I signed up 3 days ago for a Texas family fitness membership and paid in full for an entire month due to being home for college. The price was NOT CHEAP. I find out this morning through an email that the Lakewood location is immediately permanently closed. They should have disclosed this as sign up, because now I have paid 50.00 for a planet fitness membership I have no interest in having. I can not believe how unprofessionally this has all been handled.

Frustrating and unprofessional are the first words that come to mind when describing my recent experience at Texas family fitness. After adding a family member to my account, and paying for this member, I was notified by the manager that the account was created incorrectly. accidents happen, so I was not mad about this, however, after reaching out to the manager Tim on several occasions, I received absolutely no help nor the lines of communication kept open. To make matters worse the following month Oct, 2024, I was charged THREE TIMES what I am typically charged monthly. Contacted Tim, Again, and still, absolutely no resolution! I unfortunately, had to reach out to corporate and management from other locations who also expressed this particular managers unprofessionalism and lack of concern and empathy for the members. After two months,YES 2 MONTHS of reaching out on a weekly basis, I was reimbursed. This would have not been possible at all without the help of a young lady at the front counter, who truly went over and beyond to contact upper management for me, asking them to reach out to me directly. Working out is a part of my lifestyle and other than this incident I have never had any at this gym. Yes, it was extremely frustrating To be treated this way after being a member for several years. But I do appreciate the willingness of the young lady and upper management for RIGHTING their WRONG.

I want to address the numerous promises made prior to Covid. After the pandemic hit, I was unable to work for two months as I was deemed “non-essential.” I was under the impression that there were no binding contracts due to the prolonged closure and the subpar Covid safety practices observed by staff. For both financial and health reasons, I made the decision to cancel my membership.

Despite reaching out to customer support multiple times to express my concerns, I was met with unjustified charges for a membership I had already canceled. I was informed that I needed to visit the gym in person to finalize the cancellation. Isn’t the purpose of customer support to assist remotely?

I understand that this is a business, but given the extraordinary challenges posed by the pandemic and the financial difficulties many face, I expected a more compassionate and understanding approach. Instead, I feel forced into a situation where my membership has been handed over to collections, which feels more like exploitation than customer service.

We’ve been coming here for a couple of years and generally like the equipment they have. Staff is friendly. They just replaced the old pads of several machines and have added some new squat machines. Would love some hooks or cubby shelves to leave keys, a jacket or a hat. Would also love the only sit up bench to move back downstairs. Have asked the manager about both of these requests. Also wish it was cooler in the gym.

I joined Texas Family Fitness and had the pleasure of working with Keyshun. From the moment I signed up, he went above and beyond by giving me a thorough tour of the facilities and showed me how to use each machine even flexing after to show me which muscles the machine utilized. But what truly stood out was his character. Unlike ownership, when I ran into an issue due to my own carelessness, Keyshun went as far as offering to help with a refund (if he had the authority) simply because he genuinely cares.

It’s evident to me that Keyshun should be in a leadership role—if not the manager already, then the owner! He’s the kind of person who would make this place exceptional if he made the rules. Honestly, if it weren’t for him, I’d be giving this facility a one-star LIKE MANY OTHERS HAVE because of their overly complicated membership cancellation process and THERE INABILITY TO EMPATHIZE WITH MISTAKES and instead be prideful over $120. Thanks to Keyshun, I’m leaving this five-star review instead!

This place is super scammy with the personal training. Initially signed up for a membership deal that gave me four free PT sessions with it. Asked to do four more after the initial ones. Decided I didn’t want anymore after 3 of the four sessions and called to say that I would not want any more sessions. Over the phone they told me I had to come in to cancel since I had actually signed a subscription. I thought the only thing I signed was a receipt for the transaction for four sessions. I came in to cancel and was told since I did not give 30 days notice that I would be charged for four more sessions. I offered to give up the one session I had already paid for. I offered to pay additional for the sessions I had already had. I was told that was impossible and could either pay or be sent to collections.

During this process staff was rude and dismissive. Both managers said they wish they could help me but are not able to change it once it is already billed. I initially called to cancel on 0ct 13th and was charged for a renewing service on Oct 15th. Front desk and manager refused to give me number for anyone higher up in the company to escalate this to.

TLDR: Charged and sent to collections for refusing to pay for personal training service I did not want and did not sign up for.

I’ve been a member at Texas family fitness for six months, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the results. From the very first session, it was clear that they are not just knowledgeable but also incredibly passionate about helping their clients reach their fitness goals.

Caroline, a personal trainer tailors every workout to fit our personal needs, pushing the clients just the right amount without overloading them. She has a deep understanding of exercise science, and their guidance has helped me improve both my strength and overall fitness in ways I didn’t think were possible.
What I really appreciate is her ability to keep the workouts fresh and challenging. She mix up routines, keeping me engaged and motivated, and are always ready with tips to improve my form, which has minimized any risk of injury.

Updating to a 1 star review. I canceled my membership in June and have written proof of it. The continued to attempt to charge my card even after the 30 day notice was done per their contract and then sent me to collections. I never got a single notice of this in the mail or a bill in the mail either. Will be telling everyone I know to cancel their memberships as well.

Signed up a few weeks ago, kinda unsure if I would stick with the gym. The salesman told me I could sign up without paying the annual fee as a bonus, so that's what got me to sign. Canceled today because the gym wasn't for me (Looking for better than planet fitness with a different name), and all of a sudden, I had to pay $80 to cancel. Meh…sure it’s big, clean, plenty of equipment, doesn’t feel overly crowded but with big box corporate gyms there are always issues. I’ll preface by saying I’ve been a member for 4 years.
1. Management changes every 2 weeks so if you speak to one about a concern I can guarantee you it will not be addressed
2. Management lacks basic social skills and customer service: Telling a paying customer “we aren’t going to put any money into the spin room” isn’t good business practice. This is in regards to fans not oscillating which has been ongoing for over 2 years.
3. Equipment needs some serious TLC: torn and ripped pads, cardio equipment wobbly and grinding, TVs on most treadmills don’t work, mats are falling apart.
4. One positive: Front desk staff is lovely and always glad to help out

Avoid getting any sort of membership here! Even if they say it’s month to month and not a contract, IT IS!
I had to cancel my membership the same day I started bc an elderly lady accosted me for asking to use a box that her bag was on and apparently said person has a history of this sort of thing.
I tried canceling my membership that same day but it was never cancelled because no one at the gym knows how to properly cancel a membership. So Here’s what I found when I attempted to cancel for anyone who’s going through this nightmare.
First, it’s a law that any membership has a 3 days cancellation meaning you can cancel within 3 days and get a full refund. Second, Every membership (even if it is MTM & they say is not a contract) has a billing cycle of the 15th and has a 30 day cancellation period. So if you cancel August 17th, you still have to pay for August and September (30 day cancellation clause). If you don’t pay those two months or take your cc off your acct, your membership will NOT cancel. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CARD OFF YOUR ACCOUNT OR CANCEL THR CARD OR MISS THOSE TWO LAST PAYMENTS. Their system will automatically see you have a past due for not paying August or September and will charge you late fees and continue your membership until you pay everything past due including late membership fees for Aug, Sept, & any other months it took you to pay August & Sept & late fees for each month. The staff kept giving me the wrong information and it caused me months of fees & late fees until I was able to figure all of this out. Save yourself the headache and just avoid the place 😅

Lots of hidden fees, and they'll blame and threaten you if you complain about unexpected charges.

We had a scary bad experience here when we were charged a $59.54 fee we didn't expect about a month into our membership. We got a hold of the manager (Lane) on the phone. He explained that they charge this fee to everyone annually. We explained that that's fine that they charge people that, but no one told us about that when we signed up, and the person signing us up never showed us what we were signing and only explained it verbally, and we didn't receive an email copy of the contract. He said that that employee no longer worked there, said they had been fired. He asked what we wanted. We asked if there was anything he could do to make it right, like credit our account. He suddenly threatened to call the police on us (for simply asking), accused us of "extortion", lectured us about reading contract fine print carefully before signing, and said that he would win in court. (No one said anything about going to court before that.) He was combative and unnecessarily escalatory, said we were trying to rob him personally. Swore on the phone. It was a very bizarre and disturbing experience. We couldn't imagine going here after that experience, so we drove over to cancel the contract in person. When you cancel, apparently they charge for an extra month (also stated in the fine print that no one showed us). Doesn't seem like there's any recourse. Seems like they got us good.

Amazingly clean gym with lots of equipment! There is hardly if ever a wait on what I want to use. There is only one hamstring machine so sometimes it is occupied but there's usually something open nearby so I'll just pop on that for 10 mins and wait till it frees up.
The staff is kind and helpful.
The monthly fee is inexpensive. I got in on a sale. There is a free 2 weeks that you should take advantage of. I got a Father's Day special and it appears that they have major holiday sales regularly.

REALLY disappointed with the customer service at this location. I left my Garmin watch ($400+) a couple weeks back and called to confirm it was there. Attendant said they had it and come by whenever to get it..

Two weeks later I stop by they and THREW IT AWAY.. The attendant I called never said anything about clearing their Lost and Found every two weeks. They said nothing can be done and it is what it is. Who does that??? I hope one of the trainers is wearing it rather than knowing half my rent was thrown in the trash with no notice...... throw out in 6 months? understandable.... 2 weeks?? utterly ridiculous...

I have truly enjoyed my time at this gym while I’ve worked here in Dallas. Great equipment with a wide variety to choose from. Had a training session with Jonathon and he was fantastic, showed me some variations on exercises that I really liked and helped me with mistakes I was making with my form. If I work in Dallas again I’m definitely coming here again.

Damn!!! I’ve been ACTIVE my entire life and somehow caught a cramp in my forearm within the first ten minutes of my workout. I run straight over to Dana and cry for help (I didn’t actually cry, but ykwim). IMMEDIATELY Dana knew what to do, “ummm aminos fool” she proclaimed. I snagged a water bottle, walked back over to Dana, and happily accepted a scoop of amino acid from her. Sure enough, ya boy was back up and running after just a few short minutes of forearm warm-up. Thanks Dana!! You da best!!

The machines are very uncomfortable, And are placed so awkwardly. Tried the 15 day pass, and it's a No from me, Also finding parking is horrible. It seems the workout setup is all over the place.

Definitely a gym to recommend, moved here from 24hr fitness and I would say the environment and machines are better for anyone looking to start or continue your fitness journey 🤝🏽 shout out Bryan the front desk employee very helpful.

Just moved to Dallas and was looking for a gym to start going to and came across Texas Family Fitness. Super clean facility, very nice staff. Tim was super helpful in helping me find the right membership for myself. Very excited to start coming here

Love this gym. It's perfect for me. I recently left planet fitness to start working out here. Nothing against PF in general, but TFF offers much more in terms of equipment, classes, and individual workout rooms and space. Membership is very competitive. The only knock, I guess, is that it's not open 24 hrs. I dont work out late at night, so it's perfect for me.
