I recently renewed my yearly membership and in spite of some frustrations with Select Health, I had a very awesome experience with the staff at both Millcreek and Union Park!
You have an exceptional culture and team!

This was our first time to climb at Momentum and the facility was top notch! The bouldering and climbing was a ton of fun and the entire place was very clean and well kept. We are now purchasing a 10 punch to get us through the winter. Great place!

Met the route setters today. Congratulated them on their creativity. Grades are pre-planned but they dream up the rest on the wall and test the moves. Nice job!

Thanks chaia, Diego, Tyler, and autumn for making all of my dream come true. When I walked in here today, I had never been climbing before. My son made me watch that movie with that free climbing fella Adam Handhold which was very impressive.i tried to reenact it but they staff told me I wasn’t allowed to climb without a shirt on. Taco Bell within walking distance. Overall great experience.

I brought my son here to do some rock climbing. I have helped belay many times in the past but they were able to help me really understand great techniques. Gave me the confidence that I know what is truly needed to have a successful adventure. Thank Ryan for your amazing help! I will be coming back.

I really like the climbing here, but there are two really big issues I have that make it really hard to use this as a home gym for me. The first is that the main slab boulder, and now the 10 degree wall are just comp boulders. All the time. As a mid-beginner level climber this eliminates a lot of bouldering area for me, not to mention I really love the characteristics of those two areas, but oh well. Second, is that the music is just straight awful, which in and of itself is manageable, with headphones, except that it's so freaking loud that I can hear it over my headphones when they are at 75% volume. I've been hoping for the past couple months that they'd at least sort out the walls not always being comp stuff, but I now just have to drive an extra 10 minutes to Sandy to have an enjoyable climbing session. Sandy's bouldering is a bit on the small side, but has a nice vibe, and at least 100% availability of their boulder area for the average climber.

My elementary-age daughter did a summer camp at Momentum in Millcreek, but their classes were full for the 12 week session after that. So we enrolled her in Ft. Union and have been impressed so far. The coaches are really nice and friendly, and they found her good fitting equipment. My younger child is in the little kids' class and had a great time the first day. My only single complaint is that it took nearly 15 minutes to get all the little ones fitted for harnesses and shoes, and then the coach seemed to just be chatting with coworkers for awhile after that, leaving not a ton of time to actual climb in a one-hour class. I'm guessing that will be more streamlined in the future though because they'll have taken note of sizes and stuff. That truly is the only thing that I could even remotely complain about.

This gym is clean, spacious and all in all a good experience. However, the bouldering route setting could definitely be better. I feel like I’m climbing the same route over and over again. Not much variety compared to the other gyms. Lots of dynos and positive grips, not very fun for a short average climber. Would love more types of holds, haven’t seen pinches in ages, very few crimps below v4. Also not very many places to safely down climb if a climb feels sketchy.

They turn off the lighted wall at 10:15 pm (45 mins till close) every night to encourage people to not stay late, but a good few of your business professional customers can’t get started till 10 and aren’t trying to stay past 11:00.
It makes us feel less welcome and like we’re children or something that can’t follow hours. If I had to guess, this policy came without any customer research and it feels a bit insulting.
I also understand that your employees want to go home, but customers also don’t appreciate multiple policies that rush us out.
So please leave the nice lighted wall on as it was the main reason we chose to come here!
Thank you!

I have to formally say that momentum not having cracks is a HUGE bummer. We live in Utah where the best crack climbing in the world is, the people here want to train for the climbing that is here. We don’t live in Kentucky and only sport climb at the red. This gym also gets really really warm and we’re not even into summer yet. I feel like I’m chalking constantly and that still isn’t enough. The pros are the setting has been phenomenal recently! The Boulder area is fun but the light up holds are stupid, very hard to read, and are unattractive. Momentum quit while you’re ahead and just get rid of all the light up holds, no one likes them. I have my complaints but obviously this is a world class gym and is an excellent training facility. Just from the hype and my experience at the other momentum’s I was hoping this would be a bit better than it is. I really hope they fix the ventilation problem because it will be unbearable to climb there in the summer otherwise.

Awesome gym. Erie is great. The stars are kind of selfish for me. I am a new climber and would love to hit the higher walls. You have to bring someone to belay with though as they don’t have auto- belayers. I don’t have any other climbers in my friend group so I am stuck mostly on the bouldering walls. Which are great and they change them constantly so there is enough change to have fun. I wish I could have a wall of auto-belayers to just run up and down though. Currently looking for a new gym that might have them.

Love the climbing walls, but would like to see quicker turnover of routes. Still quite a few around from.opening day....employ more setters! Now the setters are being spread even thinner with Trolley Square development too. And our rates go up.
Re the actual routes, would like to see the consensus "grading cards" being implemented at Fort Union, as at Millcreek and Sandy. The official grade numbers are way off at times.

Honestly this gym is doing a good amount right - and that’s saying a lot considering the others in the area. Mostly solid setting, good fitness area, good cardio room, it’s bright and open in the gym, boards work and are great - but more important than anything, they are actually implementing suggestions instead of ignoring them. Great work MoFo team!

My only real complaint is that the routes are not changed very often. (An issue they're well aware of as I've seen signs about it) You'll get a new 10 to 20 feet of wall at a time. I've watched them while they set climbs and if I was the one paying for it or managing them I would be livid. It was like watching stoners decide where to eat. The time between them getting there and them starting to set I climbed and worked out, (1:30-2 hours). I'm sure making/finding routes isn't as easy as I think but...
It ultimately isn't a big deal however as sandy and Millcreek are close enough that you can switch gyms for a couple weeks at a time.
Also the taping/bandaid station at Millcreek should be a momentum standard.
Everything else is great, very friendly staff, the quality of the climbs is top notch, the facilities are clean, the weights area isn't huge but is well equipped, it never feels too busy even if there's a lot of people, and the music is usually pretty bumpin.

The new Ft Union gym is amazing and state of the art. Route setting is very good as is the case with all momentum gyms.
One suggestion on the bouldering area: instead of having all LED boulders on one wall, fill in the other walls with LED boulders as an option. I still prefer solid color boulders and it would be nice to have those on the only LED wall.

I really like the new Momentum! The routes are a bit stout/sand bagged, but overall fun. The location is what sells me most, as there is a lot around there that I can hit up after a climbing sesh.
The suggestions for improvement include adding efficient air conditioning or big fans to the ceiling, normal route rating tags that are bigger and can have climbers provide consensus grades, and auto belays for adults and not just kids.
Other than that, the staff is always friendly and welcoming, the setting is updated regularly and of course, everything is new. The workout portion of the gym much more robust than the other Mo's gyms. I don't know if they offer classes yet, but that would be cool...

The smallest Momentum I've been to. There are NO auto-belays here except for the speed climbing (I think that's what they are?). We come early on weekdays to top-rope and it's a 5-star gym for me in no small part due to the fact that it's less than 10 minutes away from my house.
For the proximity to our house, a good-enough selection, and the always friendly staff it gets 5 stars.
Also, if you come here in the afternoon/evening, the Pie pizzeria is about 400 feet away in the same parking lot and has $2 pints of PBR for afterwards 👀

Bouldering is really disappointing. I regularly do V7 first try at other Momentums and rarely fall on V5 or lower. At Ft Union I struggle on V4 and movement is awkward and weird on many.
The harder grades wouldn't be a huge deal if they would set more problems in the lower grades to compensate, but it seems like their goal is to cater to the V10/competition crowd.
I do like the helpful staff and the roped climbing, no complaints there.

I've been climbing at the Sandy momentum for close to a decade and can say this Fort Union location has nailed all the things the Sandy location could improve on. Ft. Union has amazing locker rooms and hand-washing stations. The kids area is fun and not in the way of the adults who are climbing. The walls are higher and grittier, there's tons of variety, a good amount of lead/top-rope combo climbs, amazing weight and cardio rooms, great bouldering options and the list goes on. The only thing it lacks is a good crack climbing area for trad learners. I think every gym should have a section of crack climbs with auto-belays.

I love it. There are a wide variety of climbs and boulders, and the kids area is nice. It's time for "rave-night" with all the light-up holds. There are multiple tilt-boards, for those so inclined. The place is gigantic.
Grumpy old man rant: I do wish you would do something to reign in the parents of the misbehaving kids. The last time I was there, an enterprising group of unsupervised kids had figured out they could jump off the kids bouldering wall while tied into the auto-belay across the room.

We’ve been climbing at Sandy and Millcreek since each of those gyms opened. Wow! and to add Fort Union to the mix is so fun and appreciated. Love the variety of routes. Interesting holds and route setting. We are lucky. I’m surprised to hear people whining about frivolous things.

They need some basic pull up bars and things to do for parents in the kids area. Would make the experience better for the adults just standing around watching their kids

I feel so spoiled having a climbing gym so close to my house! It’s been such a treat watching the gym come to life and seeing new routes get set. The staff has been really great, and Taylor was so amazing helping signing both myself and partner up for a membership. Unpopular opinion but I like the tag system and that sometimes it’s difficult to read the tag. I think sometimes as climbers we keep ourselves in a certain grade and don’t just climb something because it looks fun or challenging.

This gym is beautiful. When you walk in the staff welcomes you and is super helpful with any of your questions. Their weight lifting section is decked out with multiple power racks and various machines. They have a pretty good selection of dumbbells for any type of exercise as well as resistance bands for warm ups and stretches etc.
All around the gym there are cubbies to put your stuff in which is nice and handy. There's a nice selection of lead and top rope routes as well as a small Auto belay wall and speed climbing wal. There's also a kids area with the shorter routes to take your kids and also some beginning routes for anyone who's new to climbing.
The bouldering area is pretty diverse with anything from slab to intense overhang. If you're coming to this gym, I definitely recommend carving out a couple hours just to get the full experience. Rock on!!

The bouldering might be nice, but the roped climbing sucks compared to millcreek and sandy. First off the walls are poorly designed, with everything about the same steepness. There's no slab and no steep overhange and no roofs. As others have said the route tags are a joke, invisible from more than a foot away. The route setting so far also sucks. It feels like the route setters are all boulderers. The grades are all over the map and we need consensus grading tags like the other gyms. and rather than being consistent start off easier than the grade and are 2 grades harder at the top . If i want to climb 11a, then i want the moves to all be all around 11a, not starting with 10a and ending at 11c.
Overall, the new gym might be nice and shiny, but for roped climbing stick to millcreek or sandy.

The staff was amazing. They gave me and each of my children, the time and attention to teach us what to do. Perfect for beginners or advanced climbers!!

Very happy to have a new momentum in the valley. Lots of great details from the cubbies, lighting, colors, cardio room, etc. Some things that I wish were different:
- The lack of a dedicated hangboard/warm up area. It feels a bit awkward and counter intuitive to have hangboards in the weight room. All other momentum’s in the valley have their own hangboard space that is isolated from weights.
- So much slab/vert in the bouldering area. With how much slab there is, I feel like there would have been plenty of space to variate with a spray wall or other forms of steep climbing. The cave at fort union pales in comparison to millcreek and lehi.
All in all, it’s definitely one of the best momentum’s and I’m psyched to have it close to home!

Been twice since open and both experiences were great. Would live to see some more auto belay options but I know that really isn’t Momentum’s style.

Great new gym with a lot of space and equipment, but the management are far from the standards that Jeff Petterson started when he began the Quarry and he and his investors have kept at the other Momentums... which is especially surprising since Eric came from the Sandy gym and has experience there...
Yoga class scheduled for 6:45 am, with a required 10-minute early arrival and sign-up didn't start until 6:50 because no one was there to open the gym. Eric (one of the co-managers) was called at 6:20 by the yoga instructor (I think) and again at 6:35 by an employee of the Mill Creek location. When he finally arrived there was no apology for the delay or any explanation given... So, I checked in after the class about what happened as 4-5 people who had waited for the class to had left before he arrived.
Eric was apparently not in the mood to talk with long-time members (since 2010) when I asked what happened (his tone and demeanor were nonchalant and that of annoyance) as he said the shift lead turned off their phone and offered nothing else before returning to chat with who looked like an employee or friend.

New gym is so nice! I like the spaciousness, the great lighting, and the ambiance. Bouldering isn’t as intimidating as the other two Momentums because you’re not as much on display. I love that you’re able to lead many more of the top rope routes. The grades aren’t super consistent yet but that makes it more fun. I like the variety in the route setting. I like that there isn’t giant fans blowing chalk into your eyes. The workout areas are really nice. Locker rooms are nice as well. Staff are green but breaking in and very nice overall. The overall feeling is chill.
Minor nitpicks: everything is still so new, both the walls and holds are like sandpaper - watch out for bloody scrapes if your skin is exposed. Would love an overhanging arch for routes like those found at Mill Creek. Would love a spot to practice clipping and anchoring and stuff on the ground. No crack routes!

Really nice facility! Super clean as they just opened. As others have mentioned, the tags are comically small. I have started bringing my spyglass so I can see the grades from off the mats.

Awesome gym, it's fantastic
Great facilities, fun climbing, excellent route setters
Minor nitpicks
-no sauna?
-difficult to see the bouldering grades
-I didn't top rope, but it looked like they had ATC's wouldn't gri gri's be better for a new gym? Other gyms I've been to have a gri gri attached to every rope, which is nice

Lots of progress when compared to the Sandy and Millcreek locations. Very spacious with abundant bouldering, good offerings for top rope and lead though it's pretty clear bouldering was the main focus here. The elements that really distinguish this location from the other two are lots of creative seating in the bouldering area, and especially the kids nook (this is not an official moniker, just what I'm calling it). For those of us with the dream of passing on our love of climbing to our small children, there is a small area in the back of the gym with short walls offering auto belay and a beginner bouldering wall. It's contained enough to easily keep the little ones corralled and out of the way of adult climbers. To echo some feedback I've seen from other reviewers, more seating options for chilling or working would be incredible. Also, incremental day pass fees for younger kids, like $8 for 5 and under... Paying $19 post-guest pass for a three year old who will climb for maybe 20 minutes is highway robbery.

Awesome grand opening! The gym is so big and there’s a good variety of bouldering holds and terrain. There’s 5 squat racks, a leg press, 2 cable machines and a lat pulldown/row machine, a big improvement from Momentum Millcreek. The lifting area is separate from the cardio area which is nice.
I’m stoked to climb and lift here more often.
A few complaints that could be fixed to be 5 stars.
1 - Why are the tags on the boulders so small? They are nearly impossible to read and create a semi dangerous environment because you have to walk up to the wall in order to see the grade.
2 - There is no dedicated space to stretch and warmup
3 - Why are the hangboards in the lifting area? Millcreek had to enclose the lifting area in glass because of how nasty the area got with chalk. There shouldn’t be chalk in that lifting space. It’s nice that the cardio room is enclosed to avoid that issue, shouldn’t the lifting area be the same?
4 - Not really any tables/space to sit with a computer and do some work in between climbs.
5 - Still no sauna?
