This is a World class bouldering facility with only about a dozen gyms nationwide that are on the same level. The setting at this gym often emphasizes fun, creativity and dynamics. Its no surprise then, that it is getting increasingly crowded during peak hours. Fortunately it's open 24/7.

This is easily one of the coolest places that we’ve been on our trip through Salt Lake for work! Everything I love all in one place and incredibly accessible for someone who doesn’t live in the are but still able to enjoy and experience. It was really hard for me to not want to hang out there all day and would have if I would’ve found out about this place sooner. How do we get one of these back home in Denver?! BIG FAN and would love to come back and have the opportunity to stay at the Evo Hotel so that I can enjoy the space even longer 😭

Bouldering Project – The Granary is hands down one of the best climbing gyms around! The space is modern, bright, and beautifully designed, with a great variety of routes for all skill levels — from beginners to advanced climbers. The setting is creative and regularly updated, so there’s always something new to try. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about climbing, always willing to offer tips or guidance. The facility also includes yoga classes, a workout area, and a cozy café where you can relax after a good session. The atmosphere is super welcoming and community-focused — it’s easy to meet people and feel part of the local climbing scene. Definitely a 10/10 experience! 🧗‍♀️💪

Had to take an unexpected train from Reno to Salt Lake. I saw this was one of the only places that was open and walked here in the rain. Logan, the guy behind the desk was welcoming and cool to talk with. The setting of the routes was phenomenal, and the amenities/space were all well above standards. Best gym I've been to outside of my hometown, I loved it and think anyone who likes climbing will too.

The Bouldering Project isn't just a climbing gym, it's an escape. First, let's talk about the climate control. Even when it's a scorching 100°F outside, the gym is cool and comfortable, making those tough climbs bearable. And in the winter, it's perfectly heated – never too cold, never too stuffy. The best HVAC in all climbing gyms in America. Thanks to the owners and great staff like Matt. But the real magic is in the route setting. The setters are constantly changing things up, creating 4-5 new sessions on the wall regularly. This constant innovation means there's always a fresh challenge, and I honestly never get tired of climbing here. It's the perfect combination of climate control and creative routes, making it a true paradise for climbers. Highly recommend!

Great rock climbing gym open 24/7!!!!
I went there April 2025. And the gym was always open! Which is just great to have the availability to climb at your schedule specially if you have crazy work hours and are a night owl like me.

Getting a membership here is a really great deal. The routes have a good variety of difficulty and challenges. The general fitness area is well equipped with multiple cardio equipment and rogue squat racks. The dry sauna is awesome, and the locker rooms are clean. The evo granary campus is an amazing "third place" for community and fitness thanks to BP's presence here.

Great climbing gym. grading can sometimes be inaccurate, an orange can feel like a green and a purple can feel like a black and so on. Would be nice if they had air filters, the chalk can cause me to cough sometimes. Other than that, everything is great

I had my first session at BP today, it was awesome, but I feel like I can’t speak for what it would be like if I was climbing here more regularly.

Setting was interesting and there was a good variety of movement. I loved the hold selection (new and old stuff). Everything I got on felt good and intuitive.

I didn’t love how the grades matched the hold colour as I found the holds repeated across climbs of the same grade which made for a little less variety than there could potentially be. Other than that, I had a super great time trying the sets.

The board area and gym are insane! They have an extended Kilter board, mirrored TB2 and Moonboard 2016. And pretty much all the gym equipment you can think of and more!

I wish I lived in SLC so I could climb here more often. Next time I come to SLC, I will surely revisit BP.

Update 3/26/2025. I decided to come back and give it a shot. The sauna does appear to be upgraded a bit, which is great. But it feels like it sits more at the 150F zone, which isn't very effective. If you would turn it up more you would finally have a great recovery tool!

The men’s sauna has been broken off and on the past several weeks. It’s frustrating as an important part of my membership to me. Please make it reliable. The rest of the place is great so 5 stars if the sauna worked consistently!

As someone fairly new to bouldering when I moved to Salt Lake, I was drawn to this gym because I could focus solely on bouldering. I didn't have to worry about climbers. Also this gym is so nice! Fitness classes, yoga studio, 24 hour access, a sauna, and a full locker room! The staff were always so friendly and they are serious about their safety policies. The mats were also very reassuring. I introduced multiple friends to bouldering by using my guest passes.

Stayed at the Evo Hotel because it seemed super atmospheric with the amenities it offers. It was our first time in SLC. My son is 16yo and had never tried bouldering but decided to give it a shot since it was offered with our stay which was super cool. He likes to work out. He enjoyed it so much he went back the next day. He made some new friends who were very helpful and friendly being that he’s a true beginner. The environment and staff are amazing. I’m glad I decided to stay here. My kids enjoyed it. Definitely will come back and recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a friendly environment when it comes to fitness. I’m not sure to blame arcteryx or bp but the event last night was horribly managed. We showed up at 7 when the open session was supposed to begin. Apparently we weren’t on the list despite registering a week ago. I showed them the email confirmation but no luck. The stoner employees could not compute my words. They said the free event was at capacity but I could buy a day pass to enter? HUH?!

Attempted to book a class with a friend through ClassPass, however it said the booking window was closed (often times locations will allow bookings up to 5 minutes prior to class start). So we decided to visit the location 15 minutes prior to class start to see if the location would assist with making a reservation.

The two front desk workers were anything but helpful, and brushed us off repeating that they didn’t know how the reservation system worked. They completely failed to make any sort of welcoming environment for potentially new clients, and from the get-go we didn’t even get a “hello” or options for drop-in or membership until we asked for what our options were outside of ClassPass.

My friend ended up attending the class with his reservation, but said he was the only person in the session, so it was not as if they weren’t able to accommodate another.

Didn’t feel at all welcome here which was disheartening for a first encounter.

Also, parking is horrendous.

An exciting find just a ten minute walk from Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. Visiting SLC for a few days from New England, needed a place to workout daily. This place is much more than a climbing gym, so don’t let the name fool you. My interest was quite specific, Concept2 RowErg Indoor rowing machines. They had two, both in good condition, but a full compliment of other rooms and equipment. Staff friendly, early morning and late evening hours too. I will surely come back to this gym in the future.

Worst setting of all of the SLC gyms. I’d get the quality over quantity ethos, if there was any quality. Also a terrible gym for a beginner climber. The boards, weight area, and trendy building it’s in are all nice, though.

My complaints are specifically in reference to the evening hours:
The parking situation is intolerable and unsafe. The gym itself is really cool and fun but I had to cancel my membership after getting harassed by a group of homeless men while walking to and from my car on two separate occasions.
There are very very few spots available near the entrance. You have to show up with enough time to do a few laps around the block in hopes that someone leaves so you can take their spot. Otherwise, you risk having to park down the block in a sketchy area. This part of Salt Lake sees a lot of unhoused groups of people and it’s incredibly worrisome as a woman to be walking alone in the cold, dark winter with little to no street lighting.

And to make matters worse, the surrounding area is ramping up their enforcement on parking violations because of how many people are making makeshift parking spot. My friend had her car towed for parking across the street from the building and had to pay $385 to get it back. The man who towed her car said that this is only the beginning as the neighborhoods and businesses in the surrounding area are fed up with how many people are parked in front of their properties. But what other options do we have?!
For how much we pay in membership, this is not a fair problem to put on your loyal customers.

I've been coming here for three months now. The coffee shop right out front is nice, the workout area is nice, but the bouldering is not very beginner friendly. It feels like it was built to be hard rather than fun, and the grading is inaccurate, the fact that a color can be anywhere between a set of grades kind of ruins the point of grading and feels lazy. Also did a trial membership at momentum indoor climbing and it was far more enjoyable.

This gym was sick! I wished there were some more slabs but it’s the only gym I’ve been to that rivaled contact in Saint George. I went to a bunch of other gyms up here while visiting and I really was disappointed with most. But here the routes were awesome and creative, the staff I met (Issac) was rad. And the atmosphere was awesome. Plus… and this is a really big one for me, it was CLEAN. I love climbing in a gym that I don’t feel like I’m going to catch pick up a fungus or infection from touching door handles and walking around barefoot. Pretty much every other gym here (especially momentum) had me grabbing handles with my shirt and standing on my shoes while changing.

Overall, I highly recommend this place. I’ll definitely be hitting it when I’m up here. Thanks guys for a great experience. Also, whoever set the multicolored comp route that’s up right now needs some recognition. That was probably the most fun route I’ve ever done. Just hard enough for me to have to challenge myself and work through it step by step, but still do-able in one session. Although, all the routes were awesome. I didn’t climb a single one that felt weird or like it had bad flow. Super great job!

This gym has world class routesetting. Nearly every style and technique represented across all grades. There is plenty of slab and 2 huge caves. There is a specialty training wall to introduce newer climbers to basic techniques such as traverse, toe-hook and kneebar. There were several dynos set when I was there. The quality of the routesetting is about on par with Momentum Millcreek, but less quantity of hard climbs. Momentum focuses on very hard bouldering, while this gym puts a heavy emphasis on making interesting climbs in the lower grade levels. There are not very many climbs over V8. It seems like this gym caters to after-work enthusiasts and a little to outdoor climbers, but not competing athletes. The distribution curve is heavily skewed toward V1-3.

The atmosphere cool in a dark and bougie way, but unfortunately the lighting is very bad on several walls, especially on the steepest walls which are almost entirely in shadow.

The grading system is very bad. There are 9 colors on the chart, and they go by colors of holds. Meaning all yellow holds in the gym are VB, etc, (see grade chart photo). This makes routeseting more challenging and limits the climbers exposure to certain holds.. Moreover, for my first time here it was hard to remember which colors were which grade. It's so complicated they have to hand out postcards with the color chart on it. They say this is to "make you try something you wouldn't have otherwise tried" but I see it as just wasting my energy on a climb that doesn't fit my workout plan.

The "store" is very small, and they didn't have a good selection of chalk.

The crowd at the gym was less friendly than at Momentum and the Front.

All the five star reviews on here are accurate in every other aspect. Looking forward to my next visit.

I love BP! It is fun and community focused. It is a really well run gym. The setting is fun and interesting for lower level climbers (not just jug ladders). I love their yoga classes. I always go to Candlelight yoga taught by Tate. All her classes are good though. Don’t forget the sauna.

Love this place! Everyone seems to be comparing it to other local gyms, which I understand. However BP being entirely different is not a bad thing in my eyes. Sure it’s smaller and there’s no rope climbing, but with that comes benefits that out weigh everything else. This place is significantly less busy than every other local gym. Which is a huge plus for me. Because the mats cover the entire floor, there’s no awkward waiting to pounce on a route. You feel spread out instead of crammed waiting, and less eyes on you while climbing. The atmosphere is chill and it has all the other amenities like a gym and fitness classes. I prefer the smaller feel because it feels more like a community and less pretentious. Plus, they realized their one time only Buddy pass policy was silly and did away with it. You can now use your Buddy passes on the same people every month if you want to.

Local to SLC climbed on a day pass. The routes were good, and the space was nice.

I don’t get the price verses other gyms, I’d join The Front down the road and get two gyms with rope climbing and boulders. I’ll stick to the occasional day pass for the price.

Great experience. It's pretty easy to find a climb that will stump you! Always leaves me craving more.

Enjoy the cleanliness, quality setting and frequent use of volumes to mix up the terrain. Also, good training area. Not a big fan of their somewhat nebulous color rating system. My hope is that setters will be brave and go with the V scale. If the community thinks it's too easy or too hard then it can be adjusted. That very minor gripe aside, it's a wonderful bouldering and training gym.

I've been a member since they opened. Their workout facility is very crossfit-like. Lots of barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells. There aren't a lot of machines except for a single cable machine, mostly everything in the workout area are free weights. The bouldering walls are kept quite clean and the routes are reset pretty often to keep things fresh. The personnel that work here have all been very polite and helpful for when I've had any questions. I haven't taken any of the fitness or yoga classes but the fact that you have unlimited access to a yoga studio on top of climbing is pretty stellar. Plus, the two guest passes per month are a really nice perk.

When I travel I always make a point to check out the local climbing gyms. This was hands down one of the coolest bouldering halls I’ve ever been too! The blocks were very inspired and offered a lot of variety! I loved all the slab options!
The only thing I felt it was lacking was a place one can wash their hands at after climbing instead of waiting in-line for a bathroom..

Amazing gym with an amazing staff. HOWEVER, it makes me sad that the front desk staff don't have chairs to sit on while they work the front desk?! I think the only thing that would make this gym better is if the staff were a little more comfortable and could sit down and rest their feet while they so kindly help all of the customers.

We’ll set boulders, good diversity in all grades of climbing. The grading system is a little odd but you get used to it. I got a membership👍🏻.

11/10 gym. From the setting - the staff - the atmosphere and everything in between. SLCBP has set the bar HIGH for what a perfect gym can be. You’re making a mistake if you don’t climb here when in the city.

Pros:
1. The building they are in is an interesting, new multi-use space.
2. Mats are really nice quality.
3. Fun problems!

Cons:
1. Very, very limited space and amenities compared to the other local climbing gyms. Price is too high for SLC for how much less you end up getting.
2. Strange grading system based on the color of holds means that problems all have a wide variation of grades depending on the incline and spacing, so it is difficult to track progress.
3. Parking is an issue in this area of town and becomes very limited on week nights.
4. Guest passes only apply to first-timers. This is not how any climbing gym I've ever been to does it.

It's fun as a day pass to check out once for locals, but I would recommend either of the other local gyms for membership or for visitors to SLC.

Fantastic location! I had a full day of climbing yesterday and had a blast. I really love the slab wall and overall vibe. It would be awesome to see some comp. sets sometime. And more dynos please! :). I'm not sure yet about the price yet. $75 seems a bit steep considering there aren't any ropes and only one location. I will try this gym out for a few months and compare it to Momentum and The Front. I will say that the bouldering here is more enjoyable for me than the Front in SLC and I like that it is all one level. I think one more painful part of membership is guest passes are only good for a new person each time. For me that is basically no guest pass. Glad you guys are here!

Fun climbing, cool spot, but a guest can only ever come once as a guest (not even as a guest of others) which is pretty dumb.

The facility is nice and what you would expect from a new bouldering gym and other BP gyms like in Seattle. However, I do not understand their pricing, the value is NOT there for this area. They are competing with The Front and Momentum which both have 3 gyms each in the valley and at those gyms they offer bouldering and roped climbing. Here they offer only bouldering and only one location which is fine however it costs more than Momentum and not much less than The Front despite getting significantly less value than either. Not only that, it is inconsistent with other BP gyms like in Seattle. This gym offers no student discount per month which the Seattle gyms do and they will not let you continue your membership from the Seattle gym you must switch to this pay scale. This doesn't make much sense as in Seattle they have 2 gyms , so here you get less for more money. I was told by the manager it's a different market but you would assume Seattle is more expensive to lease area for the two gyms than it is here in SLC for one gym so I don't understand this comment.

I would compare the size of this gym to the amount of bouldering at the South Main Front (which also includes a large roped section) or the bouldering only Momentum gym in Lehi (one of the three gyms you have access to for less per month than here). That's to say, it's not significantly larger than the competition to make up for the price. Again, the facility is as expected, nothing to complain about. However, it is way to expensive compared to the established climbing gyms here and I don't see much of an incentive to switch. After their 15$ for the first month limited offer is over I expect most people will go back to the other gyms. For me, it's slightly closer to my place than the other gyms but that's not saying much since it's literally a 5 minute drive from the downtown Front. That's really the only benefit in my opinion.

In summary, the pricing needs to match what they are offering compared to the other gyms here and the other BPs in Seattle. I have been a member at Momentum and currently am at the Front and have been to the BPs in Seattle so I feel like this is a fair assessment.

This place has extremely fun problems, with a variety of set styles for indoor bouldering. There's (true) slab to overhung and caves. The grading levels here seem more on point than other gyms and there's a lot more variety for folks trying to level up gradually in different styles. Personally, I think the sets are more fun than both The Front and Momentum. The facilities are new and very nice/better in comparison (looking at the sauna, the pads, and the gym equipment). I definitely feel safer landing on the huge bouncey pads here and trust better that I won't sprain my ankle unlike other places (ahem, The Front). So far parking hasn't been an issue either.

The only issue is that if you're a rope climber there's none of that here, but as solely a boulder this gym IMHO is the best in town.
