We joined this gym with high hopes. The coach initially seemed knowledgeable and painted a picture-perfect vision for our kids’ future in boxing. The gym felt like a family, and our kids were happy, learning, and making new friends. That sense of community made us overlook early red flags, like the coach’s negative attitude and tendency to talk down to certain kids.
As our children progressed, we invested more—personal training, out-of-town competitions, and more time at the gym. But we started noticing disturbing patterns. The coach appeared more interested in media coverage than actual coaching. After team losses, he’d grow cold and dismissive—not just to the kids, but to parents too.
We paid for personal training sessions (promised at $250 for a set number), but those sessions were often cut short, shared with other kids, or skipped with excuses. Worst of all, we overheard him speaking badly about the very kids he was supposed to inspire—including cruel comments about children with disabilities, despite him acting like a saint when those same kids were present.
When we tried to address our concerns, we were met with arrogance and deflection: “I was a pro boxer. I know what I’m doing.” — as if that excused everything.
For a long time, we stayed because our kids loved their friends and didn’t want to leave. But everything changed when they heard for themselves the coach’s harsh, degrading comments—aimed at them. Their disappointment was heartbreaking.
We finally left. And since then, our kids have been thriving in a much healthier environment. After leaving, we also learned we were not alone—others have similar or even worse stories.
So please—be careful. This gym is not what it seems. Do your research. Talk to other parents. Trust your gut.

Been a great experience that my son has had at this awesome gym. The journey started 7 months ago not knowing how to jump rope and not even knowing how to throw a good punch. To having two amateur fights under his belt and very disciplined not only in the gym but in school and at home. Boxing with coach Marc Torres has been one of the greatest experiences my family and I have had. I would recommend anybody from friends to family to go and check it out for themselves. Don't take my word for it try it out I guarantee you that you won't just learn about boxing but how to apply the hard work in the gym towards your life as well. He doesn't work only with certain kids he works them as a team, because that is what we are.

This is a long review. So bare with me.
I am giving this Torres fight academy a 1 star rating for these reasons. Some professional and some personal.
Torres fight academy is a average gym if you want extremely basic boxing instruction.
There is little to no guidance when it comes to beginners with zero skill, technique, or knowledge.
I have given my son more technical teaching than the pro fighter "coach" has.
The only professional fighter at the "academy" is the "coach" and he is egotistical, has a mediocre record and its nothing amazing. The "coach" is unprofessional and two faced. Can't even corner his own fighters due to lacking proper licensing and has been dropped by sponsors and promoters. Preaches things that sound good, but only when the parents are listening. Keeps the parents paying the memberships I guess.
The coach pays little attention to those who aren't fighting under him. Even those fighting under him get little correction or technique taught to them. There is little to no instruction given when it comes to correcting techniques or showing proper form for beginners, or anyone really. If you ask a question about technique or form, it's taken negatively, as if it's a challenge to him or as if he is not teaching correctly or someone lesser is correcting him. I mean after all, a 7 and 2 pro record is only so so. Humility is a thing everyone should have.
If you are looking for a serious gym or a professional coach that will guide you and perfect your form or techniques, I suggest finding another place.
This "coach" actually kicked my son out of the gym because he couldn't act like an adult and sit with me and talk a misunderstanding through like he should have. Instead he let his ego control him because he wasn't smart enough to understand comments I made or questions I was asking. I was getting tired of paying for zero knowledge or actual coaching. But hey, I could afford it and it looks like the academy needed the help with membership.
My son is 9 and was really enjoying the gym and making new friends and gaining confidence, even though I was teaching him more technique than the coach was, my son was really breaking out of his shell and learning to box He would break out in a big smile when the other kids show up to sparring sessions and stuff. He was really feeling like he was part of a team. But this "coach's" ego and temper and inability to comprehend has left my son, who's 9, upset and now he is not even sure he wants to continue with the sport. That a whole new level of unprofessionalism. To make a child suffer because you have an issue with a parent who is helping you and paying you to do it, while showing zero interest in actually teaching techniques or form to those paying you,is beyond just being unprofessional.
If I was looking for a place for my kids to learn how to box, I wouldn't take my kid to that academy. I wouldn't recommend anyone take their kids. I would rather take my kid to a rough, straight forward gym and learn proper technique instead of having an egotistical mediocre "pro" teach my kid incorrectly.

Our 7 year old son loves his “Bully Proof” class. He looks forward to going to boxing class after school. He learning so much, so quick and has made new friends. It’s a great atmosphere. He is learning how to defense himself shall the need arise and he gets the workout in. Coach Torres and Mrs. Torres have so much patience with the kids. He does one to one. They go above and beyond. Definitely recommend it to any one- kid or adult! If you looking for a place to get the workout in— this is THE PLACE! 👍🏻
