The ONLY true Astanga Yoga studio in San Antonio!! This place has truly become another home. All of the instructors are vastly knowledgeable about their practices and know exactly what advice and adjustments to provide for you to perfect your own practice outside of the shala. I encourage you to take any, take ALL of the classes, regardless of what you choose you won’t leave disappointed :)

I was so appreciative of the way in which this shala held attentive, generous and loving space at a painful moment of grief for the ashtanga community. I will be sure to visit again when visiting from Austin. 🙏

Just moved from Honolulu, HI and tried this shala and the Ashtanga yoga. I liked it! I like the ambiance, the teacher (Christy), the studio, the half series Ashtanga class, the hands on modifications, and the special initial/first class pass. I plan to return to practice the primary series on a regular basis. I found my yoga place. Mahalo!

I'm so glad this was my choice for my first time back in a studio after so long. I've been in TX for almost 2 years and I've been out of the regular class practice since COVID, so this was refreshing and rejuvenating. I can't wait to go back, my instructor was great and I loved it 😊

Beautiful yogis & beautiful shala 🩷 Whether you want to deepen your Ashtanga practice or just try out yoga for the first time, you will be guided with compassion and knowledge. They also host other well-known teachers for weekend workshops, I joined for a weekend with Kino and will be back for David Swenson workshops. I wish the shala was closer to where I live ;) this place is a gem 💎

Shala means ‘house’ in Sanskrit, a place where Ashtanga is taught. For those who enjoy challenges and structure, Ashtanga fits perfectly. Yoga Shala is a serious, hands on practice with excellent instructors. Only been 18 months since my double hip replacements and I am fully mobile and happy. Best forms of physical therapy, exercise, in a peaceful quiet environment for true learning.

Yoga Shala and Slim Your Mind:
I was nervous as the holidays approached. Every nutrition plan that I have tried in the past has never been able to serve me well through the indulgent days of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations. However, as the last days of the season came to an end, I continued to feel in control and at peace with my body, and more importantly, my emotional wellbeing around food. Instead of feeling guilt and shame about eating delicious tamales, sweet potato casserole, dressing and multiple desserts (all my favorites), I allowed myself to consume decadent foods with my family in celebration of these important times together. What was different, was that I now had the tools and understanding of how these foods affect my body. I now understand how to enjoy food for the purpose of connection with family and friends; while also understanding how to use the food that is best for my body to feel truly healthy from my gut to my brain and all the emotions in between.
Like many, I have struggled with feeling comfortable in my body. My unhealthy misunderstanding of the connection between food and mood has plagued my life since I was a teenager. Janet and her Slim Your Mind program has lifted the fog for me and debunked all the many diets and nutritional plans that overwhelm our everyday culture. She explains in detail the chemistry of food and the physiology of how the food is used for fuel or stored in the body. Additionally, through methodical weekly lessons and easy food plans I was able to see clearly how my body best responds to different foods.
Janet is energetic, compassionate and encouraging as she assists you on your personal journey of food freedom. With patience and grace there is a steady transformation of the brain, and soon the body begins to reflect the lessons learned for a lifetime of optimal health.
There is no final destination. This is an ongoing process of maintaining balance of a healthy mind-body connection for the rest of my life. My consistent ashtanga yoga practice has definitely been a helpful partner through this program. In Kino MacGregor’s book, Act of Love she writes,
To make any lasting changes in our lives, the system update cannot be only in the level of conscious thought. We will have to learn how to live and be in the body in a radically new way. Without the disciplined methodology of some behavior change
anchored in the body, we will feel overwhelmed with old patterns of the past.
Yoga has become my “anchor” as I continue to work on changing old habits and subconscious thoughts that surround food.
I extend my most heart-felt gratitude to Janet personally and her incredible program. I cannot recommend her genuine, loving, wise expertise enough! I am also grateful to Yoga Shala of San Antonio and its dedicated teachers and practitioners that together create such a magical home for personal transformation and continual growth.

Best place to learn and develop your Ashtanga practice, online and in person. Ana is an authorized teacher from Sharat’s school (traditional Indian school) and she is constantly going back there to improve her teachings.

It's nearly a perfect experience, even for a first-time practitioner. I got a good first impression. Maybe a little lack of personal warmth for my taste. Maybe it's the type of yoga, not the shala itself, so weigh my comments with that in mind. I'm used to the community feel of Half Moon. As far as the yoga itself, it was a great experience with a competent instructor with a very attentive assistant to make sure I understood finer aspects of the asanas. I'd def go back.

It is a friendly place and currently provides the type of yoga I like, or planning to. I refer to Iyengar or Hatha yoga, anything that focus on body alignment and at the same time helps align the mind. The studio is far for me but that does not deter from my willingness to make the drive.

Yoga Shala is a wonderfully inviting and clean studio of friendly and knowledgeable teachers. There are many different levels of classes offered and fun workshops. The classes I attend are Ashtanga based Led classes and Mysore Independent practice. I enjoy the hands on adjustments and I always learn something new every time I go. I recommend this place of business to anyone interested in expanding their yoga practice.
