I’ve been a member here for almost two years, and I still think about how much Total Body Training has taught me. The atmosphere is always positive and motivating, and everyone — from the trainers to the members— truly cares about your progress. You can tell it’s locally owned because there’s such a strong sense of community and personal connection.
The facility is spotless, the equipment is always in great shape, and there’s something here for every fitness level. The absence of mirrors and the perfect soft lighting lets me focus on ME. The trainers are knowledgeable, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping you reach your goals. The progress that I have seen not only physically but, most importantly, mentally have been nothing short of life changing
After two years, I still look forward to every workout. It’s more than just a gym — it’s a community that pushes you to be your best! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a clean, welcoming, and supportive place to train. 💪

If you want a private, upscale gym experience without the crazy price tag, total body training is the spot. It has a really clean, high-end vibe — like Equinox but way more affordable. No phones are allowed, which keeps you focused, and the small group classes feel like personal training. You follow a 6-week strength program on a tablet, and it really builds you up week by week.
I’ve been here for 6 months and seen huge improvements in my strength and physique. As a woman, I’ve always found commercial gyms uncomfortable, but here it feels private, safe, and exclusive — the doors even lock once class starts, which I love. Everyone trains hard without distractions, and the set class times keep it organized.
Pricing is fair for what you get. No locker rooms yet but honestly, the quality of the training and the environment more than makes up for it.

I feel so lucky to have an amazing fitness studio like Total Body Training in San Antonio! First of all, I've gotten faster results at this gym than I've ever gotten before because of the unique training program, and I also feel more comfortable here than I have at other gyms b/c of the really welcoming and warm environment.
The program is great b/c even though it's a group class, each person is working at their own pace. At the beginning of each class, you pick up a tablet that has an app on it that you log into and it walks you through that day's workout. The coach is also there and they're too checking on everyone, correcting form, answering questions, motivating you, etc. Depending on your fitness level or certain areas you want to focus on, this is all customized to meet you where you're at. The workouts are on 6-week cycles so at the beginning you start with lighter weights and less sets to get comfortable with the exercises, then you build up to heavier weights and more sets over 5 weeks, then your last week is a recovery week where weights/sets decrease again. I love how this cycle makes it feel like you're always learning and growing without getting bored. Definitely a total body workout! And it never feels like any pressure to perform which is refreshing at a gym.
The gym environment itself is amazing. The owner, Jean Carlos, has done a recent remodel and the look and feel of the place is totally unique. The lighting is soft with patio string lights (so much better than fluorescent!), there's cool industrial art on the walls mixed with a relaxed nature vibe too, and even though it feels chill, the music is loud, which is great! Overall, the aesthetic really makes it feel like a special place and you know that the owner cares a lot about creating the best experience he can for his clients.
One thing to know is that this gym's focus is on strength training. There's no cardio, HIITs, or bootcamp type of stuff. I really appreciate not having to do burpees or feeling like I'm going to pass out like I did at other small group classes. If you want to firm up, learn proper technique, get some high quality fitness training while being supported by attentive, thoughtful, authentic coaches, this is definitely a place you should check out. You can take one class for free and there's no hard sell. That's what I did after scoping the gym out on Instagram for a few months until I finally called. Such a great decision! You won't regret it.

After going to Total Body Training for just shy of 2 years, I can say that this was one of the best workout experiences I have had.
The real draw of the place is the owner/coach, Jean. Even though he is the only employee (at least when I was there), he is incredibly on top of things. He gets to know every single one of his students from goals, to favorite/least favorite exercise, to hobbies. His presence is what kept me, and many other people, coming back regularly every week.
All the other people attending are incredibly nice and respectful. From regulars to people just starting out, everyone is friendly and focused on self-improvement. The vibe of everyone really helps keep you motivated during a tough workout, while not being overly positive.
The facility itself is immaculately kept and consistently gets new machines to add to the workout regiment. Everyone makes sure to clean up after themselves, equipment is well organized, and cleaning supplies are regularly stocked.
Overall I have 0 complaints about Total Body Training. While it is definitely more expensive than some big chain gyms, you can see through the incredible coaching and constant improvements that it is 100% worth every penny. I can't recommend this place enough for anyone who is looking to get more serious about weight lifting.

I am extremely happy that I signed up, I feel like I have a personal trainer because the instructor is very hands on, and the small group sessions are extra motivating. I recommend this class for everyone from the beginner to the expert fitness advocate. Each person is designed a personalized training program and it’s monitored and adjusted to continually improve your tone and total body strength.

Edit: After working out at TBT for almost a year and a half, I can honestly say that it is an amazing gym. The only reason that I am not still working out there is because I moved. Jean Carlos has set up a wonderful gym that he is always improving. The environment is wonderful. If you want to go and just put your head down, do your workout and leave, you can. If you want to talk, team up for exercises, challenge one another, you can. It really is what you make it. Everyone is wonderful and it is a very inclusive group of different body types and fitness levels. I really recommend going to check out TBT if you are looking for a new place to work out.

Total Body Training is an incredible facility. They have everything one would need to become a stronger you. The place is perfectly lite no super bright sterile lights. The lights are the most perfect ambient brightness. Jean Carlos is the trainer and owner of Total Body Training and has perfected his gym. Jean Carlos himself is absolutely amazing. He is not a drill sergeant, he’s more realistic and understanding. If you have a previous injury from before working out Jean Carlos adapts his exercises to you specifically. Weekly workouts change to make sure your body doesn’t hit a plateau where you have no improvements. Jean Carlos is personable meets you at your level. If there is an exercise that you’re unable to do he doesn’t judge or criticize you for being weak. Jean Carlos is the perfect trainer for the person who has been training for years or the newbie who has never worked out. Jean Carlos explains the exercises and shows you what muscles it is targeting. Due to Jean Carlos’ versatility he and his gym are the perfect suit for all. I highly recommend checking out Total Body Training for an all around best atmosphere and phenomenal trainer.

Soon, as I request the class a gentleman name Jean Carlos texted me to discuss the classes. I was very impressed at that moment. We talked about me and what I needed for me. This is a super clean studio with great ambiance. Jean Carlo is a very good trainer, and he makes sure that you are doing your routine correctly without injuring yourself. If you really want a good workout without suffering all the time, then you should join this studio. 45 minutes went super fast and still you will feel like you accomplished a lot.

The space space is unlike any other. It’s very chill with its lighting and the music is amazing which is a huge plus haha. From the moment I walked in I fell in love. The trainer there took time to actually explain everything to me step by step and frequently checked in on me to ask how I was feeling with the exercises. I was seeking a smaller, more personable strength training experience after dealing with the “commercial” Golds Fit for years. I found Total Body Training (TBT) online with stellar reviews. I signed up for a session with owner/trainer Jean Carlos. He got back with me the very next day, asked me some questions to learn about what I was looking for, etc. He explained how the program and functional strength training works using weights only. Even though there are a handful of people present, each person has their training session personalized for them. It’s a group setting but like having a personal trainer there at every session! Everyone has their own weekly workout tailored for just them. No HIIT workouts that are hard on your joints, no large groups, no commercialization. Just weights. Jean Carlos truly cares about each and every person in his program and develops a program just for you. The membership $ is very reasonable and more importantly, he ensures that you get the right program for you, your fitness level, any modifications needed if any. I’m approaching 1 month with him and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. Jean Carlos is good people and I highly recommend his program at TBT.

Today was my first day in at Total Body Training. Jean was amazing in the consultation. It was great to talk to someone who talked to you as an individual and gave you customized solutions for your goals. I dropped into JC's class because I used to frequent his gym when I lived in San Antonio. I came back for a business trip and I definitely wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed the class because it was challenging and I felt great once we were finished. It was a mixture of strength training and ab work. I learned a lot of different movements and exercises. JC has really helped me reach my fitness goals in a short period of time, and I am much more confident about my fitness abilities now. He also helped customize a work out plan that I can take with me.
The gym is very spacious and clean. He ensures that there is cleaning throughout the training sessions, which I really appreciated.
He has a fitness channel that I follow on YouTube so I can keep up with his training program and maintain my current fitness level.

I've been coming to this gym for the last couple of years. I like the group sessions and amount of people in the classes. Jean teaches you the correct form. I also like how you come here and feel comfortable working out.

Jean is a great trainer! The group size on average is about 5-8 to people, so you really get that 1 on 1 training. I’ve tried many gyms and this is the one!!

John is great! For a total beginner like me, he's very patient and encouraging. After going only once every once in a while, i feel more confident in doing exercises. The environment is great too, its a very different approach to the classic hospital lighted gym. The advantage to that is that i dont really feel like the spotlight is on me and everyone is watching my every mistake. By having dark tiles and low lit room allows me too focus on myself and the workout. Idk if he planned it that way but thats next level imo.

Ok so it’s been forever since I did the whole gym thing, I usually workout at home. But let me tell you from the moment I walked into TBT I felt a sense of relief and motivation like, “Girl you got this!” The trainer Jean Carlos is absolutely amazing! Be made me feel comfortable and made me push myself in a god way. Definitely would recommend!

Awesome all around! I’ve been working out for years!!! I actually get paid to work out (Uncle Sam) but the forms Jean Carlos had me preform will get me where I want to be fast. Bye bye knee pain because I now know how to correctly perform squats. I’m going to be in the mirror checking my backside all the time after a few more classes. Thank you Jean Carlos for taking the time and effort to train me. I’m looking forward to the next class.

So because of Covid and life I gained 25 lbs and have not had the motivation to hit the gym or do any workouts. But since I'm in San Antonio for work for a month I decided to join my friend at Total Body Fitness. I thought it was just going to be another HIIT workout and I was just going to hate life BUT boy I was wrong! The one on one attention even though it's a group setting was AMAZING! Having someone taylor your workout to your abilities instead of cookie cutter for everyone was definitely a new experience for me. Jean Carlos was attentive and informative and hands on. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will definitely be returning for the rest of the time I'm in San Antonio. Thank you Jean Carlos!

I’m on my 5th group session with Jean Carlos at Total Body Training and I’m loving it so far!
The group sessions are great and still feel personalized. The build up between workouts has been at a great pace with what we’re learning.
I started as a total beginner with no workout experience and I’m actually using what I’m learning in the sessions and working out at home now. This class is great for beginners because Jean Carlos teaches you the right form so you’re working out correctly and feeling and seeing results. Love it so far!

The classes are effective and run smoothly & the instructor Jean Carlos is very in tune with what you need and very informative. I had a great time at total body training! I enjoyed the unique workouts fitted to my goal. The small classrooms are a plus because you get the one on one training you need to really help build up to your goals. Jean Carlos is friendly, professional and honest. This program focuses on the individual’s needs in a group setting. His style is positive reinforcement and growth. I’m looking to tone up. Total Body Training is the best gym I’ve been too. Jean is a wonderful trainer who has helped me meet my body goals. I love the gym atmosphere. The group classes makes me want to work harder. I like that our workout plan changes every 5 weeks so I get to learn new workouts and techniques. Jean makes working out fun by having themes such as 90s hip hop, rnb, reggae and etc. I recommend him to everybody in the San Antonio area.

At total body training, Jean gives you very detailed workout plans and direct attention during your workouts. He’s helped me a lot with my form and has increased my confidence in the gym. This is a very beginner friendly class and good for advanced individuals as well. He has all the equipment you need for your workout goals. Do it!
