I really want to rate it higher but when something breaks here it takes months to get fixed. Update 12/19/24 Still takes a while to get things fixed. Literally nothing has changed. If you try and add your sister on a family membership when they live with you they balk at it yet they allow literally 1000s of people with zero membership access to their facilities at the expense of paying members. The only reason to go here is because nothing else is closer. Don't sign up here if you want transparency on terms and conditions.

Worst experience of any YMCA ever. Larissa rudely explained to me that I was righteously charged $115 for 4 days of use of my membership because I was a single day over the designated cancellation deadline. I did it on the 16th instead of the 15th so even though they stated to me verbally that they would cancel my membership and only charge me through the first, they went back on their word and charged my household an entire extra month. The reason we canceled was because this was the worst childcare facility we had ever seen. You literally have to walk through a hallway of kitchen appliances like a commercial refrigerator to get to the young child room where a snotty 14 yr old who clearly hates children is waiting to sign your kids in. Not safe at all. Don’t waste your money on these substandard people. 🙄

When my family arrived to San Angelo we didn’t know anyone, we became members at the YMCA to get our kids involved. In the few months we have been here my kids have taken swim lessons with Mr. Austin and spent some time in the e-sports room with Mr. Jeremy. Both have been so good with my children, they are so patient with them and have helped them learn so much. Neither of my kids had spent any amount of time in the water before we anrrived and now they can make it across the pool with relative ease. My fears with them in the water have subsided. I’m so grateful for the decision to come here and get involved the way that we have.

went here at 5-7 yrs old in early 2010s at the day camp thingy and fell on my face playing gym games. knocked most of my baby teeth loose early and was left bleeding for the rest of the day. NONE OF THE staff told my mom and she picked me up with blood stained on my face and all of my teeth knocked out of place. She went full karen. Also they left us on a turf in 100 degree weather with scorching hot fake grass, we couldn't even sit down w/o our towels. they wouldn't let me go inside for water even though I was dehydrated to the point where I felt like throwing up!!
Anyway I heard this place still sucks and it gave me immeasurable trauma so 2 stars :3

I have two complaints, which are the staff/place itself. The staff is overall lazy, especially when it comes to the rules of the weight room, I'm tired of always watching kids under the age of 13 go into the weight room hogging the equipment, being disrespectful with the gym equipment, and nothing is being done about it to prevent these problems, not to forget that these children could get seriously injured. Horrible/lazy staff. Now the establishment, it's always for some reason the sauna being out of order. How can the Y be open everyday even on weekends and still not be dealt with to fix it, but that's easy to answer. The staff itself especially the manager. The Y needs to get their priorities straight. Unbelievable.

I have had a family membership for many years at this ymca and have always liked going there but today my son , nephew and I were working out and we always through faint kicks at each other just playing around, a staff employee gave us a dirty look and told us to nock it off, I just shrugged and said ok because I am a business man and am use to dealing with attitudes but I would never treat one of my customers like that without good reasons , it’s not that he asked us to stop it’s the unprofessional stinking attitude he had, someone needs to address this issue because if it happens to us again we will just he’d on over to crunch. #mutual respect !

Probably the worst YMCA I have ever been to. I definitely wouldn’t qualify it as a “gym” or “health-center”, the facility is used more as a nursery and retirement home. The basketball courts, pool, and outdoor field are constantly reserved for children’s daycare activities and/or senior activities. The total available time of these amenities for other guests is likely 5 hours of the day 4of which are from 5 a.m.- 9 a.m. And in conclusion, if you are not a toddler or under the age of 70, I would recommend using Shannon Health Club, Crunch Fitness, or any other of the acceptable gyms and health-center’s in San Angelo, just refrain from this one, as it is by far the worst.

I had my sons first birthday here and I spent almost $200 for one hour in the pool and one hour in a room. They told me the party would be private and there were 5 groups of other people in the pool with us. When I spoke with Eric he told me no one said it would be a private party and I was lying and that there is always other people. Then one of the lifeguards was screaming at my 2 year old nephew and grabbing him because he was running around the pool (which I understand it’s a rule.. but he’s 2 you don’t need to put ur hands on anyones kid and he was barely running it was like a fast walk). Then proceeded to talk poorly about me and my family while we were drying off. Overall the worst establishment I’ve even been to. The staff is HORRIBLE. There was one nice blonde lady at the front but other than her no one had any respect or manners. We asked to speak to a manager and none of the kids running the YMCA knew who their manager was. Eric also gave us attitude when paying at the front because we simply asked to pay with 2 different cards. I would never recommended having a party or coming to this establishment at all. Wish I could give 0 stars.

Do not even deserve a star!!! I booked a party, and was told that they had a spot open for 2:30-4:30. After telling family and friends the party information, it turned out it was not an open spot and they called. Eric… the party coordinator was not apologetic nor concerned with the situation. He was rude and treated me like it was my fault. Horrible service on his part.

I have 2 complaints about this place/staff that makes me not want to recommend for a Birthday party...or have my own childs Birthday here...1st complaint is when ask if the kids could have 15 extra minutes it was a flat out no(no thought no negotiation) just no. I understand it's a 2 hr rental 1 hour pool and 1 hour in a another room for cake and presents(could of ate the time from the 2nd hour from here)... it's a handful of 10 yr olds wanting to swim with their family and friends and enjoy the experience. The 2nd complaint is when we got all the kids out of the pool and went to the "party" room we asked if the heat could be turn up...the young lady helping out said it takes 3 hours for it to warm up the room...and knowing that a party was being held for kids and plus the weather being cold outside you would think they would prepare a little more ahead of time for their paying customers. Felt rushed out when cleaning up our mess at the end as well.

we have the swimming class from 9:00am-9:30am and I take them to going there everyday.
Last Friday(12-07-2019) we got there at 9:05am but nobody was there , the teacher show up until 9:25am and practice my kids 15 minutes ,I didnt complain .
Today is Monday (15-07-2019) we got there 9:15am ,I understand we are only have 15 minutes left but I still hope my kids can practice everyday even in short time ,my kids patiently waiting for their turn to practice.when the girl to call my sons practice but the life guard stop her ( she did not teach anything yet ) and said the class was done and tell me to leave ( the girl life guard always give me dirty looks and she is so rude to us )
As a busy mom ,I try all my best to take my kids go to YMCA to learn swimming but all we got is discrimination, unfair and unprofessionalism. I feel terrible seeing my kid excited waiting in line to learn just to be turned down .
If they have 0 star I would like to give them 0 ,not even 1 star .

I had been going to the San Angelo YMCA for several days and I had forgotten to take my receipts. The receptionist ( name omitted for privacy) went through the entire database within the time period of my transactions and printed out all of my receipts and organized them. They were ready for me at the front desk upon my departure. This YMCA staff provides fantastic service and the facilities are diverse for the cross trainer.

Our family had been a member here for 4 years now, great place to come for a serious workout or just having fun in the pool..... the family membership makes it truly affordable to be healthy and fit. My children had learned to swim here, their pool is always clean and available (with an active and attentive lifeguards).
YMCA offer youth development, from after school programs, day camps, kids night out, etc. This summer they got summer camps ( tennis, basketball, football, volleyball, swimming, karate, etc). There are a few group fitness you can join in, like cycling, PiYo, P90X, Zumba and even Aqua Zumba.
I’ve taken a picture of their current summer pool schedule and membership fees ...check it out.
Their hours of operation: Monday to Thursday 5am to 9pm, Friday 5am to 8am, Saturday 8am to 5pm and Sunday 1pm to 5 pm

San Angelo YMCA is a great place to work out for persons of all levels of fitness. There is a workout for everyone. The weight room with weight machines and free weights. There is a mix of both casual lifters and serious lifters. There are two different types of bikes and of course treadmills in a separate workout room. There are aerobic and dance workout classes. Basketball and volleyball courts. With leagues in football, basketball, and volleyball for the kids and youth. The indoor swimming pool is great for all. There are usually two to three lanes dedicated for lap lanes. Also a good size hot tub to relax and help with aches and pains. The San Angelo YMCA is a great place for individuals or families. You will find the workout level you desire there.

Our rates increased $15 halfway through our one year membership and we couldn’t cancel. Now we have to go in person, fill out forms, and wait 30 days to cancel. Seriously?
BWhy pay so much to workout when the local gym is $15?
Now you can’t even have frosting on your cake if you have a birthday party there too! What a ripoff.
UPDATE:: it gets worse. They messed up and cancelled someone ELSES plan, and guess who still got charged? Yup. Buyer beware, cancelling is a nightmare.

Wow, amazing service here, folks! We stopped in for a workout and ended up having lunch! The kindly staff here fed us leftovers from a birthday party - hot dogs, cake and ice cream - and then made a few calls to see if they could find anyone to take us on a private horseback riding. The people here in Texas are gems! Thanks so much, San Angelo, Texas, YMCA! You ROCK!

One thing to be careful about, I paid in advance for swim lessons for my kid, but had to cancel a week or so before the class started. I paid cash, but they would only refund with a check, which took them a month to mail and only after several phone calls. They also took a $5 service charge for the refund, but didn't say anything to us about it. We noticed once we got the check. I called and they said it was in their written policy to charge $5 for all customer originated cancellations. Ok, written policy is fine, but good customer service would have at least told us that while we were standing at the counter asking about a refund. I guess we shouldn't expect much more from the teenagers working the desk, but the adults running the show should know better. Overall, the YMCA is ok and offers nice services, just be ready to lose $5 if your plans change.

As far as YMCAs go, this one is extremely run down, but the gym facilities are pretty decent by San Angelo standards. Zero early-morning classes, so for those of us who work, this is a complete letdown (and no spinning at ALL--whaaaattt????). I also had to try eight different stationary bikes before I could find one that didn't have a loose and rattling seat. Only one pool, so you're sharing with kids. They do have the standard family events, classes and sports, which is nice. Child watch hours and operating hours are more condensed than the Y I just came from, so not thrilled about that, either. Oh well, pretty slim pickens in this town, I guess you've got to take what you can get.
