Good course, well maintained and a very friendly staff. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the pace of play. I ended up combining with two other groups ahead of me because the group in front of us was most likely drunk and definitely playing two shots on every ball. There were four of them and they were not particularly good.

I did not see a Marshall out there, it would have been nice if someone could have told the guys in front of us to hurry it up or even to skip a hole to allow the back up queue to play.

A very disapointing golf trip today at battleground. i booked a tee time here from golf now. i payed the weekend green fees plus 15$ for a rider that dosent play. anyways, i played hole one and went to the second hole and was immediatley stopped due to the line of golfers backed up. luckily the golfers in front of me waiting in line asked me to join. i did. well we were waiting around 10-15 minutes between shots. very slow. then it decided to start raining. i was there around an hour and 15 minutes and only managed to play 4 holes. it gets better. so i went to the clubhouse to get a rain check and was told that i would only recieve 9 holes on my rain check because i played four holes. so they stole 5 holes from me that i payed for! i paid for 18 holes range balls and a rider and drinks. i had 120$ tied up into this mess. for only 4 holes. i told them to keep the raincheck. how awful. i will NEVER be back to this place and i would advise anyone to stay away from it. there are plenty of other courses in the houston area to play.

I would not recommend this course if you like to play at a regular speed. Took my friend and I playing a twosome 6 hours to get through 18 holes of golf. Marshall was no where to be found to keep the pace of play up, sat on every hole for 30 min before I could even hit a tee shot. Drove 50 min to sit is crazy to me.

Our wedding was perfect! Michelle was awesome through the whole planning process! She was there for me every step of the way, giving advice and supporting me. At the reception, the staff were rockstars taking care of our every need and our guests. Hat off to the Chef! The food was excellent...his crab cakes and mushroom risotto are must haves! If you like to sit around on the golf course watching ppl hit for 6+ hours this is the place for you! Literally groups of 5 and 6 in front of us they were riding on the back of carts, called the club house and the extras were walking the course to hide from getting caught. No marshal to help pace of play that might help with pace. Course was decent green were good just wouldn’t come back on weekend with the pace this long.

The clubhouse is very nice. Our wedding reception was here back in 2008 and it was nice then. Tonight we attended a Gala for First Baptist Christian Academy and the place is still really nice even after all these years. They have done well keeping it updated and maintained.

This was my first time at Battleground, and let me tell you I almost cancelled because the reviews were horrible. DON'T base your decision off the reviews. Yes some Tee boxes are rough and hard to place a tee, but uhm we havent had any rain in Texas in so long!! Out of the 18 holes about 3 greens were a little beat up, but fairways were great. This place is amazingly beautiful and the staff was great! I would definitely recommend and I will definitely be coming back soon!!

This was a nice and well ran golf course at one time!!! It’s time to replace management with someone who can get the job done. We played there this weekend.
The snack bar and restaurant were both closed at 9:00 am.
Tee boxes are so hard you can’t get a tee in them.
Place looks like a cow pasture they need to weed eat in several spots
No drinking water on the course temperature was 108 f only a cart girl
Bunkers weren’t raked
Greens have several bad spots on them.
Bay Forest , Pasadena and Gus Wortham are about the same price and don’t have any of these issues.
Won’t ever play here again so disappointed!!

Don't waste your time here. Signed up for a monthly pass for the driving range for $65 a month. Half the time I went, there were no balls. Decided to cancel, and filled out the form stating I wished to cancel, and turned in my key fob for the ball machine. 2 weeks later, I was charged another $65 after I had already canceled. I called to complain and they said cancelation goes into effect 30 days after submitting the form. So basically I canceled and they made me turn in the key fob, charged me again and I can't even use the extra month they charged me for.
Very dishonest people run this place.

The greens all look great so going in right direction. The tee box is dry and every hard to get a tee in ground. Back to greens look better than ones around area the fringe need to clean up some bad grass for golf. Greens are slow golfers in my group had hard enough getting ball to hole. Im Talking about the driving range and practice holes, NOT the actual course but i dont know what it looks like on the course… the driving range is meh it will get the job done but very dry grass especially during the summer! You cant even put a tee down unless you hit off the mat but you cant stick down a tee far enough down to hit off of your irons! Not very good just go to eagle pointe golf course easy 10/10! Now for the practice holes… i would honestly rate them a negative if i could it literally looks like a 7/11 lawn guy came up cut the grass and rolled it but 1000 times worse, literally no greens or fairways like bruh…

People who are complaining about the course conditions are somewhat missing the point - this is an old school muni track and if you compare to Augusta, yea it's a 1 star. But is it a super fun and very playable layout? Yes. Greens aside, the course is usually in pretty good shape although yes it does flood and if you play after record rains, it won't be great.

The greens - yep they have been terrible in the past, they clearly had a fungus (?) issue and just lost the greens. I haven't played this year but from what I've seen, they have pretty much replaced all of the greens and I'd give them another shot.

Special points to the course for trying to do things outside the average. They run a lot of promotions and this past weekend they did a birdhouse event for families and my kids had a blast. It was free, the guy running it was a really nice guy and being there made me realize I need to get a round in soon.

Battleground has a great facility and some very nice holes, but greens are the golf course’s Achilles heel. Played there on 4/14/23. A couple of greens were terrible (sand on green or dead spots) and most are contaminated with a foreign grass strain that makes putting unpredictable. Highly recommend that you take some lessons with the club pro Daren. In a few months, we've shaved 15 strokes off my score. He taught me to strike my irons pure and my friends keep asking how I do it haha.

Most importantly, he taught me to diagnose my mishit patterns so I can make corrections on my own. This helped me to start fixing my slice with driver. I'm also lowering my putting average thanks to Mr. D!

I have never in my 30 year golf career had a worse experience. Our tee time was 30+ minutes behind while we waited for a golf cart! The entire staff was completely lost on what to do. The manager even started an argument with me to explain it wasn't their fault after the starter told us there were 20+ carts out of commission. We only played 9 holes of the 18 we paid for, and were berated from the manager. This place is a joke and cannot be called a golf course. They could give me free rounds for life, and I would never go back. GolfNow needs to drop them immediately especially after
I paid online and my dad, who always beats me to the course, paid in full. We both paid with credit cards and fortunately are protected. Don't waste your precious free time or hard earned money on the worst course in TX. $50 Green fee and a full day off headache is the last thing I want anybody else to endure.

The course was drenched with rainwater. Overall, the course was in good condition where it's most important, which was the fairways and greens. Some of the greens are damaged however, so I just moved my ball around those few spots and off the soaked areas down the fairways.

My grand daughter got married there last week. Most of the staff was very nice and helpful. I was not impressed with the event coordinator Michelle at all. She demonstrated a very condescending attitude to the parents during the set up process. She lacked compassion and this made for a stressful event during set up. She kept repeating herself over and over again about it was a courtesy to do this for us and when it is stated That many times it is overkill. She was very rude! If you consider using battleground, consider using a wedding planner and avoid Michelle. Food was great, room was great. Other staff went out of their way to be accommodating.

Course is 5/10 for it’s up keep, maybe a 6 in the warmer months. It’s the staff and management especially in regards to the practice course and range. Absolutely terrible. Machine is broken 80% of the time or simply locked up for random reasons. If a single grey cloud hits the sky they shut it down.

The practice facility they have has so much potential, especially since it has a 3 hole course and stadium lights and could really bring in more players, however ball machine stays broken or locked up and it’s never open on time (hrs after listed operational hrs). Then when it is finally open it’s swamped with middle school and high school kids who have very little etiquette. Truly is a shame.

Played twilight here. The pro shop was closed so you can’t buy beer after 4pm. The course is in very rough shape. About 50% of the fairways were decent. Almost all of the greens were terrible. As in 40-60% of the green looks like dead grass/ sand. Even made a joke that they added a bunker to the #7 green. And my expectations here are pretty low. But due to its location it’s convenient to stop and play twilight after work. I hope the conditions improve but it’s been pretty rough for the last several years.

Looks like there are lots of folks on here complaining about the greens, and admittedly many of the greens are not in great condition (see pics below). That said, this is still one of my favorite public courses in Houston in terms of course layout and play. Lots of variety and several uniquely fun holes.

Let’s just all be honest with ourselves — it’s not like any of us are good enough that the inconsistencies in the greens are the sole reason that we don’t hit every shot like Bubba Watson… So that leaves variety, price, easy of check-in and pace of play, in which Battleground performs well. It’s a great course!

Got a deal on GolfNow and figured I’d try this course with a buddy. Was a huge mistake! Should have read the reviews prior to booking but oh well. Pictured below is the green to hole #3 (par 3) with the stick hanging out of the hole on possibly one of the worst greens I’ve ever seen.

Feel like I got scammed with the photos of the course on their website/google. Almost all greens were unplayable and looked nothing like what’s advertised.

Went out there to walk, you have to book a time, I do not mind paying because the scenery is nice. A Marshall there said a man was killed somewhere because a ball hit him between his eyes! Watch out! Unique course. Some interesting and challenging holes. The views were different and enjoyable. As of March 2021 the greens were pretty much destroyed from the February freeze and very difficult to play on. As this is in deer park in between all the chemical plants the haze and stench is quite real as well. Will be back another month for sure!

The course was fine but it was not a fun experience. We had 3 above average, sub 90 scoring golfers, and it took 5 hours. The course was way overbooked and people were waiting at every tee box. Usually 2 groups waiting per tee box. Disappointing for $50+ per person per round.

I love playing here. The course is nicely set up and is always a fun experience. Staff is friendly and you are allowed to golf without people breathing down your back. Great price for golf. They even have a practice facility accross the road that is inviting for all levels. The only complaint is the condition of their greens, which I'll say has improved recently this month. Highly recommend

Clean facilities, but overpriced at 45 per player when the fairways and tee boxes seem to be hard as marble. Great scenery except for the dump on the back 9.

Price was not honored through golf now. When we called in to ensure carts were available we were told to pay regular price, not cool. Then on the course the greens were the worse ever. It felt like we were playing in bunkers while putting!!!!! Never again!!!!

This golf course is really expensive for the sub par greens. I noticed there was a hot deal on Golf now for 35 per person. I call to confirm they are open and have carts and I speak to Travis. He confirms the tee time but says if I book with him it will be 49/per. I attempt to book on golf now and it won't process my payment. Somehow the rate increases after I called. No biggie if it's a decent course. We come to play and are met with numerous greens that look like this. For that price you would think that you could reasonably putt... Two stars given as the fairways seemed well taken care of and no blatant issue with customer service. But for 100+ dollars for 18 you hope to have better than this.

5 stars to the staff for their professionalism. 3 stars to the course being in shape, 5 stars to the rate and 1 star to course design. Fortunately I was with some great people but as for the golf experience, it was whatever.

I played Battleground today. I can truly say it was in the worst shape of any golf course I have ever played. I can't believe they can charge what they do. Will never play there again.

Played on Saturday. Was a very nice day. I was alone my friends stoped out. Came back on Sunday and it was just as nice. Good greens and course was dry. Some wee places but not on the greens.

Played here for the first time. Staff wasn’t unfriendly, but they weren’t friendly either. I mentioned it was my first time and got no response or welcome or anything. Not a huge deal, but like I said, not friendly. Starter was watching videos on his phone at the 1st tee, gave little to no advice when I asked him about the layout. The course was nice, good condition, but the players out this day had zero sense of pace of play or etiquette. I’ll try it out again in the future, but left today pretty disappointed.

I played this course on Saturday, June 8, 2019. All 18 greens were horrible. The sad part is when we checked in at Pro Shop the guy didn’t inform our party about the greens condition. I will never play this course again. What a waste of time and money.

What a waste of time and money. The greens are beyond repair. They consist of tiny patches of actual grass, a lot of packed sand and in some cases a few puddles. This place should close down until they get their greens presentable. There is no way you can play an enjoyable 18-holes in its current condition. I sent an email to their GM, Rich Earlywine and received no response whatsoever.

Unfortunately, the front 9 greens are dead, unplayable. Back 9 are close to completely dead as well. Fairways are reasonable, tboxes are reasonable. Skip this course until greens grow back

Went here to play a round of golf with some buddies on May 13th, 2019. When checking in we were told the greens were not in the best of shape. What we found was so much worse than "not in the best shape", The greens were nonexistent. They had absolutely zero grass on them and were nothing but packed sand. Do not waste your time or your money ($35) to play this course unless you check the greens out first. Total rip off right now.

Went to a wedding reception over the weekend. The food was really good and they let us bring our own keg for the bar. The seatimg was spacious and the venue meet all wedding reception needs. Will use this venue and catering for future events.

The layout of the course is nice. Some of the tee boxes are so hard that I used the back of my driver to get the tee in. The same can be said for the greens, there is no possible way to spin the ball and make it stop as they are hard. The only way to play approaches is to use the yardage to the front of the green and let it roll out. That's just my 2 cents after having played 10+ rounds at this course.
