Our daughter has been a student of Koleton's and Nick's for several years now, and we couldn't be happier to support their studio(s). We love Bobby Lawrence Karate but we love Koleton and Nick even more! If they left BLk we would probably follow them! They are so good with the kids, giving them a great mix of kindness and discipline. They have great knowledge of karate and how to teach it to a child, you can tell they really love karate and their job. Our son absolutely loves Karate and has really excelled in his day to day life from the lessons and confidence he has learned.

Koleton and Nick are incredible instructors and incredible people. They are passionate about what they are doing and the success of every kid not just in karate, but they care about their success at home and in school! They are kind, so patient with the kids while teaching discipline in fun ways. My son has so much respect for his instructors and is always working hard to make sure he doesn't disappoint them. I've loved watching his progress over the last 2 ish years and I look forward to seeing his continued progress and growth. I love that they focus on a life lesson each month and include the kids in the discussion and remind them in different ways each class. I also love that they don't promote your kid just to promote and collect money. They really watch your child's progress and efforts in class and then check in that they are transferring those positive skills in other aspects of their life at home and at school. Great place!

The owners and instructors, Nick and Koleton take martial arts very seriously, but even more importantly, they take knowing and caring for each individual student to heart. They always greet each individual student as they come in the door and ask them about things specific to their lives.
The studio is always welcoming and inviting and kept extremely clean. The equipment is kept immaculate and up to date. The karate instruction is detailed, but I also love the character and confidence building taught each week.

The instructors at BLK are amazing. My son has been in karate for over 2 years and has made big strides in learning respecting others, (peers and adults) motivation, social interaction and what perseverance can do. We tried Bobby Lawrence Karate and even though my son didn't love the sport the coaching staff was great! They worked patiently with each child through their skills and also taught the purpose of discipline and work ethic in each class. I really liked that we could try some classes and not be fixed into a contract...If we ever try karate again we'll try Bobby Lawrence.

My son has adhd and we are in the middle of switching meds trying to figure out school and I signed up for the year prior to this. I tried talking to them. They didn’t care. I had a doctors note and everything saying that right now it’s not the best time to have him in karate and they wouldn’t refund my money no matter what. They told me no. They don’t value you only your money as long as DJ is getting paid. I would never refer anyone I know to go here. $1100 down the trash I hate greedy people

I'm a single mother who works 2 jobs to provide for my son. I decided to cancel his classes because 1. The lessons consist of multi-step choreographed moves which are complicated and do nothing to instill confidence in one's fighting ability. 2. My son wasn't punching correctly but no one corrected him, so when I tried at home he didn't listen because his Sensei didn't say it was wrong. 3. With the progress non-existent, I felt the money could be spent better elsewhere.

Here's where I ran into a previously unknown rule. You cancel you pay 300 or for the remaining lessons. Not only that, but the cancellation didn't go through because they charged me for a tip test so there wasn't enough money available. So they charged me for another month and added a late fee.
Time with my son is precious and 300 dollars is 3 days away from him. I do not recommend and I am seriously unhappy with everything about my experience here.

We went for my sons first lesson to see if he wanted to continue with karate. They were awesome. It’s a private session so he’s not nervous and it’s a very positive experience to help build his confidence. The first day my son and I went in for a private lesson. I didn't even know if I was at the right place because no one greeted me when I walked in and finally I had to ask someone if I was in the right place or not. We went in the room to start his lesson and we kept getting interrupted. The second private lesson I walked in and still no one was at the front counter to greet me I stood there for 15 mins before anyone even came to get my son my son's instructor was 15 mins late to our app. I had warned the instructor about my son having ADHD and that hes not able to focus real well he then tells me at the end of our second appointment that he thinks my son (5) is not ready and to try to come back later. My son has ADHD and has issues behaving he needs a little extra help and discipline I think instructors need to read up more about ADHD and have a little bit more compassion and patience when it comes to kids with ADHD. I was really hoping this Could be something that he could do to get him out of the house to get him moving. I was also hoping that it would help him with his behavior issues and his ADHD. But I was just pushed away and told he wasn't ready. Instructor was nice but it felt rushed. I think I'm going to look around for another karate studio and hopefully they will be willing to help my son succeed in karate and his everyday life living with ADHD. - eileen

My 2 kids ages 8 & 9 attended their first lesson. DJ was absolutely AWESOME with them! He was quick on showing my kids about respect, special techniques, and my kids were very ‘shy’ at first.. they had a HUGE smile on their faces throughout until the end.

I love this karate studio, I have been in it for 6 years. DJ is one of the best guys you will ever meet, he is always going out of his way to make students feel comfortable, as well as making sure they are understanding and learning. I am a black belt at this dojo and I am also an instructor, so I know that all instructors are helpful to students and to DJ. This studio has taught me so many things, some of those being: self defense techniques, kick boxing combos, kick combos, karate forms, weapons forms, and even lots of cool tricks. This dojo has also taught me self discipline, self confidence and self respect. I HIGHLY recommend this place!!

Love this place. He was supper good with my son. I was concerned because my son is on the spectrum, but the private lesson went great. My son didnt feel like he was being criticized when he made a mistake. He really enjoyed it. He may not be able to remember how to say perry but he remembers how to do it. He still hasnt stopped saying yes sir, and yes mam. From a 6 year old thats cute. I even found my son telling his sister how to be respectful. So just one lesson has made quite an impression.

I was excited to attempt karate with my daughter for the first time. She can be shy at first, especially when it comes to direct engagement, but seemed interested enough. So I decided to at least take her in and get a feel for it. We found BLK of Layton and scheduled a meeting, which was quite simple. From that first intro meeting, it was seamless. Dj connected with my daughter straight away! (Side Note: I loved how he reaffirmed respect. Encouraging her to be helpful and kind at home because he needs to know his students are respectful when they leave the dojo.) His professionalism, communication, kindness, and warm hearted character, solidified my decision in Bobby Lawrence Karate of Layton. My daughter is now more excited than I could have imagined.

He’s great at working with each student individually and really explaining things to them in a way that makes sense and helps them learn quickly! After checking 3 different martial arts schools, my 6 year-old daughter decided to go with Master DJ. It's more than a year now that she comes to his class and she always has fun. Her confidence and self-esteem has improved a lot. DJ is a great and fun instructor. A good role model for my children.
