The Bandit is a very good golf course. John Doria, pro coach does an amazing job of explaining the game and teaches the game by observing and giving feedback on some ways to improve your play, unlike many professional coaches who try to reinvent how you play. I find John to be easy to learn from and he has helped me improve my game.
As for the course, they do a great job of maintaining the course and the carts.

I enjoy the course and staff are friendly, BUT pace of play is a real problem. 5 hours to play, spending most of the time sitting in the cart, due to fivesomes, 8 minute tee times and no Marshall to speed up high handicap groups searching for balls

Drove from Rockwall, Texas for a 220 confirmed teatime to be told they didn’t see it and then when we showed it to him, they said oh our fault tournament running late still couldn’t get us out by 4 o’clock management at this club is ridiculous. Don’t waste your time

Course is in good shape and is fun to play but seems like they try and book as many tee times as possible and pace of play is a nightmare. Constantly backed up and no marshall there to control. Pulled up to tee box, multiple times, and had 2 other groups waiting to tee off. Have had this happen multiple occasions

Had a great time playing the Bandit.
5-Star for the course given its late August in Texas
5-Star for the Pro Shop and Range
2-Star for the grill! We literally waited 25 minutes for burgers that were not edible. And, the service staff at the grill was not good.
I’d highly recommend the course! Just take your group somewhere in town for lunch and beers afterwards.

I recently hosted a Fore Girls Golf & Social Club event at The Bandit Golf Course, and it could not have been a better experience! The course was in fantastic condition and made for such a fun and welcoming environment for our group. A special shout-out to John Doria for going above and beyond—his support in running the event and sharing his golf expertise truly made the day memorable. The Bandit is not only a beautiful course but also an amazing partner for community events. Can’t wait to be back!

Way too expensive for what you get. My dad and I were in San Antonio for the weekend and played three courses: Canyon Springs, Olympia Hills, and The Bandit. Out of the three, The Bandit was by far the worst.
Tom at the pro shop ruined the whole experience. We showed up an hour before our tee time (new course didn't wanted to be rushed and wanted to warm up a bit) and asked a few simple questions since it was our first time there—where are the carts, bathrooms, and the range. You’d think we asked him to help us move a couch. Very bothered that we were even there. Not the way you want to start a round or have as a first impression at a golf course
The course itself? Meh. Just okay, definitely not worth the price. Olympia Hills blows it out of the water for way less money, and Canyon Springs was way better too.
Bottom line: overpriced, average course, and bad customer service. With all the other options around San Antonio, I’d skip this place. Not sure why they let Tom work there and he is the main reason we are not coming back. For reference we are 12 and 15 handicap so we are not new to golf.
Olympia Hills is a great course and right now its set up perfectly.

This place has some good bones but I had a rough time playing Took almost five hours to finish a round, First 9 holes alone took three hours there are too many people booked and the fairways were very hard. Maintenance guys were working right on the greens while we were trying to play. For what they charge I expected better but the greens are in bad shape I can’t say I’d come back there are plenty of better courses nearby to spend your money on

My son left his wallet in the lower cubby in his cart today. He is completely responsible for that mistake however when he returned an hour later the wallet was in the same place and only $200 of cash had been removed. The cart guys that retrieved the wallet were kind and did search for the missing cash without any luck. My son went in to speak to the manager but was told there was nothing that could be done. I understand that returning the money may not be possible but I feel much more could have been done. You clearly have someone working for you that is dishonest, as a manager that should be more of a concern for you. Your employees are a direct representation of you and your business. Their professionalism and integrity is your responsibility. Again, I realize that my son should have gathered his belongings prior to leaving but that is no excuse for theft.

I recently took the Learn to Play Golf class series with John. The class series was a 6 week course every Saturday, at the Bandit Golf Club. (There are also classes on Thursdays which allows flexibility.) The first week we started with basics and as the weeks went by we learned more and worked on other skills (putting, chipping, grip, posture, different clubs and what they are used for. etc). Our class size was around 6- 8 people at a time, which allowed for 1:1 coaching as well.
I have no previous golf experience and was on the fence of taking lessons, but John was the best golf instructor ever! Very knowledgeable, supportive, and made golf a lot of fun. Also, because of my lessons I decided to continue golf and a lot more confident. 10 out of 10 recommend and honestly the price for a 6 week course was not bad at all.
The golf course is also nice and great facility!

It has taken 3 hours to play the front 9. Over 300 golfers on the course. That's an average of 16.6 players a hole. Literally had 4 groups waiting to tee off most of the time. While it is a beautiful and challenging course, it seems like they are more concerned about making money than allowing their golfers to have a great time. You've lost our business!

The Bandit Golf Club is nestled between the oasis that is Marion and New Braunfels. A club that boasts a raccoon as its mascot. Fittingly so, just as quickly as you think you’ve done right, the course will reach its little hand out and steal your ball away for a rainy day. The course is full of elevated greens and deceitful carries, requesting the utmost accuracy from even the seasoned members of the tour. Undulating fairways and greens can be both friend and foe. Be sure to bring a good eye to the course. Greens roll up to a 14 on the stimp and grain filled putts are sure to make you second guess. Lag putting and smart leaves will be necessary to make par when approaches are astray. Nonetheless, an experience like no other, the Bandit golf club, is like candy to a diabetic.

I truly wish I could leave a positive review, as I’ve spent quite a bit of time playing at The Bandit over the years. Unfortunately, I’ve now had two separate instances where I accidentally left a rangefinder on a cart and called the next morning—only to be told it couldn’t be found.
While I take full responsibility for forgetting personal items, what’s most disappointing is the lack of integrity in how these situations have been handled. It’s disheartening to know that lost items aren’t being returned to the pro shop, which speaks volumes about the kind of people being hired to represent your course.
Golf is a game built on honor and respect, both on and off the course. Sadly, that standard doesn’t seem to be reflected here anymore. I won’t be spending any more of my hard-earned money at a facility that doesn’t uphold those values.

As a 78 year old man new to the game of golf, I had my doubts going in as to what I was going to be able to accomplish. It wasn't long after I started lessons with John Doria at The Bandit Golf Club that I realized it was possible to learn the game and learn it the right way. John has brought me along at a pace that worked perfectly for me. He also fitted me with some new clubs so I don't have a bagful of clubs I don't need. I'm very pleased with the Calloways. John has a smooth and calm way of teaching. He doesn't push or make you feel uncomfortable if you hit shots thin or fat or roll one off the tee. I highly recommend John Doria, regardless of your skills or ability.

I called Brad and had a conversation with him. It appeared I wasted his time after writing him the below email. I had to text him to ask for a response to my email. He explain to me how my concern was heard but your round did not take close to 6hrs and that this is what people do on the 18th hole. This happened for several holes, by the way. I was explained to how we teed off 15 minutes late and how no one else complained, except our group. It’s obvious that your customer service skills and approach with customers is not a strong point of the GM. A simple, sorry for what happened and let’s see if we can make this right. This review would have been totally different. Hopefully you get it right for the next customer. Unhappy and Disappointed Veteran, Darrell
Subject: Unhappy and Disappointed Guest
Good afternoon Brad. My name is Darrell Foreman. CC’d on this correspondence are my playing partners from Saturday morning, Curtis Collins and Willie Harris. Our tee time was 1036. I am just going to get right to it Brad. Saturday’s round was probably one of the worst golf experiences that I have ever encountered.
When started we were informed that we were going to start a bit late. When we arrived we noticed that ther was a large congregation of people on the tee box. So we were aware there was a large group teeing off in front of us. My playing mate, Curtis, made mention to the starter about the concern of pace of play. The starter made it clear to us at this point that the course monitors pace of play closely from the clubhouse. Based on those comments, we assumed that a course Marshall would come out and address any slow play. That assumption was incorrect. We saw no marshal for the entire, approximately 6hr round. We waited upwards of 20-30 minutes on a few holes.
This brings us back to the large group that was teeing off in front of us. Several of the holes that we were able to see, revealed that the entire group was playing together. The pictures attached provides validation to this statement. Pictures are worth 1000 words. Not only did this group affect the pace of play but the loud music, heard several holes away, was extremely disruptive. Most of us now have music on our carts but we would expect people to be considerate of others. We should not have been able to hear their music 3-4 holes over. The 4some that was in front of us was as disappointed as we were. Not sure if they complained as well as the group behind us.
Brad it does not bring us any joy to take time out of our day to reach out to you about this matter but this is not what one should expect playing this caliber of course and for the amount paid to play this premium course.
Brad just to close things out. This was a horrible golf experience. Disappointment would be an understatement. The course was in great shape, except the obvious gouge on the green, on the back 9. Short par 4. It appeared someone had taken some severe frustration out on the course, with their putter.
We would like to hear from you Brad, this week, on how this horrible experience can be rectified. Please feel free to reach out to us via this email. If you need to setup a call I am pretty sure that either us will be more than happy to chat with you about this experience. I would recommend that you reach out to the group that was in front of us and behind us for their feedback, as well.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you.

Went to play this course today. This course is in great shape. Has nice thick turf, greens are in great shape with zero bare spots, and the scenery is beautiful. I paid $95 to play today which I think was fair based on the conditions and how busy they were.
Prices elsewhere were higher than what I find to be acceptable. I am from out of state and needed clubs, balls, tees, sunblock, and also a glove. I also bought a can coozie with the course logo. This added $175 to my round. The clubs were $65 and were not even clean from the last round. The most I have ever paid for rental clubs was $35. The balls I choose are the callaway e.r.c. soft and was charged $52 for those. Usually about $35 everywhere else I buy them. I get a little mark up but that seems excessive to me. I in town for 2 more weeks on business and because of the extra cost, I will not be back.
Hell for an extra 150 I could have played TPC San Antonio.

Exceptional Instruction from a True Professional!
I had the pleasure of working with John Doria to refine my golf game, and I couldn't be happier with the results. His deep understanding of the game, combined with clear and effective teaching methods, helped me improve significantly in just a few sessions.
John not only corrected my swing mechanics but also provided valuable insights into course management and mental approach, which have made a real difference in my consistency and confidence on the course. His passion for golf is contagious, and his dedication to helping students achieve their goals is truly inspiring.
Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the fundamentals or an experienced player aiming to shave off strokes, I highly recommend John Doria. You won't find a more committed, knowledgeable, and supportive instructor anywhere else.
Thank you again for everything!

This is not a review about the course shape, but one of course management. Played Saturday and had to quit after 4 hours with 5 holes left to play due to no marshalling of the course. I would say everyone and everyplace needs a second chance, but something needs to change at the course due to the persistence of allowing extremely slow play. This is absolutely one of my favorite places to play, but I'm very reluctant to book a tee time here due to the pace of play allowed. Worst part about it is when you mention it to the staff they act like we should just deal with it as if it is a privilege to get to play the course.

- the water jugs every how many holes are always empty.

If I could leave a negative star review, I would. My husband and son-in-laws played there yesterday and it was a complete joke. They had a tee time at 3:40. When they got there the staff told them there were no carts available because they had a tournament going on. They finally got one about 4:10. Then when they went to tee off there were 16 people ahead of them to tee off. It took them 3 hours to finish the front nine. They decided to go back because it was getting late. They asked the person in front if they could get a rain check for the back nine. They were told they weren't allowed to and management had already left. How convenient. My husband called this morning to talk to the manager Brad Sexson. He told them he couldn't give them a rain check. All of this was due to poor management and over booking. Their course is also a joke. All of the front nine had spotty grass, there were big areas of nothing but mud. They charge way too much for the poor greens and horrible management. Don't go here. Go to Starcke, Landa or Kissing Tree nearby.

This golf course is a joke. You pay way too much to golf here. Their greens are terrible. The maintenance of the course is a joke. They constantly overbook their course. It took 3 hours to finish the first 9 holes because of an overbooking. Then when we called the manager Brad Sexson, he was rude on the phone and told us we couldn’t get a rain check for the back 9 even though the overbooking was due to HIS TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT.
Can’t imagine charging so much money only to have a terrible golf course run by terrible people. Save your money. There are plenty of other courses in the surrounding area to go to.

Fun and challenging track but some grass issues throughout on fairways, greens and tee boxes. #9 green was the definitely the worst, very patchy and not grown out, borderline unplayable. They were doing some maintenance on it as we played through so potentially just a temporary issue. Some greens seemed to be cut different than others, was difficult to gauge speed.
Back 9 greens were better and more true, 16,17, and 18 greens were great. Most tee boxes need some work to flatten out and get less patchy. Grass growth around the greens was shotty too, mud/hardpack dirt were common occurrences. Ended up putting most of my short chips.
All in all, a very fun course layout with a friendly staff. It’s a Tough walk, as it’s quite a ways between some holes and more hilly than I remember, but they let me swap to a cart after 9 no problem. Course Marshalls were great too, they did a great job making sure everyone was as keeping pace.
**teed off at 8:04, there seemed to be heavy dew and fog overnight which probably made for more muddy conditions than typical. Probably a better mid-day/afternoon track once it has a chance to dry out a bit.

I took one lesson of golf from John Doria and he is the best golf coach I have ever had.
In one hour, John provided me with pointers on my pitching, putting, and sand trap play.
John told me that if I followed his lesson up with some practice I could cut at least six strokes off my game - immediately.
I did as instructed. I usually hit between 48-52 for nine holes. Yesterday, I shot a 37 after 8 holes before the rain came and we had to quit.
John is not only a great instructor but he is patient and a great listener too. He wanted to know what I wanted to work on NOT what he wanted to do. Thank you very much, John.
I have already referred one person to you. I wil be back in Texas in May and you’re the first person I’m calling to set up my next lesson.

I have always enjoyed the course layout, and I like the fact that the front and back nines have been reversed. The thing I did not enjoy, was the lack of any grass around the greens, and the greens were in very bad shape. Only three greens are what I consider to be in good shape. The course conditions are just not good enough for the rate that you have to pay on weekends. Some tee boxes were so hard you could barely get a tee in the ground. With the elevated greens here chipping is critical and the ground in the area of about 30 yards around most greens are rock hard. I could not get wedges under the ball as they were so hard, my club just skidded on the ground and bladed as a result. I have even learned to take a very steep swing as hard condition at my home course bunkers have forced me to learn that shot. People we played with had numerous “chips” that just skidded across the green into the rough on the other side of the green. Pace of play is an issue, 4.5 hours for us even though the marshal had the group in front of us skip 9, a par 5. We caught that group again at 12 and waited on every hole.

So the golf was good the food was not.

The Bandit is usually in great shape, but not right now. The greens were good, the tee boxes not bad, but the fairways were the worst I've seen them in over 19 years of playing the course. They were soaked, tightly cut and dormant ... almost like playing on bare ground. Perhaps they should close or go cart-path only until they dry-out and recover. All understandable for this time of year and after a couple of days of rain, but definitely not worth the $100+ green fee,

It took from 2012 to 2024 for a return visit.
The course was still fun, even during the winter month of January. Not as lush as i remember in the summer.
Front 9 is more challenging. You will find trouble off the tee if you don't choose the right club. Driver is not always the option. the ball will run out and find that one creek or tree to be in the way.
Back 9 more forgiving, straight forward.
Hopefully, the 3rd visit doesn't take 12 years.

I have been taking the Learn To Play Golf Course at The Bandit with John. He is an excellent teacher and I have improved my skills significantly. I could barely hit with an iron before I started and I was able to hit my ball on the green with an iron from about 100 yds away. I look forward to taking the 2.0 class! I highly recommend!

Would leave 0 stars if I could. I wanted to book a tee time as a single, but their idiotic policy is that singles cannot book tee times. You have to walk on, and pray that you can get paired with someone. There was a 740 am tee time available with 2 positions, and they said I could show up around 1045 and wait to be paired up with someone. I didn't know golf courses didn't want to take my money. I didn't realize I would be penalized and rejected from their golf course if I tried to play by myself. I don't have the luxury or the patience to drive over an hour from Austin, sit around and wait until they tell me I can play. I would be happy to go and give them my money if they didn't have this asinine policy in place, but I am not rolling the dice on being able to play, nor will I wait 3 hours after an available tee time to play, especially given their apparent slow play issues I read about in other reviews.I do love this course and want to play it as I don't get the chance often, but this is disappointing they are conducting business this way, turning away money from single golfers in the hopes of making more money. I get that a business' prime goal is to make money but that doesn't mean that this isn't stupid.

Really nice course. Great shape. Several risk/reward holes. Lots of streams, trees and creeks come into play. Several with elevation changes. Pro shop well stocked. Snack bar on site. Cart girl and rest of staff very friendly. Good sized driving range. Two putting areas. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Frustrated, but not disappointed 😁

Played on 7/8/23. Course is in great shape as always. Greens are very slow for Bandit Standards but understand due to the heat. They still roll very well and are consistent on all holes. They are still having issues with pace of play. We ended up quitting after 15 holes. Front nine was not too bad. 2 hours 35 minutes but the back was brutal. Coming up to 15 there were 5 groups on the hole. Group on at the green, group in fairway, group on tee and a group waiting then us. It was pretty much like that the entire back 9. I don't mind paying close to $100 for a round n the weekend at one of the best courses in town.. Apparently everyone else feels the same.. Maybe up the price to $115 on the weekend lol. Too much of a good thing. I won't be playing here on the weekends any more.....Too bad because the Bandit really is a great place to play. Plus is the cart girls were on top of it. Since it was so slow I think we saw them on every hole... :) . Super friendly and of course the mango iced towels.

Had a fantastic weekend of golf for a group of 16 guys at The Bandit. It was hot (100 degrees), but they have plenty of water stations and cold towels on the course, and the cart girls drove by super-frequently and kept everyone well-stocked with ice and beverages. Can't say enough about the staff at The Bandit - they are welcoming, friendly, and very helpful. And the course itself was terrific - challenging (especially when the wind really kicked up), fair, and fun (well, maybe except for #14 - I still haven't figured out a good way to play it). There are a handful of tee boxes that they've lost the grass on at the moment, but the rest of the course was in great shape, especially the greens, which can be tricky. We enjoyed the heck out of our three rounds there, even as hot as it was.

Great course and price. Every bit as good as a private hill country course. Met in parking lot by staff with a cart and didn't have to walk to clubhouse. Course fantastic and difficult, fun, tricky. Fairways and Rough was just punched so it'll get better. Greens fantastic except few spots worn where people walk onto greens from cart which is normal this time year. New rule implemented a few months ago no 5 somes except members helps pace. Marshall's are all over the knuckleheads. Better than Onion creek IMO. Comparable to Sonterra north course or Vaaler in Blanco or Wolfdancer in Bastrop and less expensive. I'll be back for sure

Fairways were aerated and was not told about this when booking tee time. Pace of play was incredibly slow. We were a twosome stuck behind a foursome playing a scramble. Waited on every shot. They saw us and never let us play through. The Marshall said he would talk to them, but never did. We eventually had to skip a hole to pass them. We will not be going back.

Cool course tucked in the back of a subdivision that is both tough and scenic. Hills, water, traps are obstacles but plenty of great shots for good golfers. a good place for me to lose plenty of balls. Give these guys a shot and you will be happy you did. My only challenge was some of the fairways were being aerated while we were playing so there was some trouble on the fairways.

Love the golf course. Really nice condition. Expensive but worth the price. Except...
Started 20 minutes after scheduled tee time. Took 3 hours to play 9 holes. My partners were all 40+ handicaps, so we would have been a slow group. But we waited to hit every shot. NO MARSHALS WERE SEEN ON THE COURSE TO HELP.
We helped ease the congestion by quitting after 9 holes because we did not have time or patience to play a 6 hour round

The newest trend in golf....Fivesomes and The Bandit is leading the way. During our 5.5 hour round, we had two of these groups in front of us. Added bonus, two jokers hitting into our backs. It's been my experience, similar conditions and golfing faster rounds at Vaaler Creek, Kissing Tree and Landa Park. Their tee times are spaced 10 minutes apart, The Bandit is only 8 minutes...it makes a difference.

Nice course, decent shape, friendly employees. Experience was below average though. The course was over booked. We took over 3 hours to play the front 9. Can’t say how long 18 took because we picked up after 5 hours with several holes to play. We had to wait on a six some playing in front of us….and they were waiting on the group ahead of them, who was waiting on the group ahead of them, and so on and so on. I live in Minnesota and was visiting San Antonio, looking forward to playing. No fun and hard to get into a rhythm when waiting 5-10 minutes on EVERY shot. Would not risk playing here again.

We want to go back and play the course again as the staff and course condition were great considering it was the end of November. What stops me from giving more stars was the pace of play which was frustrating. We found ourselves arriving at the next tee box prior to the couple in front teeing off and the folks behind up arriving before we were clear to go. A lot of twosomes that could be paired up and we also noticed a sixsome a few holes ahead which would definitely slow things down.
