I have been coming here for about 10 months. It has been delightful. Starting in the old gym, suffered through barely discernible AC and questionable lighting during a hot Houston summer.

What a difference a new location makes! Lights, AC, gorgeous bathrooms. Room a plenty to do your exercise regimen.

My personal coach, Stephanie, is awesome. She is friendly, encouraging, and know just when to tweek what you're doing to keep it challenging. Try her out.

Kidd and Katelyn, the owners, are the best. All during construction, kept us informed of progress. Both of these folks truly care about their business, but more importantly the community of people who frequent this place. There's always some team challenge, walk, run to engage in.

An added bonus, two adorable doggos who sometimes come along with a tennis ball that always needs a toss.

I’ve been coming here since 2019, and this is by far the best gym I’ve been to across multiple cities. The attention to detail with the coaches is unmatched. I’ve struggled with old injuries and they taught me to move in a safer way that uses better body mechanics. Vegvisir is also a great place to make new friends if you’re new to Houston.

Walked away from my first class at Vegvisir highly impressed. When I signed up for a drop in Kidd called me immediately to walk me through their process, and to learn more about my goals.
When I arrived for class, the gym was spotless, and everyone was very welcoming. Sean coached the class and did a great job connecting with all of the athletes while keeping the class organized and on time. He went over scaling and modification options for the more challenging movements.

I was nervous to try weightlifting for the first time but this gym is a great place to learn! The coaches and community are so supportive and friendly and they really focus on doing moves properly, safely, and at whatever scale makes the most sense for you. They're also super accommodating to injuries — I have been healing from a bad knee injury for the past six months and the coaches helped me modify the workouts so I could still participate and strengthen my knee at the same time. Absolutely the best gym experience I've ever had. I've been a member for two years and will continue for as long as I live close enough to do so!

I started at Vegvisir as a drop-in but became a full-fledged member within a week! Having tried numerous CrossFit gyms over the years, each with its own vibe, programming, and coaching methods, Vegvisir stands out by filling the gaps left by others and significantly enhancing my training experience.

What distinguishes Vegvisir is its dedicated coaching approach. The monthly InBody scans keep me accountable, and the owners and coaches are always accessible via text or email, showing genuine commitment to my fitness journey. The gym provides a wide range of class times, open gym hours every day, and weekend access. They also make a point to stay open even after major weather events—Vegvisir doesn’t make excuses. Plus, I’ve benefited from personal training sessions for Dubs and Muscle-ups, where the coaches focus exclusively on you without combining clients.

Vegvisir also hosts in-house competitions, like the Ghoulish Gauntlet, where members can compete in teams. Additionally, they participate in the CrossFit Open, both in internal and national competitions.

Highly recommend for anyone just beginning CrossFit or those mose seasoned athletes!

Let me start by saying I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a fitness girlie. When I joined Vegvisir almost two years ago (at the encouragement of a friend who already went there), I had no idea what to expect. What I found was an incredibly friendly environment and coaches that were more than happy to meet me where I was in terms of my fitness ability and goals. As a newbie to exercise, I was really grateful to discover that one of the main priorities at Vegvisir is to make sure you are doing any/all of the exercises correctly and with good form so as to keep you and your body safe and healthy. Also, on a community level, I’m pretty sure Vegvisir is the first place in my adult life that I have genuinely not felt embarrassed by coming last or by being the “worst” at something. So, if you’re totally new to the whole fitness scene like I was, don’t be scared off by the intense sounding “CrossFit” that comes after “Vegvisir” in the name. No offense to other CrossFit places but, I think Vegvisir is really the way to do it.

This is a very special place - I was a member for almost a year and have (sadly) moved, and in trying to find a new gym I’m reflecting on what made Vegvisir so amazing - they do a great job of taking you from knowing nothing to being safe and comfortable with the movements with lots of scaling and progression options. This place has become my second family. Kidd and Katelyn are so wonderful. They do a no-sweat intro so you get time to learn the basics before you go into a class and have to “figure it out”. There is builds that have equipment to workout and then there is Vegvisir. Anytime I would show up to workout at Vegvisir it felt like family. Perfect place for anyone to start and everyone to stay!! The coaches are amazing and the gym is so well run. I feel like they are really invested in my health.
I was very active in CrossFit a few years back, getting back into it I wanted to be careful not to hurt myself. It was important for me to be in a place that prioritized my safety as well.

As a complete beginner to CrossFit, I was so nervous to walk in and start this journey. Vegvisir couldn't have made it easier or more fun to get started and jump in. The coaches are all absolutely amazing and continuously help me along the way. (their patience really knows no bounds!)The onboarding personal training sessions at the beginning help immensely to learn the movements and ease into the group classes. I was completely terrified of group classes before starting here, but all the athletes at the gym are super supportive and awesome people. The gym is clean and the equipment is in great shape, which makes it really easy to prioritize gym time even when I'm busy. Over the years, I have been a member of four CrossFit gyms around the Houston area: Vegvisir is my favorite! There is so much that makes it such a special place. Here are some of the reasons I feel so great about going there for my morning workouts: This is a place where diversity is welcome and, yet, it feels like I'm part of a big family. There is a genuine care about individual's progress, as much effort is put supporting you in your journey. At first you have an interview with one of the trainers and measurements are done in order to have a baseline. From time-to-time, updating visits provides a good picture of how you are advancing with tips on how to make it better. Your workouts are registered in their system and you can see the results on the app. There are different workout benchmarks and levels that you may chose to set as goals. So, losing/gaining a certain amount fat/muscle may not be the only point of focus. In fact, I'm more in tune with achieving new skills or having fun accomplishing different abilities. On the first few months, I received weekly personal texts to make sure that my needs were met and that I was feeling well. Kidd (owner and coach) sends ongoing emails explaining major workouts, including how they are helpful and how to achieve them. All with a very cheerful tone. In addition, the facility is clean and it even has restrooms with shower, which is not common in CrossFit locations. I also like that they have several session options in their schedule, so it can fit most people's schedule. They also offer a couple of different memberships, depending how often you would like to exercise. There is plenty of free parking spots in spite of how close it is to downtown. In summary, being able to keep up with a healthier lifestyle can be challenging, and working out is a big part of it. Thus, I'm thankful that Vegvisir facilitates this journey of mine.

Vegvisir CrossFit is an awesome gym with great coaches! I’ve been coming here for about six months and couldn’t ask for a more supportive place to work on my fitness goals. At Vegvisir, the on-ramp program starts with FOUR one on one sessions so you’re truly comfortable with movements and the style of CrossFit workouts. (I’ve been to a few gyms where you get one 45 min foundation class, then you’re thrown to the wolves.)
This is a CrossFit gym where programming is taken seriously and the coaches communicate frequently with all athletes about what’s going on and why—weekly WOD preview emails, helpful tips to approach each workout, and there’s even a podcast! Whether you are new to CrossFit or a seasoned fitness warrior, this gym will push you, hold you accountable, and cheer you on each time you show up. I’m super grateful that I found them and I would encourage anyone who is looking for fitness, nutrition help, community, or all of the above to give Vegvisir a try—you’ll be so happy you did!

At the time of writing this review, this will be my third week training at the gym. In that short time I have seen my strength and conditioning improve noticeably. It's great supplemental enhancement to my Jiu Jitsu training. Kidd and his team of coaches are awesome professionals dedicated to helping you achieve your goals, properly and safely refine your technique, and get you in great shape. The culture here is one of team positivity, safely performing at the level you are comfortable with, and working together to achieve higher levels of fitness. I started with the "on ramp" one-on-one personal training which has been great to ease into and properly learn the more complex exercises like Olympic-style lifts. I highly recommend if you are interested in getting into Crossfit training!

Long review so TL:DR version: If you are looking for a healthy, encouraging, safe, fun environment to get back on track or continue your fitness journey, this is the place for you.

I stepped into Vegvisir Crossfit almost 2 months ago after doing extensive research about personal training in Houston. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a chronic illness that affects all body systems and makes me prone to injuries/dislocations. I totally fell off the fitness wagon and had been watching myself get more and more unhealthy to the point that I wondered if it was too late or if I would be able to get back to a healthy spot, my pain was through the roof and I was feeling so discouraged. I went to gyms and met people who all seemed great, but as someone who looks totally healthy from the outside, none seemed to grasp my needs and my fear of injury coming into a gym environment.

When I first looked into Vegvisir I sent the owner a long email about my condition, current status, and worries. At this stage a lot of other gyms did one of two things, tell me it was too much of a liability, or just disregard my medical/surgical history. Kidd did neither. He stressed to me that Vegvisir would be a safe place, that he would listen, adapt, and partner with me, that their goal was lifelong fitness and functionality. He also asked questions to clarify things that he had learned in doing more research, which absolutely blew me away.

My first month was 3x/week personal training and it was worth every single penny. Kidd gave me attainable but challenging goals, and offered encouragement along the way. I left each session totally exhausted, but in the best way, and I never left with new pains. He watched each new movement closely, and was able adjust when something didn't feel quite right and was sometimes able to adjust my movements before I even noticed that they were compensatory and not safe for my body/joints. EDS also comes with chronic fatigue, and the coaches are able to adjust for that. They know when I am not walking in at 100% and adjust the workouts as needed, but never shaming or pushing too far.

I am now transitioning into part class and part PT which was something I was very nervous about but has so far gone so smoothly. I have worked with a couple other coaches and they all reflect the type of environment the owner has laid out for me and everyone that walks through those doors. I never feel shamed or embarrassed for scaling down weights or movements to meet where I am right now, in fact its quite the opposite. The classes are full of diverse people and levels of workout. I see beginners and very experienced athletes working out side by side, its a really cool community to witness.

After less than 2 months I have already felt a HUGE difference in my pain and energy levels, and my overall joint health. While I thought I would use personal training as a way of breaking the cycle I was in and getting back to a healthy spot then going back to my regular routines, my plan has totally changed and I can't wait to continue membership at Vegvisir.

Absolutely amazing community. I was brand new to CrossFit and a little apprehensive to start because I had very little experience with weight lifting. They have a personal training onboarding program to help with learning the basics that was very useful. After that, all of the daily classes have coaches that are very attentive and work with you to continually improve your form and any personal goals you might have. This gym is so well run it feels like having a personal trainer that also organizes game nights and occasionally cooks you tacos.

I'd like to give a big shoutout to this Gym and all of its trainers. I've been training with Kidd the owner for the past four months and it has changed my life tremendously. I do two private sessions per week (my preference) and 1-2 group classes.

When I started this journey with Kidd I wasn't sure that this type of workout would be something I could adhere to. It looked quite scary and quite frankly my last experiences in crossfit gyms led me to believe that CrossFit would never be something that I could love as much as I do now. I've just turned 40, have never viewed myself as athletic and skinny fat is probably the best way to describe my body type upon joining. Being tall and lean has always been a crutch and just because you're skinny, doesn't mean that you're healthy.

I view the type of workout provided here as functional training. You can call it Crossfit but that puts it into a box that is intimidating to the normal bloke like me. I have not once felt thrown into an exercise that I wasn't comfortable performing or asked to do something that we haven't gone over previously. Kidd thoughtfully prepares my PT sessions in order to work me into the new movements. One thing has led to the next with each exercise and at this point I feel confident, athletic and free.

If you are looking for a gym and looking for somewhere to be that you fit in, it's this gym right here. No gym mirror selfies or testosterone infused gym rats to make you feel uncomfortable. It's full of gym nerds of all ages, size, gender and color who love working out and love to encourage each other with a healthy competitive attitude. The clientele are lovely and diverse in all the best ways.

I hope this helps anyone who might be nervous about getting into shape and finding a place where you fit in. It's easy to find your place here. Go for it.

My spouse and I have been going to Vegvisir for a bit over a year, mostly for personal training (which is fantastic), but also for CrossFit classes. The community of people in the gym is consistently positive and encouraging, I felt welcomed from our first week and every day since then.

Some things we like about the gym:
We were able to modify my cardio and weight lifting regimen throughout my pregnancy, even adjusting things day by day as my comfort with certain movements changed. Coming back after pregnancy, I feel secure in knowing that I will be challenged but also safe.

The space in the gym is very open and I don’t worry about finding room to workout.

The CrossFit class sign up is online and easy to set up.

We just love all of the coaches. They are wonderful people in general, but also very good at training all types of athletes.

Social get togethers every month or so have been great, but we never felt overly obligated to go if we were busy.

The personal training is very tailored to my goals. I even had a plan that my coach Kidd made for training for the Houston marathon last year.

I am an Ironman triathlete but never been a gym type guy. It is true, as silly as that sounds I just never really felt comfortable in a gym lifting weights. Sure I have had personal trainers before but I never felt confident working out with them or being in a gym setting. It just always felt like a competition within itself and that was just something I did not want to be a part of.

Then shortly after a really bad illness that left me hospitalized, I began my journey back to my love of endurance sports. It started off as just a jog but soon I was back to running several times a weeks. As an older runner I knew that I needed to do some cross training but just was not finding the right fitness for me online.

As I ran I would routinely run by this gym, and one day decided to stop in. I do not know what I expected but what I received was a very warm welcome from many soft voices. It was unlike any gym I had ever been in before. Not only did the trainers and coaches give me a nice warm welcome but also the other gym members.

Again it just had a different feel than any gym I had been in before.

Then one day after several months I had my first real, I had made it, moment. After some gentle and warm encouragement one of the trainers convinced me that I could do a "real box jump". He could clearly see my hesitation but gave me the confidence that I needed to take a chance. So with a bit of courage I jumped on the box with both feet landing. I just stood there in awe and amazement and yelled "First Box Jump". The whole gym quit what they where doing and gave me a round of applause.

It was in that moment that everything just felt right.

I am a firm believer that we are all on different fitness journey. I am a firm believer that fitness is a competition with yourself and not others. I can honestly tell you that this gym is helping me with mine. Not just with my personal cross training but their soft and gentle voices as well.

So if you are looking for a place to train and looking for more than just a gym. If you have perhaps not found the right gym home so to speak for whatever reason. I sincerely encourage you to stop by.

From joining this gym on day 1 after meeting Kidd (3 years ago), I knew that Vegvisir Crossfit is going to be my fitness home! It quickly became my second home because of how wonderful the community is. Its proximity to the medical center, cleanliness of the equipment, and the attention of the coaches to movement techniques is on point! On top of all of that, it is air conditioned.

Their programming (focused cycles, followed by testing week) is second to none simply because it takes into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of ALL members at the gym. I’ve never been an active person before I joined this gym. The coaches have a unique way of encouraging you and pushing you to be your best in a way that doesn’t include shaming or reproach for a failed attempt at something hard. EVERYONE gets to feel strong here. They have great ways of helping you feel pride for what you accomplish, and have taught me to have grace with my shortcomings which has translated into my personal life. Each time I go, I learn a little more about how to address things in my life that are difficult, and I’m reminded that growth is never linear and that’s okay. I can say with 100% confidence that this is the best gym I have ever been too. I had never done CrossFit before and while researching local gyms I came across Vegvisir. I had been an avid gym goer prior to starting CrossFit but as many know CrossFit can be quite intimidating. I had my introduction to the gym with one of the owners, Kidd. He showed me the basics and got me prepared for my first class. Quickly that feeling of intimidation left and I became more excited with each class. Something you will find here that you won’t with any other gym is the camaraderie and friendliness shown to everyone. It’s not just a gym it’s a community. The owners Kidd and Katelyn treated me like a friend from day one. They got to know me and helped me explore all of my interests in the fitness world. All of the members help each other and push you to be better. I learned a lot from everyone and made incredible friends.

It’s not just your everyday CrossFit class either. These workouts are carefully made by the coaches so that you are able to work on skills in a manner fit for you. I had broken my leg and still wanted to work out and they made sure they adapted my workouts so I could still safely participate with them. And during my recovery process they are the ones that helped me regain my strength. That’s something I will never forget.

There are a million more great things I could talk about, but to keep it from becoming a short novel, this place deserves all the hype. Please, if you’re thinking about joining CrossFit I urge you to try out this place. You won’t regret it!!

Moving has always been a tricky thing. It can be pretty tough to make new friends, meet new people, and find new places to belong. I can say without a doubt that Vegvisir is my favorite thing about moving to Houston. The owners/coaches genuinely just care deeply about everyone here, and it shows. Words cannot describe how much this second family means to me. Pros they allow dogs, they have so many class times available, kind people, helped me pass the bar, and for the first time EVER I do not have back pain working out. Kidd’s philosophy is do it correct instead of add more weights and risk getting injured.
