My son enjoyed the class at first. The instructors are great. However, his interests changed, he stopped attending and we were stuck continuing to pay on our 12 month agreement. If you are unsure your child will stay with their program, I’d recommend trying to work with them before signing any agreements.

Be VERY careful signing up with them. You are stuck with them for the full 12 month financially. Not even death will free you from their VERY unilateral agreement favouring them. Our family faced some challenges and had to move out of state and they wouldn’t stop payments ! The weirdest part is they asked for proof of relocation, my new address, just for them to turn around and said “the nature of their business does not allow them to refund/cancel agreement”. Giving away my personal information for I don’t know what at the end … kinda disappointed discovering all this at the end rather than upfront …

We enrolled our kids in the Black Belt Club with the hope that they would learn discipline, gain confidence, and eventually earn their black belts. The initial understanding was that attending classes twice a week would be enough to meet the requirements and achieve a black belt, which sounded like a reasonable commitment.

However, about 18 months into the program, we were surprised to learn that our children would now need to train up to five days a week in order to continue progressing. Additionally, there would be an extra cost of $1,000 for this increased training. What was even more concerning is that these additional requirements and fees weren’t shared with us upfront and only became clear after our children reached the green belt level. This shift in expectations felt a bit unsettling, as it wasn't what we had initially signed up for.

That said, our kids did enjoy the classes, and we appreciated the positive, friendly atmosphere created by the instructors. Most of the staff were supportive and engaged, and the classes were fun, which kept our children excited about attending. However, while the experience was enjoyable, we were hoping for a stronger focus on discipline and structured progression. In our view, the belt system felt more like a series of participation awards, with each new belt coming with an additional cost, which made us question whether the program was aligning with our original goals.

If you're looking for a casual, fun experience for your child in a welcoming environment, the Black Belt Club could be a good option. But if you're seeking a program that emphasizes discipline and clear, skill-based progression, it might be worth considering other martial arts schools that align more closely with those values. We’ve had a mixed experience, and while our kids had fun, we didn’t feel that the program fully met our expectations.

Therapist here who enrolled my 6yo son after the divorce to help him cope and regain self-confidence. I will put him in talk therapy in the future, but at this age this seems to be much more efficacious in helping him be empowered. He is doing notably better at focus and self-confidence after 2 months. Well worth the investment. The instructors are professional, personable, and make it age appropriately fun! And you can tell his self esteem takes huge leaps whenever he wears that karate uniform and sees the boards he's broken displayed on his bedroom wall!!!

i’m 17 and I’ve been a student here for about two years and a half, this place has such a good atmosphere and if you put in effort you can really enjoy and become better. to save you from an essay, long story short i was forced to do karate because i had to do an activity and my brother was already in karate. after some time, i actually enjoyed and looked forward to karate, i found some confidence i didn’t know i had. and i’ve made some really good friends my age too. and the instructors want you to become better and are really encouraging. love this place

If you've always wanted to try Karate but think you're too old, this place is for you. The instructors and program directors are fantastic at guiding and motivating you to do your best. They break things down clearly and are incredibly patient, kind, and inspiring. The positive energy in the Teen/Adult classes makes it a great environment to get your endorphins going, to get into shape, and learn a new skill at the same time. I know that when I come to class, I'll be part of a supportive team where we all learn and grow together. We help and encourage each other to never give up and to keep going. Horrible people! Bobby Lawrence karate discriminates against girls who develop eating disorders. Shame on you for punishing our daughter. Dallas lied to my wife and still charged us despite our daughter being in an inpatient facility for 10 weeks and not being able to participate for 3 months. I can’t say enough bad about these people. They do a good job trying to get you to sign up and pay more and more money, it is definitely expensive and much of the teaching comes from other students, adolescents. The actual teachers are great, but when you throw them in a room filled with 20 kids, the lessons are lost.
For some reason, the AF location uses cologne as air freshener and it can be difficult to breathe, especially if you're sensitive or allergic to strong synthetic fragrance. There is also very loud music, so for children or adults who have sensory sensitivities, this is not the place. But if you don't mind intense cologne and lots of hype, then it's alright. Two stars because of the cost, extra costs, and smell. But again, great teachers.

Almost two years ago our oldest daughter came running out to me after school with a Bobby Lawrence flyer begging us to let her & her little sister go to a trial class after Mr. Dallas visited their school. She couldn't stop talking about how funny & nice Mr. Dallas was and how he made karate look so fun. Our oldest is now a brown/yellow belt, in the Xtreme training program and recently made the Demo team. Both girls adore all the instructors ( two of the female instructors in particular - girl power 💪🏼😉). They all are super encouraging and wonderful mentors. The kids are treated more than just students - they know all their names , talking to them about their interests, trips they've taken, how school is going etc. Our oldest has even contacted one of the instructors she looks up to outside of the studio with problems she's had with friends & bullies and knows she can come to her about anything she's having troubles with. They want to see your kids grow and succeed in and outside of the studio. We've had family come in from out of town and have watched the girls' classes and they have all commented on what a great program it is and how awesome the instructors are with the kids. One grandparent asks the girls every month what the " lesson of the month" is in class and they chat about it. They teach more than karate here, they teach the kids to be great human beings who believe in themselves and to strive to do great things. They have extra activities/kids nights out where kids get to connect, play, and party with other classmates. However, each of these extra nights all come with a price. BEST kickboxing class anywhere ... ever. BEST KB instructor anywhere ... ever. Bob AH-MAY-ZING. He is especially good at breaking down the moves and combos in order to teach the technical aspect, which is very important if you want to do it right. Correct form and body mechanics are critical to kick and punch harder with less effort while still knocking your opponent out ... or knocking over the bag. Whichever you prefer.

I’ve been in this KB class for 12 years. I’m the oldest student in the class (57 at last count). But Bob is my mentor, friend, and example. I’ll still be moving, kicking, punching and knocking bags over like he does when I’m his age (not divulging that). It’s that important.

As a license massage therapist, knowing the body like I do, moving your body regularly is critical to all aspects of your health and body, especially as you get older. Something I teach my clients everyday. This totally fits the bill.

The support, encouragement and care our group has for one another is a big reason why I’ve stayed with this class/studio for as long as I have. And we have FUN. Time goes by so fast, we don’t even realize we’ve been working out.

I do kickboxing at the Bobby Lawrence karate studio in American Fork and I love it. The instructor Bob is the best and he teaches so many great self defense and martial arts skills and he gives us a killer workout every time. I can’t say enough good things about how much I love the kickboxing class there.

Hands down the best decision I have made as a parent was to sign my son up with Bobby Lawrence Karate! He has learned so much about focus, dedication, self defense and has gained so much confidence. My daughter trained at Bobby Lawrence American Fork for 10 years and earned her 2nd degree black belt with Dallas Lawrence and his amazing team of teachers and staff! She had a very positive experience participating in the weekly classes, SWAT and STORM team and biannual tournaments. She felt part of the karate community and the studio became a second home of good friends!
Myself and 3 daughters are now are participating in Bob’s morning kickboxing class, and it’s an awesome class! He is a skilled teacher who keeps it fun with technique and also a high intensity workout. It’s a comfortable atmosphere for amateurs and black belts alike! We love training at Bobby Lawrence Karate!

My son was struggling with ADD, lack of focus and self confidence. I enrolled him in karate at Bobby Lawrence Karate and his life changed. Within months his self confidence grew, his focus and attention span improved and he was overall demeanor was happier. The instructors at BLK are knowledgeable, attentive and get to know your child. If your kid isn't enrolled at Bobby Lawrence Karate in American Fork, you need to get on board. The karate training program is fantastic. It is designed to not only teach the basics of karate, but teaches the student about the more important things in life and of karate. The arts and benefits of discipline, healthy living, self control, focus, confidence, respect and more. It is nice to know my children will be taught to not only defend themselves against attackers and bullies, but also that they learn these things while being reinforced with the understanding that their parents have their best interests in mind and that they should respect their parents and themselves. My daughter has only been enrolled for a year and it is worth every penny and more. She has found something she is truly excited to participate in every time; never a word of complaint. She feels empowered and respected while learning to respect others as well. I'm not a huge fan of their long term billing plans which has stunted my daughter's participation, but only slightly. The cost is reasonable and I'd easily pay more (without a long term commitment) for her participation. The value is certainly there without a doubt and it may be the best thing we've done for our daughter so far. Dallas and his team are wonderful. Much mahalos!

Love this place! My son started karate over 12 years ago and he tricked me into taking a demo kickboxing class. I've been doing kickboxing ever since!! The karate studio is amazing and focused on helping each student progress at his/her own pace, while at the same time, expecting excellence.

My wife and I enrolled our daughters in the program over a year ago. Both our daughters were dealing with ADHD and after enrollment we have seen significant increases in their confidence and focus.

We have recently enrolled our son and have seen the same benefits almost immediately.

I also teach high school and there are a number of Bobby Lawrence students in my classes. These kids stand out in how respectful and hardworking they are. Watching these black belts with their teachers and peers makes me even more convinced that I am going to keep my kids enrolled and thriving in this program.

This place is a money mill. Management cares about making money and little more. We had our son enrolled and he was using the lessons on other kids in school. The instructors and I all were in agreement that if the fighting continued then we would stop the lessons. After enough time, we decided to pull him, but management wouldn't agree to let us out of the contract, thereby forcing us to pay for lessons we all decided would be wise to discontinue. To their credit, most of the instructors are great and really get along well with the kids; the issue is management tying their hands on these kinds of matters.

I am thrilled with my daughter’s Bobby Lawrence Karate experience. Everyone at the studio is extremely friendly and helpful. I am especially impressed by her instructors. Besides being knowledgeable and experienced, they are patient, kind and offer positive encouragement with every interaction. My daughter is very shy by nature, but karate is helping her build self-confidence with each lesson. She is also learning self-discipline and respect for others. Starting karate was one of the best things we have ever done for our son. In the short four months he has been going to BLKarate his focus, concentration, and self confidence have improved so much! I've been checking places for karate classes for my son, he just turned 4 and usually for these classes they want you to start at 5. I called this place after calling a couple other ones and they told me they can have the teacher (Dallas) do a one on one assessment to see if he can join the 5-6year old kids' class. We went there and they didn't waste anytime. We went inside a private room to meet with Dallas, let me tell you this - he is freaking amazing! There are those who try overly hard to level with the kids that looks awkward in a way but Dallas was a natural. I am very keen into evaluating people, as a mom who has an only son I tend to be overly protective and cautious of the people my son interact with. I want a place where my son can expand his horizons, not just something for him to do during summer. I want my son to learn and enjoy karate at the same time. Dallas made my son comfortable and he is a natural, like this dude knows his stuff.

Dallas explained to me how his other students are in the process of transitioning to be a teacher. It is extremely impressive to see these young kids who are very disciplined and at the same time love what they are doing.

After the assessment we decided to sign up for the summer program $79 for 4 weeks, twice a week for 30 minutes. This includes the uniform.

My son's first day, again he just turned 4 so you can just imagine how he will be ran over by other kids in his class. My husband and I were there watching, it is my son's first so the rest of the class already mastered their stuff. We were not worried at all because this place have two teacher assistants who were extremely helpful and very considerate about my son. My son joined the rest of the class, around 12 other kids. The teacher assistants were all checking on my son, helping him and teaching him as if he was doing a one on one class.

Staff and Service - extremely positive ambiance. They do not ask you to sign any contract, they do not force you to sign up. As a matter of fact, our first day they gave us the uniform and didn't ask us to pay anything. They just basically said to come back if we think our son likes it. We were like, wow-they spent an hour of assessment, gave us free uniform and they aren't pushing us to register. Dallas immediately won us by showing us that he is after what our son wants and not just wanting another kid singing up on his class.

I will definitely recommend this place. Meet with Dallas, he is extremely good with kids. The rest of the teachers in training are following Dallas' footsteps, extremely nice and most importantly they are caring. They care and for me it matters especially my son is really a shy type. They welcomed him and now my son looks forward to his next class.

My son is now part of their regular program, $99monthly. We are excited!
