I paid 6 months tuition to start my son. He went twice and then was assaulted by an adult in the gym. I didn’t feel he was safe there as he want being supervised. They knew my son was young and had autism. They wouldn’t give me any of the money back and said they couldn’t watch him during his class time. As a single mother this was a huge investment. My son needs Marshall arts and it’s helped him since he was 4. I don’t think it is reasonable to deny me my money back for classes that weren’t going to work for him with no fault of our own. I didn’t have to pay it all at once but I chose to, I didn’t get to take him elsewhere as I couldn’t afford it. This business is ableist and extremely greedy. No care for the child being assaulted by a grown man on their watch either.

I’m genuinely so impressed by the Sports Mall! I had a tennis lesson with Amy today and was blown away by the experience. I’m currently taking tennis lessons, and I learned more in this one session than I have at other places. Highly recommend—10/10! I will be back.

Mens locker room is top notch and has a sauna, steam room, hot tub, tanning beds, clean functioning lockers, & choice of both communal open style/military showers or private ones for the meek non-jock bros who didn't play sports in school.💪🏻🏈⚾️⚽️🥍🎾

Played a tennis tournament here. Pretty upsetting when we’re playing on a court where the cracks throughout make it difficult to even bounce the ball where you want before serving and it affects the ball throughout the match.
Also the net was tied together in like 4 places however there was a huge gap right in the middle that made it difficult to know if the ball went above the net or through it during play.
Really fun to have all of these pretty unacceptable problems at a tennis facility but don’t worry, there’s perfectly new pickleball courts being built!!
Please take better care of your courts. At least get functional nets, that’s bare minimum.
Edit: I will say everyone there is nice, when I asked for ice for my leg after getting hit they tracked down ice for me which was very nice. It just seems like everything is the same as it was 15 years ago when I worked there, including the nets. I just wish they put as much effort into the pickleball courts but started with tennis first.

Great gym. Love the atmosphere. The staff and patrons are so friendly. There is also a wide range of classes available included in the membership.
My main complaint is the cardio space. Why do you blow hot air on us?? The heaters seem to always be on up there.

The facility was always filthy. Never saw anyone cleaning anything. The women’s locker room is super outdated. The steam shower was rarely working when I was there, it’s a huge part of why I pay more for a gym experience. Not only that compared to the men’s locker room the women’s is dilapidated. The steam room looks like something out of the movie Saw.

Racquetball courts are what sets the facility apart from the rest. Racquetball is the main reason I go to Sports Mall. There are a wide range of players. Courts are regulation sized. Tournaments are held here, etc.. Racquetball, the best sport ever.

A hesitant recommendation.
Expressed an easily addressed hygiene issue on the workout floor, one of the owners found it funny and made a joke without even acknowledging my concern.
So sad.
I prepaid the entire year to show my faith in the mission.
When the leadership doesn’t share that, well?
Previous review-
Great people! The Staff are wonderful.
The facility is showing some age now, and the cleanliness is questionable at times.
Not neglected, just not enough repeat cleanings.
High traffic makes things souled fast.
Again, the Staff are First Class!!!

If I could give the sports mall more than 5 stars, I would. As a mom of 2, it’s so convenient knowing that I have everything in one place. I can drop my kids off at day care and know they’re good hands and I’m not too far. Their classes and their teachers are amazing and it’s always very clean. And the staff is so friendly. Oh and Kyle at the nail salon is one of the most talented and kind humans in the planet.

I got a membership here to play tennis. After inquiring with the membership team about the different options, I opted for the cheapest option at $54 a month. I was assured that I could participate in the tennis workouts and classes with this tier because unlike the other tennis clubs in the area, you have to be a member to participate in any of the live balls, workouts or cardio tennis. After paying the monthly membership fee and the one time activation fee (more on this later) you now have the privilege of participating at an additional $25 a pop. This is pretty standard tennis it’s an elitist sport but apparently I like toxic relationships. After months of playing tennis they have the audacity to gaslight me and pretend that I’ve been paying for a membership tier which doesn’t allow me access to tennis classes! Oh and if I would like to have the privilege of continuing to play tennis, I will be now be expected to pay $75 a month for the higher tier. In addition to the membership fee don’t forget about the $25 per class fee and lest I forget to mention that one time fee I already paid when I started my membership oh yeah I’ll owe a them an additional one time fee of $50 to upgrade my membership. Silly me I guess I don’t understand the meaning of one time fee. Really though this is all on me because like an idiot I didn’t pay attention to the posters posted on the wall because I forgot it’s still 1950 in the Sports Mall so if you don’t read the cork board your loss! I guess with my years of education I thought a functioning business would opt to send out a blast email about membership changes since it’s 2024 but again I’m the fool. This place is old school and not in a fun way so buyer beware. Pretty sure the fees are skyrocketing to pay for the pickleball courts they’ve decided to invest in and as a tennis player you won’t catch me paying for no pickleball courts! Sayonara Sports Mall I do not wish you well. 💋

Has great amenities which include steam room, sauna, weights, cardio rooms, martial arts, pool, tennis courts, etc….
Only one word of caution would be the men’s room that includes showers, hot tub, steam room, and bath. The showers are open with many nude men showering there. Included were many senior men nude while in the hot tub. I myself (34 years old) went in the steam room and saunas and felt uncomfortable as one of the senior men was staring at me and followed me out to see me in the open shower. I should’ve said something but it being my first time there I wasn’t sure what the rules were.
I noticed afterwards that on the doors to those rooms there is a sign in red bold that “Swimwear is to be worn at all times in wet areas.” Not sure if that is being enforced.
I’d suggest that if that makes you uncomfortable to not go in there, especially with young or little ones.
Besides that everything else is great!

So frustrating with my experience here. First off the tennis courts are hit and miss. Some have holes in the court where you can see the grid structure underneath the asphalt. Secondly I played a member of the club, was charged DOUBLE court fees, AND a guest fee on top of it. 90 minutes of tennis was $42! That’s THE most expensive courts we have in the Salt Lake area. And the lady at the desk was just “Yea. Sorry. That’s the fees” I even questioned the fees since the website states different costs for playing a member in the club. Will not be returning here. Do not recommend playing here. Premium prices, not pristine courts and customer service was meh.

Apparently they couldn’t convert tennis courts into pickleball courts so they took out some of the best sand volleyball courts around. Too bad the owner didn’t keep wasatch beach around, I bet he’d have made so much money he wouldn’t even think on pickleball… I guess I have no more reason to go to this establishment ever again.

I have only been a few times and have only really lifted weights. There are a few different areas you can lift in, the equipment was all working, I typically work out around 7 PM and it wasn’t busy at all. The staff has been very friendly and the people working out in the same area have been down to earth. If you’re looking for a gym that has a local feel and people that are respectful, this place would be amazing for you!

First off, I really love this place, the staff is amazing and overall the facilities are in good shape, albeit lacking in cleanliness at times (locker room floors are absolutely disgusting, bring sandals). Very chill, lots of amenities, and the machines are rarely out of order (but a tad dated). Kind of a hidden gem.
That said, I’m likely going to cancel our family membership, as are a few friends I’ve gotten to join with me, for several reasons.
First, the classes and pool schedule are not conducive to anyone who has a typical work schedule, maybe by design since there are mostly older folks and people who don’t seem to have regular jobs. This is quite frustrating when the pool is closed for the entirety of the morning and classes don’t start until 9-10 AM. I suppose 20-40 year olds really aren’t their target demographic. That said, there are plenty of machines and weights open.
Secondly, members do not follow basic rules (or decency). 90% of the (often older) men in the locker room walk around completely naked, even using the hand dryers on their genitalia, completely ignoring all the signs asking to cover up. I’d never take my kid into the locker rooms. Furthermore, I’ve never once seen someone wipe down a machine after use, which can often get disgusting.
Lastly, many of the older members are quite rude, curmudgeon would be an understatement. So many times I’ve been berated for using my phone as a timer in the sauna (not texting or playing music) whilst they stand there with their junk out. Even on machines and weights I’ve had members simply just sit down on a machine I’m using when I get up to drink water or stretch, and I’m right there next to the machine—yes I say something but come on.
I have brought these issues up to staff on several occasions but haven’t seen any change. In talking to other members it just seems to be the way of things. I simply am asking for rules to be enforced and pool/classes to be more flexible—especially given the price of the membership as compared to the EoS just across the street with nearly the same amenities.
I’ll miss the place but I’m over it. This could really be a gold standard with some simple changes to scheduling and actually holding members accountable.
Let me be clear, I’m simply stating my experience not trying to dissuade from joining. Try it for yourself, get a day pass and you’ll probably fall in love.
tl;dr great gym if you have a completely open schedule with no time constraints and don’t mind seeing lots of old guy genitalia.
Final note: If you’re a tennis enthusiast then these issues are likely moot, seems like the tennis folks love the place, I simply don’t play.

Incredible facility & gym!
First off, I remember coming to this place back when I was a teenager 26 years ago. Now as an adult with a family & kids, I STILL love coming here, and it's great to share it with my family.
The facility is HUGE and practically has everything you need, from a pool, to a smoothie/nutrition shop, to 2-floors of every kind of dumbbell or machine you can think of. You won't ever really have to wait for equipment to be free, and there are a ton of treadmills, rowers, ellipticals, and racquetball & tennis courts.
The viewing room for the tennis courts area is chill, as well as being able to watch people playing racquetball. During the summer, we love bringing the kids to the pool. There are also a ton of classes from cardio, to yoga, to cycling. The restrooms have plenty of nice lockers that don't require you to bring your own lock (even though you won't really have to worry about theft here), and it's pretty classy with the sauna/hot tub/showers/steam room areas.
The biggest thing I love about this place is it feels like a community & everyone is chill. The staff are incredibly supportive & welcoming. You won't find social-media influencers taking up space recording themselves, people goofing off, gym-rats owning the place, meatheads hogging machines/slamming weights around or worrying if someone is recording you for their social media. Instead, it's just people wanting to be healthy & be around others that also want that. Everyone tends to themselves, asks you if you're using a machine before just stealing it & stays out of each other's way.
This place has existed for a long time because they've found a formula that works, enough for me to want to write this kind of review for them. I definitely can't say the same thing about most gyms, and proud to say I'll keep coming here with my family as long as I can.

I've played tennis all over Salt Lake City and I've grown to love Sports Mall. In addition to the nicely surfaced outdoor courts, the indoor courts are fast and very well lit. Lighting can be an issue at some of the other indoor courts. What has made my experience at SM most satisfying is the people. Every single time of day or night that I've entered SM, I've been greeted with a smile and plenty of friendly chatter. I would be remiss if I did not call out Rachael. Rachael has gone above and beyond what I would normally expect, and she genuinely cares about us, the customer. With Ms. Porsche, leading by example, Rachael and company have made becoming a member at SM a must for me and many others, I'm sure. I'm impressed by several of the tennis clubs in SLC, but I'm particularly impressed with the SM.

The kids swim team was a lot of fun overall, but it was very disorganized. As a parent of a child newly interested in swimming, it was frustrating to have to ask several different people to clarify when and where to be for meets and events, just to get contradicting information time and time again. My daughter learned a lot through the summer and we're grateful for that. But I would think that with the cost as steep as it is, Sports Mall could ensure the coaches all get trained and have the same information and be a little more streamlined.
One major point of contention was that coaches communicated through the children, almost exclusively. I don't know many 8-12 year olds who are making mental notes during an intense hour-long swim practice so they can be sure to tell their parents the details of the upcoming meet including which color tent to look for, which side of the pool to sit on and what items to bring. Those are things that should be communicated through the app to parents.

Read all of the club manager's responses for the reviews provided. First off, he should not publicly call out a former employee and indicate why he separated said employee regardless of being at will. Publically stating the employee was disgruntled is inappropriate and should be kept private regardless of what occurred. He is certainly snarky, entitled, has total disregard and completely unprofessional. Rather than hear out a patrons concerns and consider safety improvements, he outright laughed and said "You are welcome to pull your child from the program." His overall tone is derisive and disrespectful. Work to make your club better so that it lives on the legacy it began with. Try doing something out of the ordinary, try doing more than the minimum standard.

Love this gym and it's amenities. Check ✔️ it out and especially if you are a necessary worker for COVID-19.

Overcharged for Everything. Kicked paying customers out of lap pools to rent out to the highest bid without compensating those affected.
Precharge your account by 100$ for guest passes and REFUSE to REFUND unused money upon cancellation.
Response to the owner.
A policy that forced your paying customers to pre purchase 10 to let even one guest in is specifically a money grab. A greedy policy that no longer is in effect. (I wonder why)
Keep the $90 or whatever. But this review stands because you are a greedy owner and you really earned this 1 star review.
As for the pool sellout you didn't respond to. It is just another example of how you as an owner will do anything for money. Bye now.

I love this place! Most remarkable staff and great environment. I would highly recommend this place to everyone. There also isn’t a better place to play tennis indoors. I’ve never been disappointed. A truly phenomenal place!
