It mixes functional exercise and dietary changes in order to build strength and/or lose weight. The workout can be modified for anyone, depending on your fitness level and goals.

One of the first things you may notice when you walk into our gym is the social environment. People often talk before and after class, offer encouragement during workouts, stay after to stretch together and participate in social events outside of class!

I am just going to leave my experience here for anyone looking for a gym and considering this one and let you make your mind up with full transparency about the environment.

This gym uses SugarWOD to track workouts. Most of the time the owner will post workouts in advance, and typically for the entire week.

On Monday night 07/29/24 I checked the workout for the next day and it was:
18 minute time cap
800 meter run
40 wall balls
600 meter run
30 wall balls
400 meter run
20 wall balls
200 meter run
10 wall balls

The next morning I go into the gym and the workout has changed to:
No time cap go until you have to leave or until you start crying (not exactly the wording, but basically what it said and until you start crying is almost verbatim)
800 meter run
80 wall balls
80 calorie row
60 …
40 …
20 …
(If you break on wall balls do 10 burpees)

Just before the class started I mentioned to the coach how, obviously, the workout changed, and how the new workout was rough, and how I probably won’t make it through the first round with 10 burpees every time I break on wall balls.
The coach said something to the effect of, yeah it is rough someone in the last class skipped the burpees and still only just made it through the first round, and I believe I said something like “I think I might do that as well”, and the coach shrugged, I think, at the prospect of me doing it. But, either way, I had a conversation with the coach about it before the class started.

So, just as everyone else, I struggled through the workout which was plenty difficult without doing burpees. On the way out I even mentioned to another member how I couldn’t believe how far he’d gotten considering he did the burpees and Rx’d the weight for the wall ball, and he was like, “yeah my body is pretty wrecked after that.”

Then on Wednesday morning I finished the workout and went to record my time and weights, but couldn’t get into the app. I figured that it had updated and kicked me out of the gym, I believe that has happened before and I had to add the gym back with the gym code. Then I asked one of the owners, who was coaching that day, what the pin to the gym was so that I could add it back, because the app updated and kicked me out again.

She said, “I don’t know you’ll have to text [her husband] and ask.”

So, I texted him this:
“SugarWOD updated and kicked me out. What’s the code again? 😬”

And his response was:
“It didn't update

You skipped part of the WOD yesterday, burpees, so i figured you didn't really "need" SugarWOD

Since you're making up your own workouts now”

I have made the decision to not go back to this gym based on this interaction, and the subsequent texts that followed.

I have been friends and friendly with the owners since they acquired the gym 2 summers ago. I have watched them have this same attitude toward other members that have since left or been essentially pushed out.

Edit:
It looks like there was a reply before that I didn’t catch, but someone else did.
So, here is the entire exchange as well as their deleted response.
Seriously, go to this gym. Feel the positivity that they talk about. Where the members of the gym are held to a different standard than the owners.

I dropped in for the week while I was in town for work. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and the owners were really great. I felt very comfortable on day one. The atmosphere and mood were light and fun. I will definitely drop back in next time I’m in town.

Dropped in for a workout while my wife and I were in town and brought my sister-in-law who had never tried CrossFit before. Shelle was an excellent coach, very friendly and knowledgeable, proactive in making sure everyone had appropriate movements and loading. The programming and class design were stellar. Community was welcoming and engaging. We had a great time and would highly recommend CFG!

They are so friendly and social! I’ve been to about 10 CrossFit gyms and this one made me feel like apart of the family for the week I was there. Thank you to the owners and the members!

Super helpful staff and friendly people! Location is a bit hard to find due to construction so allow a little extra time to arrive or scout out before your class. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

I've been working out here for almost 6 months now. This is the only gym that I've joined that I have stuck with for more than a week. The owners, Keith and shelle, are amazing! They create fun and challenging workouts and they truly care about the life and health of all of their members!

This gym was great till the new owners came along and ruined the “family” aspect of a CrossFit gym. A formal coach left and she has continued to harass and bully her by Keith and Shelle. She has the receipts to prove it. I left shortly after she did after i saw everything he said to her. I would never want to fund a gym that isn’t a safe zone. If you don’t believe me look up their previous Oregon gym reviews CrossFit Happy Valley and you’ll know what I’m saying is true. I’m sure I’ll try and get bullied and harassed into taking this down or have them deny any of this but I won’t. Honest true review.

We love Crossift Gritty! Started out with zero experience really lifting weights, but that didn't matter. The coaches/owners are amazing and so patient. Always giving options and pushing you to be your best. The workouts are fun and well programmed. 6 months in and I've never felt stronger! Not to mention all the friends we've met along the way. Great gym full of great people!!

I have always wanted to try CrossFit but was afraid that I would not be able to do it. The sheer terror I felt on my first day was quickly forgotten as the coaches worked one on one with me to help me understand how to use my body. If you are new to it then they have several solo lessons with you to teach you the basics before you join the classes. I thought I was just signing up for a fitness class but I have gained friends and so much confidence. Plus, I feel like an absolute baddie when I’m done with class. Joining CrossFit Gritty was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I am very happy to be part of the “CrossFit Gritty”family (I say family because you feel in that pleasant environment that gives you security and happiness, of course 😍) the trainers are very friendly and are always willing to give the best training.
I understand a little bit of English and I felt limited 😰to training because I didn't know the language. but guess what, the coaches and teammates are so kind. I recommend 💯 %🫶🏋🏻‍♂️ CrossFit Gritty ❤️‍🔥

Great coaches and community! Fun, easy going, motivating… I’m excited to keep it up. I’m petite and not that strong, but you can lift heavy or light weights, depending on your strength. I’m looking to get toned up for summer- this is perfect!

First and most accessible 24/7 access to the gym! Good working space. Class sizes are appropriate for the gym and equipment. Definitely a must if you don’t want to be crammed in a small box or shoulder to shoulder with everyone in a huge class where you’re lost in the mix.

/edit No longer a 24 hour gym. But visit with confidence. Keith is the new owner and he’s a stud of a trainer.

Joined CrossFit Gritty the week after Thanksgiving 2022 to help me lose weight and bring some fitness back into my life. The coaching and gym community have been way more supportive than I ever anticipated. I've never been to a gym except here where literally everyone wants me to succeed and it's rare for me to leave without someone asking if I'm coming tomorrow. Talk about accountability! I've learned a ton about weight lifting and my personal weight loss progress has been off the charts - in 3 months, I'm down 15 lbs and getting stronger than I imagined possible. I literally look forward to working out everyday and have to force myself to take a rest day. This gym and the people here are pretty special.

After 9 years at the same box it was time for a change. After a few drop ins at other boxes Crossfit Gritty was the fit for me. Awesome coaches and workouts. The community is second to none as everyone welcomed me as a new member. If you are ever in town and need to do a drop in or need a good place to get your sweat on this is the place. Highly recommend!!!’

UPDATE: I've been coming here for 7 years and the place is under new ownership as of late 2022. It was the best change this place could have had. Not only are the Owners/Coaches still supportive and encouraging, they program to their members strengths and opportunities to keep making them better. Without this place, I wouldn't have gotten myself into the best shape (mentally and physically) of my life, twice. Pre baby and Postpartum. The classes are reasonably sized in ratio coach:member and the times available to go can work for any lifestyle and schedule. You won't regret starting (and staying) here!

Great and supportive coaches. Love the workouts in class! Everyone is encouraging to finish at your best!

After a long stint in the CrossFit world I decided that it just wasn’t for me anymore. That was true for years. Recently, I decided to meet up with an old friend for a workout at CrossFit Gritty. The moment I walked into their gym I felt that awesome energy that attracted me to CF in the first place. Keith and Shelly do an amazing job making CrossFit Gritty a place for athletes of all skill levels to grow and thrive. Do yourself a favor and give it a try! You won’t regret it!

If you want a fit, healthy life, this is the place to be! I did physical therapy for almost a year after a really bad car accident. It didn't help me a ton. However, my work at CrossFit gritty has brought me back to feeling normal, even stronger than ever!
