Highly recommend joining this gym for detailed coaching and support similar to personal training but in a group class setting. The Backwoods CrossFit has been part of one of the most positive changes I’ve ever made. I was never able to stick to a workout routine for more than a couple of months, but after a friend convinced me to try CrossFit that all changed. Having a planned workout every day that can be modified to work for me, and the accountability of the group setting has kept me motivated to continue going back consistently for over 3 years now! If you’re looking for a CrossFit gym that feels like home—assuming your home is full of insanely strong, supportive, slightly crazy people who cheer for you even when you’re on the verge of collapsing—then The Backwoods CrossFit is the place to be.

First, let’s talk about Coach Kirbie. I’m 97% convinced she’s part drill sergeant, part therapist, and part wizard. Her dedication to our progress—both as athletes and as humans—should honestly be studied by scientists. She somehow knows exactly when to push you harder and when to remind you that your worth isn’t measured by your PR (but also, she’ll help you hit that PR anyway). She cares just as much about our mindset as she does our muscle, and honestly, that’s rare.

The people here? Absolute legends. From all walks of life, all fitness levels, and yet somehow, they all share the same incredible ability to uplift and encourage. One minute, you’re dying mid-workout, and the next, someone’s yelling, “YOU GOT THIS!” like you’re in the final seconds of a championship game. You’ll find lifelong friends here—or at the very least, people who will text you at 5 AM asking why you’re not at class.

And let’s be real—there’s something magical about a gym where people celebrate burpees (yes, really) and casually talk about deadlifts over coffee. If you want a place where you’ll get stronger, laugh harder, and maybe cry a little (in a good way), The Backwoods CrossFit is it.

10/10 would recommend. 12/10 if you like sweat, sarcasm, and serious results.

Joining this community last August has become the best decision for my mental & physical health. The owner & coaches are the most supportive, understanding & approachable around. The workouts are always taught in a well structured environment with opportunities to scale back or adjust based on the individual needs. Excellent gym! I've visited and been a member of several CrossFit gyms, and have a couple years experience as CF L1 Instructor. I can say, with full confidence, The Backwoods CrossFit is among the best boxes I've ever been to. I'm happily a member now!
Coach Kirbie is an awesome coach. She coaches form over weight, and is very diligent about checking in with each class member for any injuries/limitations she needs to be aware of. But, don't be fooled, she will push you and make you be a better, fitter, version of yourself. Safely, of course.
The members are wonderful people also, very welcoming, which is important because stepping into a CrossFit box for the first time can be intimidating. Not so at The BackWoods CrossFit. I can't say enough good things. Great, great place. You're still reading this? Just go check it out!!

I am the guy that used to make fun of CrossFit. My girlfriend had been talking me into it, but I was scared and nervous. You should not be either. I am SOOOO thankful that I made the decision to go. I am addicted. Kirbie and her dedication to pushing you past what you thought were your limits, have already changed my life. I came during “bring a friend” week and I fell in love with the CrossFit challenge. It was my first time trying CrossFit and it’s not as easy as I thought it would be but the community helps you finish the workout you started. Coach Kirbie is hands on and very knowledgeable. A lot of the workouts were new to me and the step by step instruction makes every workout doable. Coach Kirbie encourages you to do the workout at your own speed (while still making it challenging) until your form is stable enough to make the exercise more challenging. I wish I tried CrossFit sooner but I’m happy that I started at this gym and you will be too.

I didn’t see the 10 star review option but i suppose 5 will do. Backwoods CrossFit is such an amazing community, the people and the coaches are awesome. I moved here from corpus and I couldn’t have found a better box to go to! I looked at other ones in the area but the fact that Backwoods has such amazing coaching along with extra support like snatch clinics, gymnastic seminars, pelvic floor classes I mean the list goes on! The owner Kirbie truly cares about the safety and progress of each members individual goals, which is why she adds the extra 1-on-1 time and events for people to get better while maintaining safety and integrity of their body. Snatches terrified me but after the clinic we just had I can say I feel much better about doing them and I’m no longer afraid of the movement if it comes up in a workout! I HIGHLY recommend this place if you’re looking for motivation, a family-like community, accountability, progression, great coaching and programming along with safety of your body while learning new skills THIS IS THE PLACE !!!! Don’t sleep on it come and try it out!!

I started going to BackWoods CrossFit recently. I chose it because it is closest to my home. I later was asked if I was going to try the others to compare and I said no. Here’s why…I have run 4 full marathons, half marathons, was certified as a BodyPump Instructor, Insanity Instructor, Spartan Beast Killington finisher, and have been involved in fitness since I was a kid. The owner, Kirbie, is so knowledgeable and so patient and fun that I have no need to try anywhere else. The people there are of all levels beginner to advanced and all so friendly and welcoming. I was looking for a community to motivate me and have fun with and I found it! I have learned things in the first week I never knew in all my years of fitness. Kirbie is awesome. You will love her. I highly recommend checking it out for your free trial. You will be hooked!

I’m actually excited to wake up at 4:30am. (Don’t worry, there are later classes too!)

What I THOUGHT Crossfit class would be (based on what people who never did it told me): “You’ll destroy your body for an hour doing injury-prone military exercises your body isn’t ready for.”

What it has really been:
-Friendly people excited you’re there.
-2-3mins discussing the workout.
-5-10mins stretching/mobility work and warm-up.
-10-12 mins dedicated focus on good form and body mechanics for the upcoming movements. (Individual coaching EVERY CLASS)
-7-10mins practicing movements with weight, adjusting for your fitness level.
-2-3 mins for water/restroom/high fives
-5-25mins. GO!! Actual intense workout of the day (WOD).
-5 mins. Cool down/stretch (maybe some lying down & gasping), camaraderie in the suffering, group clean-up, get your name & time/record on the white board, feel proud. You did it.

The BackWoods Crossfit, unlike some other Crossfit gyms I looked into, offers a full week for free. I tried it thinking I might like it. I didn’t know I would love it.

Coach Kirbie (Owner) is knowledgeable, driven, and very positive. She’s attentive to each person and pushes you past limiting beliefs, helping you do more than you thought you could while prioritizing your safety.

Again, the first week is free. All types of people are here with all kinds of goals. Come try it!

Hello my name is Kyle i have been lifting and training for more more than 20 years. I have been to and seen many CrossFit gyms come and go all around. I have always had a hard time agreeing with there training due to the way the gym was run or due to lack of knowledge of the trainer, due to the fact i am more into the strict lifting aspect and classic body building.. The sport overall is a great sport and very beneficial to people looking to make a positive change in there life. I went to Backwoods for the first time because my fiancé loves the sport and has been looking for a good gym to train at. She told me how the owner Kirby was very knowledgeable and made sure everyone had good form and technique when performing the exercises. I have went a few times and found it to be one of the best CrossFit gyms I have been to. The people there are very friendly and Kirby is very passionate about people getting the most out of the experience. The facility is nice and all the equipment is in amazing condition. So if you are looking for a community gym building a healthy life and great friends and people i highly recommend giving it a try you will not be disappointed.

I have never done anything like this before. My menopause nutritionist send me to crossfit and I had no idea of what to expect or what to do. From day one, everyone has been so supportive and encouraging. Kirbie is amazing, with a wide set of skills and experience to give you support and advice. I've been enjoying CrossFit since 2015, and I've travelled to many gyms during that time. Not taking away from any of the good facilities that I've trained at, but The BackWoods CrossFit is hands down the best exepreince I've had. It's a cool space with cool people. I have been working out for 3 years at different gyms with different coaches, however the progress I made in just 3 months (this Summer) of training in the BackWoods Crossfit outperforms everything I had before mainly because of my Coach and dedication. I was able to make record numbers on many different RX exercises in 2-3 weeks of getting used to. It takes time to accommodate to some movements, but the Coach: Kirbie Standley is a professional and will never push you over the limit, she has different approach to every member and I can’t recommend her enough, especially if you are beginning your fitness lifestyle. The Backwoods Crossfit helps not just beginners, but people with experience also, you choose how hard you want to go every day, and there are always modifications to the exercises for occasions like soreness, pain etc. Great place to start and even better to continue improving your body and health.

A couple of friends prodded me for months to come check out BackWoods. I was hesitant because I wasn’t sure I could get back into that CF mentality given old injuries. I did CF in a previous season of life and loved it, but found myself injured working to lift more at each benchmark. After doing OTF for 4 years I needed something new. I tried The BackWoods Cross Fit and quickly found out that Kirbie’s gym is a great place. She’s done a great job helping scale a lot of workouts for me given those old injuries. It’s a gym filled with folks who are wanting a great workout but aren’t trying to win the CF games. The feeling that I had to compete with myself and mash every workout kept me from going back to CF for a long time. So I’m glad I’m back at it. I felt welcomed by the community and any nerves I had with starting CrossFit faded fast. Kirbie is an awesome, highly knowledgable coach who scales workouts to your fitness ability and is invested in helping you reach your goals. Importantly, Kirbie emphasizes safety by focusing on form and technique. The box is also well maintained, fully equipped and kept clean.
Joining The BackWoods CrossFit is hands down the best decision I’ve made in my fitness journey. It is an experience I have found to be far more rewarding than a traditional gym. I would strongly encourage anyone thinking about trying CrossFit for the first time to join the wonderful, supportive community and exceptional coaching at The BackWoods CrossFit.

I dropped into the gym from Indiana... from the second I walked in I felt like home.. the facility is outstanding. Very clean and organized. We were welcomed by the coach and owner. I have enjoyed working out at the Back Woods Crossfit . I have been there since it opened in August 2022. The owner, Kirbie, really pays attention to things like safety and form. She’s also a very nice person. Let’s say that she’s extremely knowledgeable and approaches health, wealth and wellness and fitness From a very balanced and well rounded standpoint. I really like the programming and the location is super convenient. I take my daughter to dance right there at The Dance Vault and then just go there and get my workout in. Love that! I think the thing I like most about working out there, is that there are no giant egos, and no one needs to feel intimidated to go work out there. The people are really genuinely nice.

Kirby has been a CrossFit instructor for me for several years. She focuses on technique and working some rarely used stabilizer muscles. It’s an excellent workout and compliment to my daily swim.
