I only have gratitude for this school!!! My son has autism, and although it has taken some time, only they have had the patience and love to teach him what he knows, and now he can swim and has completely overcome his fear of water. It has been therapeutic for him. Each week has been so challenging, and only with their help have we been able to help my son achieve his goals. Thank you, Kristie!! She has been with us from day one until now and has always been wonderful!

We have enrolled in the new autism swimming lessons. The pool water is warm and the air is sauna-temperature and I can tell they work really hard to make the environment as welcoming as possible so that learning can actually happen. My child has level 3 autism, so, nonverbal. Normally it is almost impossible to get him to go into a new place. But he ran straight inside! In the introduction, the instructor was so patient walking with him around the pool til he was ready to to get into the water. In the first swimming lesson, my child was imitating the instructor's windmill arm movement, not perfectly, but all by himself, no hand-over-hand, and that is the FIRST time he has so obviously physically imitated someone! That is pre-language skill development! At the second lesson, he was imitating the teacher doing the grapevine-hand-movement to scoot across the pool edge (I'm sure that's the official term lol), not perfectly, but still, so significant to his development. Hopefully other families with a nonverbal autistic child can appreciate how huge that is. Aside from learning to swim, these lessons are working on the same neuro-pathway development as ABA therapy and occupational therapy. My child has only been in 2 lessons + the introduction, and we're already seeing huge strides, and I have a feeling he'll be swimming by himself in no time. It will be such a huge relief. I hear so many times that when an autistic nonverbal child has eloped and it ends in tragedy, it's always a body of water. Autistic kids are so attracted to water anyway (hence desperately signing up for the lessons), so I am wondering why this isn't already an official alternative to ABA therapy, that's essentially what it is! I am so glad I found this resource!

We’ve had such a great experience with Big Blue. The instructors are super patient and encouraging, which makes learning enjoyable for the kids. They really try the best to make kids comfortable! Our kids have gained a lot of confidence around water which was a key issue for us.
The facilities are always clean and well maintained, and everything feels very organized. My children look forward to every class, and it’s wonderful to see the progress they’re making while still having fun.
I would highly recommend this swim school to any parent looking for both quality instruction and a welcoming environment.

Our kids thoroughly enjoy swim lessons at Big Blue Swim School, and they absolutely love their teacher Astrid. She is always so nice to them and is exceptionally patient. She also is very attentative to detail when in comes to working with them on their swimming weaknesses. The rest of the staff here is very caring as well. If you want your kids to learn to swim and enjoy doing so, please don't take them anywhere else.

Started weekly swim lessons when our little was about 7 months old. Love that a parent is with these smallest ones in the pool. The Big Blue staff have been incredible, class sizes are small, the facilities are clean and the app is great for communicating, rescheduling lessons and seeing our child’s progress. We definitely recommend Big Blue in Orem.

We love Big Blue! Before they opened, we were looking into local swim schools for our toddlers, but none of them felt like the real deal. Once Big Blue opened, we tried the free trial, and both our kids and we as parents loved it! The structure, the kid-friendly environment, the tempered rooms, hair dryers, and all the thoughtful extra touches really stand out. It doesn’t matter if it’s winter or summer, their place always feels comfortable, and our kids look forward to their weekly class every single time!

We really like Big Blue. Instead of just a few weeks of swim instruction in the summer (that they forget after a few weeks) it’s nice to have a program once a week where they can review and build skills and actually learn how to swim! It’s also a good fit for families that want all the kids in around the same time. It was worth the higher cost in my opinion

I see another low review dealing with the same issue so be warned. Yes my son learned to swim, I liked the instructors and environment, however if you want to cancel you have to let them know 30 days prior or they will charge you and will not issue a refund. A little disappointed we had a good experience but they were so unwilling to work with me when I wanted to cancel and wouldn't refund my money.

Big Blue Swim School has been great overall. Occasionally though we get a teacher that seems more focused on the required checklist of swimming techniques, rather than help a child fine-tune the skills they most need to accomplish to advance.

My son has a hard time with new places and working with new people, especially now that he’s aged out of mommy and me classes so I was really nervous about swim lessons. Big Blue has been amazing with him. Everyone has made him feel so comfortable and he loves coming early to play on the mats and watch everyone. Astrid (his teacher) is incredible with him. She manages to get him to swim and is so encouraging without him even realizing he’s learning critical skills. Now he just wants to know when he can go play with Astrid again.

I enrrolled my daughter the first month, everything went well, then i went to register her for the next month, because no body came to ask me if we wanted to keep receiving classes or not. For the third month we decided to stop, to focus in her school and i found that they charged me the month without asking, no clue about the schedule or if i wanted, just they took the money amd remaind silent for 1 week. When i found it, they said oh, you had to let us know 30 days prior, said that i'm happy to hear you back... unprofessionals,

I'm always hesitant to leave bad reviews because I know it affects real people, but there are some things I wish we would have known before we went to Big Blue.
For our kids (8 and 6), it seemed more geared towards swim team skills, but we were looking for more basic water safety and survival skills. If you want your kids to learn specific strokes with exact precision, this is a great place for you. If you want your kid to learn how to survive if they fall in, doggy paddle, float, swim using their arms, I would recommend going somewhere else.
Our kids are pretty hydrophobic, so maybe it was just our kids. But we went for about six months, once a week, paid almost a thousand dollars in all, for barely marginal improvement. Every month or so an employee would come out and ask if we were satisfied or had any questions, and that they expected the kids to move up at some point because they were making progress somehow imperceptible to us, but they just stayed at the same level. Each week, they would swim back and forth across the pool with arms outstretched (so just using their legs to propel themselves) holding on to various floating devices for half an hour, and then we would go home. They never practiced floating on the front or back, swimming with their arms to propel themselves, doggy paddle, jumping in and climbing back out, or anything without flotation devices.
The pros:
It's always quite clean, and the water's a nice comfortable temperature, as well as the air in the room around the pool. There are plenty of well maintained dressing rooms, bags for taking your swimsuit home, hair dryers, showers by the pool, all very nice. They don't allow people to wear shoes on the pool deck, which I think probably keeps it nice, but it also seems to discourage parents from going into the deck some. Additionally, the online scheduling is really easy if you're going to miss a class or whatever.
The facility is great, employees seemed nice enough, but the curriculum was majorly lacking from what we were looking for.

EDIT 7/18/25:
I really loved Big Blue when we started almost a year ago, but I am disappointed that, once my child moved into Bold Blue from Bright Blue, the training focus changed to only working on being able to kick from one side of the pool to the other; any and all survival skills immediately stopped being taught, and he has not retained those skills on his own, despite my best efforts. Sure, he can “swim” across the length of the 3 ft deep lane while holding a little foam pool noodle out in front of him, but I still don’t feel confident that he wouldn’t drown if he happened to jump/fall into deep water. He doesn’t recall how to calmly get himself into a back float or pull himself out of the pool’s edge, because those skills aren’t practiced in his class anymore; they literally just kick back and forth, up and down the lane for the entire class. They will also have up to four kids in his class at once; not a whole lot of personal attention in a class that costs $31 for 30 minutes.
He has also been taught to lift his head and shoulders straight up out of the water to take breaths, so of course, when he tries to swim across without the pool noodle assisting him, his lower body drops down every time he takes a breath, because he doesn’t have the noodle to push against for leverage. They also haven’t even started teaching him how to do arm strokes so that he *can* swim across independently without holding onto the noodle. Then the instructors tell me he can’t move onto the next level until he can swim across without assistance and without his legs falling every time he takes a breath. You guys have literally trained his body to do that!
I try working on the survival skills with him when we go swimming together, but he stubbornly balks against having a “lesson” with mom at the public pool (and it’s not worth ruining our entire outing by forcing him to) when he just wants to splash around and have fun, which he can still only do in the shallow areas. I feel like these important skills should continue to be taught in the format of a formal lesson, but I don’t know if Big Blue even has the capability to do so, seeing as their pool doesn’t have a deep end to practice them in, that I’m aware of at least.

Big Blue is a fantastic way for kids who want to learn how to swim. The classes are not super large so they get direct feedback from the instructor they also have a lot more room to actually practice the strokes they are learning. All of the instructors are super friendly. I love that I can customize my classes to fit my schedule and also how much my kid wants to progress. (30 minute lessons to an hour lessons)
When life gets in the way, rescheduling a lesson is a breeze.

I am so glad I found Big Blue Swim! My boys are 8 & 11 and have had lessons from other places but they have never progressed in swimming the way they have here and in such a short time too! Big Blue has an incredible systematic way of teaching that ensures proper development in simple steps. The way they teach really develops confidence as the kids can see and feel their accomplishments of moving through levels. Even though the kids may be in lessons with other kids, the swim teacher and the advisors monitor the kids individually so that as they master techniques they are moved on or up to learning the next thing. They also inform the child’s adult of what the child learned in that days lesson. We began with the week long “jump start” series they offered but we will be continuing with them through the school year. All of the instructors have been great! I’m excited for my boys to gain this new confidence in the water! I would’ve loved to discover Big Blue sooner, but am really glad we are with them now! I highly recommend them!

It's a great facility. Big Blue worked with my homeschooling needs and helped me get set up paid up front and adjust some scheduling things along the way. I like the structure of learning at a child's pace and set up for having similar levels in their own lanes. It's very well matched to the child's needs.
Very professional and I appreciate the organization and how stretched the flow of going into class and out to shower and change is.
Instruction wise note that it starts your children learning forward on their belly swimming, obviously after working on breathing and such. If you prefer them to start learning to float in their back then try another swimming instruction group. The rec center had back/floating instruction first in semi private swim lessons not sure on their normal lessons. We are trying big blue and we will see how it goes with a new swimmer learning the front crawl first. Both have their pros and cons.

Went to big blue for about 8 months. My son is 7 and started from the beginning phase. He will be ready to start the Orem swim team this summer. He made a lot of small progress and now is a confident swimmer. Thanks Big Blue.

Both my boys (ages 4 and 6) had no idea how to swim. My 6 year old was progressing really well. He learned his strokes and with practice got better and better. The classes only have up to 4 children, but I did notice that he did a lot better the less children there were. My son has add and gets bored super fast, so he needs one on one time. Luckily for us, at the end of the year, the classes ended up having only him or sometimes one or 2 other children. If they still kept having 3 or 4 children I would have put him in private lessons with someone here. He definitely progressed faster when he was on his own. My 4 year old isn't progressing as much. He seemed to be stuck with his back stroke for a long time. His teachers are very patient and friendly. This place was 10 times better than the rec center we went to for swimming lessons before.the staff are friendly and the place is clean. I love that I can watch my boys through the glass easily. I definitely recommend this place.

We have loved Big Blue. I like the ease of entry, it’s 1 minute and my kid is already in the water. And less than 5 minutes after class we’re back at the car. So much easier than lugging wet kids and other littles through a rec center. I also like the ease of scheduling missed classes, it’s awesome that you can do make ups.

Anxious to see in a couple months if my kids are better swimmers

Love Big Blue! They are very accommodating and have a ton of class times to choose from. As a former swim instructor, the teaching approach is different from the methods I was taught but I really enjoy the way the Big Blue program works. The class sizes are usually small (from what I have seen) which gives more attention to each student. The teachers are great at explaining the skills and adapting to the child’s needs. There is always a manager available to check on students and pass off stars and give updates on student’s progress to the parents.
James is a fantastic manager and is amazing at keeping me in the loop with my daughter’s progress.

We have been going to Big Blue for a few months and have been SO happy with it. Our boys have made really great progress. The facility is clean, has a great viewing area, and doesn’t have the loud echoing sound that many pools have. I appreciate that the groups are small and that my kids have specialized attention because the teachers aren’t split in so many different directions. They do frequent check ins with me on the progress my kids are making and the app is very user friendly. 10/10 recommend. 👍

We really liked it at first. Our kid loved his first instructor but they changed instructors on us multiple times. Not to say the next few weren’t good but it would feel like we were starting over on his progress. Our son is more wary of water and having to get comfortable with new people isn’t what we wanted to focus on during his swim lessons. Also a couple times we weren’t even given a heads up about the switches. His current instructor is great but we just received another email that his instructor is changing… again. We are going to take a break and maybe try again next summer.

I am really disappointed in this place. My children attended swimming classes for 4 months, during this time I observed how the staff showed discrimination towards people with Hispanic features, even the teachers who were obviously also of Latin origin. I don't recommend this place.
In many classes they waste your time, so that the child does not advance. For the cost, I think they should be more professional.

Big Blue Swim School has been an absolute splash (get it?) for our family! Our two boys have gone from floundering like little fish to swimming with actual technique (and occasionally even in a straight line!). The instructors here have the patience of saints and somehow manage to keep a pool full of kids afloat—both literally and metaphorically. Watching them coax out real skills while handling splashes, cannonballs (don’t worry, no diving is allowed), and occasional underwater cartwheels is nothing short of magical. This has been a legit experience and our boys look forward to their lessons each week!

I'm generally very happy taking my 4y.o daughter here for swim lessons. Her regular instructor Savannah is really fun, friendly, patient and good at teaching her.
Not 5 stars because they have no place to give negative feedback or anonymous complaints. Today my daughter had a make-up lesson with Samantha and she should NOT be working with small kids. She was very impatient anytime any of the three kids didn't follow instructions perfectly or got a little distracted. She benched two of the kids (including my daughter) without telling them why they were in trouble, and without giving them warning. She told me that it would be for 5 minutes, which is a ton of time when lessons are half an hour long, and it really isnt helpful when the kids dont even know what they did wrong. She wasn't friendly to either the kids or the parents, and she lectured me about practicing at home. The advice was helpful, but her delivery was condescending and rude. It felt like all she cared about was teaching the lesson, not the students. My daughter is enrolled to learn swimming, but having her excited and having fun is priority for my family. This is the first time (and we've been enrolled for half a year) she's asked how much time is left before she can go home.
So, if you don't like this place because you work with Samantha, try working with another instructor.

We’ve been coming to big blue swim since they opened back in 2023. We liked it a lot in the beginning but haven’t enjoyed it as much recently. The facilities are nice and they have lots of seating space, even a counter with outlets if you need to work. They have plenty of changing rooms, and bags to put wet clothes in and hair dryers. The floors feel and look really dirty in a lot of the common areas but for the most part it’s relatively nice.
Most of the teachers are kind. But some lack patience with the kids and would get easily annoyed with kids being kids. In the class we ended in my kid was one of 4 kids between 4-6 in the class to one teacher. This was frustrating because the lesson is only 30 minutes and with 4 kids there was less time spent teaching than wrangling the kids to listen.
During each lesson the kids are working on pass of items to move up in swim levels. Sounds great but not a great method on tracking it. The teachers don’t normally have notes of what each kid needs to do and what pass offs the kids have left. We’d waste so many lessons on the teachers doing stuff we’d already passed off before they would realize we didn’t need to work on that anymore to pass off. Lessons were also wasted when your kid is ready to pass off but No one that can pass off is available so you waste a whole lesson and can’t move on because no one can pass off. You pay by lesson so that is frustrating.
We just canceled and I don’t think I could recommend it for the price, it was pricy for the lack of attention and wasted time that happens every lesson.

Nice facility, but I have had multiple issues with communication from this company. Maybe my expectations on professionalism are too high. For the price, you can get the same level of professionalism from the Rec center.
Update: After a month of reflection, I can now add this. This company only communicates for their needs. If you have an issue, you have to text but if they want you to take down your review, they will contact you at opening the next day. They won't talk to you about your account until your spouse comes for the first time, in which case they will gaslight them and confuse your kids, an embarrassing situation. Then if you don't take down your review or discuss it with them at their convenience, they will delete the 2 classes you have already paid for off your account. I highly recommend you do everything possible to stay on their good side or they will punish you. Better yet, try one of the many other schools. I really like Utah Swim Academy for its smaller size.

Updating my review because although we love it, we have one big issue with it! Their lessons expire, so between a new baby and frequent travel and illness, we have lost 4-6 lessons that we don't get back. That is a LOT of money for us right now, and ultimately one of the reasons we decided to stop going for the time being. Lessons shouldn't expire when you've already paid for them.
Additionally, we have emailed and texted on the contact info provided and never hear back from anybody. Communication is very difficult unless you go in person.
We LOVE big blue swim school!! We love that it's indoors so we can go year round, we love the changing areas, the free WiFi and parent area, the showers, how small the classes are (personal instruction) but most of all we love the progress our daughter is making!! She can swim a lot better on her own than when she started a few months ago! We recommend this place to everyone!

My toddler’s class always had a rotating instructor, some were good some were bad and it wasn’t until we found Alondra that we requested her in our new schedule for our kids. In July 16 they changed my son’s instructor to Shay and it was the worst class my son has ever had, she didn’t follow the routine, skipped my son’s turn and added the floaty backpack on a kid’s chest when they were trying to practice floating. I didn’t bring it up because the next class we had Alondra again but in the last 2 weeks we had Shay again and her classes still don’t have a routine and she doesn’t talk to the kids right. During today’s class in the next lane from where my son was there was another instructor teaching older kids, I think it was Taiza? Anyway, she was very rude to all the kids in her class until one girl in her class started crying so her mom came in the pool area and asked what happened, they just brushed it off saying she was having “an off day” and then the instructor continued the class with a more gentler tone because a mom was there.
My son has had classes with Janna before and she also seemed so careless and as if she hated working with kids.
My baby has had his class with Jessie for a while and she is awesome! So I’m leaving 3 stars because Jessie and Alondra are great

We've been attending Big Blue for about 6 months. We do one weekly lesson. At first it was a little rough. The school was new, we didn't know what to expect, but mostly my son gets panicked when water touches his face.
Whether by chance or planning they had two teachers his first lesson and he was able to do it solo. They had this kid dunking his own head like it was nothing. I was very impressed. The next few times his teacher kept changing and it wasnt bad but I didn't feel like he was progressing as much.
I found out I could choose a preference of teacher and they'd try to schedule them for his slot. At that point it was clear he was excelling more. I'm writing this review now after about a month of Finn being with another new teacher. I wanted to compliment them on their staff. Ty is his current instructor and he has been fantastic. My son loves his lessons with him. Ty is very good at managing multiple kids at multiple levels, and he is engaging and kind.
This is why I'm giving Big Blue 5 Stars. Their staff is kind and works hard to help the kids learn and feel comfortable, but also push them to do hard things.
Good job team.
