Shaw Dance & Preschool has been absolutely amazing for our family. I have two girls who go here, and they love it, everything from the classes to the teachers. The staff is always warm, patient, and professional, and you can tell they genuinely care about the kids.

They stay up to date with the latest teaching techniques, and the owner truly has a passion for what she does. It shows in the way the program is run and in how happy and confident my girls are every time they come home.

Update to your response-
You don't need to be setup as a special needs preschool to accept a student with special needs. If I felt my son would do best in a special needs preschool he would be in one. About the licensing- you purposefully left out the first part of the sentence for that licensing criteria. "In order to provide services to infants and toddlers with disabilities age 0-3 in early intervention settings, an individual shall have an Early Intervention Credential or a Preschool Special Education (Birth- Age 5) license." My son is 4, not 0-3 and an Early Intervention setting doesn't apply to this. About your insurance- this was not brought up or mentioned when you immediately turned us down but since you already altered that licensing criteria, who knows if what you say about your insurance is true either. Regardless, you didn't offer to meet or talk to me in person or meet my son to see if we could make it work without his aid. You made a judgment that you couldn't meet his needs based on his diagnosis I gave you. You didn’t provide an individualized assessment per ADA guidelines. As for the school district part, I already spoke to the head of the district special education preschool program and decided it wasn't a good fit for my son because as I said before, he does well in mainstream programs.

My review-
I feel that this place was discriminatory towards us. I had called to inquire about their program for my child. Told them his diagnosis and that he has an aid. She said she'd talk to the director and call me back. When we talked again she said "we don't have the certification or facility to support your son." I wasn't going to argue because once that was said I don't want my son attending somewhere that immediately made a judgment against him without even meeting him to see that zero alterations to their program would have been needed and that he does just fine in mainstream programs. Perhaps someone in their facility should become familiar with ADA laws so they know how to better treat parents with children with disabilities in the future.

"Centers cannot just assume that a child’s disabilities are too severe for the child to be integrated successfully into the center’s child care program. The center must make an individualized assessment about whether it can meet the particular needs of the child without fundamentally altering its program. In making this assessment, the caregiver must not react to unfounded preconceptions or stereotypes about what children with disabilities can or cannot do, or how much assistance they may require. Instead, the caregiver should talk to the parents or guardians and any other professionals (such as educators or health care professionals) who work with the child in other contexts. Providers are often surprised at how simple it is to include children with disabilities in their mainstream programs." -Ada.gov

My daughter started hip-hop a few months ago she is ten years old and is so excited to go to class every Tuesday! Her teacher is top notch! We have loved Shaw Dance Studio for our daughter. She attends a special needs class at school, but has done excellent in a general dance and tumbling class with kids her age here. We've loved our experience at Shaw Dance! My daughter did the princess camps, for a couple of summers, and had great experiences. So, we decided to sign her up for the year class last school year. We absolutely love Shaw Dance.. I danced at Shaw Dance when it was first opened many years ago and have continued loving the shaw dance family and now I get to enjoy watching my kids dance at Shaw dance.. we enjoy the dance classes but also we enjoyed the preschool.. i have been able to have 2 of my 3 kids attend preschool and dance here and they have absolutely loved it. The preschool is fun and do field trips and fun programs for the parents to attend.. for the recreational dance classes I personally enjoyed when the did parent participation night wish that would come back. I also loved the daddy daughter dances that Shaw has done.. its great to see those DANCE DADS get out there with their kids.

Shaw Dance is one of the best dance studios in Davis County and Northern Utah. They are very professional, have a beautiful facility and outstanding staff and instructors. I love how upfront a clear everything is. When you sign your contract everything is right there for you to review. Prices, dates and what is required of parents and dancers. The communication is perfect throughout the season. And if I have any questions Jana and her staff are always quick to respond to any questions or concerns I have. We were frustrated with my daughter's previous dance studio, so we switched to Shaw about 2 years ago. It has been a night and day experience for us! Shaw is very organized, and my daughter has a blast in her classes. She has learned to really love dance at Shaw, and she has become so confident and creative with her movement.
I love that the recitals are broken down into several smaller and shorter cast performances, and all the kiddos have a chance to shine on stage (not the same "favorites" in the front and center of the group every time). I really see that they prioritize building life skills and enjoyment through dance vs just trying to put on a big show for parents twice a year. I totally recommend this dance studio.

I have seen an amazing change in my kids confidence since she did her Summer Session at Shaw Dance Studio. We cannot recommend this dance studio, and preschool enough. They are truly the best of the best-so caring, and kind to my kids. They have really become an extended family to us at Shaw. They put their heart and soul into what they do, and my kids have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of dancing, and going to preschool here.

My daughter loves it here, we've had a great experience. The owner is great and you can really tell she puts a lot of time and energy into her business. Once there was a small issue and she personally emailed me which I thought was so thoughtful and kind. My only complaint (which is not about the business itself at all), is the parents during pickup. There are signs indicating to not park where you're not supposed to, e.g. handicapped parking, etc. and people just ignore that and park wherever they want. Again, this is not a reflection of the business, they're doing their best and I appreciate their efforts to do that as someone who uses a handicapped placard for a wheelchair bound family member.
Back to the business though, my daughter's teacher is very nice and my daughter enjoys her class a lot. I plan to continue going here as long as my daughter wants to do dance, and hopefully we can expand to tumbling next year. Thank you guys for all you do!

Shaw Dance is incredible! My son and daughter are both in their sixth year there and we will never go anywhere else. The instructors are top notch and really care about the dancers. I enrolled my daughter here for cheer jam and we were both looking forward to starting. Unfortunately, my daughter started having medical problems which prompted me to remove her from starting classes. I reached out to inform them of the situation and without hesitation they refunded my deposit and even offered to help me. If that does not tell you what type of business this is and how kind hearted and caring they are, I don't know what will. Once my daughter's medical problems are resolved, we will definitely be back. I have absolutely loved dancing for your company this year. I have been beyond impressed with the professionalism and structure of your program. My 3 year old struggled a few times going to class and was pulled screaming from my arms. Allie has been so kind and loving with her along with giving reassurance to my heart that she was going to be fine! Incredible dance studio!

Our son Noah attends boys hip-hop and Jana (the Owner) is his teacher. She truly is outstanding. Jana is DEDICATED and takes great pride in running her studio. My 4-year-old son absolutely LOVES going to hip-hop dance.

Her studio is beautiful. She takes care of the kids. During coronavirus, each child was temperature checked and hands sanitized prior to coming into the studio. The kids get to perform in two concerts (one for spring and winter). She brings in professional companies for pictures before the concert in their outfits and a video of the concert itself.

There is something for everybody, whether your in competition or just doing this recreationally. The quality and effort she puts into these classes says it all. It’s worth everything they do here and I couldn’t be happier than to see my son enjoy this place so much.

The pre-K program at Shaw is great! The class is a bit large (about 25 kids), but there are at least 2-3 teachers in the class. My daughter loves it! I think she will be more than ready for kindergarten next year.
