I’m three months into training and I’m more motivated than ever. The staff is knowledgeable and encouraging. I show up every morning session to a kind hello. My coach/trainer Sam is invested in my development and keeps me accountable. My first session I could barely do a set of body weight squats… now I’m doing front squats! Last week I ran my first 5k in 7 years and am determined to do a pull up. As a working mom of two, I’m finally taking time for myself and getting stronger! I appreciate the role of SLC S&C in the journey.

Could not say enough great things about this gym.
Been going every week for about 4 years now. There are people of all shapes and sizes either the simple goal of being healthy. It’s a place where the coaches know your name and know their game. The owner Steve has used his coaches, the class based training, and a lot of hard work to make this a great community to be a part of.

Just the kind of gym I've been looking for: low ego, no gym bros--just smart and caring trainers interested in helping you get strong and stay safe while you're doing it.
The class structure is fantastic. You get an overall warmup, a warm up specific to the main lift of the day, the main lift, then a handful of complementary lifts, a cool down and stretch. All you have to do is show up.

I virtually never write reviews but this place is amazing; enough attention and expertise, the motivation/supportive atmosphere of a group, and the "just show up and do what I'm told" that I needed. I would also give 10 stars if I could.

As someone who’s been lifting consistently for most of my adult life and feels very at home in a gym, I can confidently say that SLC Strength and Conditioning stands out. The workouts are grounded in evidence-based programming and designed to continually challenge your body in smart, effective ways. The atmosphere is both motivating and enjoyable, and the coaching is exceptional. These aren’t just personal trainers—they’re educated strength and conditioning coaches with proper education and a deep knowledge of training for results. The equipment is top-notch, and the programming is adaptable for a wide range of goals and fitness levels. I highly recommend this facility to anyone serious about improving their strength and performance regardless of their experience.

So happy and excited that I found this gym early into moving here. They have so many class time options (if you’re in healthcare, there’s a 5am class) and the trainers are so knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. You won’t regret giving this place a try!

I cannot say enough good things about this facility and its employees. I have dreaded organized exercising for years and haven't been able to stick with anything until coming here. The trainers are so friendly and well-educated in their field of study and experience. They really take the time to focus on form which I really appreciate as I have some sports related injuries. The vibe of all the members is cheerful and welcoming. Just try it, you won't be disappointed!

I just show up half awake, leave 50 min later drenched in hard work -- rinse and repeat each day of the week. Something had to give and coming here has been a noticeable positive mental and physical change for me. The staff and clientele has been welcoming and friendly regardless if people are doing heavy lifting of just getting started. Not that I want the place to fill up, but I highly recommend trying it out. It hurts so good.

I am so glad I found this gym. The trainers - Steve, Luke, Alyssa, and Spencer - are all highly trained, patient, and observant. I have been doing resistance training for about 40 years, but after only four months here, I have learned way more technique than all the rest of that time. I have also learned dozens of new exercises. I came to this gym because I had become frustrated with recurring injuries and slow progress. I have made tremendous progress here. As one example, I had long since given up on squats, due to the pain and injury from never having the right technique (even after working with a personal trainer). Working with trainers at SLC, I was able to correct my form after just a couple of sessions. The atmosphere of this gym is also outstanding - people of all shapes, sizes, and ages working in a non-competitive environment where you receive plenty of challenge, but always with attention to avoiding injury and overuse. This gym is absolutely outstanding.

Great collegiate-level personal trainers. Alyssa has been excellent and I'm really happy with the progress I'm making. I have some old injuries and I feel generally better now than I have in years.
All the staff and trainers appear highly competent, very welcoming, and they all seem to be in very good shape. Rule #1: never work with an unfit trainer. Pricing also seems fair, considering these are better than average trainers who all have experience working at university athletics programs.
The gym has most everything you'd need equipment-wise and is focused primarily on barbell and dumbbell work, which is perfect. Thankfully there's no "machine" type training apparatuses that you'd see at a cheap mcdonalds gym, not even a smith machine. This is good.
But, it is more of a DIY garage style gym and is short a few basics, like showers and non-slip floor surfaces (upstairs racks, basement back room), which are fixes that could improve the experience.
Group classes are a bit crowded for my taste, so I can't say if they are good or not, but they do seem very popular. However, the classes greatly limit the amount of available open gym time, which is probably my biggest complaint and why I still pay for a separate gym membership for my own work-outs that fall beyond the hours of 10am-3pm. But it's a not a giant gym, so I sympathize.
Overall I give 5 stars, despite any detractions, simply because the trainers are so good, and I think that's really this gym's "core strength" anyways, rather than open hours, amenities, etc.
I'm really glad this gym exists amid the sea of bad trainers, and I look forward to more. Thank you for the pump.

This is a top notch facility with top notch trainers and staff. No big egos, just friendly faces that know their stuff and a good sense of community. They have excellent equipment and all of the specialty pieces not seen at your average gym, plus it is kept clean and well maintained. The trainers are much more of training coaches, and their high level of professionalism and skillsets shows through in every class or private training session. Group classes are not your average group training environment, and the 5:30am class brings the heat. I will really miss this location since I'm moving over to Park City, along with Steve, Ryan, Sese and Luke as these guys are the best in the biz whether you're a high level athlete or just starting out with fitness and weight lifting.

These guys really know what they are doing! There are open gym times and classes. Everything is appropriately set up for current COVID-19 concerns to keep us safe - but that doesn't stop the trainers from working us HARD! They are great about having variations or alternate exercises for anyone who might have trouble with certain exercises or have some health concerns. Everyone is friendly and helpful - the owners, the trainers, and the other members. I love going every day - even though I'm wiped out after a 45-60 minute session! Already, I am seeing changes - I am able to keep up during classes and do more. I feel better overall too!

I’ve thought about writing this review after completing 2 months at SLC strength. In just a few weeks I will be celebrating my three year anniversary with SLC Strength & Conditioning! This has been the most amazing fitness journey. And I keep returning for more! My first week I was greeted and told by a fellow gym mate, “You come for the work outs & stay for the people”. This was true on day 1 and is still true three years later.
This is the gym for you if you are looking for knowledgeable and professional coaches, quality gym equipment, a safe and clean gym space, thoughtful dynamic daily workouts with Olympic lifting options, (including the opportunity to join an olympic lifting team), lots of daily class times to choose from and open gym options.
The coaches are wonderful! They absolutely care and are committed to facilitating a positive and effective work out experience for each member. On a personal note, all of the coaches have offered valuable coaching and work out modifications (when needed) to ensure my workouts are safe, successful, sustainable and meeting my fitness goals. The community is positive, supportive, friendly and fun. I work out with my friends (including my son)! It is a vibrant, lively and inclusive environment. And I want to put emphasis on inclusive!
Thank you Stephen and Kristy for your dedication, vision, commitment and hard work (especially through Covid) to ensure SLC
Strength & Fitness remains a Salt Lake City fitness staple. I am so happy to be celebrating three years. Cheers to three more!

I have tried many gyms around the Salt Lake Valley but this one by far is one of the best. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable which is very comforting. It also seems like they care about getting to know the people and find out what their goals are which is nice. They make sure you are doing everything correctly so you don't injure yourself. Very happy with this gym. Here are the things I like: warmups and after-stretch with every workout, Olympic lifting options twice a week (for those interested), metabolic circuit days on Wednesday and Friday and good strength workouts the other days, really nice coaches and a very non-competitive atmosphere.
For Crossfitters considering this gym, it’s got a lot of what I loved about Crossfit. No “for time” workouts and no score board. No burpees or really any kipping movements. Besides that, very similar. Airdyne bikes, sleds, barbells, racks, rowers, etc. I will always love Crossfit, but this gym has been a nice switch up for me and offers many of the things I loved. I also believe people who felt Crossfit was too intense will really like this gym.
Before joining, I was working out in my apartment gym sporadically. I missed what Crossfit did for my body. Now I’m happy that I’ve gotten back the tone and muscle that I was used to. Thanks SLC Strength and Conditioning for being a great place to work out!

I love this gym. Never had I done weight training before or been a ‘gym’ person. Always just been like ‘the earth is my gym’ aha (inner hippie) and done yoga at Core Power. But with working full time and getting a masters degree my time for outdoor activites has been limited and need to get some consistent exercise into my life, since I didn’t have enough time to get out on the trails.
Anyways, I’ve seen so much improvement in my posture and overall strength. The trainers are great and attentive to my needs in the group classes. Awesome space, clean, great equipment. Plus I can run up trails I’ve never been able to run up before. The best feeling.

You will not find a better facility with anywhere near the quality of coaches, programming, and community for these prices in the private training industry. As a former division 1 football player, I can wholeheartedly say that SLC S&C is the best facility and best coaches I have had the opportunity to train with since I was in college. The staff has real strength and conditioning experience, knowledge, and practices what they preach. Their programming and coaching pushes you to become the best athlete you can be, not some kipping pull-up, burpee machine...Lastly, the community atmosphere makes everyone feel welcome and motivated to achieve their fitness goals no matter where they are at. I’m staring down my 40s and realized I needed to do more than light yoga and hiking if I wanted to prevent muscle and bone loss in the coming decades. I read up on powerlifting and it sounded like a good way to accomplish my goals, but there were two problems: 1.) I had no idea how to lift and 2.) I was terrified of gyms.
Thank God a friend told me about SLC Strength & Conditioning
If you thought gyms were a hotbed of competition and aggression and toxic masculinity (like I did), then SLC Strength & Conditioning will happily prove you wrong. Here, there is no ego, there is no crazy pursuit of a number at the expense of injury, there is no “boy’s club.” Instead, there is respect--for the weights and the people lifting them--and there is openness and knowledge.
Since I had never lifted before, I opted for a few months of personal training. Working with Stephen has been great: He’s incredibly accepting and non-judgmental but also manages to quietly push me past what I think I can do in every session. I’m getting SO much more value than what I’m paying (which really isn’t that much, in the grand scheme of things--especially since training includes classes and open gym time, too).
The other trainers are equally knowledgeable, helpful, and woke. The classes are filled with women and men doing extremely hard things, but there’s no “win at all costs” mentality, just friendliness. Heck, even the hours of operation are great--open early AND late.
In conclusion: If gyms scare you, if you’re a feminist, if you want to get stronger and braver, give SLC Strength & Conditioning a try. You won’t be disappointed.

So my sister and I were interested in this place for a while and we were impressed this establishment accumulated five stars with multiple reviews. We tried the free trial out and we were, to put it simply, destroyed.
About a year later when my sister and I got our lives a little more stable we decided to get personal training. At first we wanted Alli as our personal trainer, but seeing as she was the only female one she was unavailable to take on more trainees due to her schedule. We decided to go with Steve temporarily and then switch over to Alli when she was available. We have been here for maybe over three months now and really enjoy training with Steve.
While we would not be opposed to switching to Alli still, we feel very comfortable with our trainer. That being said, if someone decides to seek out personal training, do not be disappointed if you have to “settle” for someone who was not your original choice—everyone working there knows what they are doing, do not underestimate them, because I guarantee that people will love whoever they end up with even if it was not their choice.
I thrive in the environment because it is such a small business unlike those huge fitness gyms where I feel I can easily become lost, literally and figuratively. The employees here are always available to contact outside of training for questions or concerns and they are diverse in interests and hobbies so it is ridiculously easy to get comfortable and strike up conversation. The customer service is exemplary. And for those that worry about prices for personal training, this place is much, much, much cheaper than anywhere else and are very transparent about their fees and waivers, meaning that there is more bang for the buck. This gym is an amazing deal and unarguably the best one in Salt Lake City.
This place may be small and humble but it packs a hell of a punch and all of the trainers are very kind and understanding—you know they have genuine concern for your health and fitness goals when your muscles are sore for days. I am sure they take great pride in improving people’s lives—they want to see you succeed and they give over 100% effort for each patron to prove it.

This gym is the best! I was referred to SLC Strength and Conditioning by another strength and conditioning coach to help get me back into shape after a knee replacement. I’ve been doing personal training here for about 3 months, and after the first couple months my husband was so impressed, he signed up too. We both have injuries that we are recovering from, and Steve (the owner) has been awesome at knowing just what we need to get us back doing the activities we love. He has amazing experience with college and professional athletes. All the coaches have the education that goes with the training experience. Even though I have only been going for 3 months, I feel confident with the training, and I experience less pain and more movement every week. I’m excited to go work out, and i never get bored. I never feel intimidated and always feel welcome when I come in. I used to have a membership at one of the larger gyms, and honestly they don’t even compare.

Love this place! I'm a big fan of training with others, so the class setting suits me well. That being said, they have something for everyone; no matter what level you are. They also do personal training. There's a strong focus on training versus "working out". I'm training for basketball, and, the staff has made sure I'm getting the exercises I need to up my game. The owner has a lot of experience and he's there everyday, sometimes all day. The staff have great attitudes and care about each individual, making sure they have good form and not overdoing it.

I have been thinking about writing this review for about a week now. I realized that anything that I say would not truly convey how awesome everyone is at SLC Strength & Conditioning and everyone will just have to go check it out for themselves.
Stephen (owner) and the team are top notch, well-educated, seasoned professionals. They are all also REALLY nice and are genuinely passionate about what they do. My husband and I have been going to this gym for a little over a month now. We go about four days a week. We train with Stephen once a week, attend a low impact class and pop in for open gym time for the rest of our workout schedule. We are definitely beginners when it comes to the gym and felt intimidated in other places due to our lack of knowledge. Everyone here made us feel so welcome and at ease. All the trainers are incredibly helpful and supportive even while multi-tasking other clients and/or classes being held. They are always checking up on everyone and open to any questions about correcting your form or what equipment to use. Lastly, they will push you to your limits in training without being overly pushy and prioritize injury prevention in all aspects.
For people who do not love to work out, we always come out of this place singing their praises (in addition to some cursing the next day because of soreness.) Great staff, great customer service, what more can you ask for?

Don't waste your money somewhere else- this is the place- and it's the only one like it.
The owner has really got it down. There's a nice, easy-to-use website (something rare for a small gym), the trainers are very professional and know their stuff. There are multiple sessions a day, and multiple kinds of sessions. The coaches are able to modify a parts of the group workouts on a dime for those with injuries. You won't have to deal with the crowdedness of a public gym or have to struggle to set aside equipment for a circuit or fight for a rack. The atmosphere is small, friendly, and even a little competitive at times :) And they really care about your all-around development. Just today, they brought in a top dietician to do a presentation- free of charge and open to the public. The owner, Stephen, is always looking for ways to make his business even better.
If you struggle with keeping a commitment to the gym, a friendly and energetic group atmosphere with REAL workouts and REAL coaches might be just what you need.

This gym and the staff are amazing. Every workout is different. I have seen myself improve more here in the few months I have been there than with other gyms and personal trainers. There is a great sense of encouragement and community with the other clients. You won't want to look anywhere else.

Not a novice by any stretch, when it comes to working out. I have competed and consistently trained martial arts for over a decade. In that dedication I always included some sort of weight lifting regiment to my training. I thought I had a handle on exercise, I wasn’t mistaken on the things I knew, but they took my work ethic to a whole new level. They made my long list of problem areas into a short one. This group of well educated and very motivated staff have broaden my idea of healthy living.

This gym is exactly what you are looking for if you want to be motivated by some of the best trainers in SLC, if you are motivated by your peers pushing you in the gym, if you are interested in networking with other motivated people in the community, and if you are motivated to to get results, in definition and strength, very quickly! Wow... I just said "motivated" a lot. 🤔Well, I hope this review MOTIVATED you to check it out for a week with a free trial. You will definitely thank me. 😉

I can see the facility is very new and still had a lot of work to be done, but the setup thus far it's great and the ex-nfl player behind the counter is an awesome dude.

Licensed and qualified. The owner, Stephen, is educated and knows how to coach well. All the trainers are educated and have the right certifications. I like how attentive to each class member's individual needs the trainers are. If you are a beginner the weeknight 6:30 class is definitely for you. I felt it was a judgment free zone where class members are affected positively by the atmosphere, such that everyone is super nice to each other; even while sweating off life's daily stress. What a zen place to get a worthwhile workout.

SLC Strength and Conditioning is the best of the best. I am grateful for the personalized attention I have received in helping me meet my goals in fitness and strength development and I have never had a more concerned athletic coach. Steve and his staff are professional and knowledgeable and will go out of their way to insure that my needs are being met. I have gained more strength in two years with Steve than in all my previous years of training.
