunting or not grunting. The cost of the boxing program is about the same as other boxing gyms. This gym is really more than a gym and I'm not saying this just because I go here. They have clean equipment and great programs. I was initially attracted to this place because they offered Muay Thai, but I've been so out of shape that just having a trainer to spar with was the best.
