There are so many great things to say about Big Blue I'm sure I'll miss a few but here's what I've got:
1. Fantastic value! $30 for a half hour is a sweet deal in the world of kiddie swim lessons. I've shelled out $25 for just 15 minutes, kill me now!
2. The teachers are on the ball with safety and patience. My toddler loves the water so much he struggles to stay on the bench and so they pulled in an extra person just to keep him safe while continuing the lesson.
3. They're great with scheduling and makeup lessons, especially when you have multiple kids!
4. They've got a little play area that the kids love climbing all over for the kiddos who aren't in a lesson.
5. The pool layout is very clever so you know exactly where you need to go.
6. There's always plenty of changing rooms so you don't have to wait a turn and they all have changing tables for the babies.
7. There's plenty of room for parents to sit and watch the lesson.
8. They give can report their progress to you in person and it's available in the parent portal.
9. They celebrate the wins with you, our daughter was thrilled with her little certificate and gold ribbon when she moved up a class.
For us, they've been nothing but a godsend for helping our kids to have safe fun in the water. If you're needing swim lessons for your kiddos, these are the folks you want!

Love this place! They seem to have thought of everything!… Warm water/air in the pool area, a separate seating area if parents want a cooler place to watch, play area for before/after lessons and/or siblings during lessons, disposable bags for wet swimsuits if you forgot one, showers in the warm area to rinse off on your way to the dressing rooms, lots of dressing rooms, etc., etc! The place is clean and tidy. Their staff is also extremely friendly and helpful! They’ll respond quickly to messages/phone calls, are accommodating to child needs, and update parents on child progress. By the way they teach you can tell they’re knowledgeable on how to teach proper swimming skills. My child has grown a lot in just a few months! So glad we chose this place! My 3 year old son is very naughty and super active. I was worried that he wouldn’t listen to and cooperate with the coach at all, but after observing two private lessons , I feel like the young coach, Mr. Lars, is very patient and fun and my son likes working with him. It’s surprising that he’s actually following Mr. Lars’ instructions most of the time and has not been making trouble. I feel happy with our private lessons here!

The facilities are great and there is lots of seating outside the pool area for families that don't want to be in the very hot pool area where the kids are swimming. There are plenty of changing rooms and a counter with hair dryers if you don't want your hair to air dry. That being said, my two boys have been taking swim lessons from Big Blue for about 3 months now. My 4 yr old is getting confident in the water and is able to back float and have his whole face in the water (big improvement for him). My 6 yr old, however does the same exact exercises every week and seems to get no correction from his teacher on what he can do to get better. At this point I feel I could be a better teacher for his age group. All his class does is swim from one edge of the pool to the other with no goal to try and keep his legs straight this time, or to focus on floating his hips at the water surface. He has been stuck for a month with no progress. I also see other parents getting updates for their kids on their progress from staff members. My husband has received an update from a member of staff for our 4 yr old, but in 3 months, no one has talked to us about our 6yr old. To sum up, great building set up, but for the money, you'd be better off teaching your kid at the rec pool on your own time.

I really wanted to like this place, and gave it several months to see if there was any improvement, but I honestly just think the system is flawed.

It was frustrating to watch 30 minutes of lessons really only equate to 5ish minutes of actual instruction for my 4 yr old. Splitting attention between multiple toddlers seems impossible, especially if one of the children is misbehaving (which is to be expected, they’re toddlers).

It was also hard with inconsistent instructors, some were great and some were just too passive or didn’t put much effort into the lessons.

I don’t know that I saw any improvement with my child’s skill level in the 3+ months we did lessons.

I have had my daughter in private swimming lessons since she was 6 months old. I wanted to bring her somewhere closer so we tried Big Blue. Sadly she started regressing in her swimming lessons. She now tries to lift her head and ends up lifting her whole body and doggy paddling. I've talked to the managers a few times and feel like i'm not able to get my concerns across. I feel that if it's your child's first experience with swimming, then BB would be good. For people who have already have some experience, then they might regress learning a new way of swimming. For my older 2, BB has been good since they have a good foundation of swimming.

We love Big blue in Saratoga Springs. My kids have made a ton of progress in only one month of lessons. I appreciate their structure and setup, the instructors are friendly, patient, and knowledgeable, the space is clean and organized, the price is very reasonable compared to other options in the area. My kids love going to lessons. The only complaint I have is how the instructors have to raise their hand and wait for one of the supervisors to come evaluate the kids to move them up to the next level. The impression is that there aren’t enough supervisors to make rounds in time for each kid to be evaluated during that lesson. My kids have had to wait till the next lesson to be evaluated and receive their “stars” for skills acquired, or be bumped up to the next level. When time and money is involved, it is a bummer to see time wasted. We continue to love lessons at Big Blue, but I wish the evaluation process was more efficient.

We have been very pleased with our experience at Big Blue so far. Much better than our previous swim school (which was a highly rated swim school as well). The instructors and managers are very friendly and professional. This is very important to us as I have a rambunctious little boy who doesn’t listen to rules, and a rigid, shy older girl who is a stickler to rules. Most of all, it was very easy to communicate with management via Text and the app was actually very useful in viewing the schedule, payments, and my children’s progress. The “journey map” on the wall also helps us understand the goals/milestones which is helpful for a parent like me with no swimming background. We are happy we gave this school a try and look forward to progressing with them further.

The facilites are great, very nice and clean. Staff is very friendly. But my 3 year old daughter didn't learn anything (literally nothing) after 4 months of lessons.

She struggled putting her face in by herself, but staff won't assist unless directly asked by the parent to do so. I asked them (several times) to help her so she could see what it was like to have face submerged and they did a quick dunk and then never did again.

The teachers don't demonstrate and I saw a lot of kids doing things wrong and teacher would just say good job and move on. My daughter didn't understand exactly what she was supposed to do a lot of the time, but teachers would tell her good job and then not pass her off or help her do it right.

We had a different instructor almost every week we were there. There was no consistency.

I also don't like that they use floaties. My daughter can already swim with a floatie, I wanted her to learn to do it without one but they always left the full floatie on her since she didn't yet know how to put her face under, she apparently couldn't move on in anything else either.

Overall, despite the nice facilities and friendly staff, I was very disappointed. Felt like a waste of nearly $500. We tried a new swim school and within the first class, she was able to do everything big blue had taken 4 months to try to teach her. The teachers just don't seem very well trained on how to actually teach kids and help them improve. I will say my daughter had a lot of fun, but if you want your kid to actually progress, I wouldn't recommend.

My kids (5 and 7) have improved so much in just a month of swim lessons. Both are confident independent swimmers and our summers are more fun because I don’t have to stress about having non swimmers. Only draw back is how expensive it is.

Pool is indoor and clean and the class is very organized and very clear on what the swimming goals are and how the swimmer can move up class levels. They must teach swim lessons right because I have never seen my kids improve so fast compared to the other locations we have gone for swim lessons.

The big blue swim school is incredible. The classes are anywhere from 1-3 kids normally. It is very personalized, they keep track of your child’s skills and work on what your child needs. Once they have master the skills in that class they move up to the next class at their own pace. The instructors all seem to be trained very well and are patient and kind. We have enjoyed our experience swimming here. Initially, there was some inconsistency in the schedule and we didn't have a consistent teacher each week which can be hard for young children to have to adapt to a new person each time. My son was nervous in the water at first and we weren't satisfied with the first teacher he was assigned who was extremely strict with the children but the staff was very understanding and helpful in making a switch to a teacher who better fits his personality and needs. He is now excited to come to swim lessons, having fun, and much more confident in the water. Hunter is his new teacher and he makes lessons fun while also keeping consistent limits with the kids. It is also convenient to swim here because it is close to home. Would love more options for weekday morning swim lessons.

Update: Once my son passed level one, we had difficulty finding a good fit/consistent teacher again. We tried a few and all of them seemed frustrated with my son or just didn't seem to like him. We ended up requesting a specific teacher that might be a better fit and the staff helped us sign up for her class but then they assigned a new teacher to the class by the time we showed up to the first lesson. There is a lot of turnover here and we have been switched through quite a few different teachers. I am aware that my son has a sensitive, spirited, and strong willed personality and group lessons might not be a good fit. But it has been a bit heartbreaking as his mom to watch the teachers' facial expressions and tone of voice change while they are working with him and know that he can sense the negative energy from them. We decided to stop lessons since he's not learning or improving much. He doesn't seem to like it and hasn't been giving it much effort so it doesn't seem worth our investment. I mentioned this to the teacher and instead of offering encouragement, she just said "yeah, I don't blame you." Overall, we have felt a bit misunderstood and frustrated by our experience.

There are several swim schools out there. What does make Big Blue in Saratoga stand out?

Beside general cleanliness and tidiness, a solid learning program with clearly defined goals, comfortable atmosphere... it's the staff. These guys know how to pick the good ones! They're accommodating, knowledgeable, personal, happy, and so kind! If there's an issue with attendance or scheduling, they're eager to solve it.

Sam, who is a manager is one of the kindest and sweetest people I've encountered. He didn't hesitate to go way above and beyond what was needed to make sure my son was able to get in a lesson.

I pay monthly, 30 minutes per child. Trial lesson was good. First experience upon enrollment was horrible—trainer-trainee ratio was insane. You simply can’t have 3 kids — aged between 3-5 per trainer — when we only have 30 minutes each week. I watched the trainer spending almost half the time (30 minutes) trying to tame the unruly child. Essentially, each child hardly had 10 minutes of training. Essentially, this is bait and fraud. Trainers are pretty fine and this isn’t their fault—it’s management! Following this experience, I had to advise my relatives to go a different direction. I will certainly go a different direction at the end of the month.

My 4 kids really enjoy their lessons at Big Blue! We have only been going for a month and they have adjusted comfortably to the water, which some of them (the younger 2) have had issues with prior to starting. The classes can get a bit crowded at times, taking away from progress per child I feel, but you’re pay for the group class, not individual, so it’s doable. I also really love the make-up lesson option! We aren’t always able to make our usual lesson time so I am grateful we can schedule for other days/times as well.

This establishment is so cute and we have had a wonderful experience with the staff, especially thoughts who normally teach their baby 1 class. The one downside is I do think it is pricey to put your child in swim lessons, but this may be true for any location. They have a great viewing area and fun foam toys for other littles to play on.

My child did not like floating on his back which is why we signed up and I would say he is more comfortable in water and tolerates being on his back now. So I have seen improvements even for a toddler.

Tried to do a trial swim lesson here twice, they both got cancelled. One was cancelled 30 minutes before and the other as we were walking inside the building after 20 minutes of driving which left us with very disappointed kids. I can’t imagine actually paying for lessons and having to go through this every time. The lessons are also incredibly overpriced for group lessons. Will not be going back.

The first time i did a trial the front desk wasn't very friendly or helpful i thought i would give it a try again the next year and when we showed up they said they cancelled class and sent out a text/email i got nothing and i drove 30 min. My little guy was so disappointed and upset. Not a good experience at all with this place

Our kids are excelling here. I was apprehensive at first and wasn’t sure how much they were picking up and after the first several lessons one of my children moved up and level and the other was close behind. My daughter went from being terrified to get in the water and unwilling to try to learn to swim to swimming freestyle and backstroke on her own. Thanks Big Blue!

First swim day at big blue was a success! My son is exactly 3 mo old to start his fist lessons. The staff was friendly and showed us around. The class was great! Got him in the water just fine! He’s not big enough to be able to submerge his face just yet. I look forward to more classes and him being comfy in the water right out of the gate!

In general the facilities are nice and clean I think the instructors mean well but I never had a moment to speak to the instructor or assess their qualifications for teaching my child. I think my main concern is their website and the way they book the appointments. One of my core beliefs is that when doing business it is important to receive what you paid for. My issue here is I got signed up for their 6 lessons for $35 promotion. But for some reason they only give us 4 lessons for $35... so wasn't really clear on how the other 2 appointments were supposed to happen Plus somehow in there we got signed up for a monthly charge so there was no way to obtain those monthly lessons because at the first of the month we were getting charged for a monthly fee. Additionally my son got sick and had to stay in the hospital so we haven't been able to use any of these swimming lessons and we can't stop the barage of charges plus they have a 30 day cancelation policy. So we have this Giant stack of makeup lessons and I'm still waiting for my son to get better. I think what would be better for me is a punch pass so I don't have to get stuck in some subscription that we can stick to. So I will be trying Swimkids which has a 10 punch pass that I don't have to pay a continuing monthly fee or worry about trying to get my moneys worth on a $100+ monthly subscription.

We were looking to get our kiddos enrolled in swim lessons, but all of the places we had looked at didn't have lessons that meshed well with our busy schedules. We had a friend suggest Big Blue Swim School to us. The schedule flexibility, the easy to use application to check-in, view your kiddos progress, schedule additional lessons, schedule make-up lessons, is a huge plus. The staff is so friendly, professional and passionate about what they do. Seeing our kiddos confidence grow with each lesson has been so rewarding, and knowing that they are learning skills that will help them for life; it's a great feeling. Love this place. We have tried a few different swim schools in the area and this is by far the best! The manager is awesome and the instructors are so personable and patient with the kids. They have different tools to help the kids with their form and build confidence in the water. Amazing place! My 5-year-old always looks forward to the lessons, and has clearly benefitted from them. She's gone from clinging to me all the time in the water and being too nervous to try new things to always looking forward to showing what she can do in the water.
The staff all seem to know what they're doing, are pretty well organized, and seem to comunicate frequently, even if there has to be a substitute for a class. It also helps that the classes are specifically structured to be very small to help the kids on a more personal basis. Plus, they're quite flexible in being able to make up a class you need to miss, so you can always get your money's worth.
If it weren't for the lessons themselves being so expensive, I'd give them 5 stars.

We have been coming to Big Blue every Sunday for a few months now. My boys and I love it! The staff is always so welcoming & friendly. They take their time each lesson to make sure both of my boys feel comfortable and understand what they are supposed to be focusing on each lesson. Every time one of my kids passes off on something they have been working towards , they make it a big deal and make sure my kids feel so accomplished and proud of themselves.
They are also so easy to work with for anything!! They have always worked with us and have accommodated us for any changes that we have needed.
We really appreciate everyone at Big Blue!

My kids have been here for a while now and I have 3 enrolled. Two out of the three kids have only moved up once in the 3 ish months we’ve been here. Not all on them because my kids also have a play in that. But with that said I’m a little disappointed that they aren’t making the progress I feel that they should be. I think four in one lane is too much and too crowded for the 30 min class. I think the facility is clean and things seem to be organized. It is a beautiful place and they did a really good job.

I absolutely recommend to come to Big Blue for swim lessons!! My son has Kolby as his instructor and I cannot say enough good things about Kolby and his patience and kindness! My son used to go to Lehi rec center for swim lessons and made some progress, but was still unable to swim on his own. We have now been at Big Blue since they opened in 2024. My son not only can swim, he can do multiple kinds of stokes. We love Big Blue!!!

We've been coming to Big Blue for a while now. We started at the Orem location and moved to the Saratoga Springs location when it opened. Both locations have been so amazing to work with especially as my kid is ASD/ADHD. Big Blue went out of their way to help her get comfortable with the lesson structure, whistles, floating devices being put on her and walking her around the facility so she doesn't get lost. The staff are kind and helpful and are very encouraging with the students.

We have really loved our experience at Big Blue. We have three kids ages 10, 8 and 6. They have been extremely helpful and our kids love all of the instructors. We have been very happy with Big Blue Swim School. Our son was at a different facility prior to moving here and had kind of stopped progressing in his swim skills and the facility just let him stay where he was with no change. After the move he has made huge strides in his skills and endurance when swimming. On top of this, Big Blue has a great facility with plenty of area for parents to watch as well a lot of changing areas for after the lesson. Overall, I would highly recommend Big Blue for swim lessons.

My kids have been attending Big Blue swim school for a couple of months. They've gone from unsure of themselves in the water to being able to jump right in to the deep end and swim across the pool.

My favorite thing about the school is the way they structure their lessons, and the ability to track the specific skills they need to improve on. Getting the ribbon for moving up a class is a great confidence boost, too!

I love bringing my kids to BBS! We’ve had a wonderful experience. I love that the pool is indoors and year round, so my kids can attend lessons weekly and keep progressing without waiting for summer. We’ve had probably 4 teachers with regular and make up lessons. Every one of them have worked very well for our son.

Our son is a toddler and has had a lot of attention deficit problems. Happy, but impulsive.

The teachers and lifeguards have done a good job creating enough structure to teach, but not too much to make it difficult for my kid to behave.

We’ve had an awesome experience at this swim school. The small group structure is fantastic for kids who have some confidence issues. It definitely helps to be able to have other kids with them doing the same thing and showing them how. Neomi is so amazing but we’ve also swam with and watched other instructors and they’re all so great with all levels of swimmers.
