Iโve come here for over a year and I have never seen the gym area be cleaned, let alone any evidence it has ever been cleaned. Thick layer of chalk, dust, etc on every piece of equipment at all times. They have a sign saying it gets cleaned every hour - maybe they mean every few years? The climbing area is fine though

Routes and problems quality is good. Staff mostly leaves us alone, good. Prices, especially for a one time visitor, are high. Membership dues are now also getting very high.

Completely upset. Iโm a well experienced rock climber and completely enjoy it. In my decade of rock climbing I have never been so disappointed in a facility. I took a friend who also has experience, and whom I would trust my whole life with. He went to take the belay test and he was failed before he could even touch the rope. The lady asked if he has taken a class, and he said no, but explained how he is completely qualified to belay. She said that he had to take a class or she will fail him. When I asked another employee why she did that to him, the employee blew up. He immediately shut me down, raised his voice, and said that my friend canโt take the test. Completely ridiculous, in fact, it ruined my whole day.

Awesome spot, good climbs, both top rope, lead and bouldering. Lost a star for no auto belay, and staff felt a little diminishing. I wish that they had more then one movement based boulder, and more comp boulders on the taller boulder wall. The boulders they do have are very fun and technical, and are very versatile. Overall pretty good spot , just wish for a better selection.

I love momentum and I've been climbing between the locations for several months. However, the Sandy location needs to get it together with the youth programs. I was there on a Friday from aprx 3pm to 5pm, and there were two groups of youth program kids running completely wild in the bouldering area. I saw several kids almost fall on other kids, and others were sitting in groups under climbers. The coaches just watched them without correcting it. This is insanely unsafe for both the youth program and other people climbing at the gym. Youth programs either need to be watched more closely or kept in the kids climbing area.

Been complaining for months about the lack of consistent setting at this location. Sport routes are 7-9 months old. Even the "new" routes are now 4-6 weeks old and due for a reset. Industry standard is 8-12 weeks MAX (I was a route setter in a previous life).
You have increased your fees twice, and in that time frame some of the routes have not changed, which is really out of touch.
Very close to cancelling my membership if this does not improve.

I had an amazing experience at Momentum Rock Climbing thanks to Jackson! From the moment I walked in, Jackson was incredibly helpful and informative, guiding me through the equipment and safety procedures with a friendly smile. He took the time to answer all my questions and even gave me tips on improving my climbing technique. Jacksonโs enthusiasm and patience made me feel completely at ease, and he went above and beyond to ensure I had a great experience. By the end of my session, I felt more confident and excited about climbing than ever.
If youโre heading to Momentum Rock Climbing, I highly recommend asking for Jackson. His knowledge, encouragement, and genuine passion for climbing truly made my visit memorable. I canโt wait to come back for another climb โ thanks to Jackson for making it such a fantastic time!

Routes 6-8 months old. Seems to only reset for competitions.
Membership dues increasing 2x a year.
Many many unsupervised kids in the gym to the point it is a complete hazard. Even in the training areas which have age restrictions.
Really sad to see Momentum and specifically the Sandy location treat members like this.
I used to avoid the Front because I dislike the ownership, but I have recently joined the Front and cancelled Momentum until they get their shit together.

This was my first sound bath experience and the instructor was amazing! The yoga room was great but a sound bath should not be done at Momentum gym โ- the music and the sounds from the gym competed with a very quiet and tranquil restorative practice.
This class costs and extra $25
For members and $28 for non-members. If the class wasnโt so pricey maybe the loudness of the gym wouldnโt be a big deal.
Bottom line:
The gym is way too noisy and it really diminished the entire experience.
Iโm giving it 3 stars because the instructor was really good.

Youth Program: A massive waste of time and money!
If you're looking to spend $320 so your kids can play "Red Light Green Light" & "Floor is Lava" for an hour and a half a week, and MAYBE climb the wall once, then this is the program for you!
The program is run by a half dozen 16 year old's who spend 90% of the class talking to each other while the kids do nothing. Last week, in a 90 minute lesson, my seven year old son spent a grand total of 4 minutes actually climbing. I timed it. He went up and down once. Gigantic waste of money. I could not recommend this program any less

Facilities are incredible, but the communication and management are horrible. I was charged a monthly rate 14% higher than advertised on the website. I never received a notice that rates were going up and I was told โoh sometimes things just slip through the cracksโ. Seriously?? Also, take careful notice that all of their prices listed online are pre-tax, because they donโt provide that disclaimer either. Oh and apparently their โsystem is not set up to send out billing receiptsโโฆ, which is a fantastic setup if youโre trying to be sneaky about price increases.
After bringing these valid concerns to multiple employees (and management), I was still never offered a refund or any sort of compensation for the sub-par communication.
I would recommend avoiding this gym.

I'm from out of town, and one of my favorite things is to check out different climbing gyms in new cities. I was here for a week and I tried all the climbing gyms around SLC and Momentum Sandy is by far my favorite! The vibe is OG community roots, friendly people, really helpful staff, and fun routes. It is really one of the best gyms I've climbed at between CA, NV, and UT, and it's the staff, the varied terrain, and the atmosphere that makes it so great. The community is relaxed and welcoming and the staff are knowledgeable and excited about climbing and it seems like they are happy to be working there.
As far as other gym amenities go, there are movement classes available Monday through Saturday. Ladies night is Monday for $10 admission. There are two spin bikes upstairs which is helpful for warning up, as well as a couple other cardio machines, and a good fitness center with benches and free weights, foam rollers, rings, hang boards with pulleys for weight reduction options, and a tension board and a kilter board.
The staff who helped us this visit were Malakai, Jackson and Carl. They gave us beta for outdoor climbs and helped orient us to the area and were easy to talk with. Thanks guys!

Used to come here regularly. Good routes, clean, friendly staff... but I thought it was expensive before. I came for the first time in a year and prices have gone way up. Just a day pass (I didn't need any rentals) was nearly $27 with tax. I don't climb very often (obviously) and my forearms are done after an hour at the most anyway, so it's just not a good value. Hard to justify paying that much for one hour of fun/exercise. Probably won't be coming again, which is too bad.

I climbed in the youth circuit for about 7 years. While I support teaching and training youth, every time I come here there is a rude group that takes over the area. 4 kids and a coach coming and standing right in front of me, taking over the wall does not teach good climbing ettiquete to the kids, or climbers around.

Super solid gym. Glad to see the addition of the grasshopper and kilter boards. Has everything for a comprehensive gym climbing experience: bouldering (if slightly smaller than might be preferred), top rope, lead, crack, and fitness gear. Management at this location is lacking. The bathrooms were closed for nearly three months and the menโs locker room is still closedโฆ since November. In mid winter you had to go out to a trailer to use the bathroom. If you like to come in from work or before work and change, forget it. This location WAS more convenient but itโs pointless to go before or after work. Now I have to go out of my way to another location. I donโt know why such a small space has taken so long to fix but ultimately Momentumโs management is responsible.

I'm an experienced climber of 30 years and I have worked in gyms climbing gyms in the past. I have visited climbing gyms across the country and this is one of the the best I've been to. It is definitely by far the best gym in the South Southwest United States. Established by experienced folks from Utah, they really know their craft and put together a world class gym. The routes are consistent and challenging. They have climbs for all ability levels and at all different heights. It's perfect for young children, families, beginners as well as advanced and intermediate, even pro climbers. They have bouldering, self-belay, top rope, and huge lead climbing walls. Their staff is friendly helpful and considerate. You can tell they love working there.

Update: the gift card they gave instead of the refund was empty. The employee gave an empty gift card to get us to leave!
DO NOT GO HERE, this gym is the most unwelcoming gym i have ever been to. I've been climbing all over utah at different gyms and i took some friends climbing today who are new to climbing, when we go in i have to show them how to belay before they take the test, after about 5 minutes they knew how to belay really well and when we went to take the test the guy at the front desk said we are not all to climb and not allowed to take the test because i showed them how to belay and they will need to take the $35 HOUR long class on just how to belay. After they said we are now allowed to climb (just because i showed my friends) i asked for a refund and they were not able to refund me and made me get a gift card instead, later when i asked about where it says in the rules and he just pointed to this very small poster And said its on here. NO WHERE in this poster does it say that if you show someone how to belay it means you cant climb. This gym is the most UNWELCOMING CLIMBING GYM IN UTAH. The gym in leghi is much much better but this one is absolutely terrible.

I have been climbing at Sandy Momentum for the last year, and have zero complaints. All of the staff are fantastic, and play great music you can hear most nights. Donโt miss out on the โclosing announcementsโ from Eric, always a great way to end the night.

Employees are really condescending and rude. They donโt display rules effectively. DO NOT CLIMB HERE! If I could give them 0 stars I would. Their billing was not working and they had to put our refund on a gift card. I am very disappointed.

Great staff. The setting is pretty solid, not too soft or sandbagged usually. Good amount of variation in walls. Highly recommend their v3 and v5 bouldering classes

Customer service VERY rough it was my first time there I had so many questions if it's your first time I wouldn't start here without someone you know it's like a barrier to entry here. I wouldn't be surprised if this place will eventually struggle. Anyways yesterday was Veterans Day, I didn't feel comfortable and they let a lot of people cut in front of us I wouldn't have stayed if it wasn't for a friend. HONESTLY I just didn't feel very welcomed there. I mean no one said anything about where I sign a waiver and stuff. This is my review of momentum and how I feel about it. Anyways this review kinda sucks.
The equipment and walls for climbing were awesome though.

Lots of fun top rope and lead climbing here. The bouldering area is small and kind of crowded on busy days. I do like the cave like Bouldering area. Very unique to this location

Wow! What a great experience. Im visiting from Canada and my friend took me here to try rock climbing. It was my first time ever and now I feel like Im addicted. Great atmosphere, everyone is friendly. There was someone who walked by and asked for us not to take photos as you need 2 hands on the rope at all times. We were not told this earlier in the day but I really appreciate that staff member saying something. She was kind enough and took photos for us. We also did a hour lesson with Levi and he was awesome. I kept getting confused with something and he would help remind me or fix any issues I had. He was also kind enough to take photos/videos for us as well. He was also really nice. This place is great for all ages in my opinion. I like that they had a kid section as well. Thank you for a great start to my vacation!

The gym is great and all, but the kids not being watched over is truly a pain. Every so often, thereโs young children playing around right under me when Iโm bouldering. I almost severely injured a child once because I slipped while climbing. Iโm 180lbs and I donโt think the injury would be light if I fell on top of a 7 year old.

It was my first time climbing at Momentum and it was so much fun. There are plenty of walls with differing difficulties. The bouldering room was awesome also.
