It all started back in 2009 at the Foxtrot Sugarhouse location—six months of pure butt-kicking bootcamp bliss that had me hooked on circuit training. Fast forward to 2025, and my only regret is not crawling back sooner (seriously, why did I let my glutes go unsupervised for so long?).
Now I’m back at Bootcamp with Jess at the Midvale spot, and it feels like a family reunion—except this family makes muscles you forgot you have feel everything. Every single day is a new workout that’s equal parts strength-building, sweat-inducing, and bootie-kicking, and I weirdly love it.
I roll in at 5:00 a.m. (yes, by choice) and the best part? I don’t have to plan a thing. Jess tells me what fresh torture—I mean workout—we’re doing, I survive an hour, and then leave feeling like I could wrestle a bear or at least crush a workday with energy to spare.
This place is the real deal: amazing workouts, amazing people, no complaining, and the best price for serious training. Basically, it rocks—and so will your quads.

Joining Bootcamp with Jess has been one of the best decisions I’ve made since having my baby. After struggling to find the motivation and right kind of workout to help me, bootcamp was exactly what I needed.
Jess creates such a welcoming, supportive, and energizing environment—perfect for all fitness levels, especially postpartum moms like me. The workouts are challenging but incredibly doable, and Jess always offers modifications if needed. I never felt judged or out of place, just empowered.

Updated May 2025: One of my goals when I worked with Jess for 12+ weeks last fall was to strengthen my lower body and prep my muscles for ski touring season from January - April. Since I started touring a few years ago, I’ve had the same hip pain every winter that keeps me from enjoying and/or finishing my planned tours. Bootcamp helped me achieve goal for this winter and then some - I finished the season completely pain free and strong enough to dust my dude touring partners that used to cruise past me. I missed the culture of Bootcamp so much that I just signed on for another 12 weeks and don’t foresee myself stopping anytime soon. It’s worth every penny and every second of my time.

Bootcamp with Jess has been one of the best experiences of my life! While he pushes you to do your best, Jess is also incredibly supportive. He really wants you to succeed and will help you achieve your goals. Over 12 weeks, I’ve lost weight and gained so much strength - and I’ve had so much fun doing it. This is my first week, I love jess, he gives encouragement just at the moment you need it. Super nice friendly and it's very well priced. I signed up for 12 weeks, and I think I'm going to see a big difference I already have heard from 2 people in my life that my arms are looking more toned. Bonus is that it's a 5 minute walk from me! Fantastic Bootcamp Experience !!
I’ve been attending this gym for a month and I can confidently say it’s one of the best fitness experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a positive, motivating atmosphere that pushed me to go beyond my limits.
The workouts are intense but fun! Every session is different, focusing on a mix of strength and endurance. The variety keeps things exciting and challenging, and I’ve noticed significant improvements in my stamina, strength, and overall fitness.
One of the best parts about this gym is the sense of community. The group dynamic really motivates you to push harder.

I started bootcamp 10+ years ago and always manage to find my way at back. You will get a great workout whether you are looking for strength training or endurance. Bootcamp is fun, exciting, challenging. We never do the same workout twice! Bootcamp combines the best of cardiovascular and strength training. Expect to challenge your mind and body as you alternate between high and low intensity exercises through timed intervals of free weights, plyometrics, cardio training & balance work. Worth every penny. Jess really knows his stuff. It’s a great group atmosphere and the best type of workout for what I like to do. He keeps your heart rate up the entire workout and bases the workout around resistance training that can adapt to any level. Really a genius group training workout plan. I am sad to be moving away and unable to attend anymore. I did it for a little over a year and had great results. Increased strength, decreased body fat, and my knee pain completely resolved. The gym, program, and instructor (Jess) Thomas get my highest recommendation.

Signing up for Bootcamp with Jess Thomas is was one of the best things I ever did for my life. I saw almost immediate results physically and not only did I get healthier and stronger my mental health was completely transformed. Jess has such a supportive and fun personality and all of the members and other instructors make it such a wonderful environment. I currently relocated to another state and I have tries every fitness program available (almost) and I cannot find anything like Bootcamp. I came here at first to help my son. He is young and overweight. I needed help in teaching him how to be more mindful of his weight and learn how to be disciplined enough to workout while using the proper workout techniques. Not many places accept your kids. I believe if anything young children need it the most, to help them learn and use these as they grow. Jess welcomed us and worked so amazingly well teaching my son how to be disciplined, how to have a better workout technique, as well as so much more! It’s become our second family. I just returned from a 3-week vacation at my daughters in Midvale, Utah, who works out at Boot Camp with Jess every day they are open. I accompanied her each day I was there. I was a person that had never actually worked out before so when I started bootcamp with Jess I was kind of intimidated due to my own lack of exercise, but then I tried it out and I just feel so much more confident overall and it has changed my whole perspective on working out and being fit! Thomas the instructor is amazing and is personable and gets to know you and is just great with his attitude! I started Bootcamp With Jess in August/September 2019 because I had gained some weight and needed to get healthier. I really didn't expect the results that I have gotten. I dropped 30LBS really fast and have maintained my weight for the past few months, even losing a little during the holidays. As a physician in the community, I try to be a good example of health and practice the very things I preach to my patients. Jess and company have helped me accomplish this. Since August 2019, I've lost 10 lbs, gained 5lbs of muscle, and had my body fat % drop from 25 to 20. These are some of the greatest people you will know. Working out can be intimidating, not here! You are going to get yelled at, you are going to sweat and be pushed to your limits but you will feel the love and support, not only from the staff but from the other clients. I just realized that I 've never worked out before! I've had gym passes at all of the local warehouse clubs, but the $20 per month was just never motivating enough. Even when I found time to go to the gym, I would move the machines up and down and maybe break a sweat, but that was not a real workout. I spent over ten years as a stunt performer for the Nitro Circus. With over a decade of a physical and dangerous job believe it or not I had a list of injuries! Some injuries worse than others and because of these I slowly became less and less active. I started to notice my arms where getting skinnier and my belly was sticking out further than it was supposed to. I think my wife noticed this before me because she signed us up for Boot Camp with Jess After the first two days I could hardly walk up stairs or lift my arms. I thought about quitting but Jess was so motivating and some how he made me feel that the possibility of quitting didn't exist. I'm so glad he did because after three weeks I started to feel great and my pants started to fit again. I have been with Boot Camp with Jess for over 9 months now and when I started I had to do my push ups on my knees due to a severe wrist injury. Now I can do real push ups again. My legs don't get fatigued after only one run on the ski hills. I renovate old homes for work and believe me it makes my work day so much nicer to be able to carry materials up and down stairs with out running out of breath and having beads of sweat running down my face. Jess is a great human who cares about the health of all his clients. He makes the classes fun and his motivating attitude is contagious and keeps you coming back for more. I recommend Boot Camp with Jess to anyone that wants to improve their life and their health. No matter what shape you are in Jess will get you the results you are looking for!

I loved this place and felt like it was helping me, so I referred 2 great friends. They heard an advertisement on the radio for 6 week bootcamp being auctioned and purchased 2 of them. He would never honor them. Kept saying he was full and couldn’t get them in but even if it was in ten years he would honor them when he had an opening. They just asked for their money back and he would not do anything to make things right with them. I am a hair stylist and have but services in auction before and have always honored them in a timely manner- not ten years later. He got super combative and rude over this and lost my business and respect. He said they purchased a different class then bootcamp but she has the voucher that was printed showing exactly what was auctioned off. He still has not done anything to honor these vouchers or refund the money. They were purchased before Christmas 2017. I was super bummed to be treated the way he treated me after talking so highly of him and giving him my own business and referring 2 of my best friends to him. If this issue would of been handled the wAy it should have I would of given him a higher review.

I have been in and out of diets with no success. I needed some discipline and when a friend suggested me “join the bootcamp” I had no idea what she was talking about.
I came with the idea I was going to be the worst one not even doing half an hour of their program...

Think about "play" as a kid. Remember how much fun it was to run, jump, throw, climb and drag your Radio Flyer wagon? And then do it again the next day? Bootcamp with Jess is "play" for grown-ups. We run on treadmills, jump on the boxes, throw the medicine balls, climb The Wall in the Obstacle Course and drag The Sled. There is even a sand box!
If you want a place with a Jacuzzi hot tub, swimming pool, steam room, and a smoothie bar, look somewhere else. But, if you want to get a complete, full body cardio and strength-training workout, and in just one hour, then come to Bootcamp with Jess. The workouts are certainly not routine, every day Instructors Thomas, Coleman and Leedy have us do something different. Whatever you want to accomplish, at Bootcamp with Jess the Instructors and other PT's are here so see that you succeed!

Wow!!! What can I say....there is so much that I love about Bootcamp with Jess! I have been trained by Jess over the years and recently my husband and I decided we need to get back on track! It's one of the best workouts I have ever done and also one of the most fun! Its so strange to say that I love that we are literally getting our butt's kicked with the biggest smiles on our faces! I started going to Bootcamp with Jesse about 12 years ago. I was a single mom of 2 very young children, exhausted, overweight, depressed and just not as successful in life as I wanted to be. A colleague at work who was radiant and healthy told me about this program and I thought why not? What do I have to lose? Well, it turns out not only did I lost quite a bit of weight, I gained much needed self-respect and happiness as well. This program isn’t easy. Hell week really is hell! I never worked out so hard in my entire life. Instructor Thomas is tough, but he saved me. This program truly did change my life, and I believe saved my life. Jesse changed the way I thought about health. He changed my inner voice and my attitude. He taught me about exercising and how to eat healthy. He taught me that it’s not about how you look, but how you feel. He taught me to LIVE LIFE and have fun!! Over the course of about a year I ended up losing 60 pounds. I had so much energy that keeping up with my kids was a breeze. I changed jobs and got into a great company that has turned into an 11 year career. I am back at Bootcamp to kick start my health again after back surgery. Jesse truly cares so much about people. He is the most dedicated individual I have ever met, he is always there, and he is always happy and full of energy day after day. Even at the 5 am class he gets us all going with smiles on our faces, and the time flies by. He might even dance for you if you’re lucky! I love this program, I love Instructor Thomas and appreciate everything he has done for me and others!

This place is wonderful! Motivating in the best way, and you can tell that they really want you to get fit and be the best version of yourself. If yelling and military-style isn't really for you, the SOT provides a similar program without all the pomp, but I promise you if you start off with Jess then you can handle just about anything thrown at you.
I've been part of the Bootcamp crowd for over 2 years, and it really becomes like a second family here! People here go out of their way to make sure you are having a good experience and want to come back (maybe want isn't the right word... it's still a workout after all). 10/10 I highly recommend, especially considering it's a local establishment with wonderful owners!

I started going to Bootcamp with Jess a little over a year ago. I was running a lot but not doing any other form of exercise. I wanted to drop a few pounds but my main motivation for signing up was to improve my running and overall fitness. I can say with confidence I have achieved that goal. Because of the time I spend at boot camp (including their awesome spin classes) I don’t run as much but as a result of the circuit training I am stronger, have core strength and much better endurance. I ran two half marathons in April that I had also ran last year. I took 23 min off my time on both. I was hoping to do better than last year but that exceeded my expectations; as Instructor Thomas and Coleman will exceed any that you have. Bootcamp with Jess truly is a great place to workout. These guys really can change your life.

My fiancé and I signed up for boot camp because we were getting lazy together and wanted a push to get back in shape. Weve been doing boot camp five weeks now and absolutely love bootcamp with jess and plan on signing back up when this session is done. If you are ready to change your life .... this is the place for you! Instructor Thomas (Jess) and his staff offer a welcome atmosphere and they truly care about your health and fitness. Jess will say. ..."Give me six weeks and I'll change your life!" Well, hes not kidding! I took control of my health and life 10 weeks ago and with the help of Jess I'm stronger, 15 lbs thinner, 3 " off my waist, 2" off my arms, and four dress sizes down! Ive gone from a size 12 to a size 8. Jess has helped motivate me. He has helped me stay on track and encourages me to keep going. Because of Bootcamp with Jess I will never let myself, my health, or my fitness go! Im worth taking care of myself! If you are reading this, you have a mindset to overcome something you have thought you couldn't! After having my last baby I gained a little weight and was not healthy. I tried several gyms and did not have the motivation or the strength to keep going. I had to keep trying - I decided to give Bootcamp with Jess a try. Very accommodating to my work and mom schedule, I found the one hour a day to keep me focused and the strength to be healthier. I went for 6 weeks and lost 2 dress sizes. I am back for another 6 weeks. I have not only built physical endurance, but also mental endurance that keeps me focused. The environment at this location is motivating and personal. Since i started boot camp in march I have gained 8% muscle and lost 6% fat women freak out when they get on the scale and see that they have a weight gain I did the same until I went to my doctor and they did a full exam of my body and told me that they were amazed that I gained 8% muscle and and lost 6% fat they asked me what was I doing I told them I was doing Jesse's boot camp they were amazed at the progress that I have made they told me that some people go to the gym every day and dont get those kind of results i love my new family thank you instructor Thomas your the best

I am 61 years old and have had Type 1 diabetes for decades. This is my 3rd week in Bootcamp with Jess and I am experiencing amazing results! Probably the most significant change is the amount of insulin required to regulate my blood glucose levels. I'm using almost 50% less insulin since starting the program! Jess is so motivating and I actually look forward to my daily session. It is so great to work out with a team of PTs that encourage and support one another! The meal plan is so workable and I am glad to be eating sensibly; I feel great!

There isn’t enough time or space to give “Bootcamp with Jess” the review it deserves; I could write a novel. I’ll try to use as few words as possible so you’ll actually read it.
“Hellweek” is appropriately named, I was so sore but determined. The feelings of accomplishment afterwards gave me a boost in my confidence. I still wear my dog tag on tough days to remind myself I survived Bootcamp. Anyway, every day after that was equally hard, but I each day I gained a little more confidence and recovered more quickly. While I signed up to save myself from spiraling down a black hole I see people of all ages and sizes in the program, each with a different reason for being there. Doesn’t matter, the comradery we among the trainees keeps me showing up every morning at 0500 hours. With nothing but genuine concern, Instructor Thomas pushes you to your limit. I’d never want a one-on-one personal trainer. This is the perfect amount of individual attention combined with group support. I remember on my first day looking up and one gal giving me a thumbs up, mouthing “you can do it”. On my 2nd day, another telling me, “Tuesday’s are always the hardest.” I feel part of something good with people who care. I was pretty scared my first day…. I take that back… my first 10 days! But that’s just me and what I needed to get back on track. After that you see a side of Inst. Thomas you’ll love and enjoy. Moving on to Inst. Coleman… awesome guy. He’s tough! But he’s fun (and a smartass). You really couldn’t get two better military fitness gurus. Every day is different. Every day is a challenge. I like not having to worry about my workout and eating plan. I just show up. That’s easy, right? I follow the “Meals Ready to Eat Plan” pretty darn close. There are lots of options, they are easy, cheap and delicious. I’ve followed diets that tasted yucky at first until you get used to them… this isn’t one of them. Yummy on day 1. My opinion. Take it for what you will. But you’ll only know if you try it yourself. For $10 a day how could you go wrong? I was spending way more than that on junk food and poor decisions. I’m no superstar; I’m a constant work in progress. But you can’t argue, it’s a hellofalot easier when you have someone(s) in your court, cheering you on, finding ways to challenge you, attentive to your limits, looking out for you, entertaining you while you push forward, and just when you think he’s not paying attention……..dun dun daaaa… I will disclose no more. You have to experience it yourself to really appreciate it.

I am starting my 8th week of Bootcamp with Jess and after more than 30 years of using antidepressants, I have been weaned from one of my medications and am in the 3rd week of being weaned from a second medication! I have felt more energetic and I'm so excited about the changes in my mind and body. I've also been able to discontinue my hormone replacement therapy! Such peace of mind. Boot camp with Jess has been both personally “life changing” while proving to be the best corporate/executive team building activity I’ve ever experienced.
I joined Boot camp with the goal of supporting one of my managers who was committed to lose weight prior to her upcoming wedding. Not only did we both lose inches, pounds and dress sizes within our first six week session, but unexpectedly we gained an exceptional appreciation, respect and camaraderie with each other.
The benefits of boot camp have been so evident within our company that a third member of our management team has joined with a fourth preparing to enlist. The benefits are more than just getting in great shape and looking good. The confidence, sense of accomplishment and the “accelerated” team building skills have been HUGE.

Bootcamp With Jess is WHERE IT'S AT!!! I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer two years ago. During my journey of dealing with Cancer, multiple major surgeries, enduring and healing: my mind, body, weight, strength and endurance have all suffered. In these past two years I have gained over 100lbs. You would think that someone like me...extremely overweight, weak, out of shape & out of sorts would NEVER be able to take on something as intense and extreme as Bootcamp!! Well...I DID & I AM & I LOVE IT!! I just finished my 6th week of Bootcamp With Jess and not only have I lost 30lbs & a lot of inches, I have also gained muscle & endurance. However, for me I find that most importantly I have gained strength both mentally and physically. I went to Bootcamp with Jess because I had run out of options. I had failed at everything I tried to do on my own. It didn't matter how many times I tried to diet or go to the gym, I couldn't keep up with my expanding waist line and lack of energy.
With a demanding and stressful job and a young family at home counting on me, I decided to make a change to save my life at the age of 39. My goal was to be in better shape when I turned 40 than when I played baseball in college.
I'll admit it, I was very nervous and ashamed at how out of control my eating had gotten and how I had let myself go. I kept telling myself that my family and my job were more important than my physical wellbeing. After all, there are only so many hours in the day...
When I enrolled in Bootcamp with Jess in January of 2013 because of the encouragement of a great friend, I was expecting to be yelled at because isn't that what boot camp is all about? Instructor Thomas and Instructor Coleman did not disappoint on this front during hell week! "There's muscle underneath all that fat Wallace and I'm going to find it", (while poking my belly as I am doing squats). Good times!
The first 12 weeks of bootcamp, I worked harder than I have at any point in my life at both working out and eating better. My results? I lost over 30 lbs. and had more energy than I have had in years. But that was just the beginning for me.
At some point, and it's different timing for everyone, you become addicted to Bootcamp with Jess. Addicted is a powerful word but I feel it is accurate. I went from sitting in the parking lot 20 minutes early trying to gather the courage to walk in the doors one more day to looking forward to my work out every day (okay, almost every day...).
There is something special about Bootcamp with Jess. The people you go through bootcamp with (including the instructors) are amazing people. Even though everyone has different backgrounds, you are all PT's at bootcamp working toward the same goal. One of my biggest fears was to be judged by others while I was working out. I never felt that even for one day at bootcamp. In reality, it's is just the opposite. Everyone is rooting for you to achieve your goals, it's remarkable really. I love my bootcamp family!
As of this week, I am half way through my 8th month of bootcamp. I have lost 62 pounds and 10 inches off my waist. I feel better than I ever could have imagined 8 months ago. I am 38 lbs. away from my goal of losing 100 pounds.

I have been with Alpha Company for a little over 15 weeks. This is the greatest workout group that I've ever dealt with. Since I started in May, I have lost 4 inches off my waist, 2 inches off of my hips, changed my life with the way that I eat, and have gained a new family to top it off. Instructor Thomas pushes you to your limit, but makes you laugh the entire way. Over the years, I've tried several other workout classes but have always gone back to Bootcamp with Jess. The instructors are committed and the other PT's are supportive to always make sure you have a great workout. It is the most motivating workout group I've ever been involved with - we all share the same determination to reach our goals. Bootcamp with Jess has helped me in all aspects of my life - not just discipline and learning how to eat & cook healthy (great cookbook/meal plan - don't pass that up) but has helped me with anxiety, depression, self esteem and soooo much more. BootCamp with Jess has been WONDERFUL and LIFE CHANGING. I feel LUCKY to have found such an incredible program. Instructor Thomas takes my weight loss/health/strength/endurance training seriously, but with a FABULOUS sense of humor. I feel honored to have become part of the Bootcamp family and have made some amazing friends. In just 4 short weeks so far, I have lost inches and gained confidence in myself. The book of meals that I was given for this lifestyle change has been surprisingly simple to follow and the food is good!

I have been working out at Bootcamp with Jess for almost 2 years. During that time my fitness level has increased significantly. I have lost over 30 pounds and gained lean muscle mass. As someone who enjoys outdoor activities and is very competitive, training at Bootcamp with Jess has really raised the level of my performance, whether that is cycling, skiing or running. But more importantly my current fitness level (endurance and strength) far exceeds that of most people my age, per my physician.
In addition to Jess Thomas being an awesome instructor who pushes you to go beyond what you think you are capable of achieving, the environment in which it is done is very positive and supportive. When I first started I was intimated by the facade of the military, getting through Hell Week and thought perhaps I may have someone yelling at me like you see on The Biggest Loser but it turned out to be the total opposite. Don’t get me wrong, you do have to follow instructions but that is the entire point isn’t it? If you wanted to casually workout, you could do that paying $10.00 per month and show up once in a while. If you want to get in a real work out where your health improves and your body becomes sculpted by really investing hard work, this is the place.

I agree with Kristen Barker. Not sure who this Tom Collins guy is but his statement is false. Instructor Thomas does not harass! He keeps it light and very fun. He's hilarious and cares deeply for his clients. He is passionate about health. I've been with him 6 years and can tell you this Collins guy is talking out of turn. Read the reviews. Everyone loves Jess and his program.
Bootcamp with Jess changed my life. At 49 years old I walked into Jess’s Bootcamp unaware of what I was about to experience. I needed to lose weight and that’s why I was there. What I didn’t realize was just how down and depressed I had become and that I would be given an opportunity to build my confidence, increase my focus, gain physical strength and get my life back. Five months after starting BootcampwithJess I turned 50 and was in the best shape of my life physically, mentally and spiritually. Jess Thomas is the best bootcamp instructor I've ever had! I've been going to Bootcamp with Jess off and on for 3 years. Thomas wants every single person who walks through that door to succeed. Sure he can be a little tough sometimes, but he pushes you when you need it. I don't agree with Tim Collins in the slightest. I've had a great experience and will refer Jess as much as I can.
