The Bar Method Houston - Montrose is a boutique fitness studio offering barre classes for students of all levels. The signature method uses your own body weight, the ballet barre and a few props to create a transformative workout that results in long, lean sculpted muscles. Not only does it reshape your entire body, but it allows you to channel your inner strength and leave class feeling strong, confident and poised. Highly-trained instructors customize the exercises to ensure they are safe and effective for any age and every body, including modifications for pregnant women and students with injuries. I’m glad I found this place. I have been looking for exercise classes that match me the most for years. I couldn’t really find one but finally found the bar method. I love everything here, the exercise and the community it makes me feel like home. Almost four years ago, I found The Bar Method on the internet and signed up for a month of classes. I really liked it; now I love it. I cannot imagine a week without Bar. The instructors, the front desk team, owner Rachel, even the studio all feel so welcoming. I'm hooked!

UPDATE: August of 2023 marked eight years of membership at The Bar Method. I discovered the classes when I was looking for a no-impact workout. I had no idea how much it would change my body and my mind. I'm more toned than ever and constantly challenged in class. The cherry on top is the amazing community here and the incredible friends I've made.

UPDATE: August of 2025 will mark ten years as a client at The Bar Method. A lot has changed in that time (even changing owners!) but the challenges this workout offers, the amazing staff and the wonderful friendships have stayed delightfully the same.

Five stars isn’t enough to express how much love I have for Bar Method, and in particular, the Montrose studio! The owners, staff, and instructors are all welcoming, friendly, and personable. I very much appreciate that the instructors pay close attention to your form. The studio is always clean and has plenty of parking.

I’ve been a member here for a couple of years and have seen major improvements in my posture, flexibility, strength, & endurance. On top of that, these low-impact workouts help me manage the pain from my fibromyalgia. I highly recommend for anyone - the classes are fun and challenging in the best way!

I’ve been going to this studio for a little over two years, and I go pretty much every day!! The classes are challenging, and the different formats keep it fun and interesting. The formats are spread out in a way where I can easily take a variety of classes every week: Bar Method (the original), Bar Cardio (the fast-paced cardio class), Bar Flow (the half barre have yoga flow class) and Bar Strength (the strength training class with heavier weights)! The community is AMAZING and so welcoming, and the instructors are all super motivating and kind :) The studio is clean and pretty too (with a super nice locker room with showers! Huge plus)

I love both the Bar Method and this studio in particular! The workouts are challenging but fun. While I appreciate many things, I really value the emphasis on form. The corrections offered by the instructors are intended to help you maximize the workout but also keep your body safe and prevent injury. Another thing I love about the workout is that while the moves may become more familiar overtime, every class is a challenge! No two classes are exactly alike, which helps keep you engaged both physically and mentally. I have noticed a positive change in my body and a huge change in my mental clarity and strength. Additionally, this studio does a really nice job of being friendly and inclusive. People of all shapes, sizes, ages, and genders attend these classes, which speaks to the atmosphere fostered by the studio. The instructors and desk staff are welcoming, supportive, and encouraging, as are the people taking the classes. I highly recommend this studio!

It all started with a classpass credit and I’m hooked. I’m on my fitness journey (aren’t we all) and find that the definition on my legs and arms are most likely from bar method! The classes are of course, intense but focus on very tiny muscle movements. All of the instructors are amazing and will correct you in a conducive manner to help you!!!
It really is not intimidating at all, all the people in class are so friendly too. They offer schedules that work really well with my WFH flexibility but also early morning/evening classes too.

If you’re thinking of taking a barre class, I would definitely recommend The Bar Method! I did my first barre class with Courtney and she was amazing! She made class easy to follow. She took the time to ensure my posture was correct and made me feel comfortable. It was nice and challenging class where I definitely felt the burn/shakes. I’m nearing 600 classes and I’m still just as excited to walk into the studio now as I was for my first class.
The targeted workouts have not only been great for my body, but for my mind. Whenever I walk into class, I know that I have 45-60 minutes of dedicated time just for me. It also gives me a chance to escape, which is meditative and therapeutic.
The instructors at the Montrose studio, many of whom are now friends, are amazing, fun and so encouraging. I now go to class ~four days a week and it truly is my happy place. Definitely check out the studio and take a class, you won’t regret it.

Bar Method Montrose is a great place to get a rigorous workout and become part of a diverse, welcoming community. The traditional Bar Method classes are a great place to start with varying exercises carefully chosen to strengthen and tone muscle groups from top to toes. BM caught my attention due to its proximity to work. I wasn't ready to commit, however, and found a groupon to start. Procrastination lasted until the month of expiration. I wasn't ready. It's been a long, long time since I exercised. I started in October 2019. It was torture, but exhilarating. I found myself wanting to go more and more. Barely 4 months in, the pandemic happened. I just started back up again in June. It feels like a restart, but I love everything about this place, including their approach to safety. All the instructors are great. The workouts are challenging and I feel stronger after each class.

As someone who is fairly experienced with Barre (200+ classes) I had high expectations for The Bar Method. While the Montrose location is a beautiful studio, a place is only as good as the people in it.

When I walk into a group fitness class, I want to believe that there is something more meaningful to what I'm doing besides burning calories. It is important to find people who you can bond with, and it starts with the instructors. Sadly, the Bar Method style of instruction lacks a purposeful message because the instructors are trained to nitpick every mistake in the room instead of empowering people with a reason to try their best.

In a given 45 minute class, expect to hear an instructor call out names over the microphone for minor adjustments 50+ times per class. After hearing my name called out for the 5th time, I felt embarrassed and lost confidence in my workout. Mentally, I shut down and started going through the motions for the rest of class. The bright smile I carried into the room was wiped clear off my face.

I understand that teaching proper form and posture are important for practicing Barre safely, but enjoying the exercise is too. Bar Method delivers a great workout in a wonderful space, but their message lacks passion and a human touch. If slight changes in teaching style were emphasized to be more uplifting and less critical, this place would feel so much different. For now, I accept Bar Method for what it is, but I hope it will change and grow into something better.

I was in a rut of never working out because I cannot stand the gym. I decided to try Barre. So far it has been a great experience. I can feel so many different areas of my body working which was not the case with past work outs/activities. I feel I am also getting better flexibility and balance. I’ve tried many other gyms, exercise classes and barre studios in Houston and have found, for me, that The Bar Method is by far the most effective workout. I have been attending classes at to the Montrose location for almost 2 years and have never looked back. The classes are not only engaging and challenging, but the instructors make them fun! Their hands on approach to instruction ensures you have the correct form and are getting the maximum benefit out of your workout. For people with injuries or physical limitations, these classes are a great workout because they are low impact, include a lot of stretching and the instructors are very helpful with modifications. I cant stress enough how much i love The Bar Method and the community it has created. The instructors and other members are so friendly and welcoming. I can be having the worst day and take a class and walk out feeling much stronger (mentally and physically). I encourage anyone to sign up for a class and see for themselves!

I have taken so many classes at TBM now and I truly love it. I love that they value stretching over many other studios as a flexible muscle is a strong muscle! The staff learns your name and is very helpful and friendly. I love the style of the classes and everything about it!

I heart Bar Method! In my quest to be fit, I've tried all types of classes and workouts (crossfit, spin classes, yoga at every temperature, etc., etc.), and while they were all good, I found that after a while, my interest and enjoyment would fizzle.
This has not proven to be the case with THE BAR METHOD. It's been over 5 years since my first class, and I still look forward to going to class each day! The instructors are knowledgeable and encouraging, and they do an amazing job of keeping the workouts fresh, engaging, and challenging.

I have been attending Bar Method (Houston-Montrose) consistently for about 18 months. It never gets old, it always pushes me, and I consistently leave in a better place both mentally and physically. Rather than risking injury, this workout actually rehabs injury with its intense focus on stretching and proper form. Bar Method is my lifeline! I try to go 3 times a week. I have been a member of Bar for about four years and as I creep closer to 80 (just a couple of years to go), I have been able to maintain strength and agility. I started Bar Method through Class Pass in the fall of 2018. I frequented many other barre classes for a few months, but ultimately chose to join bar method over the others because of the amazing work out, class times, and the feeling of an personalized workout despite a full class. The barre instructors do a very good job of making you feel comfortable. They are far from being stuck-up or cliquish, which I find extremely important while entering a new fitness studio. A friend's invitation to come to a Bar Method class was heaven-sent. I had been suffering from chronic lower back pain for over 10 years. Had tried yoga, acupuncture, chiropractor, orthopedic shoes, and Rolfing with little benefit. Since core strengthening at the Bar Method Houston and a platelet/growth factor injection, my back has a new lease on life! My pain is 90% diminished and I have newfound physical stamina (i.e. walking, dancing, yard work). At mid-60s, a HUGE blessing!

One time the instructor had me move my foot literally half an inch. They have their favorites and don't seem to have patience with those who are out of shape.

My journey with the Bar Method started with a random Groupon purchase earlier this year. (I am so glad I did!!) After my first class with Rachel, I was immediately convinced that this is going to be part of my life for as long as there is a Bar Method studio nearby. 100 classes later, I find myself stronger, healthier and happier. I have gained flexibility, muscle strength, and look more toned than ever. (LOVE IT!!😆) The studio is very clean and welcoming. Everyone I encounter has always been friendly and genuinely happy to greet and assist you. My favorite part about the workout is that I feel challenged in every class (both mind and body). The instructors pay very close attention and will give hands-on and verbal adjustments which help the work focus on the intended area and prevent injury. Not only have I gained strength and toned muscle, I have become more aware the different muscle groups and how I can work and stretch them at home. I have been taking mostly Claudia and Jennifer's classes due to schedule. I’ve been a member of this studio for about a year and a half now and it’s safe to say I am hooked! Since committing to going regularly, I’ve noticed that a lot of chronic pains I had have gone away and my body is capable of much more physically. I love that the classes are structured so that people of any fitness level can participate, yet there are always ways to make it more challenging through advanced options and classes. The Bar Method instructors go out of their way to provide individualized attention in a group class setting and address everyone by name. Doing so creates a strong sense of community between instructors and students that pours into the connections between students as well. I love coming to The Bar Method. It never feels like a workout since it's dance based. For each muscle we strengthen with small weights or micro movements and then we stretch. I consider the stretches to be mini breaks and it gives me the ability and energy to keep going. All the instructors are fabulous and remember your name. They also are very in tune to your body mechanics thus keeping you safe from injury. I'm loving my new sleek figure and muscle tone. I highly recommend The Bar Method.

I've been coming here for almost two years and I'm a full-blown addict! I always struggled finding whatever I liked best when it came to fitness and the Bar Method was a perfect match for me. The Bar Method has changed my life! I have been a member for over 5 years and it is *still* challenging with the varied class options and the suggested challenge options that are offered in each class. In the 45-60 minute classes that focus on 1 inch movements to make long and lean muscles, the instructors pay close attention to your form and make hands-on adjustments as needed (regardless of how long you've been coming :-)) while making it a safe exercise to practice. I have never been a huge fan of working out. I decided to take a Bar Method class on a whim one day when I had off of work, and have since kept it up 3-4 times a week for almost a month now. It's something I look forward to doing, and has become a staple in my schedule. I braved up in January 2017 and placed a call to the studio. I am so happy Rachel, Owner/Instructor of the The Bar Method Houston-Montrose, accepted my call so many months ago. She invited me to come on in. I am so very glad I did.

Rachel and her crew of instructors have helped me believe in myself. Their encouragement has helped me become strong in a way I did not ever think I could be.

In any given class, the instructor's careful, concise communication is superb. I truly appreciate each instructor's attention to every move during a session. She offers modifications for each move when necessary or offers advance options for some moves for a greater challenge. After every session, the instructor makes herself available to answer questions, too. That makes me want to do more, more often.

You cannot know if this exercise is truly for you, unless you come by to speak with one of these fabulous women at The Bar Method Houston-Montrose. Your first session is cost-free; can't beat that.

The workout is a full body sculpting and toning workout. They offer different class types ranging from 45-60 minutes and range from beginner to advanced levels. I used to hate working out. Like, dreaded it actually. Going to the gym was something I would never be excited about. Nevertheless, I wanted to be in better shape and one of my friends recommended that I try a barre class, so I did. I started my Bar Method monthly membership back in January. I arrived at 6am on a Friday super groggy and a little unsure of what my first barre class would bring. Upon arriving, the instructors were incredibly welcoming and explained how the class works. My first class was challenging to say the least, but I immediately fell in love. I could tell a difference in the shape of my body after a few months and now I look forward to every class. I love how the instructors call you by name for corrections which makes the class feel much more personal. 8 months later, I am in the best shape of my life, and I owe it all to Bar Method. I highly recommend this place!

This workout is for everyone, from the gym nuts to the uncoordinated like myself. They knew my name when I walked in just from seeing it on the class registration (and they already knew everyone else in the class) and helped be acclimate to this type of work out. I'm a runner and a yogi and this was completely different. But they were encouraging and yet not afraid to give instruction and correction that made me feel assisted, not dumb. It usually takes me a few classes of a particular kind of work out to begin to feel comfortable and confident walking in. But at the Bar Method, I will feel comfortable at my next (second time) class! And I'll be confident because I was walked through the first class with a lot of help and I also know instruction or correction will be clear, if needed, and I won't be blundering around. Also, I use ClassPass specifically because I want a well-rounded fitness life, but sometimes I walk into studios that are part of ClassPass and am treated as a second-rate customer even though I pay to ClassPass the same amount that a specific studio would charge per month.

Talk about INTENSE!! I thought I was working my butt off at Crossfit but here it is on another level with little exercises that cut right into the CORE of your ab muscles. These precise little moves that ballerinas do builds those muscles and I truly this class is a great way to pair with a yoga class. The classes uses ballerina bar's to get straight into the workouts and focuses on all parts of the body while incorporating the bar , hence the BAR Method.!
